Can't go wrong with Casio. I'm wearing my AE-1200 right now! Love this little beast. Super easy to set up. Super easy to push the buttons. Great little light. As a kid of the 80's, it's a match made in heaven.

same here except the band is not long-lasting. mine broke after 2 years of 24/7/365 wear in a work from home setting. so i upgraded to a gw-m5610u but is miss the easy to push buttons.

Imho the best Casio watch is W800 😄 It has 10 year battery, bunch of functions, is just the right size for 90% of people, has an amazing display, 100m WR and an amazing backlight.

100% agree. I’ve owned this watch for a few years as my work watch and it’s awesome. All the robustness of a G-Shock in a much better size. For $20-$30 you really can’t beat it. I’ve tried a ton of different Casios under $50 and they all have under 100m water resistance, weak light and/or poor display.

@@brett233 Exactly. W800 is the only watch of this size with 100m WR, at least here where I live. Also, all other 100m WR models are bigger than W800. Its just a better version of F91 imho 😄

Just picked up a Seiko Skyliner 6100-8000 no date. On bracelet. From Japan for £230
I know it's not as value as Casio, but if people want a lovely dress watch which has some classic looks vintage Seiko , Grand Seiko, King Seiko is definitely where it's at.....I won't afford a Rolex or the Omega I want for several years so Casio and Seiko... THANK YOU

I got mine in 2015 I work in construction and believe me I’ve beaten it pretty good over the years, the paint on the resin is gone lots of scratches everywhere but stills works and also has the original battery. • @waffle911

Fun fact: the AE-1200 is related to the DW-291, which is a 200m water resist budget alternative to a G-Shock; their modules and cases are interchangeable, and the DW-291 module is essentially a re-organized AE-1200 without the world map. The AE-1300 also uses the same form factor but does not share world time function with the other two.

    • @MrModcat

I've got 2 Casio Royales - one on stainless bracelet, one on resin strap. They are the best bang for the buck watches you can buy. I used the resin strap one as my travel watch last summer - it worked amazingly well as a travel watch, was very comfortable in the heat and humidity and can be easily set to display two time zones, which made tracking home time a piece of cake.

  • @PhantomObserver
    @PhantomObserver ปีที่แล้ว +7

I bought the bracelet one about 15 years ago. Still have it. One thing I appreciated was the three additional time zones, which let me keep track of time in my parents' home as well as UTC and whatever destination I needed to plan for (I usually wind up flying multiple stops).

I love this watch for so many reasons! I haven’t had a digital watch in many, many years and I thought it would be difficult to set up. It took a little getting used to, but once I took the time to read the manual it was so much fun setting up. Just so much fun for everyday use. I thought it would look small on my wrist, but it’s perfect. Great review!

I've owned and worn mine for over a year. There are some scratches, but you know, that's all part of the "character" of the watch. It's mine, it's part of my personal history and it is isn't a $20000 watch that will sell for a fortune in the future. I actually remember where, when, why and how some of those scratches were made. That's priceless.

It just works, the world time is really cool (I love the world map) and using functions like the stop watch is really simple. About the scratches and scuffs - honestly doesn't look barely used even though it's been worn many times.

This is my first ever square watch and first Casio less than 2 weeks ago. Own few G-Shock but all are round shapes, and bulky.
Agree this is best value for money Casio, as a quartz ultimate GMT watch. It is useful for me as Caller GMT and even as Traveler GMT.
It has actually 5 time zones including the world time mode that I can click to look at while knowing my home time. Handy when I communicate with my office and customers of various cities.
Love the world map and circular home time (wish it is easier to distinguish between the minute and hour hands).
Just pushing the top 2 buttons I can instantly change the other time zone including the one at world time mode to become my new home time when I travel to that new city.
Another bonus is the illuminator light is still on even when I press other buttons, unlike my G-Shock watches.

This baby is the one that got me started on wristwatches, mine is the classic colorway just like the one you opened up here. Still by far, my top favorite Casio overall. The functions are great, easy as hell to use even with all those functions, it looks dope, and even the light is decent despite not being that sweet Electro Luminescence (granted, if it was, then it wouldn't have a 10yr life). In time, I'll be applying an SKXMod case to it get that stainless steel heft which might seem odd for what's a budget watch but I really want to beef it up for as many years as possible (and I'll keep the original body for sentiments sake). LOVE this watch.

I bought a black ae 1200, but soon captivated by the ae 1300. The dot matrix day/mode display is the reason why. Looks much better than the 1200, except for the 3 barely useful dw 6900 esque second markers. But really not a deal breaker for me. The stop watch is awesome, the sports timer functions are surprisingly useful for daily use.

I think it’s my favorite watch overall for travel. ✈️
    Things I love,
The weight. It doesn’t set off airport alarms. The looks. The time zone features are amazing. The quick backlight is so easy. I trust it. It’s reliable. It’s durable. It’s replaceable. Oh…and I can sit in some hot springs with it, go swimming with it on, no problem. It’s just a great travel watch.
My only complaint might be sizing the stainless steel band. That kind of sucked, but now that it’s done, it’s my favorite watch. I often wear it at home. It would be perfect for me if it had some countdown timer built into it. I will probably end up buying the countdown timer watch for at home, and just save this one for when I travel out of town.

I know you ask us to not use the moniker "Royale..." But I cannot help it! I'm sorry, but AE1200 isn't a catchy name IMO, especially being such an iconic look while also being so bloody resourceful.
I don't use "Royale" as much as a James Bond reference in mind nowadays, instead I associate the name with the style, with the retrofuturistic aesthetic like it was not only out of a spy/James bond movie, but a Sci-fi one, as if it is some high tech communicator.
But I am surprised my favorite watch - and now my daily driver - had its own video in your channel! I was inspired by your previous list to get it, and I am happy it has its own review from you. Surely the best 300 reais spent from me here in Brazil (even when considering watches are pricier around here, it is still worth every cent!). I first had it in the metal bracelet, but also got myself a rubber strap I was using for a while as well.

I can't believe it... I legit ordered one the day before yesterday, should be in by tomorrow!
Been looking at some modding kits too, but not sure yet if I'm going that way.

Yep, a great timepiece indeed. I recently acquired the silver version with the stainless steel bracelet. I've since modded it with a kit from SKXMod. Next level now. Great video as always 👍

Russell, your a scream , i am spilling tea everywhere, royal royal royal, I have one already, been half way round world and bashed to bits ,used diving, 25 mts, still works .Gets worn more than my expensive ones as I don't care about it.
Probably only watch you ever need ,lol to go along with another 50 g shocks.
After seeing this now rushing off to argos with £ 29.99 to buy this one ,good job open till late.
Like your wife's comments 😂. Thanks for a great channel.

I am delighted to see this one Russell. Totally agree. Of all my watches this is the one I wear when traveling on business across time zones from Istanbul to Jakarta regularly. It's by far the best world timer, by far the lightest, by far the least troublesome as you don't even need to take it off going through the airport metal detector. I have the one with the green world map just to give it a bit of colour. Great video!!

you can use a compressor to manage the audio levels of your vocal recordings. The volume seems to fluctuate quite noticeably at the beginning of your sentences.
Thanks for the video, currently got this watch on my wrist.

I looked at the AE1200 for years, always saved in my cart never bought because already had an AE3000. Then one day I saw on Amazon that there was a used one for 13 USD and I bought it. "Used", it was literally without a scratch. Now I'm a maniac and buying a bunch of g shocks but the AE1200 has a special place in my heart, definitely best bang for the buck.

I have the steel bracelet version, which I slightly modded by removing the text from the case. It looks a lot better now, and I still wear it a fair bit. You definitely get a lot for your money with this one.

Pro tip: most nato straps are too thick to slide behind the spring bars on this watch. But you can use a small file to file away some strap material right where the two spring bars lay and make the nato strapl thin enough there to attach the spring bars over the strap. Absolutely best value!!

It is the watch I am wearing right now. I got it cause I think it is the coolest looking world time watch. It helps me track the timezone of my partner whenever they are in an other country. The rest of the time I set it to UTC that can be useful when you are a software developer.

I bought the gold and black version, and quickly purchased the SKX modding kit. Wore it to a recent trip to NYC and it was superb.
    However......
I do feel its stolen the thunder from the Casio AE1000w of which I have x2 of. Theyre great watches that offer exactly the same functionality but are very much over looked. I can also confirm, I bought them back in 2011 and so far haven't had to change the batteries 😮 superb value for money. I wish SKX did a mod kit for them though as they're looking a little tatty now. 😢
