Mind and Soul 20: Why are we calling our children "learners"?

One of the things that mesmerized Kenyans about CBC was the change in education vocabulary, such as the replacement of terms like students or pupils with the term "learners." But is "learners" a neutral term? This video explains the neoliberal geopolitics behind the promotion of the term in education.

I understand some of the technical details you presented even though I'm not an educationist, I am a polymath, or atleast I like to think of myself as one. But what's important is that we all have a common philosophical grounding of what education is. Great presentation! 😊

6:08 Now that you've pointed it out i noted when a lawyer says ' my pupil is joining us for the meeting' you have a rough idea of who's coming, why & what they are here for.However, I also thought of high school students when they said there was a fire involving learners

As an aside, would this also inform the decision to rebrand what used to be the Kenya Institute of Education, to the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development?

In fact now that I think about it, this re-branding is similar to the way the British + our black post-colonial politicians who took over government rebranded neocolonialism as 'independence'.
When an abuser or authoritarian system wants to continue with a set of oppressive laws and even introduce new ones, they go on a large scale rebranding campaign to attempt to fool people that what they're introducing is something different and/or better.
