Here in Switzerland we have tree nurseries that deliver the tree in a pot and come and pick it up again. During the year they take care of the tree and the next Christmas they deliver it again to you for the holidays and so forth. If the tree becomes to large for your living room, you can switch it out for a smaller one. The trees get planted in the forest when they retire from being a Christmas tree. Now you could argue the cost of driving it back and forth. I would wager that it is still the most sustainable option available.
@@Woeschhuesli You would have to try the phone book for your local / regional tree nursery or Gärtnerei. Not all of them do it, but there are quite a few.
I made the ornaments from the toilet paper and paper towel holders. They came out great. So simple and a great way to use something that you would just throw out in the trash. Thank you.
As far as trees go, we bought a fake one 27 years ago. (I live in Austria.) I never thought it would last this long! It doesn’t look too good when you take it out of the box and every year I think that it’ll be the last year for it, but once it’s decorated, I am always amazed at how great it looks! The “needles” have a paper texture to them. (Not plastic) When I was a child we always had a real tree and I loved the smell but I just can’t justify cutting a tree down for a few weeks. I love Alex Baer’s description of what they do in Switzerland!
Last Christmas I decided we definitely needed to simplify & downsize our decorations & gifts! It takes the stress out of Christmas for me and I can focus on spending time with the ones I love 💕
A few years ago I made these paper ornaments for our tree and we love them so much I am back this year because we want a few more. My husband said we should make one for an event we are attending where we have to take an ornament for the tree. No tree can have just one of these so I'm taking a few. I use cardstock instead of paper and they store well from year to year. I don't know which is more sustainable for trees, but we choose to cut down our own fresh tree each year. It never disappoints and is a favorite activity of ours. Thank you for such simple and beautiful ideas!
My sister clips some branches from her yard. She spray paints them white and adds some spray glitter. She decorates it like a Christmas tree and it always looks beautiful.
Thankyou from UK. Your home looks so cosy especially with the sleeping cat in the chair. We have a Christmas tree with roots and in the summertime there are lots of tiny cones on it. We plant it out in the garden after Christmas and then dig it up when we need it again.
This is all so beautiful and relaxing. My husband just brought home an advent candle for me from Denmark and I am so excited to find the perfect spot for it.
Go to IKEA they sell real Christmas tree's for about 15€ and once the holidays are over u can take the tree back and they will replant it and u get a gift card for the price of the tree!!!!

Very relaxing to watch! The city I live in (in Canada) takes the used Christmas trees to create mulch for the gardens around the city. I personally have used both real and fake trees. When you think of having to ship a plastic tree from China then eventually throw it out (they aren't made to last forever), I prefer to support a local grower and buy a real tree which can be reused as firewood or mulch
After getting rid of some Christmas ornaments that we no longer liked, we have been feeling a little discontent with our tree this year. My husband will love the ornaments you made - just what our tree needs. Thank you!!!! After reading Alex Baer's comment, I would love to live in Switzerland for Christmas!!! We cut our tree down every year because we love the real thing.

I've recently discovered your channel, and have watched this Christmas video for the first time. Now I am yearning for Christmas to come again quickly! I am just in de-cluttering phase 1, as all of our children (I have three boys and my husband has three of his own) are grown and out of the house. My husband is half Swedish, and lives by the less-is-more mantra, but I've come from a more fill every surface and wall with things I love world. I am, though, enjoying deciding which things I love the most, and having less to clean around. It's beginning to become addicting-to see 'what else' I can live without. The biggest challenge, now, is seeing all of the beautiful Scandinavian decor and and wanting to buy some before I'm ready. Must purge before I can then indulge. Love your style, funny comments and quips, and simple wardrobe philosophy. You've got me thinking, and becoming more and more excited about simplifying the number of choices, decisions, and 'extra' wasted minutes I could be using for more enjoyment and peace. I'm looking forward to retiring in a year or two, and would love to be where you are now-after what will be 38 years of teaching, I am drooling at the prospect of a relaxing, stress free lifestyle. I'm steadily working through all of your videos. Thank you.
Your video is so beautiful! I love the way you celebrate this special season. I look forward to your wonderful vlogs. Much happiness to you and your son. 🎄🥰
I love everything about this video! We decorate for the holidays with paper decor, too! And brown craft paper is my favorite gift wrap. I’ve had fake and real trees. Right now I have a fake one we have used for almost 10 years. It’s a small pre-lit tabletop one and I think I got it at a thrift shop. We use the same decorations on it so for ten years it has definitely been worth it.
People tend to forget white as a great Christmas color. White lights, white candles, white paper decorations, white flowers. Very elegant. And peaceful. Move over red and green! I also like that you don't put up a lot of words as decoration. I used to like the large calligraphy words like Peace, Love, Hope. But they catch my eye too much and I can't help reading them multiple times per day. So now I focus on just one word for a while, and take them down completely most of the time. The items are the symbols now. I like how you are aware of protecting your eyes from becoming over-stimulated. If I want to be dazzled by Christmas decorations I go to a Christmas store and soak it all in for a while. And maybe buy just one item a year to swap out something I am tired of.
I love your beautiful, simple and serene Christmas decor Benita - it makes me miss a northern hemisphere Christmas! It’s never quite the same when it’s summertime at Christmas like it is here in New Zealand.
I love your Christmas decor, so peaceful and beautiful. As a native Floridian, I cannot imagine having only 5.5 hours of daylight on the winter solstice...we have nearly twice that much.
Of all the minimalist videos I follow, yours are not only my favorite, but where I feel a bit home. Certainly this has to do with that my mothers family come from right between Kongsvinger and Torsby. And especially during this season, and also with watching your way of Christmas decorating, I miss mom, bestefar and mormor. Thank for sharing 💖
I assumed the pine in the window is your Christmas tree. 😊 I have a potted young cedar that I will plant out to the yard in the spring. Otherwise I’ve been trying to perfect the Moravian paper star. It’s a hard one.
One of my favorite channels! I’m loving all of your content here from the states. As a relatively new minimalist, I’m still trying to find my style. Thanks for the inspiration!
I bought my Christmas tree eleven years ago and I see myself use it for decades to come. So I think it is a sustainable option. By the time I dispose of it (when I die?) they will be better at deconstructing and recycling combined materials (plastic and metal)
I remember putting cloves into oranges with my Grandma, something she learned from her father who was born in Sweden. My fingertips hurt when I was through but they smelled so nice!
Hi Benita. Your little Christmas tree looks very much like a Norfolk Island pine. My family had one of these for a potted Christmas tree during my childhood. It was as close to a proper Tannenbaum that we could get at that time in tropical Queensland, Australia. Every year my father would bring it in and we would make a mad mess of decorating it. After Christmas, he would carry it back out to its spot in the back yard where it would happily wait to be the centre of attention again. When it grew too tall, he planted it, but even after, it was always known as 'the Christmas tree'. A happy and safe Christmas season to you and all. ❤️
Having a live tree and planting it outside is the best option. If you don’t have land, give it to someone who does. Also for wrapping you can use fabric that you recycle by buying thrift shop tea towels or table cloths, and make reusable fabric wraps, or bags.
I cut a small dead branch from a camellia tree and spray painted it white. Put it in a tin container full of the small stones used in aquariums. We keep it in the corner of the room as a decoration in its own right and add the Christmas decorations every December.
Beautiful - I enjoyed this video and the ideas you shared! 🎄 Those paper stars are one of my favorites. I never had seen them until our visit to Stockholm in 2017. We were there the first part of January and noticed many of the holiday decorations - all the stars in windows lit up was very pretty. ❤
@@BenitaLarsson Yes! I enjoyed that about our visit. As soon as it would start getting dark all the pretty lights would appear in the windows - I loved it!

I wish I could keep a live tree all year around but in the inner city if Stockholm it’s not going to work unfortunately. I will go for a real one though!🌲Happy you enjoyed the video!
Hey, maybe your building you live in would let the residents take their potted trees to the roof top during the rest of the year. It’d create a garden, or add to it, and help the oxygen production! Take care and hope you have a white Christmas. 🎄 Flock that tree!
All plain and simple. Very easy on the eyes he mind. Oh and happy belated birthday wishes to you. X 🎂🎁🍷. And all the very best wishes for Christmas ☃️🌲 too. X
There’s a lot to be said for your minimalism at Christmas. It take me days to decorate and days to put it all away, but I am just not a minimalist. I like lots of decor and color and sparkle. I do love your videos though and enjoy seeing your lifestyle. Merry Christmas!
I'm so in love with everything presented in your video! So simple, but so beautiful! The orange and cloves trick I've learned from a Swedish friend of mine years ago. It was such a great discovery!
With the tree, I think you have to know how long you're going to have it up. I have mine up from black Friday(I don't shop that day) till just after new years. That is a long time to keep a real tree alive. I saw another TH-camr say she was going to get a wood one.
In the past I've had it up a couple of weeks at the most but this year I'd like to put it up Advent 1st and take it down just before New Years. The only tree that would last that long is an Abies Fir which I'm not that into. That's why I'm thinking a great quality fake tree that I'll keep for at least a decade. I'm so torn. Last year I ended up with no tree because of the same conundrum.
I always loved a fresh tree put up the first week in December, but hated trying to keep it alive and all the falling needles. One year I reluctantly bought a very expensive fake on sale at a great price three days before Christmas and I have never gone back! It always looks beautiful and is so easy! Now I buy a wreath each year for that good evergreen pine smell. Best of both worlds!
I like to use newspaper to wrap gifts! I think it is a sustainable and funny way to do it :) Once, I used a foulard (a silk scarf) to wrap a gift for my mum too, so she received a double gift ;)
Tipsy from takes😂 Those candles in the window are gorgeous. Beautiful and simple decor that is fairly easy to store ( thinking paper items) The tray of treats look amazing. Thanks for sharing
My Farmor would make those paper decorations with myself & my brother when we were young, along with paper baskets that were woven from strips of paper that you put sweet inside to hang on the tree. Lovely video, puss puss! 💜
I love your channel. I came here when I need to calm down and relax. But I never comment and I finally subscribed. I have been on my own personal journey of downsizing for years now. From a house to an apto. Becoming a minimalist is a journey and it does takes time. Thank you for sharing. :)
Dine in Denmark just mentioned in her video today, that it takes 55 live trees to equal one artificial one. In Denmark, after the holidays, they collect them and make mulch out of them, which you can pick up for free....wonderful! I now have a small fake tree which I plan to keep forever and I don't have to make a special trip to go out and buy....so maybe that's good too!
I so agree with not too much xmas stuff i do alittle tree and a few xmas nick nacks used to have a bit more but donated the extras and i love it with less
Also you could place all the supplies for this project in an attractive tray for festive gatherings for something your guests to do. The guests can take home the project or put on the tree. Step 1. 2 3

Hey, maybe your building you live in would let the residents take their potted trees to the roof top during the rest of the year. It’d create a garden, or add to it, and help the oxygen production! Take care and hope you have a white Christmas. 🎄 Flock that tree!
Anthony Trevino Great ideas!🌲👌🏻
Also, maybe try using biodegradable paper tape instead of regular plastic tape.
Very pleasant to watch a very relaxing in this busy season! Beautiful!❤️
I'm so happy you think so!
All plain and simple. Very easy on the eyes he mind. Oh and happy belated birthday wishes to you. X 🎂🎁🍷. And all the very best wishes for Christmas ☃️🌲 too. X
Beautiful! I love your minimalist ideas. Have a wonderful holiday. Thanks for sharing. 💕
Thank you so much! Wishing you the same!
I loved your video! I learned some wonderful things. And, yes...get a tree. 🌲
There’s a lot to be said for your minimalism at Christmas. It take me days to decorate and days to put it all away, but I am just not a minimalist. I like lots of decor and color and sparkle. I do love your videos though and enjoy seeing your lifestyle. Merry Christmas!
We're all different and that's great!
I'm so in love with everything presented in your video! So simple, but so beautiful! The orange and cloves trick I've learned from a Swedish friend of mine years ago. It was such a great discovery!
I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed it!
Such a great idea!
Tipsy from takes😂
Those candles in the window are gorgeous. Beautiful and simple decor that is fairly easy to store ( thinking paper items) The tray of treats look amazing. Thanks for sharing
Yup, sure was :) Thanks so much for watching!
I love them, too. Where are they from?

@@BenitaLarsson Thanks, great videos 😊 God Jul!
My Farmor would make those paper decorations with myself & my brother when we were young, along with paper baskets that were woven from strips of paper that you put sweet inside to hang on the tree. Lovely video, puss puss! 💜
The heart shaped paper baskets? I can never remember how to make them. Must to look up a tutorial! Thanks for reminding me!
I love your channel. I came here when I need to calm down and relax. But I never comment and I finally subscribed. I have been on my own personal journey of downsizing for years now. From a house to an apto. Becoming a minimalist is a journey and it does takes time. Thank you for sharing. :)
Thank you so much for subscribing and best of luck with your journey!
Super peaceful
I love your videos and overall vibe of your lifestyle. You are an inspiration for a more simple and purposeful life for me. Thank you!

A charming video Benita. Enjoyed
it very much and also very relaxing. Kindest greetings

I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
They do collect the trees here in Stockholm too! Not sure about the mulch though.
Very nice, I especially like the candelabra you showed towards the end , the one with the many candles. tfs Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
It’s a bit of a splurge from elflugan.se but I intend to have it forever!
I so agree with not too much xmas stuff i do alittle tree and a few xmas nick nacks used to have a bit more but donated the extras and i love it with less
Ive been following you since your blogging days and you never disappoint. Love your style!!
Thanks so much for following along all these years!
Hello there is a nice paper tree from room in a box or room in the Box…..you can use it every year again
Also you could place all the supplies for this project in an attractive tray for festive gatherings for something your guests to do. The guests can take home the project or put on the tree. Step 1. 2 3
Such a great idea!

Hi there,
I'm new to ur channel.
I recently realized how much I love minimalistic lifestyle.. It's such a peace of mind to have declutterd space.
I'm so in love with ur channel.
And this minimalistic christmas decor is one of the best decorations that I've seen so far which is soo much peaceful & soothing.
White is must for every minimalist when it comes to home decor.
Though I love to play with different colors to make a statement.
Like adding a little bit of red somewhere because it's Cristmas.
But u nailed it. ❤
Lady, you are goals! My favorite channel. I love your space.
Aww, you’re so sweet!
