@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC My RC10 quick download... I bought my Gen1 RC10 in 1989. A few years earlier, there had been a major boom in RC car racing, but by 1989, the only real racing was clay oval. This was back in the Mid-Atlantic. I bought it because I wanted one to beat around with. Then I discovered the aforementioned clay oval racing.
You ask... how does one go oval racing with an off road car? You modify the hell out of it. That front kick-up plate? Gone. Great for landing, sucks for ovals. Do it's gone. I first hammered mine flat, but ultimately replaced it with a piece of 1/8" thick fiberglass sheet. The next trick, swap front upright blocks... but you have to machine out the block so the steering will work. This negates all the caster. Add front shocks to the rear. The best trick for the front end was a laydown front shock kit. Worked great. That lowered the car. Add a Scott Bloomquist supermod wedge body. Cut some tread into foam tires. the old Ofna gas tires worked best. The rest is setup and good driving. What a hoot.
You have to realize, at this time, the hotness in clay oval was CustomWorks, still is, but it started then. And these modified RC10s actually worked well. Another option was the dearly departed Bo-Link.I have a vintage CustomWorks, Dominator, I think... it's been a while. But they are fast... There were other brands, but I don't remember them.
As for the old Veri-lock diff on the RC10. Great trick, but horribly inefficient. I was told how to fix it, spend a weekend on it... using some hobby sandpaper, some old school Crest tooth paste and start working the gears. Get those nylon gears all cleaned up and allow them to mesh with the metal gears, akin to hand fitting the parts, really. When done, you should be able to spin the wheel (no motor) and the gearbox should spin for upwards of 2 minutes by shear freedom of motion. That change was epic. I ended up upgrading to the Stealth, only because parts for the Veri-Lock became damned near impossible to find.

I have one that my late uncle gave me when I was 16. A guy at work gave me his in perfect collector condition last year. Just gave it to me! It's been ran but it's clean, no scratches on the chassis. Only a few packs thru it. I bought the world's car re-release kit in 2015. That slight bit of extra weight from the aluminum chassis gives me more bite at the track than the newer composite chassis vehicles. Especially in packed and also loose terrain.
Amazing feeling driving my 2014 Blk pan worlds car smoking these new buggy's at the track.
I was born in 1988 and it's really a time machine to drive the original gold pan too. Its original with the am 75mhz radio, nimh batteries and mechanical speed control. My second on Had the orange Novak esc.
Thank you for the nostalgic highlights.

when they had the re-issue a few years ago, I bought a few and made them like I always wanted to as a kid. The first time I saw an RC10 was when I worked at a Hobbyshop and we carried the Tamiya line. The distributor rep ran 2 battery packs in a stock RC10 in front of the shop and our jaws dropped. No one who worked at the store ever spent a dime on tamiya again! LOL! (except those 1/24 tamtechs, those were ahead of their time)

Keeping the track close to the same is just about impossible when we are going through seasons/years...but we try our best. The reason I try (doesn't always happen) to shoot in at least 2k/4k lately is so you guys can pause it and get a clean picture in high resolution. It's not always easy to make happen...but I feel it's helpful for just that reason. I really appreciate the comment my friend.

    Superb video fella! 👌
Loved the Intro, and the in depth walk around the legends engineering up close.
That thing still absolutely flat out performs like a champ, despite it's age.... its thoroughbred roots strongly shining through on the track.
It's very clear to see why it always dominated the league tables in all the rc car mags I used to read religiously back in the day!
I've built/driven/raced many rc cars over the years but never had the privilege of driving one of these unfortunately
I know the modern stuff is faster/stronger/better handling but I struggle to get excited by the 'cab forward' generation of rc's..... where as these vintage ones generate the same feelings that I used to get as a ten year old back in the eighties!
That's why it's such a treat to see it restored, and then driven around a proper track..... which is looking great by the way! 🙏
Magnificent content fella, keep up the great work. 👍 👍 👍 👍

Not long after my cousin got his and after seeing it perform...well I was blown away. Rock on brother.

Honestly...I have a stash of hardware from collecting over the years so I haven't had to look. I have used the stainless kits on my other cars in the past...but they just don't look right on a 10 imo. Also...need to be careful because the bottom screws don't have a standard counter sink ( I'm pretty sure the 10 has 100 degrees c.s. on the bottom) if I recall...people are able to get the larger correct bottom screws from McMaster Carr. It is always a good idea to hook up with some of the Rc10 groups on Facebook as well (Rc10talk ect.). Those guys are an endless source of education on everything Gold pan.
