      The Fallout show had one of the Brotherhood characters say "We used to rule the wasteland." As if most of the time we haven't seen them basically live in a bunker and be a minor faction that's going to die out eventually. Bethesda just loves making them the center of attention because they're are out of ideas for making anything good and interesting.

      @@Theo-hh1zo what's annoying is they weren't a major faction post fallout 1. in fallout 2, van buren and the original new vegas they were just a minor faction.
      i can excuse the enclave propping up everywhere in the us because they are united states government, so them having multiple facilities makes the most sense compared to the brotherhood, who were just an extremely small group of soldiers that became a cult. the elder in the show is a complete liar or a zealot given the brotherhood of steel was so small and pathetic, that the unity itself would have had no issue destroying them and that's not even a debate. Tim Cain himself said if the master won in fallout 1, the enclave would've decimated them with no issues while the brotherhood was infiltrated with unity cultists.

      @@jack_The_ComicFan63 Exactly the future of this series is looking so bleak it ain't even funny. Bethesda changes the lore and setting so often filling it with their own garbage. Vaults 31,32, 33, and 4 in the show should've already been cracked open by the Master and his army considering they were literally by his hideout. The show wanted to retcon Fallout 1,2, and New Vegas all because the original creators of Fallout made better games than them. Todd Howard is literally doing damage control and lying about "threading the needle" with the lore when one of their writers said that we weren't beholden to what someone made twenty years ago.

      It is actually getting ridiculous. The brotherhood is stronger than ever before and it’s getting really tiresome. In Fallout 2 they were actually more humble probably since they were getting their asses kicked by the Enclave. They worked together with the NCR to destroy them and even had a base in their capital.

      The Brotherhood of Steel is about Collecting and preserving technology, and they do exactly that. Wastelanders are short sighted and not particularly intelligent. What do think will happen if they get there hands on a piece of rare technology? They'll probably strip it for parts or use it till it breaks. Now lets assume every wastelander does this, all of a sudden, a piece of technology no longer exists. It has been completely wiped off the face of the earth, because a selfish wastelander didnt know better. Now when the brotherhood of steel gets a hold of technology, they reverse engineer it and find out how to create more of it. The make blueprints so that particular piece of technology that could be very useful to people in a civilized society, will not disappear. That's one of the main issues, they hoard only military technology. Sure enough some of them are worth keeping from the general population due to lack of education and outright ignorance, like giving a caveman a nuke. But since the NCR became more than just a small village and the Followers having expanded, that goal becomes less and less relevant because people know better. But they failed to evolve with the times, rather than take a less aggressive role and preach about the dangers of high-tech weapons, they hoard them still and kill anyone who would carry them, in fact, they constantly harass anybody that holds anything as small as a laser pistol, and if you refuse, well your caravan's going to end up as more ashes for the wastes.

      The Browning M2 .50 cal heavy machinegun was designed in 1933, so it definitely exists in the Fallout universe.

The miniguns in the games fire at like 10% the rate of fire of real miniguns and have underpowered damage for game balance. A minigun usually fires 7.62x51, which had around 3,000 J of kinetic energy.

      Sir Mount And you judge their performance solely on reviews? Metacritic's accuracy is questionable. It should be community consensus at this point that the reviewers at Metacritic aren't exactly thinking straight. New Vegas had the best writing, there were no non sequiturs or stupid holes in the plot or lore, unlike Fo3 or Fo4.
      Fo4 outsold Vegas because the former was intended for the greatest common denominator of the community and it had a great superficial charm. When you look closer at the lore and plot of Fo4 you realize how nonsensical and choiceless it is. Vegas had choices and factions which you could understand. Fo4 had plenty illusions of choice that ultimately led to the exact same outcome, and a sincere lack of common sense in many factions. Imagine. You leading the Minutemen and building hundreds of settlements armed to the teeth with nigh-nuclear weapons and Automatrons and somehow they still have people kidnapped by drab Raiders with pipe pistols. Imagine. You expand the Minutemen into a vast organization who has retaken the Castle and avenged Quincy... and your troops still have pipe pistols and laser muskets as their weapons. Your settlements can't even properly defend themselves without your personal intervention even when given more weapons of mass destruction than SADDAM HUSSEIN! Yeah, makes no sense.

      In Fallout 4 they're just as cliche, but this time they're copying Mechanicus from Warhammer 40k, down to "techno-heresy" nonsense.
      It's pretty obvious that different Fallouts were written by different people. In Black Isle/Obsidian Fallouts, BoS went from being an ideology-heavy group that thought themselves superior to everyone else in Fallout 1 to getting their asses kicked by Enclave and losing some relevance in Fallout 2, to never really recovering from that since a new power - NCR arose about the same time and BoS no longer had the biggest stick around, even after Enclave got blown up. BoS position in the world was kind of dependent on their superior weapons, but after getting big enough NCR didn't have to deal with BoS default claim to any tech they think should be in their hands.

    No one seems to have commented on how cleverly this is written. House, in his hubris, cant see that hes also describing himself: he too is a technofetishist who's only interested in tech that makes him more powerful.
    He makes fun of the brotherhood for pretending to be knights before saying, without a hint of irony, "anyways, this is an employer-employee relationship." House is also pretending to be a member of a long defunct social hierarchy -- a capitalist in midcentury america -- and is no less deluded than the brotherhood.

All whilst personally holding the reigns of course. It's a strong future, maybe a bit too authoritarian, but as far as Fallout goes that's okay.
      The Brotherhood however wouldn't trust anyone outside their group with a really shiny spoon. It's their unwillingness to actually use their technology to help people that is their biggest failing when compared to House. As Veronica puts it "Waiting in a hole for everyone else to die" They offer no real future for themselves or the people of the wasteland.

    I am with Mr. House on this one and not just this one. I rolled all the paths several times. Well Legion just once to see if they have any sort of redeeming value and they dont, those people make me sick. No better than fiends really. Mr. House FTW.
    Back to the Brotherhood of Steel. It is understandable that after Fallout 3 people would sympathise with BOS but lets not forget that Lyons chapter of BOS in D.C. is not exactly a good example how the true BOS really is.
    Remember there was an outcast faction in D.C.? Well those were not really outcasts actually those so called outcasts were BOS members who remained true to their ideology of hoarding pre-war technology (mostly military tech) and keeping it out of everyone else's hands while killing as much primitive tribals as possible in the process.
    But Lyons was a nice idealistic guy with a good heart so he ended up wanting to help people wich resulted in tensions within the D.C. chapter and eventually led to the creation of the outcast faction who left Lyons and continued on their own in their original mission of hoarding advanced pre-war tech and weapons while ignoring or killing non BOS people. For more accurate depiction see the BOS from Fallout 1 and 2.
    When you first meet up with Mojave chapter of BOS they are not very nice to our courier either unless he or she has Veronica with them plus Mojave BOS most likely decided not to kill the courier just because they were in a tight spot and needed all the help they could get.
    Is BOS bad? I dont think so. Or at least not outright evil, for the most part. Perhaps misguided. We get to know them a bit and learn they are just as human as anyone else in this wasteland but there is a but like with just about every other faction. They are too reclusive aggressive and too obsessed with hoarding pre-war tech and keeping it to themselves.
    Lyons in D.C. might have been white knighting but to be honest that man had the right idea. BOS has the power and resources to an extent to somewhat help improve humanity's current fucked up situation yet they choose not to.
    Despite the fact that in doing so they would also help themselves. BOS is good at making enemies but not friends. Worth mentioning is that isolationism will only take you so far. A small strictly extremely enclosed comunity like that will either die out or inbreed and go degenerate. Or get killed off as they can not replenish lost manpower, at least not fast enough unlike NCR through recruiting and consription or Mr. House by well, building more robots.
    Not to mention with people outside getting stronger and organised large factions or nations like NCR are formed which can easily roflstomp the BOS by sheer numbers alone. As Veronica is rightly concerned BOS must change if its people want to survive.
    The fear of humans using tech to destroy themselves again which was held by BOS founders after the great war was perhaps justified but on the other hand wouldn't educating people about the past mistakes and dangers of pre-war tech while helping in rebuilding a new brighter, okay maybe not so brighter as we have enough radiation as is but a safer world be a better objective?
    That sayd, the destruction of BOS is not the most fortunate outcome as it means a loss of capable people. Humanity needs not only all the technology and knowledge it can muster but also capable people in order to survive, rebuild and eventually thrive.
    I use the word capable with reserves though as apparently the BOS Paladins were killed by threats that were no match for a random passing by mail man.
    Now I dont say they must all hold hands and sing Kumbaya, that's reserved for General Oliver. But they should at least come together, see the bigger picture and do what needs to be done to rebuild what was foolishly destroyed.
    The most optimal outcome imo would be if by some miracle we could get Mr. House, NCR and BOS to work together in rebuilding mankind. Of course NCR would need to clean up their corruption and greed. BOS would need to let go of the old useless mantra and Mr. House well, to accept them for what they are.
    I am sure if progress and better future was the objective of all then Mr. House would come around. He sayd that himself. All I care about is progress. However since that is not possible to achieve without modding the main quest the next best choice for long term prosperity of mankind is Mr. House.
    While the NCR is not a bad faction per se, it has issues and I doubt they could achieve what Mr. House can.
    NCR can offer relative freedom and safety. Really, like Nipton burned by Legion, NCRCF over run by criminals, all the dead caravans by the road side, fiends all around New Vegas, Freeside full of thugs, Legion spy at McCarran, Deathclaws in the Quarry, with Lee Oliver singing Kumbaya, ranger chief Hanlon high on crack seeing Super Mutant Legionnaires and Khan trained Deathclaws floating around all the while people are butchered and enslaved by the baldy Caesar. Where is a Brutus when you need one? Oh, wait that has to be me too. Great job NCR I already feel free and safe, only I am wearing power armor holding a big ass gun with plenty of ammo in my pockets doing your job for you cleaning this mob infested hellhole.
    And the poor troops at McCarran still can't stop pooping because all they have is canned beans and totally broken down kitchen equipment because I cant be at fifty places at once fixing literally everything while being chased by retarded Legion Assassins who are dead set on being killed by this one specific courier in the name of baldy Caesar.
    That reminds me I also need to look in to the water issue at that farm. I wonder, if I follow the big ass pipes from wich the water flows maybe I can find something. I bet the troops on site haven't thought of that instead just complained blaming the farmers working their asses of there to be simply lazy.
    In other news a package courier found shot in the head near Goodsprings made a full recovery, butchered the Great Khans, ass raped Benny boy in his own casino and after marching in to the fort like Hugo Boss killed the baldy Caesar.
    Our courier then walked in to Nelson and annihilated the huge Legion army there. All the 6 or so dudes and finally broke the complicated stalemate between NCR and Legion while on a routine delivery of a postcard to a resident of Nelson.
    The resident was also found shot in the head but unlike the courier he did not make a full recovery. At present it is yet unknown whether the courier shot the resident. Hopefully the investigation of NCIS Mr. Grissom and his team will soon yield results.
    Boy that must be one hell of a bad ass courier though. I wonder if he is related to John Statham. This was Mr. Pre-war Vegas covering for Mr. New Vegas.
    Good lord is everybody in that joint a fucking idiot?
    NCR should be renamed to The New Courier Republic since it seem it takes a random mailman to take care of all the military, logistical, scientific and political business.
    And you can have all this with a two headed bear flag on top at the cost of corrupt officials and taxes with some long term progress in science perhaps. Yeah, because we totally need those plant zombies from Vault 22 everywhere Dr. Hildern.
    But I digress. NCRs ambition is mostly to annex land and hoard up resources. They lack other drive beyond greed. With no larger ambition or visions it will be just that, day in day out. In a none changing post apocalyptic wasteland with no major development.
    With Mr. House on the other hand. The man pursues progress, he has ambitions and means to achieve them. He can bring safety, prosperity and rebuild mankinds lost glory. His intelect and knowledge are invaluable. Anyone who killed him is a fool in my opinion.
    As for the alternatives? What alternatives? Various raider groups? Deathclaws? The fucked up Legion? Powder Gangers? Radscorpions? Followers of the Apocalypse who cant even protect themself? Gang of Elvis's? Freeside junkies? Brotherhood of Steel wich will eventually die out or degenerate?
    Boomers, although they can protect themselves well and are not evil like raiders or legion, they would still share similar fate with BOS if they keep isolating themselves.
    With a line up of choices like these NCR is a good choice true but Mr. House is the best choice, if you care at all about the future of mankind. The few downsides his lets call it regime may have are vastly outweigh by all the positives he can bring to humanity as a whole in the big picture.
    Too long. Damn it I did it again. Ah screw it, read or dont. Cheers.

      Legion is no better than Fiends? Something tells me you didn't talk to anyone during your Legion run; you were too busy thinking how you would do things if you were siding with House. You list all the things that make NCR shit and still end up saying that "NCR is a good choice" compared to the Legion.
      Dialogue with Cass, Raul, and Dale Barton reveal that the Legion lands are already safer than any other faction in the Mojave. Cass states that the Legion protects their caravans,supply lines, and roads. Even Fiends hesitate to attack Legion-marked caravans. If you are able to talk to Driver Nephi or Cook-Cook through mods, or even dialogue with Hsu, you find out Fiends are not intimidated by the NCR which is why they will send people to harass Camp McCarran every day. The only other thing that makes Fiends hesitate is Meansonfoabitch, but even then that's not much of a deterrent as people in Westside complain about daily Fiend attacks.
      Dale Barton confirms Cass's statements about caravan security. He says when he travels he doesn't even need a guard because there are no raiders in Legion lands. He also states that Legion doesn't burden him with taxes something which the NCR does and probably House would too. House has the 3 Families pay him which they resent. If you have Primm fall under NCR rule, House sends his securitrons to collect heavy taxes on them. I wouldn't put it past him to have taxes on caravans if he controlled the Mojave.
      Raul states life back east before the Legion was complete shit. He says that life was very difficult due to raiders everywhere. When you start Honest Hearts, if you talk to the people in the Happy Trails Caravan Company, they mention that the White Legs and 80s are pretty much in control up north. NCR couldn't deal with the White Legs and ended up getting roads destroyed.
      You can't say that Legion makes you sick by saying they're worse than Fiends without showing your ignorance or your bias. Fiends use chems to make them battle effective which makes them go insane. Legion prohibits their use. St. James and Dermot sells children to Fiends for whatever vile purposes. Cook-Cook burns his slaves alive; you find an instance in Dermot's ledger that he burns a boy he bought and burns Pretty Sarah after raping her. Even Canyon Runner shows more mercy to the Weathers family. He says "normally they would have to die," but seeing how weak they are, he lets them live.
      I'm not arguing that the Legion is better than House; I'm arguing that the Legion is a better compared to the NCR, tribals, and the Fiends. This meme of "Legion are just raiders and don't have a future" needs to stop.

    • @sabergreen2010
      @sabergreen2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    • @EkkieEkk
      @EkkieEkk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      sabergreen2010 legion doesn't go nearly as extreme as cook cook or the fiends. Anyone the legion tortures or enslaves are enemies of war, simple as that. they may seem brutal, but it's the best way to ensure actual stable society is set up, rather than the barely functional society of the NCR that's headed towards collapse.

    • @sabergreen2010
      @sabergreen2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +69

      Considering I've found evidence Legion members who partake in both rape and Cannibalism I'm still not seeing a difference. The only thing I could maybe the legion has a different stance on is drug use and that's questionable if the Legion actually holds up to that standard since officers can be found taking chems in their private quarters. As far as stability goes I have to disagree there too. Without Ceaser the legion will collapse. Loyalty to him is what's holding it together as Marcus said "They follow the man not his ideals." As far as people the legion subjects their cruelty to being enemies of war. Does it really matter when the Legion are the instigators of that war?

    • @EkkieEkk
      @EkkieEkk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      sabergreen2010 where is this evidence? Is this indicative of the entire legion at all or just those people? Also Chem use is a crime, the guilty officer does it in secret for a reason. Otherwise, he'd be executed.

    This is why I hate Bethesda's modification of lore. In Fallout, the Brotherhood were protecting all technology they could find for the rebuilding of society (and were trading with the Hub, a caravan went right to their door). After the NCR was formed, they freely helped them, it's the main reason Shady Sands is so technologically advanced in Fallout 2.
    In Fallout 2, they were assisting the NCR with the Enclave, due to their advanced tech knowledge.
    In the canceled 3, a change in leadership would have led them to start hording knowledge, leading to a war with the NCR, which they lost. It's a possible outcome that would (probably) have been explained better in game.
    In Bethesda's 3 they're a tech-worshiping (new), isolationist (new), weapon-hording (incomplete take) extremist group. This seems to have been done to make Lyon's splinter group look even better (look how they rise above the rest of the Brotherhood, who we changed to make worse).
    Fallout: New Vegas had to build on that, since most players had only played 3. They tried their best to correct some mistakes. They reminded players that the Brotherhood had fought the Master's army and the Enclave. Veronica's quest is about how shortsighted and self-destructive that ideology is in an advancing world.
    On a personal note: anyone who completed Veronica's quest, listened to that last back and forth between her and McNamara (V: we'll die out, M: (sigh) I know), and still think the Brotherhood "deserve" to be wiped out, is heartless. At best, it should be seen as pulling life support.

      Feel like in 4 they go a bit back to their roots,terminal entries explain how they trade with waste landers,protect caravans and all of that but their main mission is still lreserving pre war tech and preventing it from getting misused. They are not perfectly 1:1 but it's as good as it gets

      @@sokratikas brotherhood in 4 is an unholy combination of the outcasts and enclave from Fallout 3. Their "trade" is backed by firepower and their "protection" is paid for. Bethesda just took their remade brotherhood (the outcast "purists") and added the enclave's "might makes right" and authoritarian beliefs.

    Unfortunately true. If your introduction to Fallout was with 3, you might be given the false impression that the Brotherhood is filled with noble, well-intentioned people, but many people forget that Lyons and his chapter were renegades who split off from the Brotherhood because they wanted to do some good. The red-and-black-painted Brotherhood members you encounter (specifically if you have the Operation Anchorage DLC) are the *real* members of the Brotherhood of Steel who left when Lyons stopped the cycle of hoarding. They're hostile bastards who look down on any other wastelander that isn't one of them and they showcase the real nature of the Brotherhood.
    Though I think New Vegas does a far better job of explaining their mentality, I'm not sure any of Bethesda's titles has ever properly dug into their motivations. I've played 3, New Vegas (not Bethesda developed, but that wasn't my point) and Fallout 4 (as well as 1 and 2, but that's irrelevant), and none of them really touch deep enough on the Brotherhood to make you understand why they act the way they do. Yes, nukes destroyed most of the known world, and it is a piece of technology, but it gives you no real insight into how they came to the conclusion that just hiding technology from people... you know, the thing people created in the first place and can one day create again, is supposed to save humanity from itself. They really just seem like mindless zealots with no future. I'm sure at one point they might have been useful for keeping the last remnants of humanity from killing each other, but it's not like they're out stopping raiders and super mutants from going on rampages. Only Lyons' chapter did that and they were effectively not the real Brotherhood anymore.
    The Brotherhood of Steel doesn't preserve humanity, it just preserves technology... and then uses that technology on other people to maintain its power. At least the Enclave and Caesar had a vision for humanity's future, even if it sucked.

When I played Fallout 3 I was absolutely behind the Brotherhood all the way because they were protecting the people and distributing clean water everywhere and acting like actual Knights would (At least for the most part). Infinite Adriannn apparently some people believe either Arthur Maxson or a sympathizer assassinated Sarah Lyons after the events of 3 so Arthur could assume the role of elder. Which I personally believe is bull. Putting aside my obvious favoritism and support of the BoS it actually doesn’t make sense from a character perspective for Arthur to have done this since he A. Had a crush on Sarah in 3 and B. It doesn’t pan out personality wise. Arthur has a code of honor he listens to his subordinates and he even is humble enough to have prevent a cult of personality to have formed in the west coast early on.
