This video has a bit of everything. What's been going on in my life, I address the Jack Stand Gate from the last video and I show you my "quick fix" from holidays when I noticed my diff pinion seal leaking.

i had the same issue in my sixty series...rear diff pinon seal leaking..fixed the seal..after a few months later diff centre locked up leaving me stranded on the road...worn. centre bearing caused the leak had to put reconditioned centre in..no trouble since ...fifteen years...later old sixty still going strong....great effort Danie working on your 75 series only way to learn everything about your 4x4 cheers jamie .

Slow but has been such incredible support from the community that it's all moving along. Yeah I'm not home alot so it's good to work together!
Little tip for speedi sleeves for you all. If the groove in the shaft is excessively deep then you may need to throw some devcon or other similar metal putty around the groove before the speedi goes on. If you dont do this you can have an air gap under the sleeve (right where the seal lip runs) and it will overheat, fail and tears the seal. Used this trick many times on industrial gearboxes (fixed plant stuff not automotive/transportation) and never had one leak or fail prematurely.
I’ve got 2 79 Series and just replace my pinion seal. But I enjoyed watching you and your father. Would love to run into one and have a beer. Keep it up

I like the shirt and the reasons for it, us men do bottle things up so true, I will be getting me one, well nice job, this time cant fault it for home repairs and also adding some more tools to your kit.
You are right about no axle stands, on the trail it would be the wheel/tyre under the axle, or a big rock or tree stump.

That speedy seal was awesome, you maybe just saved me alot of money. I´m about to do the exact same job and i have no idea what the flange looks like, but i would most likey bought a new one haden´t i watched this video first. Thank you, and yes, lucky dad.

Hope you and the Fam are OK after the flooding. It was shocking to see so much water and damage from my little safe spot on the Sunny Coast. I invested in a small magnetized nut/bolt/washer tray. Keeps the metal fasteners from hiding in the grass or dirt. Or, if one gets clumsy with their feet, hands, or elbows, the nuts, bolts, and washers don’t go flying. Pretty easy to make too.

Thank you for taking the time to video this. I enjoyed it alot. Unfortunately don't know much about cars in general or 4wds. My brother took me 4wd driving over in WA and it was amazing. We did alot of sand dunes and beaches. I got to drive along a fine and loved it. Now trying to learn more. Both driving, mechanical and general information. Love camping too.

Best thing about the speedi sleve is that it puts a touch of extra pretension on the seal.
Best way on the rear preload on the cruser is to pull the axles as you wont get any drag.

Really good video, oh so easy to do in a workshop with a two post lift but great to see it done "bush mechanic" style.
On a note about diff breathers, the diffs can actually create a negative pressure when going through water which will actual create a suction, hence water in the diffs.
Not a hard job to extend them.

Terrain tamer do a solid spacer and shim set for the pinion, no need to set preload etc, very easy to install, youll be able to do it with the tools you've used here.
The bangy way is more fun love it haha

Yeah the collapsible spacer setup on lighter duty stuff is a bit shit ay? Larger final drives use shims, much easier to set and removes the guesswork. Nice job! Hope you shouted the old man a 🍻
Not to pick apart your work as you're doing it and not paying a shop big money to do it for you and your obviously learning as you go(which many do not feel the need to go through the process as it's easier to pay someone else to do it) Here are some tips from my personal experience dealing with axles and seal surfaces.....this was due to failures in my workmanship and caused me to do the job twice! Plus since this is a quick fix you did if it starts leaking again you have something to look for.
If using a speedy sleeve us a little bit of loctite or equivalent thread locker on the machined surface that the speedy sleeve is being installed onto, this will do two major things.
1. It will ensure the sleeve never moves or slides out of place when things heat up(quality of speedy sleeves aren't that great so inherently some will be larger than others) Some axle manufactures put thread locker on the axle carrier bearing caps when installing the carrier to ensure you don't spin the bearing race....same concept here
2. It will keep gear oil from seeping under the sleeve and making it look like the new seal it leaking. Same thing for front and rear main seals, crank case pressure with engine vibration will literally move the sleeve and push oil under it. Don't have to use red high strength just something to fill the gap and "glue" it in place.
It's a good idea to put some rtv/silicone/sealant on the splines of the driveshaft flange to keep the oil from seeping past making it appear the seal is leaking, don't use a lot as you will fight this the next time you remove the flange.
Always remember.....if it works its not stupid, it's just another way of doing it!

looks good.. and a perfect Job.. dont forget to Chance the diff oil at the interval... and the air tube must everytime free and if you make this longer and very high on your landcruiser you do them a good life... water or mud in oil isnt good in the diff

Great video. Nice to see a young person having a go. The only thing I might add on the use of speedy sleeves is to use some locktite under them. It helps slip them on and reduce the chance of damage and it also glues them in place. Which can stop oil leaking between the shaft and the sleeve and stops the sleeve from moving due to expansion,or the fit to the shaft.

Buy a knuckle bar to undo stuff, generally longer than a ratchet and no gears to strip.
Loctite under the speed sleeve is a good idea.
Doing up the nut, yep you wont get anywhere near the manual stated torque as the crush sleeve has already started to collapse which was why the nut was easy to get off. The full job can now be conveniently put off until next time it leaks catastrophicly as there's always something more fun to do.
One day you'll actually be able to do repairs at home, where all your tools, flat ground and friends network are. One day.
I'm impressed that you are small enough to work on the diff from above, there are times I wish I could do that.
So what are you breaking next?

Howdie Mate, you can feel the bearing friction with you hand with the wheels off the ground, the bearing preload is normally set with a shim or the crush sleeve. 😎
Yes it is set with a crush spacer. Since I wasn't replacing it. I wasn't too concerned with setting the preload. But the correct way is to use a torque meter

This isnt a tutorial. Lots of key steps left out and to finish the axles come out, diff out, spacer replaced and bearing backlash and preloaded reset. Not doing this step will eventually lead to diff failure
