This list seems to assume most people want to live on or near the coast. There are many people who prefer the mountains and forests.

Most people live on the coast and the southern border. Very little infrastructure in the interior. This video is focused on benefits that can't be found away from the populated areas like medical facilities, shopping, restaurants, etc.

Disappointing. Not one mention of Lubec in Washington County nor any mention of the very large Aroostook County up north. But then again, I’m looking for solitude, not a vibrant night life. I want clear night skies and the peace that comes with open farm land and the ability to hear the snow fall. Maybe it’s just as well that these places weren’t mentioned.

I live in rockland and we don’t need transplants from other states..never mentioned rockport or camden.

As indicated by some of the comments, fact and figure checking did not figure highly into the making of this video (and I suspect others of the series). I was a bit surprised to see a picture of my neighborhood, in Falmouth MASS, being shown to highlight the beauty of Falmouth, Maine. The image show two kayakers moving towards a bluff that is part of Falmouth Heights, MASS. My house is just beyond camera shot. Both Falmouths are similar, but not identical.
I think it’s because the entire content-text and images were AI generated. Don’t you think?
Not to mention the logistic impossibility of being 11 miles south of Portland while being 11 miles north of Freeport 🤣

There's nothing cheap about living in Maine. I was born and raised in Maine, It is by far one of the most beautiful states in the New England area. But cheap it's not. Oil is one of the most common sources of heating homes. The taxes are off the charts and some towns are riddled with heroin and alcoholics. Among other types of drugs. I also believe Old Orchard Beach is not what it used to be. But there is definitely plenty to see and do if you can avoid a few certain towns.

Stay out of Lewiston auburn lots of crime and drugs there…i hear you about the price of oil I pay almost 1000 per month in rockland.
It's cheap if you know how.
I agree that Camden is the nicest town in Maine. I have to correct the computer voice on one fact. Kennybunkport is where the Bushes live on Walkers Point. Kennbunck is a small village just before Kennbunkport.
Also the town shown in the photo in Kennebunkport not Kennebunk.
The photos that they are showing for hallowell is actually Augusta the capital of Maine
Camden is easily the nicest town in Maine, and miles ahead of most of the towns on this list.
Camden is a tourist town and not a place most people would want to live. I know this because I'm a Mainer and live in Bangor. There are many beautiful towns that are much less expensive and family friendly.

Hate going through camden lot of summer people there..i live in rockland and we get a lot of tourist here and cruise ships, but when the winter hits the summer people are nowhere to be found..lived in rockland born and raised for 69 years now and am retired and living the good life…many tourist expect to see the boogie man here because of Stephen king lol…they all float down here.

I lived in Bath and then Brunswick Me as a child.. A military brat. Life changing enchanting Maine! How I long to return to thee! But alas, I visited for a mere three days as an adult and was welcomed with Racist slurs mixed in with some peace and quiet while walking the insanely beautiful streets of Brunswick Me, 2003. It was June.. Maybe that was the mistake? But I am hoping in 2023, this Puerto Rican will be better received cause I am trekking back to my childhood home, racist young collage men riding in pick up trucks yelling the N word to me or not. America, land of the free, home... of the brave. When those words are read or spoken, I still think of MAINE. See? a mixed bag but maybe those enchanted forests and wild blueberries will take my mind of the evils of this world eh? Cause that is what I am heading to Maine for, the nature and architecture. God help me lol!

I was born and raised in Downeast Maine. The people are clannish and not very welcoming to outsiders. Probably something to keep in mind if Maine is your final destination.
Most small towns in Maine are clannish and unwelcoming if you actually want to live there. One town l lived in, a flatlander ran for selectman, unopposed, after living there for about 10 years, and lost badly to a write in that promptly declined the job.
If you want to move to Maine but, don't want to live near a ocean or city I reccomend moving to Sumner, Hartford or Buckfield! (Just don't go 10 mph when your driving....thats annoying af)
I remember the Buckfield "Mall". The canopy over the pumps looked bigger than the store.

I'm sorry but though the places mentioned are indeed wonderful & worth living in, little of these descriptions are accurate. For example, Falmouth does not have a quaint main street. Also, various photographs are not of the towns to which they are attributed. Yarmouth & Falmouth each have photos of others places in them.
Interesting you barely left southern Maine aka Northern Mass. a lot more quaint small towns and villages at the end of I95 Houlton to Madawaska. Housing prices are even lower

I watch a lo of videos about places,but I won't be watching any more Placeaholics after seeing and listening to all the inaccuracies in this one.The are a lot more than what you are seeing in this comments section.

Hard to take this computer voice so I listened to just a few minutes. I live on WA's Puget Sound and if I were forced to live on the East Coast, ME would be the place. Always loved it when I worked and visited there, however Black Fly season is nasty .

Undoubtedly Cape is by far the best place to live in Maine - but I think you short-sold areas like Rangeley, Bethel, Newry....

Shore Rd between York & Ogunquit is a beautiful drive! We love this area too & often vacation there.

Auburn, you open with a few of Lewiston, Maine. Shops and places, I don't think so. My shop is one of 3 businesses Downtown, so I don't think you can say it has a downtown. Hopefully in the coming year it will have a few more store fronts

@@yahooskip lived in Temple, Rome, Belgrade Lakes, Mt. Vernon, Winthrop, and Readfield for 45 years. Been thru and/or worked in both towns more times than l can count. Left the state about 9 years ago, will not be returning. I do hope your business is doing well, and l do genuinely wish you and the area well, l just prefer to live elsewhere. Which business is yours, l may have been there?

Many of these towns may be considered "best" places to live, but only if you've got lots of money, honey. And what about inland towns like Naples, West Paris, and Norway? What about China Lake?

Seems kind of skewed being 10 of the 20 are in Cumberland county. I 'm 52, was born in Maine and lived here my whole life. As far as I'm concerned if Massachusetts wants Cumberland county back they can have it back.

Fun fact. Average snow fall inland is about 98 inches per year and temperatures can get down to -30. However, if you consider yourself hardy, and are determined, land can be quite affordable.

The best thing about Maine is LL bean Freeport.....the make a U-TURN and go south somewhere else......the ocean is ice cold even the summer.
It is impossible to be south of Portland and at the same time be north of Freeport. Very very little of the audio matches up with the video. And when you start to talk about Hallowell the video is of the western river front side of the capital city Augusta. Just saying

I lived in Maine (Bangor) for over 20 years, grew up there since grade school. Never once encountered a "village." You should retitle this video 20 cliches about southern Maine. When I moved away back in the early 2000's we were already overrun by "people from away" so I am thankful this video won't add to that...

You need deep pockets to live in Maine. High taxes, high cost of living, and long harsh winters. We are also the oldest and getting older as the younger are moving out for better jobs, COL, education opportunities for kids.

@@vincentanguoni8938 Heating oil at $5.50/gallon, firewood is at $400/cord, highest property rates in New England, 5.5% sales tax(8% on restaurants and hotels), state income tax even on retirement income. I can move out of state and save an easy $10k/year without even trying. Just a couple more anchors to hoist up and I am out of here.
And unfortunately the idiots we send to Augusta are immune to the plight of people trying to make ends meet. This winter is going to be brutal.

It’s a nice video, but this is essentially an 18 minute ad for Northern Massachusetts. Well over half the places are within minutes of each other in the greatest Portland ‘metro’ area. The southern Maine coast is NOT the real Maine for a lot of us, the lifelong Maine residents.
Maine is divided into 4 regions: Southern Maine (aka: Northern Mass), Downeast Maine, Northern Maine (The County) and the Western Mountains region.
This video is heavily biased towards Southern Maine, and is unfortunately a poor representation of the best places to live here. Other than a couple mentioned towns, it ignores the majority of the truly beautiful and great places to live.
Camden and a bunch of others probably paid to be left out.

I’m from Maine and this a sugar coated promo. Maine is one of the most expensive places to live, crowded in the summers, buggy, and wicked winters. Schools are good but the neighborhoods near good schools are over priced for what you get. People from out of state are flipping of old homes with a coat of paint than charging Massachusetts prices. The locals are priced out of their homes and neighborhoods. The culture is disappearing. Lobster used to be plenty but out of the country fishers SHIPS have destroyed the crop. The local fishermen have a limit on what they can caught and they get pennies on the dollar causing them to live under the poverty limit. Internal Maine has been destroyed by logging and the land has been poisoned so people can live on it. Northern Maine has loss it’s jobs and the population is leaving. Yes, it’s beautiful and you will find good people there, and yes the ocean is alluring but this a place harding people survive.
