Excellent video with step by step instructions that are very easy to follow. The only issue I had was actually removing the old ice maker. It took some time and patience. I had to wiggle and jiggle it back and forth and up and down. It is hard to get much of a grip on it but I finally discovered that by grasping the wiring harness that I had disconnected and pulling on that from side to side and up and down it finally broke lose and then came right out. The rest was all very simple. After the job was complete it took 10 hours to get the first load of ice to dump but by the next morning the ice bin was full and it continues to work as it should. Also, pay attention to his comment on shining a light along the edge of the bottom of the ice maker. When I did that I saw light come through the entire bottom where it meets the wall. That may have contributed to it not working in the first place. I couldn't get my caulking gun to fit under there so I had to just put some caulk on a finger several times and wipe it along the edge from back to front. It isn't pretty but it also isnt visible and it did seal the opening. BTW, there was a class action suit against Samsung for these ice makers settled some years ago. So after I bought the new ice maker but before installing I called Samsung support to see if I could find a fix without having to replace it. I thought they might feel some obligation to fix this since it is a known issue. They walked me through some troubleshooting tips but none of them helped so they then offered to send out a Samsung repair tech with new ice maker and install it for free, parts and labor, no charge. The catch was, if the new ice maker didn't work meaning it was a different issue I would owe them $300-$600 for the service call depending on his time involved. Since I already had bought the new ice maker from Amazon for $99 I decided not to have them come out and just fixed it myself rather than risk that expense. Afterwards I thought they probably told me that 300-600 charge just to scare me away from having their guy come out, it worked. Finally, this guy in the vid sounds like a young TV actor I have seen on some show but I couldn't place the TV show it was from or the actor. Anyone else find that? Great job Mr Parts Dr.
I really appreciate the video, I was eventually able to get the ice maker out. It was more difficult in my case because the entire assembly was a block of ice, so I had to carefully chip away at the stuff I could, run a defrost cycle, hit it with the hairdryer for 10 minutes, run another defrost cycle, more hair dryer, and finally I was able to remove it. You know, for expensive fridges the ice maker really sucks.
I read that for this style of Samsung fridge ice maker, they are aware of the excessive frost/freezing, and built a replacement with changes made to cycle timers and stuff, but it's not free. :(
Does force defrost mode defrost the entire fridge or just the ice box. I have the same issue and I'm hoping I'm not about to ruin all the food in my fridge.
@@thecoalregioncarpenter7498 there are multiple options for defrost. Once enabled, be sure to cycle the setting to "Fr". If you go past it don't worry, you can keep pressing a button to go back to it. The "Fr" setting only defrosts the icemaker, your food in other parts of the fridge/freezer will be okay.
Thanks! Truly appreciate your video. Our ice maker had completely stopped making ice, and we were doubtful that we could do this successfully by ourselves. I cannot tell you the EXCITEMENT when I heard the ice drop!! 🎉 As any FYI for other people doing this at home - it took about 24 hours for the display to return to normal. Everything is perfect now.
i thank Part Dr for providing this video to fix a problem with the last Samsung product that I will ever buy. I had additional problems with defrosting the coil tube. I read several other comments that helped me to do the job right. The forced defrost did not work well but I alternated between it and a blow dryer which took a long time. Most of my time was spent on defrosting. After removing the electrical hook up and getting the ice maker dropped, the build up of ice/frost did not allow the ice maker to be pulled out. I hooked up the electrical connection to prevent any water to get into the wiring. The two button shut off didn't work but I could shut off the power to the POS frig from the panel box. I had the power turn on to do the force defrost and then use the blow dryer. I had the ice maker shut off on the touch screen but it would chill after the force defrost while using the blow dryer and start to accumulate frost again. I would have turned the power off while blow drying if I had to do it over. I did turn the power off to complete the job. Next frig which may be tomorrow will be an LG. I recommend that anyone reading this prior to replacing the ice maker read several other comments so they too can know what to do if they run into problems with this POS refrigerator. Peace out!
Hi there. These instructions were awesome! Just a couple of notes from my experience. My refrigerator was a 2016 and the button combinations to turn off the fridge and do the force defrost that are shown in the video didn't work (and of course the Samsung user's manual and online chat were no help) so we just flipped the breaker to turn off the fridge. Also, if anyone had an "ice jam" like we did be prepared to take significant time to melt the built up ice before installing the new unit. And I highly recommend buying the clips recommended. Our model didn't need them. We didn't know that and bought them anyhow. Boy would I have been mad if I went through all that work and then realized that we needed them. They are just a few bucks so worth the saved aggravation if you do need them. The parts are great and this video was really clear! Thank you.
Thank you so much for this video! I was at my wit's end after several months of my ice maker not working. It froze over so many times that it finally gave up and I ended up buying a stand-alone ice maker. Then I found your video! I installed the replacement ice maker with the help of your video and had ice in about four hours. Wow!
Did this today. This video was a godsend. I'm good with mechanicals of all sorts, but I don't think I would have figured this out myself! Thanks, guys!
After three years of continual problems with our Samsung ice maker and it finally stopping working altogether (even after defrosting), I order a replacement from Parts Dr. It came today, and in about 10 minutes I had the unit swapped out. We have ice a few hours later! Yeahhhhhh!
I know this video is a couple years old, but thank you SO much! It was clear and detailed, and gave me the confidence to change our ice maker out all on my own. :)
This video is fantastic! The directions are very clear. I watched it twice before I started installing the new ice maker. It took a little more elbow grease for me than this guy, but everything went together perfectly and ice started dropping about 5 hours later- something I haven’t heard in over a year!
I am very thankful that I watched your video before I tore out my old unit and destroyed the coolant loop (and destroying my fridge). Icemaker lasted about 2 years before completely locking up as a huge block of ice. Got a new one from my FIL.
Great video, Thank you! Our ice maker was stuck, thanks to your video I was able to put it into defrost mode, pull the ice maker out, thaw out a solid ice cluster in the cavity and put it all back together. Works perfect
I can't thank you enough for this video! Every step was clearly shown and explained. My daughter and I changed it out without issue. I hope it solves the problem. The freezer made ice but it freezes up & I was using a hairdryer to defrost it. We shall see. Thank you again!
Found the ultimate solution to this problem: take a sledgehammer and smash the ice maker to pieces. Put refrigerator in garage and use as new beer fridge. Go out and buy a quality non-Samsung product to replace.
Samsung appliances are all junk. All in my kitchen have broke or have issues. Less then 3 years already replaced dishwasher, don't use self clean in stove it is eat itself up, screamed at samsung to repair out of warranty. The microwave does this annoying beeping at goes to 7 sec and today I replaced icemaker. Next year remodeling kitchen and I'm going to dump all these 3yo appliances and go back to kitchen aid.
@@coconnor72 Actually I have found their TVs to be junk too. Had a 4k Smart TV for 2 years and it freezes up, turns off randomly and cannot connect to WiFi. We don't have any downloaded extra apps on it either. I am done with Samsung
I think this is about one of the best You Tube diy videos out there. It’s a shame that we need it in the first place but at long as Samsung puts out junk Dr. Parts will have our back.
Excellent video. I replaced my ice maker about 1.5 months ago with the updated part that has no little notch in the back. It used to frost over every couple of days. With the new part (knock on wood) it has been frost free. A freakin miracle!
Fantastic video!!! I purchased this ice maker from Parts Dr and replaced it in about 20 minutes. It's working great now! I didn't have a lot of ice built up around the old ice maker so, rather than force the refrigerator into defrost mode, I simply turned it off (at the breaker) and used a hairdryer to melt any ice/frost on the broken ice maker's cooling coil before I attempted to take it out. Thanks!!!
For the 4 door (French door) Samsung, the buttons to hold down to enter the forced defrost mode are the freezer and lighting buttons. Other than that, once the defrost cycle is complete (about 20 minutes for my model-RF28JBEDBSD), you can just follow the video. Great stuff-thanks for posting!
@@PartsDr my refrig does not have the referred button to force defrost. I have freezer, door alarm, energy saver, fridge, cool select, and ice maker off. Ideas?
I have the 4-door model. Pressing the CoolSelect and Fridge together for 8sec enters the select option mode; then push the Freezer button to cycle to Fd
Great video... the icemaker on our Samsung quit during the past few days. Once I make sure the assembly is the same as shown here, I'm going to order the new unit online and make the repair myself. Thanks for posting!
Bless you kind gentlefolk. I had tremendous ice buildup, and I probably would have destroyed the fridge (2013 RF263BEAEBC) if I wouldn't have had this video. Always helpful to know the sooper sekrit button press combos! I will definitely get the sealant if the ice continues to build up.
@@Gibberish75 I bit the bullet and had the ice maker and other parts replaced a few weeks ago. The local repair business had a trick "he and other technicians had discussed online" 😳 for also getting rid of ice buildup in the cooling unit at the back of the main fridge compartment, and ice buildup in the freezer. My ice maker/fridge/freezer have been ice buildup-free for about a month now. Cost me $400 but I was going to junk the fridge otherwise. Glad to have a fully functional fridge again!
Bought the french door version with dual ice-makers from Lowes with the insurance coverage (Smart decision!). The unit (ice-maker) had to be serviced 5 times and Lowes refunded me the purchase price! Still using the unit, having to de-ice every 2-3 months, but hey, it is free! Just bought ice-maker assembly to replace old one. Will eventually replace unit. Great video!
PartsDr. Utube video on replacing a Samsung RF24FSEDBSR/AA ice maker is fantastic. Watched it thoroughly a couple of times, ( bought the Samsung ice maker replacement part from Parts.Dr.) then replaced the ice maker. His video is fantastic. My only additional comment after replacing the ice maker is to push the little blue reset button on the left inside of the new ice maker. Thank you PartsDr. & your fantastic video. We now have ice. Hallelujah!
This was a great video on how to change as well as provide much needed codes to defrost as well as shut down the unit. We have a Samsumg French door model. Ice unit was replaced about 3 years ago with upgrade. Worked well for about 2 years, then it just started icing up. Every 3 weeks would have to deice to clear. So replacing the unit today. Also found that the sealant used, while showing in place was old. Removed all old sealant and re-sealed. I did notice something, that others may have observed. The upper shelve that folds that's attached to the ice maker box, I am going to assume that the weight placed on this may be causing the sealant to weakness. As the shelve is screwed to the box, thus placing a load on the plastic housing that may result in weakening the sealant. This could perhaps cause air to cycle into the box cavity and add to the ice buildup and needing to defrost/clear the ice. So going to redistribute the weight and see what happens. Will monitor and update how the process unfolds, but again thanks Part Dr for the valuable video.
Excellent video, 100% clear and understandable. It saved me quite some money for the only authorised repair shop 400 km around. They want 79 € (93 $) only for sending a quote! Spare parts, travel and time would be on top. It's this only authorised Samsung repair shop 400 km around. Following your video, I defrosted, took it out, dried it and placed it back. Then it worked again! This repair didn't cost me anything. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Still shame on Samsung, a three year old $2400 top line fridge should be a lot more repair friendly. Actually it should not even break. And Samsung should review the financial practices of their agreed repair centres.
I concur, one of the best DIY videos I have ever seen! And I've been dragged from DIY to Aliens and Lizard people videos for hours, so that is a lot of videos I have seen...LOL. Great video and excellent articulation on the steps. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. Very helpful. I helped a neighbor with her fridge. I kind of wish I could hear what was going on with your fridge sound wise when you pushed buttons but the background music was too loud. It wasn't my fridge so I was not familiar with the buttons. It didn't stop me from being able to do the job so thanks again.
I did this change out with a new ice maker. Followed the video step-by-step, took about two hours (including defrost time). It went perfectly. Now we have ice cubes again! THANK YOU! I did notice light coming through the seam between the refer wall and the ice maker compartment, so I'm buying some Samsung sealant to address that issue. Hopefully that will be the end of dealing with this.
Got me off to a great start. Would have also loved a video on how to replace the auger motor. I did finish it, but not before dealing with a “hockey puck” sized chunk of ice right above the fan on the auger motor which kept it frozen in place. Can’t believe Samsung did not recall this engineering debacle.
@@davidhelgerson3678 Advice on this ice maker..... Pull your Samsung into the street and light it on fire. 2 years on I have replaced everything twice. Re sealed everything 4 times, and it always freezes back up within a month. Samsung has a class action law suit they have been working on for a while around this and said the problem has been fixed for a few years now. I was at buddies house 2 months ago and he had one of the really cool Samsung 4 doors with wifi. Ice maker completely frozen up. less than a year old...
Well done. I've watched a few videos on this process by now and this is a good one. Clear, concise, and easy to follow. One minor nit, I don't think you mentioned putting the screw back in the ice maker. Still, great job. Thanks.
Excellent video. A couple of notes from my repair. My fridge uses FREEZER+ALARM+FRIDGE to turn it O FF (a.k.a. Demo Mode) rather than just FREEZER+ALARM. You CAN use a hair dryer if necessary, but only on the coolest heat setting - anything warmer is likely to warp the plastic parts of the maker. My icemaker tends to get an ice dam buildup at the back of the icemaker where it touches the styrofoam at the back wall of the fridge. There is a duct there that needs to be ice free. Make sure that duct is clear before re-installing your icemaker. Finally, when replacing the screws, I suggest using a manual screwdriver, not power (or use one with a clutch set on very low torque). Again, this is very soft plastic, and you could strip the hole. Good luck!
I am watching the technician right now replace mine and he strongly recommends never ever using a hairdryer on any setting as it can cause damage to the internal parts such as wiring harness and plastic , this will VOID Warranty
Over time I have found that using a hair dryer can work, but it is challenging because it is easy to let the plastic pieces get too hot. A far better choice is something that puts out steam. I currently use the steam unit from a wallpaper remover unit (without attaching the piece that attaches to the end of the hose). That way, you're getting very hot, but not too hot, air (steam) to melt the ice. I have to defrost my icemaker about every six weeks this way, just like we did with my parents' ancient Servel gas fridge in the 60's. I had hoped Samsung had a more modern icemaker, but at least we don't have to use ice trays anymore!
This video was incredible! I've been struggling with our ice maker for years. I ordered the replacement ice maker and the Y-clips. I suspect that I may have only had to add the y-clips though, since I noticed when I took the old unit out, the only ice buildup was at the base of the cooling coil. Still, my old unit was an outdated one, so I replaced it all and it has been working like a charm. It was well-worth the hundred bucks I spent for the unit, to eliminate the need to call the repairman. I can only hope it keeps working. I think I will routinely do the "forced defrost" just to maintain it. Thanks for a great video.
I did this in 30 minutes total. From power down the fridge, to power up the fridge. I did NOT use defrost mode; and did NOT empty the fridge. (but thanks for including those in your video)
Does Samsung have service bulletin on this? My fridge less than 2 yrs old......are these parts/ service covered? Kinda like a recall? Or is this out of pocket?😡
@@theusconstitution1776 The mfg warrantee is only for 90 days, unless you purchased an extended warrantee. The other item of note is that most retailers (in my case, Home Depot) say they know nothing about any problems, even though it's all over the web.
I bought the "Y" clip kit and it has made a world of difference. My refrigerator came with the wheels adjusted so as to tilt the refrigerator slightly back towards the drain. I believe that if the motherboard is working properly the icemaker goes into a defrost mode either automatically or if a detector senses the ice buildup. This is what it seems like to me but not substantiated. There is also a heater which surrounds the drain tub to thaw out any ice buildup in the tub which if it is blocked with ice the water will overflow into the fan and auger motor module causing more problems.
I, like everyone else, was seriously thinking of smashing the hell out of my icecube maker. Thanks so much for the great video!! Just to confirm a little tip..."NEVER" USE A HAIRDRYER ON HOT TO DEFROST YOUR FRIDGE -FREEZER, NOT EVEN ON WARM!!! Both of these settings will melt or mottle or warp your appliance!!! HAPPY DEFROSTING!!
One thing that solves the issue in most of the cases is to ensure that the fridge is in a slight angle, having the front a bit higher. The wheels in the bottom of the device should not be touching the ground. Only the two "legs" that you have to turn clockwise to lift. No more ice buildup, no more water trickling when you get ice
I love it when people such as you "hack" these convoluted electronic and secret systems and share with the rest of us. It's a real shame that a company as big as Samsung is ripping people off as they are with these refrigerators. Your video is AWESOME! I am a DIY-er but never expected to have to be with a brand new kitchen suite! Why couldn't Samsung do that? What do they think? I'm gonna buy a $2000 fridge then continue to pay hundreds to solve their problems? Stay away from Samsung appliances!
The price has gone up closer to $3,000.00 but they need to get the engineers that designed this icemaker and tell us how it works and how to solve these problems.
The trouble is that the problems are fixable, but they have very poor technical support for the service tech. Many are left in the dark when it comes to Samsung refrigerators. They have more electronics than a transistor radio.
The back story is that both LG and Samsung are Korean Made. When they designed actual appliances they realized that they needed ice makers in order for the US consumer to purchase them. Using ice is more of an American thing. Since the main patents are held by Chinese companies they would not grant patent permissions to these companies to use. Usually you can use other peoples patents in manufacturing with permission and a for a small fee. So these companies had to redesign ice makers without infringing on other company patents. Actually the Koreans have been designing electronics for the rest of the world and are far better quality than Chinese competitors. Japan switched to selling raw materials years ago so they no longer are the leader. Most all of the American Brands have sold out and are Made in China. The quality is nothing like it was 30 years ago.
@@jmcwatchdog526 The problem is that these dumb Fu*ks is they do not take responsibility for their trash products, Samsung knows about their ice maker problem but does not issue a recall, in the meantime on the side they sell kits to fix it.
This is helpful... will check tonight. .. Well, I wrote that 6 months ago lol... but I finally got to work on my daughter's fridge - there was ice build up on the evaporator fan/coils causing noises.... Took a good 90 minutes of warm air blowing in to release the panel. It's worth to mention she got the fridge used (a big no-no but it was too late for me to intervene)... anyway, someone was there before, on the icemaker used, probably, a heat gun to defrost it causing the back panel to warp and the top melt.... I was able to take the ice maker out, but had to chip the molten plastic to remove the auger assembly, then finally dry things out, and caulk the icebox compartment. It is quite easy process IF THERE IS NO ICE BUILD UP..... what I'm saying is: allow time to fully defrost before you work on this fridge. And I said it before: if this fridge was an operating system, it would be Windows 8 ... if it was a car, it would the Ford Pinto....... Thanks for the valuable tips on this video !
Step 1: pull out old part Step 2: throw it on the ground and stomp on it Step 3: get some ice trays from target Step 4: only by TVs from Samsung in the future
Thanks for the video. I have had to do this now 3 times with our Samsung over 3-4 years. Very frustrating. I have taken the everything out and completely defrosted this area, but it is a problem with Samsung ice makers. From what I’ve read when this fridge gets old enough to be the outdoor fridge I will buy a different model but check reviews so we don’t go from bad to worse! I did like the post that suggests a sledgehammer for the ice maker once removed!
Great video. Our version of the fridge does not appear to have the feature that you can switch it off using a button combination. That meant I had to empty out the fridge and freezer to pull it out so I could unplug it from the electric socket. My tip is have it plugged in somewhere where you don't have to do this, since there is always the risk of damaging the water line or connection as you are moving the fridge / freezer out or back. The food in the fridge and freezer should remain suitably cold for a few hours while it is off. Move any medications that need to remain cold to another fridge if possible. Place a pan or something similar under the ice box to catch the water as it thaws / defrosts. It should be small enough to comfortably sit directly under the ice box while the french door is open. Let your family, visitors, friends know not to try and close the french door while you are busy trying to get the piece of junk ice box working again.
Thanks for this. Ordered a replacement Ice Maker & had it shipped to New Zealand fron USA. Followed your video. Our original had all broken on the bottom piece of plastic & stopped working altogether. Hoping we get ice in the next hour or 2 🤞🤞
The defrost mode may have just fixed mine. While in DF mode some ice cubes dropped so, we will see in 24 hours. If it is faulty I will be purchasing the new ice maker from Parts Dr. Thank you.
My fridge lives on! Thanks for the help on this video. I also purchased the replacement ice maker from your website and it is making ice. The part of the video though didn't actually turn off my fridge (my buttons where slightly different. Thanks for the video and step by step walkthrough.
We bought all Samsung appliances back in October of 2016. Kitchen and laundry room. It’s now June of 2022. Besides the very ignorantly engineered ice maker, everything else has worked great until this year. I just had to replace one of the rollers inside the dryer for the drum otherwise they have worked very well. I can’t believe a company as big as Samsung was not able to come up with a fix for this we will never buy SamJunk again that is for sure. When we first bought everything we called and had the repair guys come out here six different times to try many different things with the Ice Maker and finally Samsung said just cut the cord send us a picture and we will refund you the money. Well I stalled with the picture because I told them I needed to get a replacement refrigerator so they gave me the money and never asked me for the picture of the cord so we got at least a free refrigerator freezer out of it LOL.
@@loosenut1969 funny you say that about the dryer, I had to just do the same, this yr. Unfortunately its a stackable took me a while to get down. But then the vents starting rattling and had to take down and secure it. I replaced ice maker NOT the board. And it has worked perfectly for a while. I noticed the big difference with it is the inlet tube is larger on the new one but i have had zero problems and its been a few months.
Very helpful video. I'm not getting water to my Samsung ice maker. How do you remove the water filter housing to check the water valve? Does it just pry up and un-snap? I don't want to break anything.
I wasn't getting water to mine either. I ended up replacing the icemaker with the updated version DA97-15217D and it is now requesting and filling with water. If you have the DA97-15217A, you may try replacing it as the first step in troubleshooting. It worked for me and I get the filling sound of water and ice a couple hours later.
Thanks - made a replacement super easy. Let's see if I can now avoid needing to defrost the thing every two weeks to get ice. 927k views - maybe Samsung will settle that class action suit one of these years!
Thank you. I was waiting for a sale and I was going to throw my 4 year old refrigerator out. But you sir have gave it a second life. Many thanks. And my girls also thank you.
If there is ice in the icemaker tray and the icemaker compartment temp is below 20f and it isn't harvesting the ice you may have a bad ice maker or bad main control board. We haven't seen a process to completely narrow down which is bad on these refrigerators. We would recommend to start by replacing the ice maker and if you continue to have issues replace the main control board next.
Same on mine. Just more convoluted cryptic Samsung crap. Looks like they use the same hardware and buttons are programmed differently to confuse us. The only confusion I have is, how the hell are they still in the refrigerator business. These icemakers are high tech garbage. By the way BEWARE I learned yester day that the crisper drawers are made in 3 parts with fronts clipped onto drawers. THEY ARE NOT WATERTIGHT. A roast leaked and I pulled the drawer out to clean it and it dripped out the bottom and got all in betwee the white and clear plastic front. Why aren't they sealed? WTF? I wonder what else I'll discover is wrong with my fridge.

Excellent video. Really helped with replacing the ice maker. I had to pry down a little on the ice maker with a flat blade screw driver to clear the latch on top before it would pull forward. I did all of the upgrades - sealant, y-clips, adjusted water inlet tubing insertion depth. Hoping this fixes the ice maker from freezing up once and for all!!!

My ice maker was freezing up and so I watched your video and it seemed like a job I could do so I ordered the ice maker from Parts Dr. Within a few days the ice maker arrived and I placed my laptop next to the Samsung and played your video. You made this job so easy and within 15mins I had my old ice maker out and the new one installed. Now I;ll wait to see if this fixes the problem. Thank you so much for making this video for everyone!
It has been over 6 hrs since I replaced the ice maker and it is making ice like a champ! The real test will be in a day or two to see if it freezing over.
Very detailed and helpful, thank you. Using this video and a lot of loud profanity, I was able to get my icemaker installed. This is the fourth ice maker so far in this stupid fridge (the other attempted replacements were done under the warranty) so I don't have high hopes that the thing will last, but fingers crossed!
Thanks for this tutorial... Although my Samsung wouldn't turn off the way you instruct (and my manual said the same thing)... I was able to replay it within 10-15 minutes. Making new ice within a couple hours... Thanks!
Super helpful, mi ice makes sometimes freeze and I have to force to de-frost, and yesterday did the same I did de-frost again and reset it.it took almost 24 hours to start to produce ice again, but in case I nee to replace the oven maker, your video is self explanatory on how to tackle the repair, on I'm a maintenance on an apartment building and it's super exciting for me to continue learning more.. thanks for the video I'm a subscriber now!
This video was very helpful. My model fridge was different so the button sequences were in different locations. But all in all, this video stepped me through the entire process.
This video was a life-saver. Well, maybe that's a bit dramatic, but it was extremely useful as it helped me dislodge a block of ice that had inexplicably become lodged and prevented the maker from rotating. Nothing left to be said about this exquisitely bad ice maker that hasn't already been said.
@@PartsDr thanks i will. i also had ice buildup yesterday in the fridg. compartment hitting the fan. frig defrost 2-3 times fixed the problem. looks like ice building up again this morning inside on the plastic. im guessing the defrost sensor. also seen on another video where they moved sensor over to the pipe next to it on the left so it would make the heater work longer? looked like a great mod. appreciate your help on that
Thank you so much, this was really easy to follow, and I have successfully replaced our ice maker. I don't have the screen off function, so had to turn off power at the wall.
Great Video! Only one note to those changing out the Ice Maker. The units are back ordered and difficult to come by. ALSO, if you remove the Ice Maker the refrigerator will continue to operate, HOWEVER the front panel is locked out and will display error codes 13C,14C and 39C until a new ice maker is installed.

@@PartsDr update... Success! Even after a 14 min FD wait, there was a ton of ice at the base of the coil. I had issue getting the new one seated but my friend msgd me a lil bit ago and said it works! @@PartsDr I'm not sure actually. She ordered it direct and they sent her two (said she's gonna give me the spare cuz I have the same, but the 4 door model) It's been working great tho she says.
Very nice demonstration with great camera views. Our ice maker was blocked with frozen water and wouldn't make ice. I had to chip away some ice to remove the tray. Called Samsung and there replacing it for free but I saved this video in case I need it for future reference.

Thank you! I replaced mine this morning following your video instructions. Now a couple hours later I just heard cubes drop into the tray! Yay!
Awesome! Nice job!
Great tip about being careful of the the coil as to not break the fridge. This is why I watch these videos instead of tinker.
We have seen way too many people ruin their refrigerators by damaging that coil! We are glad you found this video first!
We are glad you found the video helpful!
I read that for this style of Samsung fridge ice maker, they are aware of the excessive frost/freezing, and built a replacement with changes made to cycle timers and stuff, but it's not free. :(
We used a hair dryer and a towel to catch the melted ice. I was worried about damaging something - particularly the coil.
As any FYI for other people doing this at home - it took about 24 hours for the display to return to normal. Everything is perfect now.
Nice job fixing it yourself! Thank you for supporting us!
i thank Part Dr for providing this video to fix a problem with the last Samsung product that I will ever buy. Peace out!
Thanks for sharing!
I did have to push the blue reset button on the upper right side of the ice maker before it started to making ice.
Thank you.
Great advice!
Thank you so much for this video! I was at my wit's end after several months of my ice maker not working. It froze over so many times that it finally gave up and I ended up buying a stand-alone ice maker. Then I found your video! I installed the replacement ice maker with the help of your video and had ice in about four hours. Wow!
Nice job!
Did this today. This video was a godsend. I'm good with mechanicals of all sorts, but I don't think I would have figured this out myself! Thanks, guys!
Great to hear! We are glad you found it helpful!
Did you replace it because of wet ice and continuous freeze up issues? Just trying to figure out if that will help me

Awesome! Nice job replacing your own ice maker!
This video is fantastic! The directions are very clear. I watched it twice before I started installing the new ice maker. It took a little more elbow grease for me than this guy, but everything went together perfectly and ice started dropping about 5 hours later- something I haven’t heard in over a year!

Great video........you saved me a $100 service charge.
Wife is very happy, she says thanks too.
Awesome!
I am very thankful that I watched your video before I tore out my old unit and destroyed the coolant loop (and destroying my fridge). Icemaker lasted about 2 years before completely locking up as a huge block of ice. Got a new one from my FIL.
Glad you found this video!
Great! Let us know how it works!
Found the ultimate solution to this problem: take a sledgehammer and smash the ice maker to pieces. Put refrigerator in garage and use as new beer fridge. Go out and buy a quality non-Samsung product to replace.
Best solution yet!
LOL!
Samsung appliances are all junk. All in my kitchen have broke or have issues. Less then 3 years already replaced dishwasher, don't use self clean in stove it is eat itself up, screamed at samsung to repair out of warranty.

Thanks!!!
Nice job fixing it yourself!
Thanks for the tip on that model refrigerator!

This is the best samsung ice maker video on the web. Great job 👍
Thanks! 😃
This one of a few really good DYI videos, detailed and simple to follow it's instructions.
How did it work?
Awesome! Nice job with the repair!

I kind of wish I could hear what was going on with your fridge sound wise when you pushed buttons but the background music was too loud. It wasn't my fridge so I was not familiar with the buttons. It didn't stop me from being able to do the job so thanks again.
My icemaker is working but clogs up due to too much moisture. The end of this video gives insight into the fix. Great Video!
Great job on the repair!
That's what I'm looking for. Do you have a link or advice?
Thanks.
Thank you!
Good luck!
Thanks for sharing!
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing!
I did this in 30 minutes total. From power down the fridge, to power up the fridge. I did NOT use defrost mode; and did NOT empty the fridge. (but thanks for including those in your video)

Thank you! We just got our Samsung French Door refrigerator and could not figure out how to open the ice bucket!!!! Now we know how thanks to you!
Great! We are glad you found it helpful!
Thanks for the feedback!
Many Thanks! I’ve ordered the ice maker from you guys directly instead of Amazon. Will support you guys in future.
Thank you for the order! Nice job fixing it!
I am going through the defrosting process right now. I am gonna check that, good call.

Good old days that you went to Sears and bought a refrigerator that lasted a life time
@@jmcwatchdog526 The problem is that these dumb Fu*ks is they do not take responsibility for their trash products, Samsung knows about their ice maker problem but does not issue a recall, in the meantime on the side they sell kits to fix it.
Step 1: pull out old part
Step 2: throw it on the ground and stomp on it
Step 3: get some ice trays from target
Step 4: only by TVs from Samsung in the future
Step #2 temporarily solved my Samsung TV problems. Bought "LG" TV. No more TV problems.
You are so right. When ours craps out I tell the wife get out the ice trays the damn thing stopped working again.🤣
I bought a small ice maker and put it downstairs shut the fridge one off
Thanks for the video.
Let your family, visitors, friends know not to try and close the french door while you are busy trying to get the piece of junk ice box working again.
on mine the triple combo of freezer / alarm / fridge buttons worked

Worst appliances.

Hi Wayne, I'm sorry we do not have instructions on removing the water filter housing. We will try to cover this in a future video.

Thank you for such a detailed video but I think it’s a shame they can get away with selling a defective ice maker I have changed it twice already.
Great video. I bought the ice maker this week from your company and had it installed in less then a half hour. Thanks for your help
Great job on the repair!
thank for make this video you help me so much
Thank you very much. The instructions are very straightforward and very helpful. God bless you
Happy that we could help!
It’s the freezer button and lighting button on my model. And then it beeps continuously for 20 minutes.
Thanks! This was the most useful video for ice maker repair that I have seen l!!
Great! We are happy we could help!

I'm 1.41 into the video and I am wowed!! You are awesome!
Thank you
Now back to the video, and all the other Samsung refrigerator fixes I need.v
Excellent video. Really helped with replacing the ice maker. I had to pry down a little on the ice maker with a flat blade screw driver to clear the latch on top before it would pull forward. I did all of the upgrades - sealant, y-clips, adjusted water inlet tubing insertion depth. Hoping this fixes the ice maker from freezing up once and for all!!!
Nice job! Let us know how it works for you.
Just wondering, did the fix hold? Just did all of mine, but have little faith it will hold…
How long will this ice maker last 3 or 4 months?
Mine has been working faithfully since 2011.
Hey Crew....NEVER USE A HAIR DRYER...this video is awesome. I purchased a Steamer from Amazon for $39.95...Best investment ever. Parts Dr. Keep up the Super detailed videos

What if nothing is freezing? Its just making too much ice
Nice, clear, straight forward video. Thanks.
My Samsung RF28JBEDBSG is making a noise behind the ice maker housing, sound like a fan, how can I eliminate that, I’m not using the ice maker and and is think is off! Can I unplug the ice maker just like in your video?
@@TheDgo7 Some people said their fan seized up. The cost to replace the back part of the ice maker is costly too, but that fan looks like a computer fan of sorts. I'm in the process of taking apart mine to get at that fan. Please message me back with questions or answers if you have them. Together we'll get through this nightmare.
@@walperstyle I unplugged the fan, like I said I’m not using the ice maker, the refrigerator is working ok! Good luck with yours!
I really appreciate the videos from Ryan. I had to remove and install an icemaker and his video provided the step by step process. Thank You Ryan.
We are glad you found the videos helpful!
Thx for your help man your video helped me. To remove my icemaker ,its a tuff job
We are glad you found it helpful!
A good presentation , approached in a logical , methodical and easy way.
Thank you!
Awesome! Let us know if it fixes the problem.
It has been over 6 hrs since I replaced the ice maker and it is making ice like a champ! The real test will be in a day or two to see if it freezing over.
Did replacing the ice maker resolve the frost/ice buildup problem?
It has. I didn't have to use any silicone for sealant. It was the old ice maker that was building up frost/ice.
The new one is working very well.
It has. No more frost/ice buildup and I didn't have to use any sealant around the box. I'm very happy with the replacement and life is good.
Thank you for all the money you have saved us.
Our pleasure!
Nice job replacing it yourself!
Thanks for this tutorial... Although my Samsung wouldn't turn off the way you instruct (and my manual said the same thing)... I was able to replay it within 10-15 minutes. Making new ice within a couple hours... Thanks!
Glad to hear that you have ice again!
Thanks for the helpful video. I ordered an ice maker and I look forward to using this video for replacing it. Update when I complete my repairs.
Great, thank you :)
Part the part from you guys and replacement was easy thanks to your instructions. Thank you!
Great!!! Thank you for the business!
Your tutorial was even better than Samsung. Gratitude
Great to hear! Thanks for sharing!
This video is awesome! It told me exactly what to do. I was able to swap out my ice maker in 15 minutes, 5 of which were the defrost cycle.
Awesome! Nice job!
Very helpful video! I was able to clean excessive ice buildup in the icebreaker which caused the ice maker to stop working!
Great to hear!
This video was very helpful. My model fridge was different so the button sequences were in different locations. But all in all, this video stepped me through the entire process.
Great to hear!
The best video in TH-cam 👍🏼😎
Thanks!
Awesome! We're glad you found it helpful!
Ordered the parts including the drip clips. I have the sealant (painting contractor) great video tutorial. FOLLOWING 🏆
Great! Let us know how it goes!
Nice job fixing it yourself!!
This video was perfect to help me defrost my ice maker! Thanks!
Great!!
Always good to use a steamer to get rid of any excess ice...great video
Thanks for the tip!
Knowledge is power. Excellent video. If I do need parts to solve my current issue, your my guy.
👍🏻
Doing this for a friend tmrw, let's see how it goes. I've watched this twice now, super easy she COULD do it herself but I don't mind - hey it gets me free beer as a thank you. :)
Awesome! You can't beat free beer 🙂
@@PartsDr update... Success! Even after a 14 min FD wait, there was a ton of ice at the base of the coil. I had issue getting the new one seated but my friend msgd me a lil bit ago and said it works! My new question tho, apparently they included a new PCM board and new water hose... The fact it works, is that board detrimental to it continuing to work well from this point on?
@@tbok75 what part number did you order?
@@PartsDr I'm not sure actually. She ordered it direct and they sent her two (said she's gonna give me the spare cuz I have the same, but the 4 door model) It's been working great tho she says.
Very nice demonstration with great camera views. Our ice maker was blocked with frozen water and wouldn't make ice. I had to chip away some ice to remove the tray. Called Samsung and there replacing it for free but I saved this video in case I need it for future reference.
Were you still under warranty when you called?
I was out of warranty but they knew there was a problem with the ice maker design so they sent me a new one for free. @@kevin_daluz
