    Thanks for the help, I just replaced my gasket using this video.
    Tip: if you take the wheels off, it's actually really easy to line up the bolts on the backing plate, and you don't need a friend's help. As you slide the axle in, the splines on it will make contact with the diff about 3/8" before the bolts go into the ends of the diff housing. So after the axle splines mate with the diff, you can still spin the backing plate into position to mate up the bolts with their holes.

    Just a quick question when dropping the tail shaft , can you you just bolt it up again ? Or does it have to line back up the way it come off.

    2:40. No your breather isn't blocked. It's a one-way valve. When you block the filler plug it creates a vacuum. So of course no air can enter the breather. Think about it.

    I'm going to try and do this on my Hiace, I thought I had to take the propeller shaft out but this video shows that it's way easier than that. I reckon I've got no gear oil left inside mine. I watched a crazy russian guy run an old sedan dry with one wheel blocked and one off the ground and it took a beating before it welded itself together. Hopefully not too much damage inside. Thanks for the video

    Good video. Would be helpful for some people to show you putting the driveshaft back on to the diff.

    On the 2016 hilux the breather is closed by a tiny spring and a rubber disc, so mostly closed.

  • @RippSnortin
    @RippSnortin ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The breather closes under suction, and opens to relieve pressure.

    Cheers for this Trev, I've been thinkin of opening my diff to inspect and replace oil cos I went through a few water holes (no breathers)

    • @TRAV30387
      @TRAV30387  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries you can drop the oil that should be enough flush it a fuew times

    • @ReinventingTheSteve
      @ReinventingTheSteve ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TRAV30387 yeah true, might just flush it out... reckon i could use diesel to flush? then fill with cheap oil, do a couple hundred Km's then empty and fill with good oil? also is your diff LSD from factory? mine is a 2002 kzn165r sr5, doesnt matter for flushing but just wondering and if yours is lsd what do you think of its locking ability? i have mechanical front lokka and am considering locking the rear aswell

    • @TRAV30387
      @TRAV30387  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey yer mines an lsd id just fill it with oil and do repeat flushes till its clean have you had water go inside the diff?

    • @ReinventingTheSteve
      @ReinventingTheSteve ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TRAV30387 havent checked yet but i reckon, fresh/muddy deep puddles up to the sidesteps, maybe a touch over, no diff wine or issues but considering checking n flushing just to be safe
