Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, was welcomed by his family in Canberra, Australia, on the evening of June 26. Assange arrived at Canberra airport at 7:30 p.m. local time, disembarking from a private jet. He greeted the waiting media and embraced his wife, Stella and his father, John Shipton, before entering the terminal with his legal team. This marks the end of a lengthy saga during which Assange spent over five years in a British high-security jail and seven years in asylum at the Ecuadorean embassy in London, fighting extradition to Sweden on sexual assault allegations and to the United States on 18 criminal charges.
