Glad I watched this before attempting - making a template piece will make the process much easier but I wouldn't have thought to do that without this video. Thanks for sharing.
Yours is the first method I was able to actually use successfully. Making a dummy door is the best way to know if your placement of the hinge will work. Many thanks.
Installed my first full-overlay hinges today and I found this very useful, expecially the small scrap with a hinge installed to use to locate the cabinet half of the hinge! I used a Kreg jig to drill the door side and the scrap to mark screw holes for the other.
Thank you so much for this video!!! If I hadn't found it I would still be pulling my hair out!! I was fitting non-Ikea hinges to an Ikea cabinet with with no instructions. In the hinge packet there was some simple instructions and a formula to work out where to drill the holes for the hinge, but absolutely nothing about where to attach the hinge mounts. Your mini door method worked a treat and saved me from losing my sh*t. Again. Thanks!!!
Getting ready to install concealed hinges for a door on a shop/tool cart I just built. Your video and method will prove extremely useful for this, thank you!! I also recently acquired the Kreg door mortising jig, so glad to see you use it too!
After doing and re-doing the cups, for a 3/4 plywood door, use the #3 setting on the Kreg jig, to drill out the cup holes, for Blum 71B355(0) full overlay hinge. I put the 0, in parentheses because on the hinge itself it’s marked without it. In the Blum catalog it’s listed with the 0.
Error warning, in the video they suggest getting an even spacing at the top and then screwing the hinges in. The guy then holds the template in place with his hand. that is not the way you maintain an even spacing. To maintain the exact spacing across a single cab or a 1000 cabs you use a spacer strip. If you want an 1/8" gap at the top of all your doors you s cut a 1/8"spacer strip and place it at the top of the template and press it to the top of the cab .If you have two or more doors in the cabinet you cut the spacer strip to run the entire width of the cabinet and keep it in place every time to use the template for drilling the hinge bases.
I liked his tips and demonstration but I was thinking the same thing. Why not at least throw some playing cards in there to ensure both sides will be even. Or better yet get a full length strip of wood that matches the desired gap and tape it on while drilling the wholes with the template?
Thanks for the video. Now I have to figure out how to make new drill holes for my pantree that has two doors joined together with bolts. Will a template work for that?
Thanks for showing me how to do that I got to go through the video one more time to find out who makes that jig you're talking about are cleaning about thanks for the video
Video is very useful. Please follow-up with a "How to adjust the door on Euro hinge" video. You mentioned the set screw, but a detailed, close-up is needed. The more I adjusted the screw the more lopsided my door hung.
ok got it now after watching a few times, *I have 14 doors to install and was wondering your advise on hinges to buy decobasics seem a good price point thank you
This is great! i was going to skip past your video based on the views, im glad i just went ahead and clicked on it, because this is easily the best way for, to do these. cheers!
Can you please tell me what is the minimum board width that those hinges can be fitted to? I’m going to be using half inch Mdf and will be looking to use those hinges. Was wondering how deep into the door you need to drill?
HI, appreciate if you can advise is installing the inside hinges position affected by the thickness of the door? if so, how to dothe adjustment. thanks
Can I use C1 to a 2 inches frame shared together by 2 doors so that the 2 doors on a 2 inches frame will share 2 doors and the fram wont be seen , is it possible ? thank you
Also bought the same Kreg hinge jig, a little disappointed, the hole it leaves is a little sloppy and not a snug fit. Just in case you all were wondering.
Watched a lot of videos on hinge installation but they all focused on the doors. I was trying to learn how to align the plates on the cabinet body. Your template trick is exactly what I needed. Now I know how to actually install the doors thank you!
I was thinking the same thing. You could even use one of your stiles prior to final assembly as your template if you do tongue and groove style cabinet doors. That's what I plan to do since my doors are going to be 15" wide x 48" tall. That would make it much easier to align the hardware for mounting.
When does the use of a third hinge come into play, as it relates to the door height? I’m sure weight and width are factored in. But I have some frameless cabinets that will have full overlay doors that are 18” wide, made of 3/4” thick CVG Fir plywood. Should I use three hinges?
Yeah that’s great but what we are interested in is how far from edge does the hole need to be to install the damn hinge , not “ just put hole here using jig “ lol
that information youll get from hinge tech sheet. every respectable manufacturer have this information in the documentation. usually its not fixed number but a range like 3-5mm
Great. I'm redoing my cabinets in the kitchen and want to replace the old style hinges with the new European style such as the one's you did. I may keep the old doors, just strip them and then spray them or I may get just new doors. I was looking at the new doors moments ago and I see that the company charges something like $5 per door for the hinges. Not much if it's only one. But I have about 60 doors to do so that's a little different. Anyway, this looks like fun. I made a note of the jig you used and I'm going to shop for that right now. Thanks again.
From your experience, is it advisable (justo save some time mounting and dismounting hinge cups) to have the dummy door with hinge cups, but to use one hinge cup and just switch hinge plates? Basically, you are using one hinge cup to align all hinge plates. Since the hinges are screwed in using a template, there shoudn't be much offset....what's your take on that?
Glad I watched this before attempting - making a template piece will make the process much easier but I wouldn't have thought to do that without this video. Thanks for sharing.

Oh wow the template idea just unlocked the whole process for me. Thank you.
That template changed my life as a DIYer.
I a relative noob and working with 3/4 ply. The so simple and obvious (or not) idea of a short temp door was a lifesaver! Thank you!
Thanks for this! Wouldn't have thought of using a template piece like that.. Will make my next project much easier!
Installed my first full-overlay hinges today and I found this very useful, expecially the small scrap with a hinge installed to use to locate the cabinet half of the hinge! I used a Kreg jig to drill the door side and the scrap to mark screw holes for the other.
Thanks for the video, i was puzzling how i could access to install with the actual door, and yes the template!!!! thanks so much.

Great video. Easy to follow, step by step. I am about to use these hinges for the first time so this was extremely helpful. Thanks for posting it.
Awesome video, thank you for making it. It confirmed my thought process of making a jig.
Thank you very much for hinges installation walk through, much appreciate
A lot of talking but this is the only video that actually helped me
Would never have thought of making a shallow template!!
Getting ready to install concealed hinges for a door on a shop/tool cart I just built. Your video and method will prove extremely useful for this, thank you!! I also recently acquired the Kreg door mortising jig, so glad to see you use it too!
Thanks bro made me understand a lot more from this video
Would be great to know about what furniture paint you use for a smooth hardie finish and what battery sprayer that is

Superb Video. Thanks George U.K.

liked the cabinet…got a video on making it?
Nice work, what colour is the nightstand please?
Thanks for the video. Now I have to figure out how to make new drill holes for my pantree that has two doors joined together with bolts. Will a template work for that?
Good job. Loved your video. I wished you explained how to measure distances more precisly and what to do if no temporary template is avaialble.
Thanks for showing me how to do that I got to go through the video one more time to find out who makes that jig you're talking about are cleaning about thanks for the video
The bedside table design looks amazing..would definitely love making one myself..thanks for sharing.
The template idea is awesome! Thank you!!
Great video and really helpful! How did you hide/remove the doors' knobs and leave it clean?
Great method good video straight to the point
Video is very useful. Please follow-up with a "How to adjust the door on Euro hinge" video. You mentioned the set screw, but a detailed, close-up is needed. The more I adjusted the screw the more lopsided my door hung.
Thank you bro awsome explanation really helped us alot
Thank you! I learned something.
Thank you very much! I am sure I can do this without messing up my project now!
ok got it now after watching a few times, *I have 14 doors to install and was wondering your advise on hinges to buy decobasics seem a good price point thank you
I have been scratching my head how to line up doors with cabinate box without struggling. this is truly amazing 👏
What hinges are these? Do you have a link?
That was a good video. Just a side question, what is the make of the paint gun which had a cameo in the video?
It looks like a cordless Graco gun. They are brilliant but cost a bit.
Very useful Video, Thanks a lot!!
Template is genius. I wasted so much time and effort trying to align the full door.
thanks for the tips and experiences
What kind of spray gun did you use?
Can the jig be used for inset hinges
very well done... exactly what I need. Thanks!
You make it look easy. Thanks for the tip and tutorial.
In other words I need to make a jig? Is there an existing jig that will help position the door so you can attach the cabinet portion of the hinge?
Great vid bro , cheers 🍻 👏 ✌️ 👍
Do you use your impact driver as a drill? Or do they just look similar?
He used both.
A driver as a driver and a drill as a drill.
This is great! i was going to skip past your video based on the views, im glad i just went ahead and clicked on it, because this is easily the best way for, to do these. cheers!

Thank you for this EXCELLENT TUTORIAL!! The template idea is really GREAT!
If you had two boxes side by side would the doors still open?
Will these work for 1.5" thick frame to 5/8 thick door?
hi do u have a video that explains how u do it on a curved door ?
HI, appreciate if you can advise is installing the inside hinges position affected by the thickness of the door? if so, how to dothe adjustment. thanks
Great video mate! Thank you!👍👍
love this! great idea!!💯👌🏻
Great idea!
Good video which fix my thought
Amazing jig. Why didn't I think of this. Gonna use this for sure.
Can I use C1 to a 2 inches frame shared together by 2 doors so that the 2 doors on a 2 inches frame will share 2 doors and the fram wont be seen , is it possible ? thank you
Great video. Really interested in your work bench as well. Have you done a build video for it?
Also bought the same Kreg hinge jig, a little disappointed, the hole it leaves is a little sloppy and not a snug fit. Just in case you all were wondering.
Needs to be clamped down, and steady hands with the drill
I hate consealed hinges, why did they re-invent the old fashioned hinge when it worked perfectly well?
Me too, now I’m able to realign all the out of whack doors around my house. 👍👍
thanks for the informational vid! Will these hinges be strong enough to hold a 24" x 80" door, if I purchase enough of them?
Thanks so much for the great video. A huge help. It made it way easier for my first time. 👍👍👍👍👍👍🤗🤗👍🤗👍👍
great video, simple, and to the point, congrats

I watched the full build yesterday! Glad you made a separate video just on this process!
Lots of good tips in here, I've done these style hinges before with the same Kreg jig and I was doing a few things the hard way!
Glad it helped
Tq sir.. For the tutorial.

how do you actually hang the door to the cabinet frame? i'm having a hard time "sliding" the hinge on the door to the hinge part on the frame
Thank you.. I just fixed my cabinet door. :)
well presented
Thank you! Got good tips!!!
Awesome Tutorial! Thank you!
Thank you very much bro
Very good video!!!
Exactly what I was looking for.
Right
What was the setting on the kreg jig? Was the offset 5 mm for those hinges? Thanks for the help
I need to know how to fix an existing hinge with a spare I have removed from another cupboard
Yeah that’s great but what we are interested in is how far from edge does the hole need to be to install the damn hinge , not “ just put hole here using jig “ lol
that information youll get from hinge tech sheet. every respectable manufacturer have this information in the documentation. usually its not fixed number but a range like 3-5mm
really good
Help! I have a cabinet and the door fell off and the hinge came apart. How do I connect the two pieces?
Nice but I don't have Kreg template. And I only have 1 cabinet to make.
NICE workflow!
So, how does one know how far the center of the mortise should be from the long (vertical) edge of the door? Especially without the Kreg jig?
Great. I'm redoing my cabinets in the kitchen and want to replace the old style hinges with the new European style such as the one's you did. Yeeyy! TYSM!
Gave up. I just wanted to know about the actual hinge and how to install it.
Thanks for this!
thanks for the template idea...
4:41 never mount the hinges' plates like that. There's plenty of reasons why you should avoid it by all means.
Genius!
Show a full style "overlay"
Isit ok to drill the hole with a three mm gap fron the edge of the door
Actually the setting on the jig is rather important to mention coz otherwise ppl will not get the full overlay position?
Hey bud, i have a 21 doors and theybare dif sizes
