Thing is Ubisoft's lineup was pretty much all games that had been shown before, sequels, or were pretty similar to other properties and they talked a bunch. Sony had a big VR lineup in anticipation for the PSVR coming out in October and didn't talk about it at all just showed small highlights and trailers that made very little sense. Two extremes on either end of the spectrum that should've met closer to the middle.
I gotta agree with you there. I'd be nice if they dragged someone out on stage and showed them working through one of these vr things. That being said, most of what sony had to show was exclusives, and nary a mention of the extraneous crap we don't care about. I think the best thing about this year was the fact microsoft and sony both knew what we wanted and didn't screw around with crap we didn't care about. There was no clear "winner". Except the division. God, microsoft could have done with skipping that section. What a waste.
Oh, and that cringe compilation that was the sea of thieves demonstration. I'm sure microsoft thought they were being hip by including it, but all it made me want to do was mute the feed.

I'll just throw in a dissenting comment here and say that I loved this stream. Their reactions seemed genuine and not driven by fanboyish, childish attitudes. It's cool to like video games, it's another thing to say that people who don't lap up everything that companies produce are ignorant. You're free to hold your opinion as they are free to have theirs - Giant Bomb is a website based on and around the personalities of the people that work there. A lot of GB fans appreciate the commentary of the team, and that's who this is for. If you want EZA to forcefeed yelling like children down your throats whenever something good is shown off you are more than welcome to want it, but don't assume that your interests line up with the ones that people watching this live care for.
That's what happens when you try to say that maybe the PS4 and it's games maybe aren't as amazing as the drones would have you believe. All the people questioning if they actually like games, especially Jeff who literally lives for games just because they're weren't excited about something.
I honestly think this was the best E3 conference. No PR bs just games. This isn't an investor meeting and players don't care about plans for the future or empty hype talk. That's why I'm surprised the Giant Bomb guys wanted more talking and explaining and were generally more on the negative side. I didn't like that stuff
I play on PC and PS4 so the only conference I have seen, but if this was the best the rest must have been dire, it wasn't anything special but at least they showcased a few exclusives and let the games be shown rather than interrupting it with inane waffle.
I actually enjoy seeing the devs come out and talk about their game. It gives me a some what personal feeling and I think letting people who have been working on their come out and talk is awesome! It's just a mater of talking for the right amount of time. Some just go on way too much.
I love all the GiantBomb quick looks and such. However, I do feel a huge disconect when it comes to expectations and reactions to conferences. For me, Sony's last two E3 showings have been as good as it gets. I guess it's all opinions.

JAG LeMans what you don't get is its an event made to market gaming, platform or games. Companies are willing to lie at these events. Gaming journalists know this more than most. So they're more realistic in their expectations and aren't in it for the hype factor like most fanboys are.
What's with all the negativity about Crash Bandicoot? Didn't Shaun Layden say that it would be the original 3 games built from the ground up for PS4? I'm expecting those games, with visual fidelity of the most recent Ratchet and Clank, and that to me sounds pretty awesome. Ratchet and Clank PS4 is a remake, and the reception has been very positive, but if Crash does it, people shit on the idea? I don't get it.
I've been listening to GB for a few years now, and I still confused and surprised as to what they get hyped about and wurst they're down on. They seems to really like Nintendo nostalgia, but nit really the Sony ones. They seem okay with some Xbox ones. For the most part I would consider GB to be fans of: PC/Nintendo and then Xbox/Sony.
Another year, another GB video of the crew talking over Sony's conference and again, coincidentally, getting disliked for not getting on their knees and saying that everything looks amazing. Funny how in every other video of this type the like/dislike ratio is very positive, but in these specific videos they get called cynics and video game haters. :) ...inb4 the fanboys rush to dislike the other videos as well
I dont agree with the view that there should have been a person on stage explaining things for VR, i have never been more excited to watch an e3 press conference than the sony's one, i was very impressed. it was amazing and i think it was a conference for gamers like me who are hungry for new IPs from sony and see great games. There is a message behind this sony conference and it was that they are gonna cater to the gamer cuz it has worked out really well for the ps4. It was kinda weird to have you guys be so critical and it kinda makes me wonder if the disconnect between journalist and normal gamers is widening. Don't get me wrong and feel like i dont like you guys, i love listening to the beastcast and i have so much fun cuz of you guys.

I feel like I'm in the same position as you, wanting new IPs and great games... and that's exactly why I wasn't that impressed with Sony (it was still a good conference, just not much more than that). 1 of those games actually has a release date, the rest are in development. It's very possible by the next E3 only Last Guardian has actually come out (of the big exclusives at least). I am hungry for games, so I don't want to see what I can play 1 year or 2 years or longer from now, I want to know what I can play in the coming months. Microsoft actually showed games I'll be playing this year (Gears, Recore, Dead Rising, Forza, Halo Wars), Sony showed all of 1. And one of the best options they could have shown that is supposed to be coming soon (No Man's Sky) they couldn't because people are so sick of waiting for it. And the one that is actually coming this year is infamous for taking so long to actually come out. What's to say these new games won't have the same thing happen? When these games do come sure, I'll get excited and I bet most of what Sony showed will end up being fantastic, but for now I'd much rather focus on things I'll actually get to play soon.

Btw square enix has delayed Neir from 2016 to early 2017 cuz there are too many games late 2016 that would compete with it. I am very happy with late 2016 multiplatform games and hope that the tomorrow children and other sony titles will make it a good 2016. Kinda glad sony games aren't coming late 2016 cuz there are already a lot of games i want to buy and i cant afford to buy most of them. I can save my money cuz sony is taking time. It happens, especially when you've known each other for as long as these guys have. They trust each other's opinions and are willing to be wrong. It's a natural human trait. For example: Saw the new Star Wars movie with a couple of friends, and after some discussion we all agreed we didn't like it. Weeks later I re-watched it alone and realized I actually did enjoy it. Now that's the opinion I hold. Even though my friends and I disagree, I now know for sure how I feel about it. Truth is, opinions are fluid and affected by those we trust. Movies, music, games, even politics - it takes time and experience to really determine how we feel about something. What we're seeing here is that very process. Most journalists don't show things like this because it makes them seem changeable, but nearly every one of them has these conversations before they solidify their opinion and publicize it.

Information about the nature of the God of War, including them confirmed that it is NOT open world was confirmed in an interview straight after the show and as a result has appeared everywhere. All major basic questions about the nature of the games revealed were answered in interviews in the 24 hours following, they didn't need to have people come out and explain it all here. That would just bog down the pace of the show.
dude first of all you could clearly see that in the gameplay god of war not being open world. plus days gone u could see the similarity to the last of us in the cinematic trailer which was good but then the gameplay made it awesome cuz there is SO MANY zombies chasing you at once and they are all running ones its a lot more tension then dead rising.
when they show you a new Spidetman game and they are just talking if it's exclusive or not and when they surprise everyone when they announced Batman VR, they say it doesn't look like a game. what a shitty group of guys

What I like about GiantBomb is that they don't buy into hype or into console wars or fandoms. It used to be cool to hate Sony and love Microsoft and now it's reversed over the last couple years. Sony had a really good showing but I don't think they deserve all the outright craze and fandom they receive. Just like I don't think Microsoft deserves all the hate they receive. Everyone online portrays just one out of two extremes, either outright love or hatred. If you think a game just looks "okay" then you're boring and or jaded. Giant Bomb provides a grounded perspective into the industry while everyone else jumps on hype trains for games that arn't even shipping for at least a couple of years.

About Horizon and the speaking over: In The Witcher 3, Geralt was doing the exact same thing. Talking to himself about recent things or events that just are happening. And to the guy on the far right, don't try to be funny on purpose, it comes off as unfunny and disruptive commentary. I don't mind watching a conference with a lot of commentary, but if it's stuff like: "Is this shit floating in the air." (Death Stranding) i have to question his credibility as a games journalist. What are you doing there? Aren't you supposed to makes the other guys some coffee and prepare some snacks?

To us gamers, E3 is supposed to be like a Christmas, watching trailers at the movies, the equivalent of watching a tv program with a group of friends. The energy and personality of this group kinda belittles the theatrical and entertaining element of this conference. Sony is trying preserve something that Nintendo used to have. Looking forward to the future and truly taking in the emotions and content of the games.
The Super best friends always talk about 'Giant Bomb' so I've come to check them out. I hear they take allot of inspiration from these guys so i may as well check these dudes out too. God Of War without "press X not to die" events? Well never thought I would see that. Tho I suspect it it's just removed making the battle seem more cinematic. But overall a great show, but VR don't seem like it worth 399 atm vs the other PC options. Seems like it's mostly just mini games that are 3 min long within other games. Maybe that will improve in time. But as of now? No way.
Considering it has taken me 30 to 50 min to complete most of them that are on Steam, and they have tech demos that do lasts for 3 hours to. That's still more then 5 min of 50 tech demos on PS4 that is mostly just built in to non VR games. And if you think 399 is worth it for 3 min of Star Wars or the 2 games they showed that lasts more then 30 min at launch or that one FF mission, then that's fine. I personally think PS VR atm is a waste vs PC, even tho there is a price difference. Tho granted you need space for the PC one to move and the sensors vs the PS one. That's an disadvantage they have. But for now with the games they have planned for it ahead for that price. Not really. Not when it's not a part of the main games as a whole. And when they release pure VR games for full retail that lasts for a few hours, I suspect the price and dropped enough on the set to be worth it.

No, but seeing they have 20+ of them on the E3 floor that is the full version inc the FF one that lasts 10 min and the SW one lasting 3 min. But again I said day one. Not after a year or 2 years. But considering the people that do work for Sony and the VR section more or less said that by the end of the year, close to 40 of those 50 games are 5-15 min tech demos within an other game like Battlefornt, as there is a list out atm. And the two trailers they showed inc Batman are only a handful of games that will take you more then an hour to complete within the first few months of it's life. I said that if they want more to feel the 399 is worth it, they need more then tech demos on day one and a full game or two. If that SW game was a full game at launch. They would sell it like hot cakes. But by the time they have more full retail games 100% built for VR. I suspect it's at 299 or lower. Then it's worth it. Not 399 for mostly tech demos. As Sony more or less have confirmed it several times. But again if you feel 399 is worth it straight away instead of waiting for a price drop and better games. You go for it. I don't feel 399 is worth it for mostly 5-10 min games within my full version games. That's what I'm saying.

Horizon: Zero Dawn - Lame story and gameplay behind pretty graphics, from the people who brought you the over-hyped shooter Killzone. Days Gone - Another zombie game, brought to you by people who's only experience in the last few years is a couple small PSVita games under the Uncharted branding. Their last game was literally a card game. Detroit - Heavy Rain. Nuff said. Death Stranding - Nothing but a concept and trailer thus far. Not coming out for years. Spider-Man - there is no list that includes this game which can't be described as sad. The Last Guardian - 7 more years?

You don't know if the story is lame or not. We only got this gameplay trailer and a few other ones to set up our main character and the atmosphere. If you've played it, I would love to know. Kojima's trailer was for getting the character out there and his company to show everyone that he is working on something for us. So, of course it's not coming out for a couple of years. I love all the GiantBomb quick looks and such. However, I do feel a huge disconect when it comes to expectations and reactions to conferences.
For me, Sony's last two E3 showings have been as good as it gets. I guess it's all opinions.

I thought it was underwhelming as all heck and I have no reason to get a PS4 for a long time. Or ever, considering the leaps in PC technology meaning it's more attractive to get a GTX 1070 or RX 480. Sony should really just port all the games to PC. More money for them and Bloodborne and Driveclub at 60FPS without hardware constraints would have been nice.

JAG LeMans what you don't get is its an event made to market gaming, platform or games. Companies are willing to lie at these events. Gaming journalists know this more than most. So they're more realistic in their expectations and aren't in it for the hype factor like most fanboys are.
What's with all the negativity about Crash Bandicoot? Didn't Shaun Layden say that it would be the original 3 games built from the ground up for PS4? I'm expecting those games, with visual fidelity of the most recent Ratchet and Clank, and that to me sounds pretty awesome. Ratchet and Clank PS4 is a remake, and the reception has been very positive, but if Crash does it, people shit on the idea? I don't get it.
I've been listening to GB for a few years now, and I still confused and surprised as to what they get hyped about and wurst they're down on. They seems to really like Nintendo nostalgia, but nit really the Sony ones. They seem okay with some Xbox ones. For the most part I would consider GB to be fans of: PC/Nintendo and then Xbox/Sony.

Funny how in every other video of this type the like/dislike ratio is very positive, but in these specific videos they get called cynics and video game haters. :)

I dont agree with the view that there should have been a person on stage explaining things for VR, i have never been more excited to watch an e3 press conference than the sony's one, i was very impressed. it was amazing and i think it was a conference for gamers like me who are hungry for new IPs from sony and see great games. There is a message behind this sony conference and it was that they are gonna cater to the gamer cuz it has worked out really well for the ps4. It was kinda weird to have you guys be so critical and it kinda makes me wonder if the disconnect between journalist and normal gamers is widening. Don't get me wrong and feel like i dont like you guys, i love listening to the beastcast and i have so much fun cuz of you guys.
So because they aren't kissing Sony's ass they're being overly-critical? In my view, they were a little underwhelmed by Sony's conference and they were being honest about it. It's great if the conference hit all the right notes for you, but that doesn't mean it has the same effect for everybody.

I feel like I'm in the same position as you, wanting new IPs and great games... and that's exactly why I wasn't that impressed with Sony (it was still a good conference, just not much more than that). 1 of those games actually has a release date, the rest are in development. It's very possible by the next E3 only Last Guardian has actually come out (of the big exclusives at least). I am hungry for games, so I don't want to see what I can play 1 year or 2 years or longer from now, I want to know what I can play in the coming months. Microsoft actually showed games I'll be playing this year (Gears, Recore, Dead Rising, Forza, Halo Wars), Sony showed all of 1.
And one of the best options they could have shown that is supposed to be coming soon (No Man's Sky) they couldn't because people are so sick of waiting for it. And the one that is actually coming this year is infamous for taking so long to actually come out. What's to say these new games won't have the same thing happen? When these games do come sure, I'll get excited and I bet most of what Sony showed will end up being fantastic, but for now I'd much rather focus on things I'll actually get to play soon.

Btw square enix has delayed Neir from 2016 to early 2017 cuz there are too many games late 2016 that would compete with it. I am very happy with late 2016 multiplatform games and hope that the tomorrow children and other sony titles will make it a good 2016. Kinda glad sony games aren't coming late 2016 cuz there are already a lot of games i want to buy and i cant afford to buy most of them. I can save my money cuz sony is taking time. Titles like Final fantasy 15, deus ex, titanfall 2, COD, watch dogs 2 xcom 2, and many more.

It happens, especially when you've known each other for as long as these guys have. They trust each other's opinions and are willing to be wrong. It's a natural human trait.
For example: Saw the new Star Wars movie with a couple of friends, and after some discussion we all agreed we didn't like it. Weeks later I re-watched it alone and realized I actually did enjoy it. Now that's the opinion I hold. Even though my friends and I disagree, I now know for sure how I feel about it.
Truth is, opinions are fluid and affected by those we trust. Movies, music, games, even politics - it takes time and experience to really determine how we feel about something. What we're seeing here is that very process. Most journalists don't show things like this because it makes them seem changeable, but nearly every one of them has these conversations before they solidify their opinion and publicize it.

Have to agree with their commentary. Too much explaining or talking is bad, but having none at all leaves me with no clue about what the point of getting PSVR is right now. Sony let the games do the talking. Lots of exciting new ip's too where as MS only had a couple of new one's with the rest being sequels.

Information about the nature of the God of War, including them confirmed that it is NOT open world was confirmed in an interview straight after the show and as a result has appeared everywhere. All major basic questions about the nature of the games revealed were answered in interviews in the 24 hours following, they didn't need to have people come out and explain it all here. That would just bog down the pace of the show.
dude first of all you could clearly see that in the gameplay god of war not being open world. plus days gone u could see the similarity to the last of us in the cinematic trailer which was good but then the gameplay made it awesome cuz there is SO MANY zombies chasing you at once and they are all running ones its a lot more tension then dead rising.
When I first watched this I thought for sure that the Days Gone trailer was a Ride to Hell reboot.

Their use of the phrase "VR experience" as opposed to game is enough to realize these arent really games to play, but little bite size vr demos. Im equally disappointed. What I like about GiantBomb is that they don't buy into hype or into console wars or fandoms. It used to be cool to hate Sony and love Microsoft and now it's reversed over the last couple years. Sony had a really good showing but I don't think they deserve all the outright craze and fandom they receive. Just like I don't think Microsoft deserves all the hate they receive. Everyone online portrays just one out of two extremes, either outright love or hatred. If you think a game just looks "okay" then you're boring and or jaded. Giant Bomb provides a grounded perspective into the industry while everyone else jumps on hype trains for games that arn't even shipping for at least a couple of years.

Statistically there are more let downs from games then there are pay offs, these guys have been in the business for a long while and know that.

I don't mind watching a conference with a lot of commentary, but if it's stuff like: "Is this shit floating in the air." (Death Stranding) i have to question his credibility as a games journalist. The earlies we'll be seeing some of these games is around Christmas this year and a bunch next year, but honestly that shouldn't matter. EA's was a mess.

To us gamers, E3 is supposed to be like a Christmas, watching trailers at the movies, the equivalent of watching a tv program with a group of friends. The energy and personality of this group kinda belittles the theatrical and entertaining element of this conference. Sony is trying preserve something that Nintendo used to have. Looking forward to the future and truly taking in the emotions and content of the games.
The Super best friends always talk about 'Giant Bomb' so I've come to check them out. I hear they take allot of inspiration from these guys so i may as well check these dudes out too. No reason why i cant sub to these guys too if they have similar humour and tastes to the SBF. If anyone knows of any other good gaming podcasts please let me know. Almost nothing impresses these guys....I'll admit I don't follow Giant Bomb that often, but whenever I watch anything they seem down on whatever it is they're playing.

God Of War without "press X not to die" events? Well never thought I would see that. Tho I suspect it it's just removed making the battle seem more cinematic. But overall a great show, but VR don't seem like it worth 399 atm vs the other PC options. Seems like it's mostly just mini games that are 3 min long within other games. Maybe that will improve in time. But as of now? No way.

Considering it has taken me 30 to 50 min to complete most of them that are on Steam, and they have tech demos that do lasts for 3 hours to. That's still more then 5 min of 50 tech demos on PS4 that is mostly just built in to non VR games. And if you think 399 is worth it for 3 min of Star Wars or the 2 games they showed that lasts more then 30 min at launch or that one FF mission, then that's fine. I personally think PS VR atm is a waste vs PC, even tho there is a price difference. Tho granted you need space for the PC one to move and the sensors vs the PS one. That's an disadvantage they have. But for now with the games they have planned for it ahead for that price. Not really. Not when it's not a part of the main games as a whole. And when they release pure VR games for full retail that lasts for a few hours, I suspect the price and dropped enough on the set to be worth it.

No, but seeing they have 20+ of them on the E3 floor that is the full version inc the FF one that lasts 10 min and the SW one lasting 3 min. But again I said day one. Not after a year or 2 years. But considering the people that do work for Sony and the VR section more or less said that by the end of the year, close to 40 of those 50 games are 5-15 min tech demos within an other game like Battlefornt, as there is a list out atm. And the two trailers they showed inc Batman are only a handful of games that will take you more then an hour to complete within the first few months of it's life. I said that if they want more to feel the 399 is worth it, they need more then tech demos on day one and a full game or two. If that SW game was a full game at launch. They would sell it like hot cakes. But by the time they have more full retail games 100% built for VR. I suspect it's at 299 or lower. Then it's worth it. Not 399 for mostly tech demos. As Sony more or less have confirmed it several times. But again if you feel 399 is worth it straight away instead of waiting for a price drop and better games. You go for it. I don't feel 399 is worth it for mostly 5-10 min games within my full version games. That's what I'm saying.

Days Gone - Another zombie game, brought to you by people who's only experience in the last few years is a couple small PSVita games under the Uncharted branding. Their last game was literally a card game.
Detroit - Heavy Rain. Nuff said.
Death Stranding - Nothing but a concept and trailer thus far. Not coming out for years.
Spider-Man - there is no list that includes this game which can't be described as sad.

Also, God of War is not a reboot. It's a continuation of Kratos' story. The guy who is handling it was a big part of the success of the last three and he felt like it was time to give Kratos some redemption.
