- One of Germany's most renowned tenors, Jonas Kaufmann, presents an evening of famous German operatic arias. Amongst them: ‘Dies Bildnis ist bezaubernd schön’ from W. A. Mozart's ‘The Magic Flute’; ‘In fernem Land’ from ‘Lohengrin’, and ‘Winterstürme’ from ‘Die Walküre’ - both by Richard Wagner; as well as pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven (‘Fidelio’), Carl Maria von Weber (‘Der Freischütz’), and Franz Lehár (‘Giuditta’). The repertoire serves as a return to Kaufmann’s roots - "I grew up with this music, it’s embedded in my genes."
Enjoy an evening of arias sung by Jonas Kaufmann and accompanied by the Munich Radio Orchestra, in a 2010 concert conducted by Michael Güttler.

Today will onne day be known as the age of Kaufmann. And Beczala IMHO. And don't get me started on baritones, sopranos, mezzos etc... Every age is a Golden Age for those with ears to hear. I am as old as the hills and was brought up on Callas Tebaldi Corelli Sutherland Horne, and I can go on for ages. I am happy to still be around and appreciating this new crop of young-(ish) singers. Take it from an old codger, one day you will be telling your grandchildren you saw Kaufmann... et al. live. Back in the good old days!

Please consider possibly the best production ever of The Magic Flute, Ingmar Bergman's, and the exceptional performances of Håkan Hagegård and others.... Hagegård's Pappageno seems to set the standard for lyrical beauty and musicality. Singers would do well to listen to this performance!

God works in mysterious ways. The beautiful gift of Jonas' vocal talent is that of the Angels, an awakening to God's true power of his gifts to us as humans. I feel uplifted and hopeful every time I hear this man sing. Absolutely beautiful as always. Powerful, mature, and produces tears of joy and wonderment at each performance. Bravo!!

Angela ... You're right ! God does work in mysterious ways ! He sings/sounds better singing in German than Italian ; the latter, in which he receives very poor ratings ; mysteriously, it's the same voice !

He gets a lot of criticism about his lack of technique, mostly by Italian critics. The Italians who prefer 'old' school singers vs modern singers. I've been listening to opera for a long time. I'm used to Corelli's magnificent voice. I will never forget him. Kaufmann will never be in the class of old school tenors, especially Corelli.
As you are Italian, what do you think of the criticisms of Kaufmann's singing ( ingolata ) ?

Kaufmann sounds better in German _because_ his flaws are not as noticeable in German as they are in Italian.
@@cliffgaither never was so into opera too pay attention to critics. Everybody's got a bone to pick when taking ones roots and heritage into consideration. I've always been drawn to Jonas because my Belgian and Italian family elders love opera. I say, you don't have to be a critic to know what you find personally beautiful. I think he's a magnificent vocalist..whether singing in Italian OR German. My family speaks BOTH languages. It doesn't matter what Jonas sings, or in what language, he has a beautiful voice, and stage presence.
Glorious voice,so much talent,I listen to Pavarotti,Domingo,Carreras and the new tenors several times to compare,but no comparison,he is the best,nobody on this generation can surpass him! 49:27

Kaufman is definite my favourite tenor but I also love the conductor. I've seen him conducting many times. And he's marvelous.

I have chosen Jonas Kaufmann as my favourite opera singer many years ago, and he still is. Awesome voice that he can actually change in the right ways according to his role. Phenomenal actor. And huge repertoire. What more can you want? His voice sounds the best all the way through his range, unlike many other popular opera singers.

Mr Kaufmann is the best Siegmund ever - because he understands that this is a LYRICAL role. Siegmund is a hero but he is a romantic hero. Mr Kaufmann conveys that perfectly

HENCE, the planting of the seeds of the dawning of the gods & the continuem of the redemption of our goddess Brunhilda.... Bless Jonas Kaufman to have manifested the most heartfelt loving personification of the Divine humanity. No words can adequately describe how I felt when he was on our @Metopera stage the first time as Sigmund years ago
