  • If your new HP laptop has updates that won't install then this video will show you a simple and quick solution that actually works. Without typing anything.
I've seen this problem several times recently - a brand new laptop that runs Windows Update but gets stuck with several failed updates that won't install - usually these are for audio components as shown at the start of this video.
Clicking Update just loops with failure errors - 0x80070103 and 0x80248007 appear in the video, but there are often others.
Watch it for proof this works and then grab what you need here...

Extract the two files and then run the one for your operating system with Admin rights.
Although I've seen this problem on new Windows 11 devices, the above also contains a fix for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Essentially, the services used by Windows Update are turned off, then the cached update files deleted and the processes restarted.
After a reboot, Windows Update checks again - but this time it doesn't have a list of updates that are older than those currently installed and the problem is fixed.
You can enter the commands to reset Windows Update manually - which some other videos show.
But why do that if you don't have to?
    😁
Credit actually goes to Shawn Brink for the clever script to automate the reset process perfectly. Other scripts exist and you could make your own, but this is the one I used and I have this on my PC fixing USB stick for this and all the other times that I feel a Windows Update reset might help.
