    I'm thinking about moving to Bangor in the future. I'm a native new Yorker and I currently live in Virginia. I'm hoping to find a place with a mix of urban and suburban and I was told that Maine [and specifically Bangor] was a good choice for me to consider.
    Also...considering all the shit that's going on in the world...I wanna be as close to the Canadian border as possible...

      Bangor has so much to offer and the neighboring towns are really desirable, too. Old Town is where I would go for.

    I’m moving to Herman, just outside of Bangor in August or September(whenever our house is done being built). It is a dream come true and one we’ve been working on for 5 years. I’m still pinching myself, tbh. Honestly, your state is the most gorgeous place I’ve ever seen! I’m going to watch everything you’ve put out so that I can become better acquainted with things to do and see. Bangor is the perfect size for me…maybe not as “cool” as Portland but it’ll work for us just fine. We are moving from the Midwest where I’ve lived all my life. This will be my first big move. I’m scared but so excited!
    I first visited Bangor/Bar Harbor in 2018. I instantly fell in love. Acadia was my first ocean experience and I just couldn’t believe just how stunning, pristine, and blue it was. I was 43 and had never seen the ocean. Your food up there is just, omg. The air is so clean, as well. Acadia is perfection and I knew the first time I saw it, I had to permanently move to Maine to be as close to the ocean as possible within our budget. It took a lot of begging on my part to get my husband to agree, but I finally got it done. I feel so blessed.

      I am so happy for you. Hermon (with an o), is a growing town and a lovely place. The hardware store downtown is staffed with very helpful folks. I bought a storm door there not long ago (I live 2 miles from the Hermon border).
      You will want to make plans to visit Schoodic Point and stop at Birch Harbor for a snack afterwards. I have a video of that harbor.
      Also, you may find value in my other channel, "These Maine Towns." Happy planning!

      @@YOUandMaine I can’t believed I misspelled the town I’m going to be living in.🤦‍♀️😜 I have a super random question. We are needing to set up electrical very soon with Central Maine Power(per our contractor). I’m wondering if you have had a good/bad experience with them(if you use them at all)? Are they good about fixing outages, etc? My husband was looking at reviews and it was like, yikes. Reviews need to be taken with a grain of salt, but still. Getting a local’s opinion would be helpful, so thank you in advance.

    • @YOUandMaine
      @YOUandMaine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nikkivenable73 That is a great question. I've lived all over the State of Maine and it completely is determined by where you live. Not the town so much as the characteristics of the area. If you live on one of the peninsulas like in Georgetown you will lose power all the time. In Hermon it will depend on if you are in town or out in the country where tree limbs fall. I live on Union St in Bangor and rarely lose power yet one street over they will lose power all the time due to limbs and trees falling.
      Response time to power outages is determined by the population in your area. Lots of people = quick response. Hope that helps.

    • @nikkivenable73
      @nikkivenable73 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@YOUandMaine yes, this helps! We will be living near Hermon pond and surrounded by trees so the electrical lines coming down may be an issue but it is what it is. We live in the Midwest currently and have hardly any trees but we still manage to have too many power outages although they get them fixed rather quickly. Reading the reviews on Central Maine Power doesn’t engender confidence but I also don’t put a lot of stock in reviews.
      One last question if I might: Do you recommend a generator and if so, do you have one you recommend? We are thinking of a battery powered one but I’d be very interested in what you recommend(if any). It seems like people in Maine always have generators and we have no idea where to start.

    • @YOUandMaine
      @YOUandMaine  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nikkivenable73 I have an opinion, not empirically supported, but I have one, lol. I tend to avoid trends and what "others" buy. Most folks are installing Generac generators as they are the lowest bid. I have a relative who has spent his career working on generators and when I asked his opinion he favored Kohler or Onan. Those are pricey. But, you get what you pay for. Mind you, I am referring to permanent placement.
      You can get portable generators, of that, I would only buy something with a Honda motor on it. If you are handy with residential wiring you can connect a portable unit to your existing wiring via a patch cable. TH-cam has an endless supply of experts to guide you there.
      There are always generators on Facebook Market Place or in the regional sales handout "Uncle Henrys." You could shop there and discover a completely new Maine experience.

      Congratulations!!! Maine has several larger cities with growing hospitals; Portland, Lewiston, Augusta, and Bangor. I live here in Bangor and it's a great city. There are a host of larger communities with healthy hospitals; Brunswick, Presque Isle, York, Bridgton, Farmington, Machias, etc. I have another channel that gives overviews of the many towns in Maine - th-cam.com/channels/Zc0Krz-h82Fd4b1R8Zh8xQ.html

    I live in Bangor. It's really not a great city to live in and very expensive for a small city. There has been an increase in the population over the past 3 or so years. The city is starting to become overpopulated with people from surrounding towns shopping every day with the already 33k people living in the city. It's like taking the population of Portland and putting them in Bangor.

    • @YOUandMaine

      I grew up in Bridgton and saw Portland expand into Windham and Scarborough. Nobody believed there would ever be support for the mall that went in to Windham in the early 80s. There are two there now. I live in Bangor now and agree there is stress. The good news is there is room to grow in every direction. The bad news = roads.
