The track was damp according to the team. Definitely in shady spots there's moisture. In the documentary they discussed it. Mueller told the team the engine was down on power & gearbox wasn't 100%... but could just be TV drama. Definitely in those hotter Temps a super charged engine looses power & can get overheated easily, which further drops power. No matter, that V8 sounds awesome. Also, he's nowhere near the limit for most of the lap. Watching his hands, he's relaxed most of the time. Listening to the amount of coasting (neither on the throttle or brake), especially 2nd half of the lap, he's really driving cautiously. Maybe 90% of his ability when he's actually driving hard & 75% during all that coasting. The guy can push much harder & the car has a lot left in it. He's won Le Mans (class victories) twice in the Ford GT (supercar), so he knows how to push on these long very high speed tracks. Waiting for their next visit to see what the car can truly do with optimal conditions & a driver more confident to push the entire lap. Could be the tires were hot in the latter part of the lap & lost grip, so why he's coasting so often. Or track was low grip or damp.

I think they should’ve been more conservative with their marketing. I don’t blame anyone for trying to compare this to a GT3 RS or even an AMG One (as crazy as that sounds).
Ford fängt grade erst an.
It's hard not to compare it to the GT3 RS when Ford said they were squarely aiming to beat the Europeans. All that horsepower, chassis/suspension work from Mulitmatic and they still fell short! Not to mention an MSRP higher than a GT3 RS! Cool car but it was overhyped!
And it’s not even close… it’s a second slower than the 2018 GT3 RS… even the 992 GT3 non rs is faster with the MR Package… I was expecting this to be the 2nd fastest car on the track, or at least 4th… but now it’s 15th and Porsche has 7 Cars that are faster… I’m pretty disappointed by the lap, especially after the hype they built up…

People can say what they want about Ford but they've been bringing it since the dawn of the GT40. I'll always have respect for them. Again, congratulations!
The zr1 could 100% have done it, but they weren't able to get an official time. Plus if they put cup 2Rs on it, it really would have done it. The c8 z06 lap time of 7.10 is horrendous. I really don't believe that time. Especially considering the stingray did 7.29. There are so many changes between the cars and with previous corvettes, the gap between the base model and fastest model were much bigger. 20 seconds isn't a big gap. I would have guessed the c8 z06 to be around 6:55, as long as it's not 100 degrees outside.

Waiting for their next visit to see what the car can truly do with optimal conditions & a driver more confident to push the entire lap. Could be the tires were hot in the latter part of the lap & lost grip, so why he's coasting so often. Or track was low grip or damp.

That driver had excellent throttle modulation around the high speed bumps and dips, and kept the chassis very well composed.

Interesting, because his throttle inputs through the lap seemed very aggressive but late to me. Not very smooth.
Ford fängt grade erst an.
Porsche horsepower is not the same as other horsepower 😬
It's hard not to compare it to the GT3 RS when Ford said they were squarely aiming to beat the Europeans. All that horsepower, chassis/suspension work from Mulitmatic and they still fell short! Not to mention an MSRP higher than a GT3 RS! Cool car but it was overhyped!
Its what americans do. Overhype, underdeliver.

@camonly849 Yeah, its all about the drivers man. If all cars had the same equipment with the same driver, all cars would get better lap times. I'm just happy for the Ford guys.
