Widow of a Viet Nam Vet with severe PTSD, and ultimately lost to Agent Orange cancer, this interview with Rob profoundly speaks for many Veterans of later "theatres" of war, Bravo for this soldier for being able to speak of it, and finding solace in music. RESPECT!!
My father in law was a Vietnam vet and died of the same cancer. Everything he did was with dignity and respect. He lived that way and passed that way. I know that was incredibly difficult for you and I'm sorry for your loss.
I’m a retired therapist and people with PTSD need to get connected with a therapist experienced in trauma informed therapy. It really works. It’s the latest treatment and I’ve worked with vets my entire career, not exclusively but in acute suicidal states and I wish this treatment was available 30 years ago. Even 10 years ago.
The comments are incredible! The love and support is tremendous! I appreciate Mark for giving me the opportunity to share my story and my music. It makes me feel good that my music can help people! Thank you for everyone that commented! It's awesome! Mark is one special guy to hear these stories!
Thank you for sharing your story. Nothing good comes from war. Both sides lose loved-ones….for what? People in power don’t agree with who the other people worship?!! It doesn’t make anyone right or wrong, it just makes them different. As long as a person’s beliefs don’t harm anyone, what difference does it REALLY make?! If a person’s beliefs get them through a difficult time, or brings them comfort and joy….that’s what matters. There’s enough room on this planet for everyone. I saw a show one time where the host would invite people from opposing countries to break bread together. There was some tense moments, with acceptance….all things are possible. Sharing a meal, or your home, is the kindest thing you can do for other living beings. Im still hopeful….😢
Thank you Mark for facilitating the interview so we had the chance to hear Robert play on a grand piano. There’s definitely a story to be heard in his music as well! Well done!
I wish there was something I could say that would bring some healing to you and every person suffering with PTSD which would make a difference. Thank you and all military personnel is thank you for your service. I’m sorry it came at such a high cost, greater than we can imagine. I appreciate your openness. Thank you for sharing your source of peace with us. Keep on being you. Don’t down yourself for the hard times. Love and a hug from this Michigan grandma ❤❤❤
Moved to tears...hearing his heartbreaking story of his time in the service, and then to see and hear this beautiful music flow from his soul...amazing. That, to me, is like the Gods healing hands flowing through him, giving him the peace he needs. Thanks for your service ❤
I don't have the words, I'm so inspired and grateful for this man's testimony and the sacrifice he and all the other men and women have made to protect our freedom. Shalom

Great interview, Mark. Combat veterans do not get the recognition that they deserve for everything they've been through. Was I the only one who felt like I was chopping onions while he played the piano? It was beautiful! 🩷
Absolutely beautiful, I could listen to him all day. I really was interested in his story and happy that he has found a way to live. Rob, thank you for sharing it all, you are a beautiful soul.
I'm 47, I have CPTSD, Panic Disorder, and Agoraphobia. Thank you so very much Rob, I just downloaded every song you have. I seriously have not been moved by music in what feels like a decade or more. You brought me to tears and for the first time in 20 years I actually felt calm, and my mind actually stopped that record on repeat thing it does. Thank you , thank you so very much. I'm going to try and figure out how I can actually purchase your songs now. I have Prime music so it doesn't give me the option to purchase since I pay the monthly fee, but I'm not sure if that get you anything so I'll buy it elsewhere ❤❤
Thank you Mark for bringing us Rob! It is so refreshing to have an uplifting story… first in a while. I must admit, I’ve had to look away from SWU lately to preserve my own mental health. With current events around the world, the strength, healing, struggles, and positivity Rob shows us here brings hope. After all, what do we have left if we don’t have hope? I am looking for his beautiful music to not only hear more for myself but to help support him in his strive for stability. Best wishes to you, Rob. Many thanks to you, Mark. Peace and love for everyone. We all need more peace and love. ☮️
Rob, I am ever grateful for you choosing to come on Mark's channel. This morning I woke up w not good feelings from family problems and not feeling loved kind of a thing and I heard you play and I keep repeating this over and over and it has soothed my worries. My faith in God and mankind in me awakened turning my not so good feelings into a beautiful day ❤
Thank you to SWU for bringing this inspiring content. Thank you Rob for sharing your moving story and your beautiful music. Thank you so much for your service. ❤
Lost my father in 2002 then a good friend a few months later, graduated High School in 2003 and joined the Army Infantry. Did 4 deployments total(2 Iraq, 2 Afghanistan), sudden loss and trauma was nothing new but losing friends in War changes you in ways people will never understand unless they lived it. Quit drinking 4 years ago, solid support system from my wife and son, counseling and working full time has saved my life. Take care brother.
The price we pay for US imperialism is an ocean of blood, the least we could do is help these soldiers reclaim normal life if possible once they leave the service.
Sucks that he still struggling with his addiction. As a recovering drug addict i can definitely relate. Seems like such a great dude and i have nothing but respect for him and i would like to thank him for serving our great country. Thank you sir! Beautiful music.
Thank you Rob for your Service! Thank you also for sharing such beauty through your music. Lovely piece you played. My husband is a Therapist with the VA and treats men and women with PTSD. I watch him everyday work tirelessly to give his all to those he serves. He also makes time for continuing education to learn new therapeutic strategies to help his Vets heal. God bless all Service Men & Women for their willingness to stand up and be there.
I understand the necessity of retiring from the police force after what you've been through but how could you afford it at such a young age? The piano playing was beautiful as are you and really seems to convey the depth of emotion under the surface . I am very appreciative of your ultimate sacrifice and others like you ❤
I had to go on medical retirement at age 43 (neurological issues plus PTSD) all from trauma unfortunately or fortunately, the government is taking care of me:( agree it's not the best care but it is what it is. Some states are better than others, fortunately I live in Colorado (Denver) we get pretty good care
I'm finding that having PTSD for 17 years now. When I see someone else who has it, I see it in them. Thank you for your interview Rob and I wish you all the luck in finding ways to process and heal.
What a great story and message from Rob. For some reason, I did not think he was going to be a great pianist, but boy did you prove me wrong! Great music and great purpose. Bravo

Rob, your song told a story to me, extraordinary talent.Keep on keepin' on, keep your head above water. America needs you! Truly thank you for your service 🇺🇸 ( my Dad was a Marine and played piano at the VA too ) ✌️
Robert, thank you for you service and your sacrifice. Listening to you was like listening to my son who served in Afghanistan and Iraq at the same time as you. He suffers with PTSD but got involved with Combat Recovery Reboot and I’m convinced that saved him from becoming one of the 22. Hearing you talk about how difficult it was to make decisions when you returned is exactly what he experienced. AND, he’s 48 too! Sounds like you live in TN…so does he. May the Lord bless you and keep you!
Fantastic interview. Would love to see more videos on those who have served in military, policing, border patrol, paramedics, etc. PTSD is absolutely real, absolute respect to those who serve civilians. TY for your service, and opening up. 🇺🇸💙
Oustanding and inspiring interview, Mark. Accountability, purpose, motivation, having direction, and surrounding yourself with good people. Great lessons from this interview that are valuable for anyone who wants to improve their life. Why do we make the good and bad choices we do in life? These factors. Holding people accountable is important. Having a creative outlet (music, art) brings people together, but also heals the soul. That piano song at the end melted me, made me ball my eyes out after hearing his story.
Thank you Rob for your law enforcement and military service, sharing your story, and playing the piano to make music. Thank you Mark for interviewing Rob.
Being despised and betrayed by leadership is one of the main causes of ptsd. When he said ‘they don’t care’ is felt that. I wasn’t in combat. Just a civilian paramedic and I got it. But I know what it feels like that management is on it for themselves and dont care.
Many probably won't understand this and I hope this isn't perceived as disrespectful, but I can't possibly imagine another career to be more proud to say your friend or family is a part of but literally nothing I'd rather my son's do less then be in the service.
Mark id love, from a fellow combat veteran see more of your interviews with our men and women who served. Each of their stories are different but they help us, others to better understand and deal with our own mental health struggles.
Such a touching interview! When he started to play the piano instant tears. I love that he uses it for his own healing as well as helping other veterans ❤
Thank you for sharing your story with us Rob. I can't relate with everything you said, but there were some that really hit me. Keep fighting the good fight brother.
People you call “terrorists” were defending their country because you were unwanted guests on their land, which is exactly what you would have done if anyone sent troops to your country. You went to Iraq with the ruse of existing WMD and you found absolutely nothing. The war resulted in nothing but the death of millions of innocent people and left the country in complete chaos.
Exactly and then people say thank you for your service! I understand people back in the Vietnam war didn't have a choice, and that's awful. Nowadays all armies do is invade others for oil, and land grabs.
🎹 ❤🔥👍 What a great story Rob. Thank you sharing it and thank you for your service and the sacrifice to your mental health. Keep up the great work with your music. I know since a child that music had saved my mental health and helped me to calm my anxiety. You play beautifully!
