My husband and I vacation in Maine as often as we can. Just about every day I ask him if we can move to Maine. No luck so far. I think one of your number one Pros should be the clean air. In Delaware, born here, the air is such poor quality and I need to use an inhaler every day to breathe. Our last trip to Maine I noticed the air quality. I didn't have to use my inhaler not even one time. Maine is how this entire country should be. We always try to visit towards end of season in late September or early October. Maine.....no place better to live.
I was originally from Jersey and I moved to Maine for about 10 years (only moved because of family issues, I did NOT want to move from Maine.) I lived in Ellsworth for a bit, yes tourist season traffic is terrible in the heavy tourist areas. When I lived there we used to plan our vacations in the state around tourist season spring and late fall, or winter. Yea, in the winter there arent as many businesses open, but its nice and peaceful.
I've also lived in Calais, Presque Isle, Millinocket, and Houlton. It can be a bit harder to get internet, depending on where in those areas you lived. In Houlton I was right at the Canadian border, away from the city, and it was tough to get good internet.
I got used to the snow pretty fast, to me the worst times for snow seemed to be Jan-March. It just kinda keeps piling up on the sides so you get drifts, but it's not a big deal. They know how to deal with snow in Maine.
Bugs, yea, I don't like some of the bugs, they will get right in your face.
I brought my Arkansas family to Maine in 2021, now my fiance wants to move to Maine too, he loves it. So sometime soon I'll be back to the way life should be.

One summer I forgot to put on insect repellant when i went out. By the end of the day i had about 20 to 25 mosquito bites on my legs.
I still love it.
We call them the Maine Air National Guard. Where you more in the northern part of the state or down by the marsh is Scarborough.

Taking our first trip in October. We’re planning on a few vacations over the next few years to get a feel for life. Wife’s looking to work around main campus of Maine Med Center.
That’s awesome. If you can get up here in early October you might still be able to see the fall foliage. If you do definitely recommend taking a drive on the Kancamagus Highway from Conway to Lincoln NH or up Route 5 from Limerick to Cornish which is much shorter to see some pretty colors.
Great video! Why are so many NE states among the safest in the nation?
I think it has to do with lack of population, colder weather and at least in Maine many towns know everyone and in general people are friendly.
Great video! I believe you provided a great amount of information. I've been wanting to visit this state for a while now; it was on my top 2 list of states to visit in the east coast. In July I stayed in Manchester New Hampshire for 9 days for some work I did. Since my flight back home was late I got to the to Maine for the first time and I loved it. I visited York where I went to the Nubble Light, Stonewall Kitchen which was cool, and The Goldenrod where I try a lobster sand which and blueberry ice-cream which was one of the 2 or 3 best ice creams I have tried. I am from southern California where there are beaches and mountains. I felt peace when I was there, and I feel like most of the cities or towns there are close-knit. I am not used to very cold weather (nothing below 40s) since I live in the city. What are some good places to visit or live in the South or center part of the state where It does not get freezing cold and are school or park-based jobs good there? Hopefully this state stays calm/peaceful.
Thanks for the comments Michael. There are a lot of school based jobs in Southern Maine. Seems like every school needs help. Not sure what you mean by park based. There are a lot of state parks here just not sure if the employment in them. Unfortunately it will get colder than 40 degrees in the winter. But your blood does thicken up. Haha. 40 degrees is a still swimming weather. 😀. As I said, Southern Maine is very different from central and Northern Maine. Tons of jobs, climate is not as cold and a lot of things to do. Starting home prices are close to 325 to 400 k though. No bad places Freeport south which is about 25 miles north of Portland. I have a lot more clients moving out west like Waterboro, Cornish, Hollis, Buxton as taxes are cheaper then the coastal towns. But definitely come visit. Lots of light houses. Maybe go on a Casco bay cruise out of Portland. I just posted a few days ago what to do in a maine in the summer. Fall is awesome as well, my favorite time of the year. Keep me posted if you get back this way, I can give you plenty of ideas.
@@LiveLifeInMaine Thank you for the feedback and suggestions. I do not mind central Maine as long as it does not get in the negatives and risk having the snow trap me in at home. That happened to people last winter in the mountains in southern California.

We considered moving to ME after 20 years of visits. Maine is not as cheap as you think. Homes are relatively low priced but everything else, you will pay. Also finding good quality homes is a challenge depending on area. I worked for a builder and did HVAC-R work. In ME the realtor kept talking about ME engineered. Meaning no codes, or plans are followed in many areas. When we saw how some homes were built and maintained, it was a problem. Then there is the long dark winter, and it gets cold. If you are affected good luck. Now after 35 years of visits we still love the state, only to vacation nothing else. And one more observation over the last decade or so. Traffic has doubled and tripled in many places. We were shocked that in some small towns up north had more traffic than our town of almost 90K!!!!!
Thanks for the message. I would agree with you for the most part but the winters south of Freeport and on the coast are much milder than say Augusta, Bangor or or further north. And yes a big part of Maine, especially northern maine has a lot of “do it yourself” home remodeling. The point I try to make is how safe our state is, how traffic is minimal excerpt during the tourists season in July and Aug and how most people are very friendly.

As the price of cars go up, consider how awful Maine roads are. The pot holes, salt and sand make the vehicles not last like in southern states.
Completely agree with you regarding the salt. Have a client who found me via this channel who I helped move from Utah to Maine. He started an under coating business for vehicles. If you watched the essentials of living in Maine video I did, having a car wash monthly membership is on the list.
Don’t know if I missed this, but right now I live in Texas and I’m considering moving to Bangor and I’m wondering about the humidity. How is the humidity in the summer because Texas is horrible
Actually I believe the New England states are all more humid then Texas in general. But humidity in the high 70’s or low 80’s feels a lot different then 100’s. Bangor does have lower humidity than say Portland because of the ocean. My wife is from San Antonio. Sometimes she’s still chilly here in Mid July with average temps in mid 80’s with average humidity.
Maine and Alaska sound a lot alike.
What area has the snow?
It’s snows throughout the state. We did just get a dusting yesterday morning. I live 15 miles south of Portland in Biddeford. Yes the snow yesterday was very early in the year. Typically it does not snow until at Thanksgiving. The dusting we had yesterday is all gone. Highs this weekend and over the next week is in the high 40’s low 50’s

Here in Colorado, they put letters on mountain sides for planes. On the coast, they use letters on flags for boats. Not everything is about this modern fluid absurdity. @@thinkfloyd2594I "hate" to break it to you, but a lot of people are moving because they live in highly political cities and they want to get away from politics and live in a more simple natural environment that doesn't revolve around extreme ideologies. If the same extremism is in these small towns than there's no point in moving. It's a valid inquiry.

Oh no diversity in Maine

The lack of diversity is why people move to Maine. It means little crime and friendly communities. Portland is becoming unlivable and anyone who has kids is engaged in white flight.

Haha. Yeah my brother-in-law calls them the Maine Air National Guard. There’s no doubt they are tough in some areas. Where I live in Southern Maine they’re not bad. But Northern Maine, or up in the woods, they can be tough. That said, compared to all the crime in the bigger cities across the county, hurricane, tornadoes, flooding, fires, lawlessness, I’ll take mosquitoes and snow anytime.
Mainers have the highest property tax burden nationwide...
Great place for outdoors..if you are looking to make a living you can go down 1 state and at least double your money while paying 0 taxes..there is alot of weirdos..and its very democratic, liberal..there is only 1.3 million people therefore there isnt as much crazy stuff going on..
Southern maine is very democratic albeit myself and many I associate with are conservatives. Northern maine is just the opposite. Hence two electoral votes. In term of making more money in NH. It’s not what you make, it’s what you keep. True NH has no state tax, but property taxes and housing prices are a lot higher than Maine’s. NH is also an awesome state to live in.
Don't move to Maine! It's only nice on the surface. You loose power all the time, there's floods twice a year, taxes are highest in the country and the people are close minded and intolerant. I see hate crimes here all the time, even just against "people from away"

Maine has been ranked one of the safest states to live in every year. Maybe the people you know are intolerant and close minded to you.
Here’s the biggest con - this guy is a realtor and trying to sell BS. I lived in Maine on two different occasions on work assignments. It’s a very bland area. Absolutely no pulse. When I was there 75% of the folks I met (friends) when I was there wanted to move and live some where else. . The cell phone coverage like this guy says sucks because big companies do not pump money into the infrastructure of this desolate state. The ocean is to cold to swim in during the summer months. It’s also an old money state- the old money folks do not like new comers. Also, ice storms can get very very ugly- no electricity. Because the infrastructure investment is so weak the power outages during these ice storms can be very long term outages. Just research the ice storm they had in 1998 some lost power for months
Hey Jizmo, not selling BS. Yes the once in a century Ice Storm in 1998 was horrible and yes a lot of people lost power for days, even weeks. When did something happen like that again. When was the last time you were here? As I said in a recent video, when I was in HS I wanted nothing to do with the state. Thought it was too slow and not enough adventure. But there is something to be said about being in nature. Is the ocean water cold, sure is. Maybe gets up to 65 in the summer. But oh the lakes, rivers, etc. Before real estate I was in IT. Agree with the internet back in the early 2000’s. Not the case anymore, especially where I live. Fiber to the home, 1gb symmetrical bandwidth 49.99 a month. But hey be a hater. Maine is not for everyone, and thank god it’s not or it would not have the quality of life and highest rankings for safety every year. Finally I think people are smart enough to make their minds up and not get peddled by realtors as you put it. Sounds like you had a bad experience, sorry for you. Good luck.
