    Ever hear someone say the 308 can do everything a 30-06 can? Have yet to find a reloading book to confirm this 🤣😂😅

      308 Win is good, but the 30-06 obviously is faster

      I used to have a .308 and ended up giving it away. It could not match what my 06 can do and I didn't need it.

      .308 is to .30-06 what .30-06 is to .300wm. They just trade less recoil for less muzzle velocity and vise versus

      I have 1 and only 1 Big game rifle and in 30-06(1917 US Enfield) But I never shot at anything over 150 Yds(and it was with a 30-30) Getting a new rifle? Why not. The next rifle I get will be a 7 MM. Because I have a 8 yrs old Grandson. The environment I hunt in The #1 rifle on my list is a Browning BLR in 358 Win. And if not available in 308. Weird but no one is ever satisfied. If you can afford several guns, you can buy a few depending of where you hunt. Out to 500 yds the choices are mindebogling. I went from 338 WM(I can handle it, but Grandson?)for just 1 rifle for rabbits to grizzly. A 7 MM after endlles comparison. And setteled on a 280 AI over the 7 mm RM. Much less available, but as a reloadrer and with plenty 30-06 available, About perfect

      50 years from now. When they designed the -06 they just got it right. If you can't kill it with a 30-06, you probably shouldn't be hunting it.

    I still have the .30-06 Remington 700 ADL I bought at Wal-Mart while in high school in 1987 as my first center fire rifle. I originally shot 180 gr. Remington Cor-Lokts in it. I currently shoot 150 gr. Barnes TTSX. It still shoots MOA and has taken countless whitetail deer. I will not part with it.

    The 30-06 fan club, a place where no mulies, elk, pronghorn, whitetails, bears, etc will be found. Give me a 30-06 that accurately shoots a quality 165 grain bullet at 2800 plus fps and I’ll be a happy hunter.

      nmelkhunter1: You got that right all the way down to the exact weight. What can't that be considered at least adequate for? Nothing that matters. And we will kill that too....

    30-06 Springfield is now (as of this post) 117 years old and still going strong. The reloading data for 30-06 is probably one of the most stout in America, and its a round that is still used for hunting and 1000 yard competition shooting.
    The US Army selected 6.8x51 (Sig Fury) as their new service platform, and while yes in its hybrid configuration it does outperform .30-06, it does so at the same recoil as .30-06 and requires extreme pressures to do so. Take this in, it took modern day metallurgy and ballistics to be pushed to the extreme to outperform a 117 year old cartridge. 30-06 "Black Tip" is still the NIJ standard for Level IV armor testing, so yeah the design of the 30-06 is still a clear winner.

    Thanks for the 30-06 tribute video. It is truly America's cartridge. I've owned and hunted with my 1903A3 NRA Sporter for 45 years. My current preferred load is a mild 56gr dose of H4350 pushing a 165gr SGK or TGK @ 2800fps. I have taken lots of whitetail at ranges up to 535 yards with it. It's a remarkably accurate rifle with enough power for most anything in the US, properly loaded. For longer range (400+ yd) western big game, I step up to my 340 Bee - because, Bigger Hammer.

    How can you not love the 30-06. Can do about anything a north American will face plus a little. I still have a spot for that cartridge in my heart. Then new stuff is nice sounding and all. It dollar to dimes some of them will die on the vien and the good old 30-06 will still be chugging along. I would almost bet money I do not have on that.

    Thanks for a tribute to a well deserved icon of a cartridge. In my 50 plus years of hunting/shooting/loading, I never chose the cartridge but did load it for my brother. I have always acknowledged the versatility, power, and selection of rifles that comes with this icon. Definitely a finalist for the Mt Rushmore’s of cartridges. Thanks

    I was in my mid 20s before I acquired my first 30-06. I now have a bunch. All but are collector type of surplus firearms. I have shot 30-06 in M1 Garands competitively out to 600 yards. The Sierra 125 is one of the most accurate hunting bullets I have shot. It will work on game through deer sized.

    Great tribute video! Thats alot of data to digest👍👍
    Ive stuck with and upgraded my REM700 BDL rifle over the years. My developed 180gr Partition is the reason why I have no worries when I stalk brown bears camping on Kodiak Island.
    Moose hunting thats another story. Along with the 180's I keep a box of 220's on me and the scope to go with it just in case👍👍

    I chronographed my 30-06 with hornady 180 gr sst superformance and I got around 2850, I think we might be getting into 7mm rem mag territory!
    -I used a Weatherby Mk V altitude 24 inch barrel.
    In term of raw power, the '06 is getting in there!

    The .30-06 was the first caliber I purchased for big game hunting specifically. My modified Savage 110 Ultralight in .30-06 is the first gun I grab for in my gun cabinet when I go hunting.
    There’s nothing it can’t handle, as long as you use the best bullet for the situation and stay within the ideal distance, nothing is safe.
    I look forward to hopefully taking an elk with mine this year.

    All hail to the king!
    You sir have some very excellent and informative videos keep up the good work! I just came across this and as a huge fan of the 30-06 of course I had to watch it and comment lol
    The 30-06 is the greatest hunting cartridge ever invented mostly because it came about at a time when it was far superior to anything else and did not have a lot of competition for a long time and it didn’t hurt that the military latched onto it. And no other cartridge will have a chance to do what it has done so its place as the king is cemented in history!

    Clearly a well balanced "do it all" carthridge, easy to find, easy to reload for, not too powerful not too weak for anything inside 300 yards. Certainly capable of more than 300 yards but I would still prefer a flatter shooting carthridge to reach out to 400-500 yards. Another good "perk" of the 30-06 is how easy it is to find free brass people leave behind at the range because it is so popular. Nice vid.

    • @ReloadingWeatherby

      What cartridge do you prefer?

    • @feuerland81
      @feuerland81 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ReloadingWeatherby Since I have both a 30-06 and a 300 WM for which I relaod. I tend to keep the heavier high B.C. bullets like the 190 Acc. LR for my 300 WM. Just because it takes full advantage of it with the extra speed. Because of that I usually use nothing heavier than 165gr for the 30-06. I see these two carthridges as a good duo for different hunting scenarios. I would not feel undergun with only a 30-06 though. It is a really good and capable carthridge. Like you said, with modern powders and bullets, it is better than it's ever been!

    The hornady manual is definitely conservative. Chronograph with magneto speed, a 165 gr sst with 61.9gr of superformance powder will push that pill just over 3000fps. I use 61.8gr and get consistent high 2980s low 2990s from 24in barrel.

    I was playing with a ballistics calculator the other day, and since heavy bullets and BC seem to the thing today I decided to play some games. I was pretty shocked by the numbers if a guy wanted to hand load some 208gr barnes in a fast twist 30-06 what numbers you could get at 600 yards. I'm almost tempted to rebarrel a rifle, load some bullets, and test it out just for fun.

  • @ScottGostick
    @ScottGostick ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It is important to note that 30-06 is quite frequently found with 1-11 twist. 270 is standard at 1-10, and will stabilize a 150 ABLR at almost equal margins to a 1-11 twist - 06 with the 190.
    I feel both of those bullet weights are beyond the optimal zone for those cartridges.
    30-06 certainly worthy of the praise and not something that will fade into obscurity within our lifetimes.

    • @ReloadingWeatherby
      @ReloadingWeatherby  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I just looked up popular rifle manufacturers.... and only two companies make the 30-06 with a 1-11 twist that I could find. Sako and Tikka. Remington, Browning, Winchester, Savage, Weatherby, Bergara and Christensen all have the 30-06 with a 1-10 twist

    • @jamiehurtt3530
      @jamiehurtt3530 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      06 is predominantly 1 in 10 twist
      Always has been
      1 in 11 is much more infrequent
      1 in 10 twist stsbilizes 210 grain
      ablr .661 g1 bc
      Bullets at 2600 + fps and has well over 1500 ft lbs of energy out to 600 yds .you don't get that kind of terminal performance , energy in lighter bullets at that distance

      Ha, ha, ha! That's so true. It's a cartridge with quiet confidence. The .30-06 sort of reminds me of the quiet guy at work who just gets the job done, as opposed to the flashy loudmouth who talks more than he works.

    The 270 win with a 1:10 twist easily stabilizes a 50 gr Accubond long range. I get 3000 fps with Norma MRP. That's 3000 ft lbs at the muzzle, and 2388 fps and 1900 ft lbs at 400

  • @MD-mm1zv
    @MD-mm1zv 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I would think both it, and it's junior, the .270 Winchester, would be ideal for hogs (sub 300 yards) on the lower end of grain weight using something like the interbond non-BT.
    Less recoil, but, plenty of tissue damage on feral pests.
    Whaddya think?

    I have a 1903 Springfield Sporter that will not shoot any factory ammo I have found yet. 3 to 4 in at 100yds is the best it will do.
    However, 165gr Barnes TTSX, 50gr of IMR 4064 is money!
    I was able to stop right there, sub moa @ 100yds.
    This load will stop any game on the planet up to the size of moose easily and humanely, (save the big bears or dangerous game)!

    • @ReloadingWeatherby
      @ReloadingWeatherby  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When comparing cartridges of different calibers you should compare similar B.C. or SD not bullet weight. The cartridges that are smaller in diameter will have a much better B.C. For example I would compare a 150 gr 30-06 bullet to a 150 gr 6.5 Creedmoor bullet. The Creedmoor would have a much better B.C.
