- FIRST LOOK: The Colorado FINALLY receives a redesign for Chevrolet. This truck competes with the Nissan Frontier, Ford Ranger, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline. On the outside you will find all new sheetmetal, 20in wheels, and LED headlights. On the inside there is a new infotainment system, digital gauge cluster, and materials. Under the hood is a 2.7L turbocharged inline-4 that is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Is the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado Z71 the BEST new midsize truck to buy?

That Colorado is one of their best truck designs yet.
I have always hated the Colorado. My dad bought one back when they first released and I hated the way it drove and wasn't a fan of the styling. The newer models are a little nicer, but kind of look like a toy. But this redesign looks incredible. Chevy nailed the styling. It looks alot like the Silverado, but just enough different to not be a copy. Chevy has been killing it with all of their interiors recently. They have an incredible looking infotainment and guage cluster. The infotainment on my 23 Blazer is great. It doesn't have the same updated look as the newest redesigns, but it just works. I have read so many complaints about freezing, slowness, random disconnects, etc from other brands. I haven't had a single hiccup in the 5 months I have had my Blazer. It is rock solid stable and quick. The backup camera is also great. I have never driven a vehicle that has as much precision when backing in.

Pricing has been out for 2 months for the new Colorado. I ordered a new z71 back in November. Already built just waiting to be shipped. FYI the Z71 is the 2nd highest trim just below the ZR2. The trail boss is based off the WT trim and a lot of options are not even available on the trail boss.
How long did it take to build after chevy "accepted" your order? I ordered a ZR2 through my dealer but they said chevy wont accept orders for the ZR2 till early April. They did warn me that shipping could take some time because of driver shortage.
It looks like you beat me to it. Z71 is a higher trim than trail boss
@@Garlander all trims other then ZR2 started production on 1/24. My truck was built that first week of production (last week of January). I’m waiting on shipping at this point. I’m in the Albany area of ny and my truck was the first one ordered and first one to arrive at my dealer. Pretty excited lol.
@@coop4274 yeah that's what I was saying I know the ZR2s are set to start production in April but I was just curious how long it took the factory to complete your Z71. Sounds like it was built faster than actually shipping it.
@@Garlander start to finish on most new cars or trucks is about 24 hours from start to finish on the assembly line.

I love the design. I wish they would bring back an SUV version on this platform for those of us who think the Tahoe is too big for our needs or won't fit in the garage, but prefer body on frame over FWD unibody.

I fell in love with the new Colorado and the Canyon at the State Fair of Texas auto show last year. The black mirror caps are cool. Love how the interior is designed the red stitching the instrument panel is clean and simple. I'd definitely consider this and the GMC Canyon over a Santa Cruz, Maverick, Ranger, even a Nissan Frontier and the Tacoma. Thank you Joe and Lori for bringing us this great content!👍👍

I priced out that exact Colorado yesterday online. Z71 Radiant Red Paint Tintcoat 4x4, almost all the options, upgraded motor. $46,855. Also priced out a 2023 Silverado RST crew cab 4x4 standard box, with most options. It was $65,505. The Colorado is looking pretty good. Nice video as always.
So 48k basically. That's not too bad a price.
Hey Joe, I'm really digging the direction that Chevy went in with the redesign. I do like it a tad more than the GMC Canyon believe it or not. I hope the media drive for both those trucks are coming soon Joe. We just has to see what card Toyota plays with the Tacoma.
The maverick and Santa Cruz aren’t comparable to this, this would be comparable to a Ranger

Love the Z71 design. Perfect suburban mixed use vehicle. Couldn't wait for the redesign to arrive as everything is delayed and uncertain these days. Bought a new Grand Cherokee as that has improved in similar ways and the interior is levels ahead of the last version. Thanks for the review!

New trucks are so freaken expensive now. Whether small or full size. If only the price was 10grand less per trim level. Just maybe I would be back in one. For now I'm happy with my suv getting 30mpg on the highway.

Certainly a market down here in New Zealand for this.
At the moment Fords Ranger is dominant and the Colorado Z71 would be a very welcome alternative.
Top of the line Rangers are around $70 to $80 thousand NZ dollars so pricing would have to be similar or better.

There's definitely a market for the Chevy Colorado down here in NZ. It'd be a hot seller and would give the new generation Ranger some true competition. Would be nice if GMSV brought this new generation Colorado over here. It would be a great, Cheaper alternative to the Current Silverado lineup we have. It makes so much sense for us to have this midsized truck!
If I ever did need a truck, I think this is the one I'd get. Always been an outside fan of the Colorado. This model looks great.

Hello folks. I'm looking to buy a new truck in fall of this year. This will be my first truck. I will be upgrading from a vw golf lol. Given my life style, I love camping and i don't mind long distance driving. I live in Northern Alberta Canada and we get pretty crazy winters out here. Without being biased, would you recommend a 2023 GMC Canyon AT4 (not atx4) or the 2023 Nissan Frontier Pro4x ? Which is more reliable and trusting?

This might be my next truck.im digging everything.im just curious as to the price.the last gen was meh,this is definitely a step up and in the right direction.the only edition which I think I know why they left it out was the multiple split tailgate from the Silverado.
What could be really cool is if they do a SS version with a small block v8 and RWD.
I prefer blue for my trucks but that red is great.

I’m really liking the change to the Colorado and Canyon, only thing I don’t like are the 20” wheels on a z71 trim. No off road package should have larger than a 17…in my opinion. Other than that, great looking truck and great video as always!
The 20" wheels are an option. Standard on the Z71 are 18" wheels

How did you fit in the drivers seat compared to a Tacoma, I’m 6’2” and Tacoma is a little uncomfortable for me
GM really seems to be stepping up their game. They currently have some of the best automotive designs out there. And in other hell has frozen news, they've been getting great reliability and quality ratings on JD Power and Consumer Reports lately.

I like the Chevy Colorado. What surprises me is GM couldn’t get as good of Gas Milage as the Ford Ranger.

So, Chevy has released the Owners Manual for the 2023 Colorado.
It has volume scroll knobs behind the wheel,
The LT with one of the Conv. PKG levels and ZR1 and up have the passive entry button on the door handle,
There is not more light control knob. It is not a shortcut on the infotainment screen, and the shortcut is always on the top left, pictured as a light bulb,
The high-beams for "flash to pass" are still on the left stalk.
If you're interested, I'd look into the manual for more details- if you're nerding out about it like myself. I ordered a LT optioned out. Can't wait for it to be built.

Last time I looked the z71 was still above the trail boss in price.
Yeah it is the second tier trim. 3rd for off-roading as it is lifted 1 inch over the LT & WT.
This Colorado is a major update from the previous model and is a greater smaller alternative to the Silverado for those who can't quite afford the sticker price. Please tell me you have an update regarding a Traverse remodel?! I'm tired of contemplating the telluride. I would love a Chevy in my driveway again.
Looks pretty good the compact maverick truck has more backspace still technically you could get one of those for your friends
Really starting to like the radiant red.. cant wait till my camaro arrives! Will be looking forward to when these Colorados start showing up at dealers... also really like the sand dune metallic!

@@ROYZARMY I noticed a new silverado at a dealer in radiant red albeit a bit dirty from a blizzard we just had. I'm still somewhat on the fence because it's just a few shades away from maroon in certain lights.. and that's just it, the shade and color change with EVERY SINGLE ANGLE on the vehicle lol
Either way, at least I know what it looks like in person now, in a full size truck at least

Ford and GMC aren't playing any games with these other automakers. I'm really impressed with this upgrade.

Definitely beautiful truck. I hope chev will offer 3.5L v6 hybrid engine. Turbo is unreliable when weather reach to -30degrees Celsius at my place.

@@RaitisRides personally I prefer the jeep gladiator Rubicon since it has the tops that can come off easily for at the beach and off-road trails.
The new colorado/canyon is bigger then the gladiator. The interior especially is very tight and small in the gladiator.

It's the same engine in all Colorado trim levels but they offer different tuning. The WT and LT get the base tuning so HP is around 260, the Trail Boss and ZR1 get the mid tier 300HP and the ZR2 and above gets slightly more HP.

I have been hearing about the pricing for these midsize trucks, they are pretty brutal and are touching Silverado Custom prices.
Best looking new truck hands down! Only 2 zonks ,the tires are to thin..need a little more meat on the tire…rims look great and need a V6
You can buy new tires and ford gets by just fine without a v6

Love the redesign. Chevy has been on a roll lately. They fixed alot of the outdated interiors. Now time will tell if they upgraded in reliability. Preliminary reports guess yes. But we'll see
I know it’s not In The same segment, but price point wise the Z71 might be close, ill probably get this over the new Pilot.
Knowing Honda dealers, they’re going to break my heart. They did the same thing when all I wanted to do was test drive the FK8 type R.
This is gonna be my next truck assuming it's possible to get one.
