Two years after the release of his highly successful album Dolce Vita, Jonas Kaufmann reaffirmed his love affair with Italian music with a special concert at the Waldbühne - Berlin’s renowned stage-beneath-the-stars. In what can be seen as a wondrous zenith of his dedication to Italy and her music, the concert has become one of this year’s biggest classical music events. Sony Classical is proud to announce the release of the magical concert on DVD, Blu-ray, CD.

It ain´t just coincidence that there´s a big tenor trio composed of Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo you BOZO.. and Kaufmann is actually closest to Pavarotti in all voice quality terms from all of them!!
When he sang the same piece at The Proms in London the audience restrained from clapping until the music had actually finished - a compliment to Turandot. Kaufmann certainly knew then that he'd "nailed it" but he had to wait for the appreciation.

Please do not compare Jonas Kaufmann to any other tenor. He is unique and in a class of his own. Amazing voice and personality.

Um tenor dramático, não é o único, mas sim é raro!
He really isn't "unique and in a class of his own"! A bass-baritone with tight trousers. Trying to be Corelli (all that dropped-larynx technique they thought sounded good but killed Corelli's voice in the end) but without the bright and tenorial colour. He's a baritone with a high top end who couldn't actually do a good Rigoletto, so not a baritone either.
Lots of tenors in this fach seem to want to sound gravelly and strained. Thank goodness we still have recordings of Björling, Gigli, di Stefano, Tauber and many others to remind us how this should be done.

I think my concern is that tenors who try to sound all macho and manly by darkening the voice might produce something that's really exciting in a concert, but rob the opera-goer of the distinction between the tenor and the baritone on stage. Composers surely don't allocate the roles to different voices just because of a couple of notes at the top and bottom of the ranges. Anyway, I'm ranting again. Sorry. I'm not a "fundi" either, by the way - just a Grumpy Old Man.
