I liked your comment about paying approximately the same amount for old stuff as a new kit would cost. It's a good rule of thumb, as these types of projects can spiral in price if you're not careful.
Before I commit to a purchase, I decide how much I want to pay per model, using modern minis as a guide. If I have a guide price in my head, it stops me spending ridiculous amounts.

The storm-bolter is probably a typo, but iirc wasn’t there a post-heresy rule in the 2nd Ed Chaos codex that allowed Chaos to take Imperial equipment at something like a 50% extra points cost tax? I seem to recall, for example, that characters could take Imperial Terminator armour instead of Chaos Terminator armour, the difference being a storm bolter instead of combi-weapon and the addition of a built-in targeter, which Chaos suits didn’t get. I suppose the rule could have technically had that option in mind.
In some edition, can't recall which, there was a Black Legion war band with all sorts of Marines, Nurgle, Khorne, all of them. But to keep them as one, they all were dark and gold, something like dark red for the Khorne Berserkers, green and rotten paints for Nurgle, and so on. Codex or White Dwarf, been years.
I love how you keep the army coherent despite the mix of units. That green tubing, and other small details, being applied across all models is simple but effective.
White dwarf 205 was the first magazine i bought. And the vet article got me hooked to chaos. Love the content, you inspired me to crack open my unopened 2002 chaos marines box and start painting. Thank you.
Great job on the squad. I had that box and I did a dual wielding bolter and bolt pistol with one of the marines too. It just looked cool! I painted them up as Iron Warriors.
Idea for a daemon prince on a bike, Doom rider, can't remember what edition he's from, but if it's second i feel like he'd be right at home in your chaos army considering his lore suggests chaos cultists summon him to the battlefield by singing a song about the Doom rider
As can be read in the second tome of The Bone Blood Books: "The Bone of Blood: Revenge of the Vicious (The second book of The Bone Blood Books)", genetically engineered bottoms do not in fact need wiping, and are self-cleansing and self-pressurizing. The Emperor provides.
