I thought spending $150 modding my $25 Casio Royale was crazy. But I did it, and I now have a watch that looks and feels way better. And has a sapphire crystal. I highly recommend it to any watch person. Just don’t tell anyone how much you spend. 🤭
That polished gold one is bonkers. As someone else has observed, it looks like C3PO. My favourite of the lot is the bead-blasted steel one - looks very much a tool watch and very classy too.
Totally C3PO... The Time Bum did a "completely dark side" Darth Vader Mod, all black. Did anyone do an R2 mod, in white and blue? Or, a Rebel Alliance?
Just bought my 4th Casio AE1200/1300 from SKX Mods. I built my first 3 but went with the ‘Build #12’ all matte black AE1300 and got a black sterile titanium backing plate and oiled leather strap with matte buckle to go with it. It’s almost exactly the stealth black one you built. The quality of these kits are amazing and I have amassed a collection of these Casios and I hardly wear my more expensive mechanical watches. I have Jays and Kay’s lug adapters on them so I can use my huge collection of 22mm straps and I get tons of compliments on all of them. I never thought I could love a cheap little Casio this much but here we are. 🤣
I feel your pain. I bought a SKXMOD Kit for my A168 and my F105W, and I am watching this video (again) because I’m about to purchase a AE1200 Kit. For the sake my marriage I’m hoping I can control myself and just get one… ok maybe two…. Ah hell, who needs to be married anyway?!
I can’t believe you convinced me (at the end) that spending $150 to mod a $20 watch is a good idea, or even makes sense, but you did. Well done, sir. Well done.
My wife said the exact same thing, that's hilarious😂. I sent a pic of the mod in a text and told her I was about to buy it, and she sent me back a pic of C3PO. I got the silver instead.
I've done too many of these. I did my 1600, almost the same as yours, but with grey instead of black bezel. I was surprised by how much I like the polished silver version, but I put it on the original version brushed silver bracelet so it has some but not as much shiny bling. The polished may be my favorite but not in the polished bracelet. I don't have a bronze watch, but that bronze one you did really does look sharp and perfect with the black rubber strap. The bracelet upgrades are nice, allowing for quick changes, but my new black bracelet was missing the quick release spring bar on one side. SKXMOD just sent me some quick release spring bars to add to the missing side. However, since the replacement bars have the release pin(tiny) not screwed in and installed, it has so far been impossible to repair having to screw the tiny pin into a small spring bar that moves.
That's good to hear. I have the Royale, in silver, and imo, the design is about perfect, except.. The silver wears off of the resin case.. So, replacement polished case, with black bezel, is drawing me in. The other issue is, living in the UK, the "timezone" indicator shows "black on a slightly less black background", so the module with the green-coloured land masses looks clever..
That hint on turning screws backwards until you feel threads line up is the same for crowns. Turn your screw-down crown backward until you feel the click then tighten clockwise. Will save wear on threads.
I did the same bronze case and black rubber strap mod about a year ago. I love it. I’m glad to hear they upgraded the bracelet. Time to place another order.
Ingenious how this company found that segment where they can do something different for the fans of those specific models. It's like modding your cheap yet extremely useful Swiss Army Knife with titanium/brass/copper/G10/exotic wood scales, or damascus blade, or what so ever. You would not have a more useful knife or watch at the end, but it will be one off which is only yours, and you can live your DIY fantasy as well. I'm just saying it because lot of people says why modding and spending so much money on a 20-40$ watch/knife.... and I say why not? Bottomline: I have a(n almost) stock W-800 (with bungee strap and screenportector) and I love the snooze function of it. This is the only thing I miss from the AE1200 Casio Royale, I wish it would have snooze function as well... I really find it useful. 😔
Thanks for another informative and inspiring video. This takes me back to the time I modified my Casio DW5600-E with a metal case and bracelet a few years ago.
I've just acquired a Casio Royale this weekend for £22GBP. An absolute steal. I've been aware of SKXMod for some time I think largely due to a previous video you did. I can't decide what case finish/material to go with though so this video gave me plenty to think about. Great video as always, Shane 👍
The upgraded bracelet almost makes me want to try one of these (though I wish they'd make an A158/168 kit). The gold & red one works surprisingly well. The polished cases would look great with that negative display, as would the red on black.
one of my favourite Royale Review videos ever, and some cool mods. I really love the 1600, and with the orange strap it just stands out and looks so good :) I do like the white face modded with the red filter, If I was working as a K9 officer I would probably go for that one. as well as the 1600 brushed. I do like the stealth mod, but right now I do not like the negative displays, I have a few negative displays on some good Casios, but over time they are my less worn watches and now only truly wear for night time and protection work. Those rubber straps look very similar to the CASIO OAK straps which are also very comfortable to wear too. They made a wise choice going to Titanium backs, would love to see a brushed camo back and strap/case too.
Love the bronze case and agree that it matches well with the black rubber strap. I reckon I'd be even more tempted if there were a bronze bracelet available to go with it, although I imagine that would bump the cost up significantly...
Youve done a great job there! I agree that the bronze one stands out, it's definitely unique. I've just discovered this modding scene and I love my casios! I'll definitely be trying this on my a1200 and possibly something with my f91w. Thanks for a fantastic video 👍
I really enjoyed this video Shane. The gold mod was a bit too gaudy for my taste and the negative display would drive me insane but the others are cool. I modded 2 using SKX mod parts but I will now upgrade them further with the new colours of backlights which look cool. Thanks for an awesome video
I'm (part-ly) lost... Cheers Shane, good you kept your sanity after all... these! PS The "screw" tip works for everything that... tries to screw you. A back(wards) swing, gets them all in place. Screw you screws!😋
Every time watch one of your videos I come up with new ways to spend money that I shouldn't be spending on watches. I obsessed all weekend about the A1200 Royal, and used their design app to see the combinations possible, and just when Id narrowed it down to three likely candidates, I find this 1600 which I never knew about, and like THAT one better because the time and date display is larger. Im 56 years old and my eyesight isnt getting any better, and without glasses, its tough to see that small digital markings. I'm probably gonna do a 1600 with a new case and band mod now.
that black one with negative display + hydro mod to improve visibility - might be me ultimate dream watch mod, which would not take less than 1,5years, as I have not done one hydro mod yet (planing go experiment with cheap Casio I have in few months, once I find right silicon oil I could obtain in my location).. Will ponder on that for next few months :D thanks for awesome video!

Might be best to ask them directly if it does, or if they have one that will.
Stupid Question. Do you need to install the inner faceplate? I am kind of liking the way the module looks naked (AE1200). Will if fit correctly without it or will I damage the module? Thanks in advance for any responses.
That's a good question... I'll have to ask SKX mod. My guess is that you should. Otherwise there might be a little bit of wiggle room for the module to move back and forth. Although you can always try it and then if you don't hear it or see it moving, it's probably okay. Another option is the clear faceplate.
It is pretty blingy. I've come to really love the bronze one. Got a touch of bling, but as the patina develops it's not quite as loud. Only downside is the lack of a bracelet, but that's typical with bronze.
I really have to start writing that down, because every time someone asks I got to watch and look really close. Anyway, in this one I'm actually wearing two different watches. Even though I'm wearing the same shirt, I filmed it over a couple days. In the intro, it looks like I'm wearing my white Seiko Alpinist. In another shot, I'm wearing a previously modded Royale.
I'd like to see a replacement faceplate that just removes the 5 ALARMS and WR100M. The 10 YEAR BATTERY adds a dash of color that I don't mind. I suppose they might have to remove CASIO as well. The rest of the text is useful. As for the mods, they all look great, but which combinations work is a matter of personal taste.
I did it with mineral oil and it greatly improves clarity. I imagine it is much more water resistant than 100 m as well. It took about 5 or 10 minutes.
I don't want completely sterile, I like useful markings... I don't want advertising like "10 year battery" and "world time" etc. But ticks around the time and labelled buttons is functional.
Most other 200 dollar quartz watches have a 20-30 movement in it anyway right.........Even automatic movements are just a fraction of a decent watch price. I don't get the issue with people. It's jewelry.....that tells you what time it is.
I understand skxmod is a different manufacturer, not a part of Casio. So if we replace everything, including the module, then it won't be an authentic Casio watch anymore!😂

Sure it is. Still looks and acts like one, just with a nicer tougher exterior. CASIO sells a number of watches at this price range and some with metal cases even higher.
TOO EXPENSIVE 🤣
