How Much Horsepower Can a Mustang GT350 Make with E85 Flexfuel?

  • Ethanol, or E85, has taken the tuning community by storm with its ability to make big power while still remaining cheap. Many turbocharged platforms have adopted E85 because of the big power increase it can make, but what about naturally aspirated cars? I was curious how much more power my Ford Mustang GT350 could make with nothing more than a software tune. In this episode, we find out.

I drive the car hard, check and change oil frequently... loose 1/2-2/3 a quart of oil every 1000 miles... ford says its normal but I’m not convinced. No tune for that reason alone. When you're evaluating both, having a GT350 in comparison to a adding parts of a GT350 and other after market parts, to the GT, if you can afford one, buy the GT350.

    • @JustinAEgan

      Somehow...I 'seriously' think you are mistaken!... From the factory, when Ford installed and tuned the "Bullitt" - using the GT350 intake (as a substitute for the current GT intake manifold and air filter) - they increased the power rating from 460 hp on the GT engine to 480 hp on the Bullitt. Seems like Ford stands behind the power making prowess of the GT350 intake and tune being an improvement ...over and above the factory GT production setup.
      Why would Ford exaggerate the benefits of the Bullitt configuration, especially since its so easy to get proof? - Have you done any "real word" empirical testing? ... pull up to the next stock 2019 Bullitt you see, with a stock 2019 GT - then come back ad let us know the results? Should be - interesting...?
      The GT350 level 3 PP sourced kit on a 2015 - 2017 GT PP 1, installed properly, is not a joke - why would it not give similar gains on 2018-2019 - especially when it comes from the factory properly tuned....using a Gen 3 Coyote as foundation short-block - instead of a incrementally improved Coyote Gen 2? ..... something ain't Kosher?

I spent the summer last year driving around the cities and found 1 pump that was at E83. (used a tester) Of course it was on the other side of the cities from where I live. Moral of the story, never get an E85 only tune...get 2 maps or a flex tune.

    Great video I was hoping someone with a GT350 would make one, so my question is what would be the difference between going to a shop & getting like a LUND RACING device, besides the obvious putting the car on the dyno...

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The difference between a truly custom tune and what most people refer to as an "off the shelf" (OTS) tune like the Lund is just that, the custom tune is tailored towards your exact engine. OTS tunes are generally more conservative because they have to account for a wide variety of variances between engines and environments. There is no guarantee how a OTS tune will behave on your vehicle. I'm sure the Lund tune makes more power than stock, but it won't be optimal. Think of buying new pants, you could get some one sized fits all from the store, or you can get a pair custom tailored. I have no problem with OTS tunes, but only through applying custom software and testing/tweaking it on the dyno will you get optimal results.

    • @matrix4you2see
      @matrix4you2see 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So technically you could do an egauge with a flex tune, fill up E85 on almost empty, flash the car with E85 tune only & dyno the car & there you have it LIKE dyno tuning... I’m I correct for saying this..? Please correct if I’m wrong... thanks

      When the engine is cold it does take longer to start. The higher the % of ethanol the longer it takes, though we're still only talking about 4-5 seconds, after which it runs fine. Much more of an issue in the winter. This is the reason that many parts of the country reduce ethanol percentage during the cold months. If the start delay bothers you you can simply dilute the e85 with more premium. I've found that with anything less than e50 the engine starts normally. And when you consider e50 is around 100-101 octane you're still gaining 95% of the benefit. I've had the Lund flex tune for 2 1/2 years and it has been 100% flawless.

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What you saw in the video is an all stock GT350 with just a flash tune to compensate for E85. A custom tune like this will make as much, if not usually more, power than any of the 'kits' online.

    • @65sohc
      @65sohc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      By "kit" I take it you're talking about the ones that use a flex fuel sensor and auxiliary fuel computer. You unplug the injector wiring and insert the kit-supplied wiring between the injectors and the factory wiring. The computer then intercepts the signal from the ecu and adjusts fuel delivery. I imagine those work. The big difference is there is no tune involved. As you saw in the video the tune alone on 93 was worth 20 hp. There is no way e85 alone will match e85 plus tune.

With drivetrain loss 446hp is over 510hp at the crank, so the 480hp rating for the Bullitt is underrated by ford. I suspect because that’s too close to the GT350’s rating. All numbers are weather corrected. My tuner said either E85 or headers would make 500hp at the wheels, but I’m happy already. th-cam.com/video/rnSGUv02drY/w-d-xo.html
