I'm 76 years old and bought this watch, I love it. Since it has a ten year battery there's a good chance it may outlive me. I did buy a green canvas band to go with the green watch. I love the fact that I don't have to change batteries for the rest of my life.😁
@@anuragpandey6356 Thanks for the encouraging words. I wasn't worrying until I found out my wife took out a big life insurance policy on me and then recently asked me if I wanted to go sky diving.😁
I just picked one up. I went into Wal-Mart and saw it. It was marked for $28. They rang it up and the cashier got a funny look on her face. "Wow. Your lucky day". Apparently on clearance for 5 bucks.
Literally impossible, no one else comes closer, some might make an argument about Timex but in my experience their watches have less quality at the same price point.
FINALLY! Somebody else shares my love for this watch. I've had many watches in my lifetime but I have always fallen back to this one. It's survived with me being homeless for years, and years more after. It's been to the top of mountains and the lowest basins with me, under water and in the air. I love this damn watch and I'll carry it with me everywhere I go
I use it as a GMT. I’m a British guy living in Japan, so I set the home time for London which locks the analogue on British time, and then set the digital for the Tokyo time zone. I have the silver version, and although the bracelet is obviously jangly cheap, I find it amazingly comfortable and even wear it bed (to take advantage of that backlight) without losing any arm hairs!
I got this one, the price has gone up a little, but still. You are absolutely right. I love mechanical watches, I even own a luxury watch, but this truly makes everything else feel obsolete by comparison. This watch is comfortable and staggeringly functional.
I like mechanical watches but only simple ones that basically just tell the time, analogue watches become very hard to read at a glance very quickly once you start adding extra features. If i want features i use my fully digital watch
I'm a watch guy, had a few expensive Swiss timepieces ... but Casio has a special place in my heart, my first watch was a Casio ae-30w, still working today after more than 30 years, only the band had to be changed after it fell apart.
My wife bought me the 1200WH for Christmas after me dropping MASSIVE hints for ages. I thought she'd stopped paying attention, so when I opened my present just over a year ago, she was astonished about how made up I was! I'm wearing it as I'm watching you're video. I always wanted the calculator casio when I was a younger chap, but I love this piece. My £500 Tissot chronograph, my Dan Henry, my Seiko 5 blue dial... And my Casio AE. Watches for life. So glad you've shone a light on this budget masterpiece! Love your channel, by the way! 👍🏿
Hey Dave! Solution for DST in other time zones. Just scroll over to whichever one you want DST on and hit adjust. You can toggle DST on and off this way just as would with your main time zone. The adjust feature works the same way in different time zones that you set.
Never been a watch guy, but I have one of these and I love it. Picked it up just because I got sick of reaching into my pocket to grab my phone to check the time, but I've become so accustomed to having it that at this point I feel vulnerable when I'm not wearing it lol. I've honestly considered hoarding a few of them just in case they ever become scarce somehow.
I am in the exact same situation. I did not wear watches for decades and now i am fed up of taking my phone out to check time. Also I don't want to wear smart watches so checking out the casio watches to see which works best for me. I am just worried if these watches look a little childish 😂
I had a Casio that had the calculator function, with all the little number buttons on the front. I liked that I could use it to make earthwork volume calculations in the field with it. And balance my check book.
I've never balanced a checkbook in my life. I remember when home computers first came out they advertised it for balancing your checkbook. Tandy home computer.
Before smart watches are invented, I've been wearing casio watches since I was 10. Now mykids are wearing Casio watches too. They really love them. We my daughter lost her watch, she was devastated. Luckily we went back to the beach where she lost it, we found the it.
Great review. The Vario straps made all the difference for me with the Royale. I still have mine on one, and I don't even remember where I put the stock strap.
Love Casio. Making great tech that is also affordable is a real engineering achievement. That has got to be the holy grail for any good engineer; to solve a problem better than before, while also reducing the cost to the consumer.
Thrilled to have discovered your channel Dave! Been using Casio for as long as I can remember and only ever ventured into a G-SHOCK once! Can't agree with you more that Casio has the best bang for a budget buck! Thank you for your great reviews!
Just under 2mins of this video, I already knew that this is a high quality video review for the casio watch out there. Thank you so much for making & sharing this with us. Really appreciate it!
I've had two of these (cracked the crystal at the gym on the first one) and it's easily my most worn watch (mostly due to the fact it was the only one I had for a year). After buying a few watches over $200 I realize even more how amazing this watch is. I wore this on a 2 week trip in a timezone 9 hours away from me and it was invaluable to me when I needed to know the time at the next destination with the click of a button!
I absolutely love mine. It has been a comfortable, reliable companion for years and I have taken it on almost every holiday. Easy to read at a glance, easy to use as a GMT, its light, its durable enough for 99% of regular users and if it does get lost, broken or stolen big deal, for the cost of going to Starbucks with a friend ($20-30) you can just replace it. In my opinion the only other thing that could improve the AE-1200 is if they did a solar version.
I literally walked around Wal-Mart for an hour last night, with this watch in my shopping cart before finally putting it back on the shelf at the last second. Now I wish I would have bought it. I already own the similar looking AE1300WH, along with several other Casio digital watches, so I just couldn't justify it. Now I'm going to have to go back and get it.
Just got mine in the mail today. I absolutely love this watch. It has the retro look I love. In terms of aesthetics it reminds me of that Gundam show and a bunch of other70s & 80s Japanese Anime I used to watch as a kid (some of them I still watch). Since this is a Japanese watch that makes total sense. I think I'll keep this one stock but I'll probably go ahead and 3 to 4 more for modding. I just found my new daily driver.
My favorite Casio, and daily 24/7 wear watch is the G-Shock GWM5610-1, modified with a 22mm strap adapter and a Bond-style soft ballistic nylon strap. It doesn't compare well to the AE-1200 for value, except that I specifically want the solar and radio control features. However, it'll run closer to $150 after swapping out the strap and it has less total features than the AE-1200, though the ones it has are exactly what I need and I find the display easier to read.
Agree, solar battery, radio time sync, mineral glass, shock resist, 20 bar water resist. Perfect medium size with quite large digits. Just wear them all your life with no worries at all.
I feel the same about my Casio Gshock GW5610 with solar and multi band time setting. I put it on a retro black metal set and find it a perfect "grab and go" watch. If I bang it up, just looks more "retro". True, I have $150 invested but. It is more durable, more water resistant, sets itself daily and is a classic design. Love it!
I love it. I travelled around the world 3 years ago and wouldn't risk an expensive watch despite wanting to take one. Then I found the Casio, programmed it to each time zone for my stop offs and had no worries about being robbed. I love it.
This is one of the best videos about watches I’ve seen in the ‘Tube. It’s the most wise and ironic (in the good way) video, lacking any snobbery. Great…! I love this aproach to “the World”. Thanks, 😉
Watched this, ordered on Amazon immediately to take on a Cruise to the Bahamas tomorrow, I just love and enjoy Dave's content and his honest reviews. Thanks, Dave. Shout-out from NY.
It has often been said that this watch is the best value for money. But also in my opinion the Casio G-Shock GM5610 is even better. Yes it costs five times more at around $100 but it is far more durable and accurate due to radio controlled time keeping. And it is solar powered. Just a perfect time piece.
The pushers are INCREDIBLY hard to operate on the GW-M5610 (and all similar G-Shocks). Aside that, it needs TWO pushers to switch to world time and cycle through the modes - on the AE it's simply a repeated push of the lower right pusher. And lastly, the time zone displays above the time and doesn't scroll on the AE. In my humble opinion it's way easier to operate and more legible than any of the G-Shocks - for a fraction of the money.
I used the F-91W watches for many years due to my need of a stopwatch function. They proved unbeatable - both figuratively and literally: surviving excursions into both washing machines and electric dryers, and even being chewed up by one of my dogs on occasion! Perhaps I’ll upgrade to the AE-1200WH when I next need to be “watch ready” - like many, my iPhone has taken over the time keeping function… Great Video!
My farther was a brickie and he swore by the f91w, I remember him comin home covered in brick dust cement and rubble and the only thing that ever broke on that watch was the strap. Other than that a phenomenal watch
@@shawndooley7778 this is why I believe the F91w is far tougher than any G Shock. G Shocks are bulbous and prone to being caught and hit. The F91w is so slim you'd pretty much have to crush your hand to a pulp before the watch is damaged.
My first actual watch not counting the Apple Watch I don't use anymore was a Casio CA-53W, the Databank Calculator watch. That thing is awesome, being able to quickly calculate things without needing to pull out my phone is so nice.
The Casio Royale is a watch I got for fun only to find I wear all the time. I prefer the silver one, I like the way the band works. This watch solves one problem I have with almost all digital, it allows me to see the time and stopwatch at the same time.
I tend to like silver watches as well -- I think because I like metal straps instead of leather or plastic. Usually easier to put on my wrist than one with a buckle.
I love Casio watches! My first one was given to me on Christmas 1979 in Japan from my then Japanese girlfriend. I have two G-Shock solar powered watches. One I had for 11 years and still going strong! Thanks for the video and I'm going to buy one of your shirts!
This has been my favorite watch for the past 5 years now. Amazingly I still have my second one I use for work daily, though it's a bit rough looking now. So far battery is holding true as well. I loved the design of this Casio watch since I first saw it as a little kid shortly around the similar timeline it was a new kind.
Actually find myself wearing my 5600 G-shock more than my Royale. Still love the Royale but it doesn't get much wrist time - might when I travel to Europe next year. But great arguments on why it is arguably the greatest watch.
These are the og Casio digitals, the best stocking stuffers and best grab and go watch you can have. The Vario strap is very cool will definitely be checking it out. The F91W is super comfortable if it had timex style indiglo it would be a game changer.
The SKMEI 1412 may be right up your alley. SKMEI is a chinese brand that makes good homages/copies of Casio digital watches. Their version of the F91W is actually nicer than the original and comes with electroluminescent lighting.
I have this watch 14 years ago, the battery does last over 10 years and it was as tough as G-Shock! I have mine every day exposed to sun and rain as I riding motorcycle daily and also got in couple of motorcycle accidents along the way, it survive! It's now at my personal museum collection with broken glass and cracked body but the battery still faddily alive! My motorcycle didn't survive sadly.. edit: I forgot to mention my watch shape is a round: AE-1000WD 1AVDF
I am falling in love with Casio watches and wearing a different one each day. Almost have a different one for each day of the week now. Might have to pick this Royale up.
I love how you actually did the math on the price difference from the PP to the World Timer. I added it up right after you said it, and was like "Damn he's right lol". Great video Dave! I have two new watch reviews up now and am working on the rest of my collection week by week! So I'll have plenty more to come!
I have the silver version of this watch with the metal linked strap. I bought it about 4 years ago purely because I just love the retro look of it. I've had more expensive watches in the past, but this watch honestly gets more comments than any other watch I've had.
I'll probably got those soon, the last time I bought one of their adapters they hadn't introduced an 18mm version yet lol. I was probably one of many many people who asked them for one though. That being said I will vouch for the quality of their 16mm-20mm adapters, which worked in a pinch lol.
@@manoflego123 If you get the adapters make sure you get a 22mm nato or marine nationale strap because if you get a 20mm it has a little gap and a 22 fits perfectly!
As someone that sells Casio watches, its crazy how durable and well made their watches are. Their collection is also gigantic so theres one for every taste.
I’m collecting in reverse. Over the last 5 years my wife has bought me 2 Cartier, 2 Rolex, an IWC, a JLC, an AP and a Vacheron Constantin. This year I’ve bought myself a Casio Duro and have just bought this watch. They all have their place and they are all enjoyable to wear
Hey Dave, take a look at the Timex Command Urban. You can set three home times (T1, T2, T3) with DST on or off individually for each of them. Plus you can call up a fourth time zone ("World") for querying any time zone ad-hoc while cycling through the functions - which remembers the last timezone displayed. You can make any of the three home times "the" main home time by holding down a button longer while it's being displayed.
My favorite Casio is the SGW100B-3V twin sensor watch. It has a huge display with great backlight, 4 alarms, stopwatch, temperature, compass, world time 29 time zones, magnetic declination and 200 meters water resistant. It comes on a great NATO type strap. I paid $45 and I just love it as an everyday outdoor watch. Great review of the Royale. Love the channel!
I have the sgw600h and absolutely love it. The worldtime feature, the dual screen, and the compass / temp all really make this such an awesome watch especially with the case design. You may like that one too! I tend to bounce between this one and my ae1200
@@quartercast definitely lean to square watches these days. I'm not a fan of timex, but their Grid and command watches have caught my eye for sheer size and squarenessssss
My grandfather wore this watch since I was a child all the way up until he died. I then got the watch and I've been wearing it every day. It's a hard, durable watch for men who work just like my grandfather and myself. If you're a tradesmen or a man who works jobs that destroy clothing from dirt and sweat, then nothing is better, especially since I can just run the damn thing under some water a few seconds while washing my own hands.
I purchased a G-Shock Tough Solar, Wave Ceptor, 20-Bar Water Resistant, CASIO model GW-5600J in early 2004. I wore it continuously for at least 14 years, working at an automotive manufacturing plant as an industrial electrician. I used to tease my father who had a Rolex Day-Date by saying I had the better watch as it was more accurate and has many more functions "complications". I still have it and wear it when out on thermal imaging jobs in manufacturing facilities! Everything on the time piece still works yet there are scratches on the crystal, dings in the band, and the little sleeve that retains the extra band length broke off, so I just trimmed the band so the extra length past the buckle doesn't hang out. (can I get a new band for it?) I think I paid about $40 for it at a Sears store, 2004. Talk about quality and durability!
The 1200 is hard to beat. I quite like the ae1500, but its a round face and theres something retro and nice about a square face with the complications. I actually wish they would make a large AE1200WH. So lucky to live in Japan, home of Casio!
Great video. I like the informational content and the way you present your opinion of Casio watches. It's shameful to admit publicly but I daily wear (it's the only watch I own currently) an F-91W that I've had for over 3 years (They sell these Casios in NC state prisons which is where I got it) A friend that lived in my block/dorm noticed that my wrist was pale from wearing a watch before I was incarcerated and so he bought it for me. Still keeps perfect time to this day. Thanks for the info.
This thing is my daily beater. The alarm is loud and easy to hear and the amber LEDs provide perfect eye-friendly LCD lighting for when it's dark. The 5 Alarms, world time and the sexy analog dial in the corner, really makes this watch an absolute bang for the buck. Especially since it's not too big but just the right size. If you give it a self-adhesive protection glass upgrade, this will protect the watch face from scratching too fast since it's just plastic.
I don't know about that exact watch, but Casio is definitely greatest watch maker of all time. Can't go wrong with Casio. They offer so much for so little, a dream brand.
Really love this review and the honest take on the benefits of quartz! Am I sensing a change in the air in the watch world? Teddy Baldassarre also just a vid on quartz vs mechanical where he laid out the advantages pretty bluntly. I completely agree that quartz really made timekeeping something for the masses, and it's refreshing to see it discussed so openly - I had an F91W when I was about 9 or 10. Imagine giving a 9-year a $300,000 Patek Philippe ;) Another watch to consider - at a slightly higher price point - is the G-LIDE series. I've recently picked up a GBX100 and just love it. It has a negative display but one that is larger and far more legible than the typical negatives on the rest of the Casio lineup. Even if you don't use the tide functions (which I have no use for), the rest of the basic time/stopwatch/alarm features make it a great piece.
The watch world has been well aware of the advantages of quartz since the late 70s. Mechanical watches survived the quartz crisis of the 80s. Mechanical watchmaking is stronger in 2022 (despite quartz, solar, and smart watches) than ever.
The physical tick and audible click help me remember the time. Maybe you watch enthusiasts don’t have that problem very much, forgetting to check your watch.
I used W-S800H, for diving, climbed Rinjani to its peak, etc. And, just gone when I used toilet in a gas station. :( Bought the 2nd one, the resin strap variation, lasted only for 1 month, gone again. Now, stick to W-800H. Simple, large display. I wear it everywhere, for swimming, etc. Reliable, cheap, durable, light, long lasting battery. Fit nicely on my wrist. Not too big.
Ur intro is literally me. As a kid i grew up seeing my dad with casio, infatuated with the backlight and my uncle having the casio calculator watch and as i became a teenager i didnt care about watches until i got older and got back into watches because of mechanical watches. Theres not one mechanical watch i own that doesnt have an open back because that was the most important feature for me on a mechanical apart from a beautiful dial. I sticked with seikos other than the presidential rectangle bulova (idk the reference number of the top of my head) but recently have been loving the g shocks i already had and started really realizing how much u can do with casio watches. I love them
So by this logic I think you could make a stronger case for the G-Shock GMW5610-1 being the perfect watch. Price is the only area where it loses to the Royale, but at a little over $100 you get all the features of the Royale, plus 200 meters of water resistance, solar recharging, automatic synching with the atomic clock, plus G-Shock’s legendary durability.
@@GraveUypo Solar power and atomic time keeping, aren’t “useless features”. Never needing a new battery, and keeping time accurate down to +/- 1 second in 100 million years. Atomic time keeping means basically perfect accuracy. Also, one can say that the watch in b the video is full of “useless features.”, and “watches are stupid, I can tell the time on my phone”. It really just comes down to preferences. Besides, Casio built their rep on durable, accurate watches, with great features.
@@JoannaJedrzejczyksForehead "Never needing a new battery". You are wrong. The solar watches have a battery. What do you do when the battery dies? Can you replace it?
I used to travel a lot - 65 times to Japan, among several other countries, as an example. Back in the mid-80s I had a Casio that had almost 1,600 words and phrases in 6 different languages. Sadly, I was in a canoe with a brother-in-law at a family reunion. He got into a friendly fight with some nephews in another canoe and tipped over the canoe.
@@LakeSideSound It happened more than 30 years ago. It was a Casio. A friend who found it at the Consumer Electronics show gifted me. I have searched for it every few years without success. I used to travel extensively - Japan 65 times, Korea 51 times, once to Mexico but uncountable times to Canada and several trips across the pond to various countries.
Love Casio. If I had to stick with just one watch for the rest of my days it would be a digital (non-smart) ProTrek. Perfect tool watch and doesn't look too bad either.
Yup, I have my titanium Protrek (dual analog/digital dial, solar, atomic) for 20 + years now and I never have to service it or adjust it and the original battery is still 100% full (I left it next to the window for years).
Wore an F91 before I got an Apple Watch Series 1 for testing. After 7 years of “testing”, the screen popped off because the battery got bloated. Found the F91 still working perfectly and are still using it daily. Other than telling me the temperature, it does exactly everything I want my watch to do. It’s light, robust, cheap, proper battery life, tells the time and date.
I absolutely agree. My AE1300WH-1A2 I estimate to be more than a decade and a half already, more or less. I owned it when I was still a student. Now I'm a dad of two. It has accompanied me in all my vacations - in the sun, sand, and sea. Very tough and reliable, scratches and all.
Great work, Dave. The production level and content of your videos just keeps getting better. I love my Casio Royale. Before the Vario strap came on the market, I learned to do a quick mod of a Barton Elite Silicone 24mm strap to cut 'tabs' out of the lug ends. Now I have a bespoke strap for my '1200 that is infinitely more pleasant to wear than the stock strap.
Thanks Garth! I'll have to play around a bit more with strap modifications for watches like this. I tried once on an old leather strap, and the results were pretty bad. I probably need to invest in a good exacto blade or something before trying again!
@@JusttheWatch Indeed, you may have some single edged razor blades around the shop for striping/cleaning flat surfaces. I find the wide edge helps to line up a clean edge just by pressing down. Four quick nicks and you're done with the easiest watch mod ever. Cheers.
I have one, I've had it for so long that I've actually USED UP that 10 year battery it has and replaced it (by myself, it was actually easy). It's water-resistant, has a built in light for when it's dark, is sturdy, and has survived multiple high-intensity jobs I've been in such as warehouse associate moving boxes and maintenance technician repairing old machines, hitting it against boxes and getting it dirty.
I'm not a watch guy, I have no interest in being a watch guy, but, the royale is one of two watches I own, the other was the F-91W. I think you're definitely on to something if a non-watch person evaluates the market and decides the only thing more worth an F-91W is the Royale. This thing absolutely rocks and I'll be picking up a leather wrist band for it now that I know they exist.
If you really want to go crazy there's a company making full metal cases with scratch proof sapphire crystals for it as well. It's not cheap, but it's pretty cool. I've got a few in that I'm working on reviewing. They're from a company called SKXmod if you're interested.
I was looking for a new Casio watch after my MW-240, for the first time taking also digital ones into consideration. Loved the AE-1200wh on first sight, bought it after watching your review. Thanks!
I bought this watch about a year ago for $16.50 on Amazon, and it is the best watch for the money, you can buy. My main complaint would be the plastic crystal, that scratches easily. Many websites claim this model has a mineral crystal. I did buy some screen protectors for the crystal, but I couldn't find and tempered glass versions. Ever since I bought my Steeldive SD1970, that has been my daily watch, and my Casio AE1200 has sat on the bedside table. Automatic watches are almost as needy as smartwatches, and need to be worn almost daily to keep running. The SD1970 has the advantage of being hard to damage, with its ceramic bezel and sapphire crystal. I also have a couple of tungsten and sapphire watches that can be warn daily, and keep looking like brand new, for many years. Unfortunately, they need battery changes every few years.
Buy some poly watch or any kind of proprietary brass or chrome polisher. Even car paint restorer. Use Q Tips and cotton pads. The crystal will look like new. The Steeldive 1970, even as a Seiko homage, is still an absolute legend. Wouldn't be without one. I'm with you pal. 👍
This one still hurts, i bought it but just didn't feel anything from it, but then i gave it to a friend and it's become his favorite watch so I'm glad someone got to enjoy it as it should be enjoyed
Mine finally came in the mail three Days ago and I've got to say, I am loving this thing! Twelve bucks extra ($36) for a green case & nylon/faux leather strap well spent. This thing is great for just about any wear case, it will be complimenting my white Gshock that I've had for years now, it had been feeling too bulky recently while being out of place at my job. I'll be picking up another one of these eventually.
I bought this watch back in 2018 at a store without knowing anything about it and put it in a nato strap and after all these years it's still with me. I bought other watches and in fact Im not using it right now but its still with me, it has something, theres no doubt about it.
I wore Made in Japan Casio digital watches with analog hands throughout high school back in the 90's. They were very accurate and fairly reliable watches, but the straps would only last 2 to 3 years, and they would break. The genuine Casio straps are not cheap and they would cost around 15 to 20 dollars to replace. The face of the watch was made out of a very scratchable plastic. Also, after two battery changes, the watch wouldn't be water resistant anymore. In my opinion, Citizen Eco-Drive watches with a metal bands are the best affordable watches ever made! Current (made within the past several years) Citizen Eco-Drive batteries are designed to last 40 years before it needs to be replaced!! Eco-Drive watches uses sunlight to charge its batteries. My Citizen watch cost me 200 dollars, so the cost per wear each year is only 5 dollars. The water resistant rating is 200 metres which is amazing for a dressy sporty watch that isn't a Diver's watch. These Citizen metal straps are rock solid and they don't break like plastic/rubber straps!
This watch may well be the best value watch on the market. Another great one is the Casio AE1500 with the gigantic display or for a bit more the G-Shock square GM5610 with the solar power and atomic time keeping - a watch that maintains itself for under 100 bucks.
I think the GM5610 is undoubtedly the greatest watch ever made -- though it's a bit expensive if you live in a location that can't get the atomic timekeeping.
@@M0WWS I guess we don't need to be too obsessive to the accuracy of a quartz watch. By design, the accuracy of a quartz, even at lower price point, is already outstanding, particularly in compare with mechanical watch. Having atomic feature can't make it more "accuracy" but only make the adjustment very frequently, i.e. 3 times a day with the signal. If you do the adjustment manually as frequently as that, the "accuracy" would be the same. BTW, quartz watch is composed of electronics which would wear out sometimes eventually, just a matter of time.
Dave is spot-on when he talks about the "Quartz revolution" as opposed to the automatic/mechanical snobs who call it a "Quartz crisis", simply because it is hard for them to accept the fact that their over-engineered, overpriced Swiss dick extensions have been outperformed by inexpensive, innovative Japanese electronics.
I just got a Royale and its awesome. I watch a hell of a lot of English football (soccer), so I like to know UK time as well as my home east coast Australia time. So much so i just ordered a Casio AW48HE-1A ani-digi for dual time purposes and that wicked retro look!
The Apple watch doesnt even belong in this category, its technically a full blown portable computer in comparison, like a cell phone without the phone part.
Nice looking watch, but like so many other Casios, non swappable MM-DD format is a deal killer. It's a shame Casio keeps ignoring something that simple.
Mine is at -4 sec after more than 6 months. After 10 years I wouldn't even be 1.5 minutes late. Makes you question why you should even bother with more expensive pieces using atomic sync.
Aesthetics and tough movement are really the only justifications. I definitely prefer how a Casio Oceanus looks. And it has the same protections as a G-Shock.
This watch is an amazing and versatile and durable watch. I've had 2 of them and just bought another one for 21 USD. When my job requires a lot of travel, this is a daily watch. I'm not a huge fan of the 91W. The world time is a huge help and the multiple alarms as well. It just works.
There's a misconception regarding "smart watches", they are not watches. A smart watch is an electronic device that only _displays_ a watch on its screen. A smart watch is as much of a watch as a mobile phone *or a laptop* is a watch...
I'm one of those "old Guys" (66 years old) who was taught back when he was young that there are 3 things you need to carry at all times when you work for someone. Those being: a pen/pencil, a pocket knife, and a watch (I know most people these days don't usually have any of those items on them, LOL). The pen/pencil for when you need to make a list/sign something/draw with/etc, the pocket knife for cutting things (naturally), and the watch because when you are being paid by the hour, you need to be able to tell when you started the job and when you finish or when the end of your shift is. I used to wear a Casio G-Shock for a long time but didn't use the Functions and didn't really like the digital watch face. So for the last couple of years, I've just been wearing a cheap analog face Casio and that's all I need, so I'm happy with it. Now my Son has given me an Apple 8 Smart Watch to go along with the I-Phone he gave me a couple of months ago and I'm trying to get used to the Apple watch (and phone). While it does have a ton of different uses, in the end all I want is a watch that will let me know the time, which the Casio did really well. Plus, like you say, with the Casio I don't have to work about hitting the face on something and shattering it or what I may put my hand in while out in the garage nor does it have to be charged up everyday.
I have a veery similar Casio g-shock myself the GW5610. it is both Solar and radio controlled. Paid 90 USD, have it for some 8 years now and it's there doing it's thing no worries. No battery changes ever, nor correcting the time on it, it does it every night picking up the hour from the radio waves.... super cool. Recommended!!
Thanks to your video I lately remembered I'm now a proud owner of the AE-1200Ws sister, the AE-1000W. It looks simply fantastic. I'm already very sure that this watch will be my best friend for a long, long time
So this is my first time on watch TH-cam. Got this recommended out of absolutely nowhere. Just want to say that I bought this exact watch from Walmart when I was like 10 and I loved it. That little world map in the corner was the coolest thing on Earth. Pretty sure I ultimately lost it at the beach or something. Totally forgot about that experience so thanks for the unexpected reminder.
I bought the Casio Royale as a joke because a friend has just bought the Omega James Bond watch but I am really impressed, it is a comfortable fun watch, very practical and I will be wearing it a lot.
I have often looked at watches with their various degrees of asking prices and the prevailing question that comes to mind is, "why is that watch so expensive ?" When you see watches in the store display cases they are presented more as a piece of jewelry than merely a time keeping device [a watch]. A 'cheaper' watch has a band. The 'pricey' watch has a bracelet. I bought 2 "Royales", the WH- all black and the WHD- stainless. The black is for work and the stainless is for casual. Both totaled roughly 50 Bucks. I could go on but this gentleman said it best. Yup it's the GOAT ! $300 THOUSAND ??!! That's a HOUSE ! I digress.
Guys, I made a new Royale T-Shirt! Check it out here: justthewatch.com/products/the-royale-t
How about doing the calculator watches?
Casio do have Radio Controlled watches which switches your time automatically. It should say Dual Band 6 or something on those watches
I literally had a Q&Q knockoff of this Casio....only to find it in the Casio brochure for about 50x the price....

I'm 76 years old and bought this watch, I love it. Since it has a ten year battery there's a good chance it may outlive me. I did buy a green canvas band to go with the green watch. I love the fact that I don't have to change batteries for the rest of my life.😁

I have had no problems with the bracelet. The light weight makes it the most comfortable one I own imo.
*without losing any armchairs .. LMAO... That silver bracelet version is 🔥 though.

I got this one, the price has gone up a little, but still. You are absolutely right. I love mechanical watches, I even own a luxury watch, but this truly makes everything else feel obsolete by comparison. This watch is comfortable and staggeringly functional.
Would you recommend buying this watch still?
@@SvendeKinkelder yeah of course
I like mechanical watches but only simple ones that basically just tell the time, analogue watches become very hard to read at a glance very quickly once you start adding extra features.
If i want features i use my fully digital watch
I'm a watch guy, had a few expensive Swiss timepieces ... but Casio has a special place in my heart, my first watch was a Casio ae-30w, still working today after more than 30 years, only the band had to be changed after it fell apart.

I would not buy that you are really a "watch guy" (or "car guy," etc.) if you could not talk about great products at all price points!
Comparing a twenty buck watch to a $300,000 watch. Got to love this guy.

True watch enthusiasts have nothing bad to say to Casio. Only some attention-starved, rich-ass wannabe dudes would say what you said.
agreed, Casio brand is not less respectable than Rolex...
My wife bought me the 1200WH for Christmas after me dropping MASSIVE hints for ages. I thought she'd stopped paying attention, so when I opened my present just over a year ago, she was astonished about how made up I was! I'm wearing it as I'm watching you're video. Hey Dave! Solution for DST in other time zones. Just scroll over to whichever one you want DST on and hit adjust. You can toggle DST on and off this way just as would with your main time zone. The adjust feature works the same way in different time zones that you set.
It’s always been Daylight SAVING Time now. Mandela Effect.
That's how you start collecting watches lol
That's cool to hear. I've been thinking about getting one of their straps. I have a Royale but I hate the strap and hardly ever wear it.
Same here. I saw it on your video, Shane, and immediately bought one.
Agree with Starbucks comment and solar would be awesome. But hey 10 year battery life not so bad.
It's amazing how these things will just keep going. Iconic, affordable, reliable. Absolutely love it. The definition of utilitarian ❤
Damn, sincere, straight to the point yet thorough. This is how a review is done, thank you! Greetings from México!
Going for a W-217h now hehe
I feel the same about my Casio Gshock GW5610 with solar and multi band time setting. I put it on a retro black metal set and find it a perfect "grab and go" watch. If I bang it up, just looks more "retro". True, I have $150 invested but. It is more durable, more water resistant, sets itself daily and is a classic design. Love it!
I have one too with the reverse display. It’s a perfect watch for working in.
I feel the same about the 5610. I put mine on a combi and it just disappears on the wrist but is ready for action at all times.
Ordered one yesterday. Greetings from Germany.
Agreed. The 5610 is the ultimate worry-free grab-n-go do-anything watch.
But it's $140 not $100
@@furzkram Agree, sent mine back. Buttons far too fiddly and awkward.
I love how absolutely maintenance free it is. You can wear it literally for 10 years and never change the battery or set it up.
W-201 is like 91 but with recessed buttons so it doesn't change mode by itself
Wearing this exact watch right now and saw this video pop up lol. Greatness
From functional perspective, this watch is cheap, practically indestructible, reliable, accurate. Definitely a great watch.
So happy to be Dave complimenting more Casios :)
I watched this video today and I decided to wear my Casio Royale today
This has been my favorite watch for the past 5 years now. Amazingly I still have my second one I use for work daily, though it's a bit rough looking now. So far battery is holding true as well. I loved the design of this Casio watch since I first saw it as a little kid shortly around the similar timeline it was a new kind.
Actually find myself wearing my 5600 G-shock more than my Royale. Still love the Royale but it doesn't get much wrist time - might when I travel to Europe next year.
But great arguments on why it is arguably the greatest watch.
True. My 5600 G-shock is my daily grab and go, SHTF watch. Gets much more wrist time than my “referee” casio.
Love it because it wasn't as bulky like any other G-Shock.
Their version of the F91W is actually nicer than the original and comes with electroluminescent lighting.
you should check out the Casio f105. that's basically the f91 but with backlight
Get a casio w86, is better in every way
I have this watch 14 years ago, the battery does last over 10 years and it was as tough as G-Shock! I have mine every day exposed to sun and rain as I riding motorcycle daily and also got in couple of motorcycle accidents along the way, it survive! It's now at my personal museum collection with broken glass and cracked body but the battery still faddily alive!
My motorcycle didn't survive sadly..

I am falling in love with Casio watches and wearing a different one each day. Almost have a different one for each day of the week now. Might have to pick this Royale up.

Definitely one of my favorite Casios. Anyone getting it should also consider the strap adapters by Jays and Kays.

Noooo, please no round faced watches
Yes, of course you can get a new band. They are not the easiest to replace, though, but don't give up. ;)
If you give it a self-adhesive protection glass upgrade, this will protect the watch face from scratching too fast since it's just plastic.
just bought this today and got this video in my recc, its in my hand and is exactly what ive looked for in a classy watch. hella happy!!
I don't know about that exact watch, but Casio is definitely greatest watch maker of all time. Can't go wrong with Casio. They offer so much for so little, a dream brand.
Its fantastic! On the bracelet it actuallly works well with a suit and I get a lot of compliments!
@hoi hoi every watch, regardless mechanical or digital, when it reached its owner, it started its story with owner and has soul since then.
That's like comparing paintings with fotos.
The physical tick and audible click help me remember the time. Maybe you watch enthusiasts don’t have that problem very much, forgetting to check your watch.
I used W-S800H, for diving, climbed Rinjani to its peak, etc. And, just gone when I used toilet in a gas station. :(
Bought the 2nd one, the resin strap variation, lasted only for 1 month, gone again.
Price is the only area where it loses to the Royale, but at a little over $100 you get all the features of the Royale, plus 200 meters of water resistance, solar recharging, automatic synching with the atomic clock, plus G-Shock’s legendary durability.
that's better why? 5 times as expensive for a bunch of literally useless extra features.
@@GraveUypoight? Durability, bro just buy a new one or don't do stupid shit with a watch on 😂
The GW7900B is superior to the 5610. All the features with atomic and solar, with both moon and tide phases. $97 on Amazon.
What was the watch model?
Because of import duty on foreign watches, all these watches are 18% more expensive, but had to get this one. Great vid.
Casios are amazing. I have one of these as my daily driver, a Casio analog watch and a gold Casio digital if I want to get fancy lol.
Wow 15 to 20 dollars is a lot of money to replace a casio strap
Especially if it lasts only 3 years, what a laugh you've given me, hahaha,
This watch may well be the best value watch on the market.
@@RandomGoodness1234 It is mind boggling value. Solar/atomic Casios are insanely awesome.
Hahaha i like this… insane elitists are insufferable
I just got a Royale and its awesome. I watch a hell of a lot of English football (soccer), so I like to know UK time as well as my home east coast Australia time. So much so i just ordered a Casio AW48HE-1A ani-digi for dual time purposes and that wicked retro look!
Bought mine yesterday as an impulse purchase and boy am I glad I bought it. It’s everything this guy says it is
The Apple watch doesnt even belong in this category, its technically a full blown portable computer in comparison, like a cell phone without the phone part.
Nice looking watch, but like so many other Casios, non swappable MM-DD format is a deal killer. It's a shame Casio keeps ignoring something that simple.
I just realised this and surprised I didn't notice it or bothered by it, but now it seems odd
I'm already very sure that this watch will be my best friend for a long, long time
Casio: The Toyota of the watch world. Everyone’s had one and they’re near indestructible.
The best and most honest review I've ever seen about watches!! He's so right!!!
Casio was and Casio is, the 4Runner of Watches around the world. Thanks Japan 🇯🇵👍🏼👍🏼
Sending blessings from London Ontario 🇨🇦
I digress.
Been wearing this watch for a few years now so it's cool to see this video pop up on my feed
Hey! I've not worn a watch for 20+ years and you've even got me tempted!
