I got the yellow 2 month ago put 1000 mile on it.not the fastest bike but handles well comfortably 80 miles to UK gallon. At 8.50 a gallon good commuter

My cb500f 2016 is my favorite bike. Even more than my street triple. Too bad they raised the seat height. That’s one of the reasons I like it. It fits perfectly and has better weight distribution than other bikes.
Thumbs up for this great review, thank you. I do not understand why they don't use anti-glare screens for the displays. You get them for laptops, tablets, PC screens, e-book readers, why not for bike didplays, which are used in bright sunlight half of the time?
I love the aluminium swing arm, upside down suspension and dual front brake discs that I don’t have in my 2015 model. I’m most excited about the 750 hornet that’s coming and variants .
Its a great bike as it is but the next update needs to see the bike lighter and perhaps up the capacity to 550cc keeping the power at 47bhp but more torque and also so it can meet euro 6 when it comes in
Forgot to add. I personally would not like to see the bike adopt the neo sports cafe look as i dont like those stubby exhausts. I have a 2018 cb650f which has that exhaust and it sounds great but looks bad. I like the look of this bike better
I like your thinking! The only downfall though, to see a drastic decrease in weight we're going to have to see them use other components that will then end up driving the price up so it's a double edged sword on that front. When the CB500F was first released, it was $5,499 and here we are with it coming in at $6,699 less than 10 years later. Granted they have upgraded a lot of parts, it's still no fun seeing prices continually increase but that's part of the game so-to-say with anything and everything so we can't really complain too much I guess lol! It's kinda sad to think about what our bikes are going to be like when Euro 15 emissions standards roll around but then again, they'll probably all be electric before we get that far lol!
@@michellewilson8845 I'm with you on that one, I don't care for the design on the CB650F / CB650R exhaust either. Some stubby exhausts can look good but I'm not a fan of most.
They won’t up the capacity as this bike qualifies for restricted learner bikes in countries like uk, New Zealand and Australia. They’ll sell less bikes if it has more horsepower than allowed for the learner market.
I can't believe they have kept the 15 tooth front sprocket ! One of the standard upgrades is to move to a 16 (which I have) or even a 17 tooth front sprocket. The standard bike just revs it nuts off and you spend all your time changing gear up and down at low speed. The other "No Expense" item they need to sort is the Achilles heel dripping water pump. Otherwise great bike !
new to wrenching on a motorcycle here so you can correct me if I am wrong... doesn't that put more strain on the drive-train as a whole? The engine is not very torque heavy and putting a larger front sprocket basically makes what little torque it has even more of a problem and the 15 tooth sprocket was meant as a way to.. well, make it less apparent or extend the life of said components. FYI: most wrenching I do is on bicycles so I am aware of what larger/smaller sprockets/gearings do, just curious as to why you might want to do that... I am also slightly larger so I have to be aware of how much torque I can apply to a drive-train if I want to get the max life out of something.
@@adam346 I have done this on my 2015 F and I would say that the 16 tooth front sprocket makes it less revy and not more strained. After all you just change up a bit later. If you want to follow this and every other discussion on the CB500's take a look at the threads on the Honda CB500 riders forum. If you live in an environment where you potter around at low speed then the standard gearing might be alright. If you are more of a dual carriageway or motorway (freeway) rider I think the larger front sprocket is the way to go.
@Classic Dufferin No idea its gridlock on the motorways in the south of the UK. If I took a blast at 3am the cameras would get me. 80mph and still pulling.
Oh yeah, it's definitely one of those love it or hate it designs for sure. While I wasn't a big fan at first of the new New Sports Cafe styling they went to when turning all of the other CB-F models into CB-R models, I'd like to see this bike make that transition too. A CB500R with the headlight and styling from the CB1000R / CB650R etc would do pretty well in sales and I think I actually prefer that naked bike styling nowadays over this "older" design.
Need : clasic without all that plastic/ and without that radiator/ and without that no storage flimsy arss fin for a back seat! ADD useable stuff... windshield/sissy high seat /rack behind /bigger mirrors / 375 cc - because 350 not enough highway and 500 bit more than need ! Stable ride - trash the 500 with wobble chit .. cum -on! make it affordable and daily rider style! make seat tuff- not soft and want last long- some those seats look like about to tear.. first ride.. i mean FK.. what u thinking!!! dont like abs- want basic- no fuel injection crap ! make them sooo upgradeable.. accessories.. !
The CB 500F is a truly spectacular motorcycle. I have a2014. The only thing I changed was the front sproket. 15 to a 16 tooth. And I added dirt bike handlebars. 32 inches wide. I might throw a windshield on it. It's perfect.
this platform is very enticing. with four bikes in its line and rumoured cl and not mentioned nx500, there's something for everyone. I quit smoking so I can pinch some extra pennies for my first bike. keep up the great content HPK
100%! Honda's definitely building an option for everyone around this 500 platform that's for sure and it makes you wonder... just how many bikes can be built off of it lol! Congrats on quitting man! Were you able to quit cold turkey? I started my journey of quitting at the start of the year and it hasn't been easy lol. I haven't had a cigarette since January but I did sadly end up buying a cheap vape to try and stop myself from going back but now I've got something else to try and quit to get rid of it all together. I still have an urge to buy a pack every now and then but for the most part those urges have almost disappeared. It's crazy how much $$ we burn in all of this when you really start to add it up, hopefully those pennies add up sooner than later so you can get your hands on your first bike ASAP! Appreciate the kind words too ;)
@@HondaProKevin Good for you buddy. I'm only on day 15, but I'm on the patch and have a supportive fam. Stay strong, and think of all the Honda's you could buy. Lol. My reasoning to them to get a bike is to replace one risk with a manageable one.
I'd like to see that shade of yellow in person, I don't believe we've ever gotten it in the states. It may be the same yellow American Honda calls "Pearl Yellow" on the 2022 Fury whereas that yellow on the CB500F is called "Pearl Dusk Yellow" but I'm not 100% sure on that. Do you like them keeping the tail and front fender black or would you prefer it all match?
The 2 things I'd like to see is a slightly larger front fender to protect the radiator better and some kind of sunshade over the display to help with glare. If I had Honda's ear for a minute I would recommend sharing a bit of the Grom styling treatment for the bigger bikes. That meaning make 1 basic bike for everyone and use easily swappable plastics (minus the goofy washers) to add color. Then let us get the full spectrum of colors they offer overseas through the service department if we're not happy with what's offered locally. The way Honda shits on the US market with the bikes is the same as with their car offerings.
Speaking of the display's glare, that's one of the most difficult things to film on these bikes lol! I had to pick up a CPL filter to try and remove some of it and it's still difficult if I don't find a spot with shade to film those sections. I like your thinking! That's one of the coolest party tricks to the new Grom is not only the ease of swapping out plastics for a different color but also the fact that you can pick up different styled plastics from a more adventure look, retro and so on with them all being OEM. Of course you have aftermarket options too but it's the first time in decades (to my memory) where you can buy different plastics from Honda to make your book look like an entirely different style of bike. That's definitely an idea I'd like to see Honda run with in the future!
With the dual disc brake up front I think it’s worth the $200 increase. I came off the z900rs to this. I can’t wait for it to come in early August for me. I want a smaller bike to commute on and this one just seems to be the best option for me.
What is it about the 500 that Honda doesn't change it to the Neo Sports version? They got rid of the old style 300, 650 and 1000, but why not they 500?
Have yellow cb500f 2023, love it a lot. Perfect for first bike, not slow and not to fast, light and easy to drive inside the sities. On highway can easily overtake cars, only problem with the windy weather, difficult to ride more the 90-100 km/h. Average rpm 5k. Price with extras including exhaust, GPS track, catches, wind shield, engine, tank and hand protection + some small updates was 8k euro in Portugal

This bike needs traction control as standard, as that would help make it a better value without increasing cost and also suit its demographic. Smaller Honda like CB350 and CB300F have traction as standard
lol glad to see someone else got a kick out of it ;) Some don't care for those little bits but that helps break up the tedious process of editing when I can try to crack myself up and hopefully, someone else cracks a smile at least.

Maybe I'm not fully understanding the question and please don't take this as me being rude but... If you're asking what the difference is between the CB500F and Hornet when it comes to design, wouldn't that be something you could tell just by looking at them? Now, if you asked what the difference is between them in general - it'd be easy to answer as there are a lot of differences to break down between their specs / features etc but "differences in design" is a little harder to explain in a comment if you get what I'm saying ;)

@@MRSketch09 Ahh, I gotcha. Now we're diving into more details as "design" could refer to a lot of different corners around the bike ;) The CB500F has a pretty basic LCD display whereas the Hornet has a TFT display that also brings in bluetooth connectivity too with Honda's Smartphone Voice Control system. Plus you've got more stuff to play with on the display thanks to the Hornet having an electronics package with adjustments for engine power, engine braking, HSTC and wheelie control. All of which the CB500F does not have. Long story short, the Hornet is lightyears ahead of the CB500F in pretty much every aspect lol but I hope that helps to answer your question bud.
It's been reported that GPH has reached 80GPH. Also, if I'm going to pay that much for a bike I want/demand a better choice of colors. A choice of two extras at no charge would be great, however, that ain't happening.
idk, you've got the sv650 for the same cost and for a few hundred more dollars you could get an mt07 or z650. It's that weird in-between where the price pushes you to either a smaller 3-400cc bike or a 650
Can't decide what to get. My budget is $7k, I'm a first time rider, heavy dude at 250 pounds 6'1. I love scrambler, cruisers and ADV, so my picks are the Rebel, CB500 F and X. KTM 390 DUKE ADV and the Husqvarna Svartpilen. I mostly will do highway commute and want a bike to keep for many years (I get attached to things)
I would go for the cb500f. The cb500x will be a bit more comfortable but not much and the windscreen will cause buffeting for taller riders. KTM and the Husky have questionable reliability

If we took out the A2 bound kids… No one in the right mind should even consider this bike. For pretty much the same money, one should’ve just bough sv650 and end of story’
Look up CB500F onboard with MotoRaw to see this bike being pushed. It's ability is well beyond most beginner-intermediate riders capabilities. Of course an SV650 is outright faster and maybe is better with a passenger but you need to just respect the limitations of the bike.

If we get the cl500 with a longer tradition seat and a round headlight that cb500r probably isn’t needed.

I’m sure it’s a reliable, well made bike…it’s a Honda after all…but that headlight just makes it look cheap and ugly. Or plain at best.

How much of an improvement is the new suspension compared to the conventional preload adjustable forks?
I wonder this. But no one seems to compare them directly for some reason. There actually isn't a lot of good detail on this bike I actually feel like the internet unfairly wrote this thing off.

What's different between the Hornet, that was released in the UK & the 500F Design wise?
Maybe I'm not fully understanding the question and please don't take this as me being rude but... If you're asking what the difference is between the CB500F and Hornet when it comes to design, wouldn't that be something you could tell just by looking at them? Now, if you asked what the difference is between them in general - it'd be easy to answer as there are a lot of differences to break down between their specs / features etc but "differences in design" is a little harder to explain in a comment if you get what I'm saying ;)
@@HondaProKevin Well I was reading or watching another youtube vid that alluded to the Hornets "dashboard" being better than the Honda CB500F dashboard..
Basically I asked my question, b/c I figured if anyone would be able to answer it really quickly & straight forward, it'd probably be yourself.

@@MRSketch09 Ahh, I gotcha. Now we're diving into more details as "design" could refer to a lot of different corners around the bike ;)
The CB500F has a pretty basic LCD display whereas the Hornet has a TFT display that also brings in bluetooth connectivity too with Honda's Smartphone Voice Control system. Plus you've got more stuff to play with on the display thanks to the Hornet having an electronics package with adjustments for engine power, engine braking, HSTC and wheelie control. All of which the CB500F does not have. Long story short, the Hornet is lightyears ahead of the CB500F in pretty much every aspect lol but I hope that helps to answer your question bud.
It's been reported that GPH has reached 80GPH. Also, if I'm going to pay that much for a bike I want/demand a better choice of colors. A choice of two extras at no charge would be great, however, that ain't happening.
idk, you've got the sv650 for the same cost and for a few hundred more dollars you could get an mt07 or z650. It's that weird in-between where the price pushes you to either a smaller 3-400cc bike or a 650

Can't decide what to get. My budget is $7k, I'm a first time rider, heavy dude at 250 pounds 6'1. I love scrambler, cruisers and ADV, so my picks are the Rebel, CB500 F and X. KTM 390 DUKE ADV and the Husqvarna Svartpilen. I mostly will do highway commute and want a bike to keep for many years (I get attached to things)
I would go for the cb500f. The cb500x will be a bit more comfortable but not much and the windscreen will cause buffeting for taller riders. KTM and the Husky have questionable reliability
A used shadow 750 might be good for you, a larger bike yes, but very comfortable and plenty of options for aftermarket parts. Good starter bike
@@owenoneill7644 I sat on one and just didn't feel a connection. Maybe because I dislike Chrome or too bulky for my taste....but I heard they have a carburetor?
@@davidzavala337 Not until 2014 did they start to make fuel injected shadows so yes most used ones in your price range would be carbureted

No one in the right mind should even consider this bike. For pretty much the same money, one should’ve just bough sv650 and end of story’
Look up CB500F onboard with MotoRaw to see this bike being pushed. It's ability is well beyond most beginner-intermediate riders capabilities. Of course an SV650 is outright faster and maybe is better with a passenger but you need to just respect the limitations of the bike.
Flat black sucks. Give me some color! The foot pegs look painful. I hope the after market has a fix for that. Other than that, I like it a lot.
