For those who don’t know, gravity doesn’t show the same in the thickest of Afro hair. Unless it gets really large, Afro hair will “grow like a chia pet” indiscriminate of where on the head it grows
Omg I usually can NEVER sit through a tutorial video that’s long but this video was so engaging!! I appreciate the little simple explanations and tips you gave throughout the video. It was really encouraging and easy to follow. Thanks for breaking down hair in the most simplistic way!
Exactly
This isn’t long, it’s short. I mainly watch 25-30 min tutorials and sometimes I watch some that are 2-3 hrs long

Literally same
Same!!
Same 😣
this tutorial really made sense to me, thanks Sinix !
I did a few notes for myself for the sketching and theory part since I'm practicing this topic, if anyone interested
Hair is a graphic element !
-Graphic appeal
-playing with texture while searching for shapes
-overdetailling goes often messy
-Structure
-Hairlines
(placing the hair line + variations)
(Beard has its own hair line)
(Eyebrows follows the top eye socket)
(Hair has mass + volume, follows gravity)
(Lengh of the hair is important, shorter hair = less gravity, can be "wilder")
-Logic
-Gravity = flowy lines
-Consistent lengh (haircut that make sense)
-Common mistakes :
-no volume
-weird hairline
-getting too smol (!shapes!)
-big medium small all and every day (shape hierarchy)
-complexity vs simplicity, going mostly simple is fine
the tip about starting blonde hair off darker was a LIFE SAFER!!

I didn’t expect to hear that piece of advice for focusing on *reflection of light* more than shadows for darker skin tones but oh my god yes thank you, that thought process makes so much more sense and is so helpful!
Also I came here for hair and got some ideas for how to approach it now ty
yess im so glad he mentioned it! If you want to hear more about it, he has a video on skintones, light, dark and fantasy!
The hair shape at 12:49 literally made my heart skip a beat. Beautiful painting!
This is really helpful. I normally do really simple hair for a cute vibe, but I've recently adopted a more realistic style when colouring skin, and I'm really struggling with making the hair match the style. This has definitely helped.
aw hell yeah! was so excited to see this pop up in my feed, anatomy quick tips always gets me pumped to go out and paint something. I love the format
I gotta say Sinix, this is one of your best videos yet. Really helpful to see your process!
The concept of applying design fundamentals as well as the "start big, build details later" workflow has helped my art immensely. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for making excellent videos on these subjects.
This is ECACTLY what I needed my entire life!!
hey, just wanted to tell you that you are my biggest inspiration in the art community. I absolutely ADORE your style and your explanations are really on point. Please keep doing what you are doing, you are great!

Perfect, just as i was struggling with not making my hair look like a swamp of chicken scratching. Thanks Sinix, this is my most anticipated series on TH-cam :3
Random lengths and missing volume add a certain personality to a character so in some cases painting hair like that can be useful - in my opinion.
I love how you have the really realistic faces with cute little eyes. I’ve been working for that sort of style for a long time.
ur so helpful never stop this series
just drawing along a bit while listening and watching you draw and talk was a wonderful experience in itself. Made me feel a lot more loose in the way I approached hair not only with my shapes but also my brushstrokes. Had a lot of fun so thank you for this video! :)

The quality of this content is astounding. Thank you so much for this Sinix, and congrats again on 500k subs!
Ever since I started watching sinix I have had such a drive to do art it's incredible
I love drawing buzz cuts on my characters, but I could never transfer that to digital art. This helped me a lot! Thank you!
Awesome video Sinix.
To offer some criticism, I think it would be helpful to bring up information regarding the material spectrum (Highly reflective materials to Matte surfaces).
For example, in this video, it would have been great if you brought up how hair would relate to it. I personally would put hair into the more metallic range due to how it reacts to highlights.
Also, I believe hair styles hold different interior lines (separate to hair lines) that contribute to the anatomy of a hair style. I believe it is called the scalp line? Some people have a straight line running down the top of their head, while some have hair that fan out like a spiral from a central dot on their head. I am mighty confused when i comes to this topic of hair. Is there any experienced advice you could give me on this subject?
Thanks for reading if you did, love your videos and ideas!
Just… thank you. This is what I needed without even knowing it, I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm gonna watch every single of your videos, it's wonderful, thank you very much for sharing !

Such a good video as always! I love revisiting your anatomy fundamentals as a refresher and this is another wonderful addition to your great collection of knowledge.
I’d watch an hour of u drawing hair ur art is soooooo goooood
just loop bud
I am so grateful I came across your content! I am currently working on a traditional painting and I've put it to the side because painting the neck is a bit challenging as far as creating the shadows and light on the collar bones and not making the adam's apple too bold. I would love if you could do a video on the 'Anatomy of the Neck".
There's a video for necks too ( if you didn't knew till now )
For the natural curly patterns: there can be so much more textural details because there’s so much hair! I get simplifying but I mean the even the cornrows don’t even look like braids. It’s not just chunks of hair in different shapes. I mean I personally love drawing and painting black hair because I get lost in the details, similar to how you did with the little wisps and things on the straighter hair. No hate to this man, I just want to acknowledge that simplifying doesn’t mean you have to make ‘textured hair’ into a big ass blob all the time
Thanks for the comment. It's definitely a place I have plenty of room left to grow! Hopefully I can keep making progress on that.
@@sinixdesign I really like your style. You know what I would do, I’d watch a video of a bunch of people showing different black hairstyles. See what parts they emphasize, feminine and masculine alike. That could be an interesting tool to learn more about hair in general, even just scrolling through reels or TikToks of certain tags you could glean a lot of info 👩🏾🦱💅🏽
It's amazing how much "life" you can add with the hair it's amazing you are super talented and thank you for sharing your knowledge

Woo! The question I asked is answered! I spent some time recently going through TH-cam trying to find someone talking about shape appeal and the design elements of hair and had no luck. Most of them are 'How I paint hair' videos... which aren't always great. Thank you so much for making this!

Oh wow this IS AMAZING. It’s like magic- wow- thanks so much!!!
This video was so satisfying to watch....will definitely be following along with your videos and journey.
I do think a lot of what you said not to do has a time and place in various styles. For example thin hair is real and can look good with certain characters. There are also styles that ignore logic in order to lean to the more fantastical side, you can see this in many popular anime.
when you’re black so your hair looks like youre in zero gravity
Just very curly hair superpower ^^. Gravity? What's gravity? XD
