Podcasts in general have become so worthless also, everyone just sits around talking instead of actually editing and curating.. now it's made so other people can sit alone at work, in the car, or at home and pretend they aren't alone.

Hutch, my late husband used to tell me that nothing about the war (OIF) made sense. He did two tours. The things you say remind me of the things he used to tell me. The questions you ask are questions that tortured him. There’s nothing beautiful about war.
It’s odd bc your dark humor has me here grinning. It’s the sort of humor that only comes from those who have seen the truth of war and it reminds me of my soldier who is dead, and remembering him is good. It makes me smile and cry all at once and so I had to comment and hope that you will see this.
He couldn’t find a place on this earth to rest his soul after seeing the things he saw at war and doing the things he had to do. And so he travelled on to other worlds in search of a place to rest his soul.
Thank you for sharing your story. In case you need to hear it, never give up.

I just rewatched both of his vids yesterday after Jack's. He's one of a kind. Listening to his stories has an added bonus for me, as my brother served two tours in Afghanistan and Iraq (he joined the USMC in 1999). He was infantry and went on to work with interpreters for Intel. We don't talk about any of this. He's told me a few things that gave me nightmares. We were so close before his deployments. He came back so changed. He stayed in for a full 16 years.
Thankfully my brother is still here today and he's a great dad and husband and I'm so proud of him. But I do miss the person he was.
Listening to Hutch is healing and I'm grateful he's here to talk and I'm here listening. If you get a chance to see this, thank you Hutch.

I've bingewatched all of hutch's interviews. I'm so moved. I have never seen war, i live in the safe comfort of my country, the Netherlands. But i do know, in my own small way, what living with trauma is. And indirectly i've also been impacted by the sheer unnaturalness and generational trauma of war because the people who raised me survived the second world war. This beautiful man is such an example for all of us, of how we can uphold ourselves in this dualistic world. Where there is so much trauma and violence and so much beauty and compassion at the same time. I'm so moved by his ability to take the lessons he learned in war, and the love and connection and leadership he experienced from his from his commanders and peers to heart, while at the same time, renouncing the war and violence and hate that he's been both victim and perpertrator of alltogether and committing his life in service to love. To be able to hold that dualism, and be whole, is pure courage. Courage literally means by the power of the heart. This man is THE example of courage. And if he of all people can do it, we should all be able to do it. It gives me some hope amidst these times where the story and all the sided narratives of war such as isreal palestine just haunt me. Nothing is natural about it indeed. Let's look upon the issues of war with courage, with our hearts that just ache and feel the atrocities only, without being misled to fall in the trap of reasons and causes and all the why's. There is reason, and cause for war, plenty, but there is no excuse. Ever. It is never a solution. Opening our hearts is. Proceding with courage is. Feeling all the feelings is. Accepting there can never be any ultimate benefit, to whatever cause, in killing anyone. It's so easy for me from the sidelines to see this, how everyone is just caught up in all the 'causes' and in the meantime horror happens. But this man, who has lived it, and turned it around, it is so powerful. Thank you hutch. You are an inspiration.

Mark, I absolutely 💯 ♥ love this channel. The fact that you take many to where they couldn't imagine being or ones that haven't lived the lives all that you interview. You need to receive A fkn medal, and WAY MORE RECOGNITION! All I can say is that with the many you interview, reminds me as to how truly fortunate that I've turned my life around as being a former addict.
Sending all of my love, respect, and light on you! You're doing an amazing service. Bringing people to your page and talk about what they're experiencing and in them knowing some cares, someone willing to listen which is thought provoking to all you interview without a doubt.
