finally someone who is a minimalist, but also tries to stay realistic... THANK YOU! also, you´re really funny - had to subscribe almost immediately :) Best wishes from Germany and a merry christmas season to you and your family :)
After starting my decluttering journey, decorating for Christmas was much more relaxing. I have a beautiful tree (but with many, well placed ornaments) with simple decor around the main room (open concept) which keeps my house feel Christmasy, but serene. The best advice which I have never done was to remove the current decor. By the day after Christmas, I was overwhelmed. With this simplicity, yet beautiful decor, I may just make to the the Epiphany before I take it down!! Thank you for your awesome advice!!!
Our tree is a crazy mishmash of colored lights, home made ornaments, novelty ornaments (Mario, Owlette etc.), beautiful Swarovski crystal ornaments. It's a big mess...but I absolutely love it and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Great tips! Actually love the idea of sticking with one colour theme. Since it will be in the middle of Summer here when Christmas comes, white and green with a little bit of red sounds like a great idea. And putting the usual ornaments away is something I love doing.
Love the video the pep talk I needed. Also that one tip is excellent take the decor that’s there and just put it away ,and then put the Christmas decor there. Normally you always see people adding, and maybe taking 1 piece away. My favorite movie is Elf! Don’t know if I have a worst..🤔
Elf is the best! I also reallllllly love National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, The Grinch, Love Actually...I could go on for a while!! Thanks for watching Michelle!! Great seeing you here again!
Yes!! Thanks Eva! It is SUCH a great change to make. I used to just fill up the room, but it ended up making me STRESSED! I think you'll love it! Thanks for watching
@@MinimalistHome I decorated our family room today but first put away (and dusted LOL) the existing decor. It’s so refreshing to see only Christmas decor! What a concept! I’m going to do the living room tomorrow 😁🙌
I really like your advice about removing your usual decorative items before putting up the Christmas ones. I just moved abroad last year, and this is my first Christmas in my new home (and an unexpected one, as I was planning/hoping to visit my family for the holidays, as usual, up to a few weeks ago), so I have so few Christmas decor items, that I don’t currently feel the need to follow this advice, but I definitely will in future years as my Christmas decor expands. Funny enough though, my parents already have this practice of putting away all the decor items before putting up Christmas decor, but this is because they have so much Christmas crap that they wouldn’t have space for it all if they didn’t make extra room in the house for it. They are hoarders and unfortunately my mother has an nasty habit of collecting Christmas items. Going to their house for the holiday is like entering a Christmas ornament shop. I miss it a bit now because I have so few festive items in my home, but usually I found it so overwhelming. Anyways, thanks for the video!
Oh, yes. It is so easy to hoard Christmas decor! It is so lovely, but with too much, it's hard to see. I'm sorry you are away from your family this year, but hopefully you have a great and peaceful Christmas nonetheless!
My problem is what to do with my house plants that just don't go with my winter decorations. I live in a one bedroom apartment so there is no other place to put them. Uggg I hate Christmas decorating. 🎄
I sent this link to my husband - he's not happy til it looks like The Christmas Tree Shop has exploded on the inside and he's competing with Chevy Chase on the outside. I'm way more minimal. Good news is he does 90%. Bad news he wants it up from Halloween to Easter.
Yes! I want to declutyer everything that has glitter and send all the extras to charity shops in October so they can have it to sell it by Thanksgiving.
I have a 3ft and 6ft imitation tree, which to put up. Hard for me each year because my mother passed on Christmas Day 1998. I am in a bungalow so space and height are a problem. Yes, I am getting rid of some items, have a keep area too but would sell.
Aw, sorry about your mum Nancy. Yes, Christmas can churn up memories for sure, especially when someone passes on Christmas Day. Good luck with your decorating Nancy!
Just found you via Twitter (thanks for following me back) and great video. My Christmas decorations went up a couple of weeks ago as kids & myself needed a boost. Love Christmas movies!
I'm Vancouver WA.! I visited Victoria once and had the BEST time with my daughter! Tea at the Empress of course and the Butchart Gardens! I love seeing other people also trying to Simplify their Christmas decor as well as their homes
My favorite Christmas movie is Home Alone. My favorite Christmas song is Oh Holy Night for the religious ones, and All I Want for Christmas is You for the secular ones. I hate all of the ones by pop stars who put out Christmas albums (except Mariah, obvs).

Thanks so much for keeping this video up! It’s one of my favorite Christmas videos on TH-cam and I get motivated & inspired by it every year! 🤗❤️❄️🎄
You’re welcome! Thanks for the support! 🎄✨

Thank you so much. Looking to have a much calmer Christmas, plus it gets more and more expensive every year. So this was very helpful.

Love the simplicity and your nativity set! Where did you get it?
Hey Carmen, it’s called Willow Tree
We have a pop up tree. I hate to put up, dress and take down a tree. So 5 minutes with a pre decorated and lit tree is fabulous!
There ya go! Perfect!
Love the idea of ‘not adding to our place’ and instead replacing it with Christmas decor. 👍👍
Less clutter feels better. I’m going to do this!

I love Paul Mcartney 🤣 love the switching out of pieces, not just adding! Thanks for the tips😊
I do love some of his stuff, but that song...don't get me started!! Glad you're watching Jen!! Thanks!
I love Paul too; but that song is repetitive and not up to his usual standards.

I wish I could see it too!!! Soon, I hope! I guess it would be after Christmas though

Ugh! ME TOO!!
Worst Christmas song? “Santa baby” 😖🤮
Ok, we totally agree Crystin!
Last Christmas is the worst Christmas song ever😖
