What a conference they had hey? FF 7 Remake, The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3, Hitman, Uncharted 4, Horizon, etc. Hit it out of the ball park this year. Wish E3 was still like this.
I think the episodic structure of "Hitman," which wasn't shown off in this presentation, really worked to its benefit with the GB crew. I've noticed it myself with "Hitman 2": being given it all at once lends itself to just powering through it to the end, without revisiting each level to "master" it and its secrets.
It's funny looking at all these old comments livid that Giant Bomb wasn't sycophantic for every game they saw, considering how many releases from the last couple of E3's have been mediocre-to-bad.

Wow.. the comments on this video are pretty over the top; I'm not a GB fanboy either. I know Jeff, Alex, and Brad from back in the day, but honestly this is the first full length GB video I've watched. I came here to get a hit of Ryckert (Really miss him on Game Informer's Replay) but he was actually fairly quiet. This is some of the most honest, no frills looks at the industry I've seen in a long time. I don't think they sound jaded, I think they're just looking at it from the perspective of a group of guys who've covered like 15 E3's and actually understand what the industry is all about. You guys need to chill the fuck out. It is their full time job, so this shit isn't as mind-blowingly amazing for them as it is for someone who isn't immersed in this stuff every day. It's like going to see a band once, as opposed to being part of the road crew and seeing the same show 30 times over the course of a tour. They don't hate games they're just looking at it from an industry perspective as opposed to a fan. You don't like that, then go somewhere else for a "reaction" video.

Watching a 2 minute reveal trailer for a game you're really hyped for, is worlds away from actually having to sit and cover like 10 hours of the hype machine.
I wish I could say that I'm surprised by the reactions from the commenters, but I'm really not. The guys from Giant Bomb gave a valid assessment. Sure, what Sony showed during its conference seems like a strong line-up, but the company showed very little that'll make any immediate impact. Pay attention to the wording during Microsoft's conference, and you'll realize that Microsoft had a better understanding of what was important for its conference. Who cares what you show now if it isn't available anytime soon? Microsoft had a stronger showing for the near future, and Microsoft will likely continue to have strong showings in future conferences for the times to follow. What does Sony have? Okay, Sony's got The Last Guardian. Good on them for finally showing it. It's supposed to be out sometime in 2016. In other words, fans could be waiting past next E3 for it. Sony's got Final Fantasy VII. It's probably not gonna be exclusive to PlayStation 4 if Square-Enix wants to actually make money on it, and Square-Enix previously went on record by saying that there weren't plans to remake FFVII because it'd take too much time and money to recreate its scope with modern production values. That either means that 1) the remake won't be nearly as ambitious (or good) as fans hope or 2) the remake will just take too long to make. I doubt that it'll be released before 2018, and even 2018 is looking bleak for this remake, in my opinion. And Sony's got Shenmue III, a game that isn't coming out until at least late 2017 and that Sony hasn't exactly embraced as anything that it wants much of anything to do with. As for the other stuff, yeah, it's stuff that we've seen before. Fair assessment from the Giant Bomb guys, in my opinion.
Man everyone is so angry that the giant bomb crew didn't shit themselves over the ff7 remake. Acting like this was the greatest conference of all time due to that one announcement. They were hype for the last guardian and impressed with horizon, not everyone is required to give a shit about ff7.

The negative comments and accusations of smugness comes from people who want their own excitement and hype confirmed by others on the internet. The moment someone is the tiniest bit skeptical of a remake to a heavily beloved and VERY OLD classic from a publisher with a currently spotty reputation, they're immediately 'too smug for E3 you should just retire'.

Besides, early next year (or spring if Uncharted slips again...) Sony's going to have a huge game coming out. And it's going to sell millions, there are a lot of Uncharted fans out there and there's definitely a place for at least one more game in the story. So, you know, it's kinda your job to be critical and whatnot but also you should probably put things in a larger perspective, and not just stare at what's coming out now. As it was very clearly shown, physical games are incredibly important to console gaming. You take that out, I think I'd have a hard time buying a console as well. I'd probably become a very late cycle buyer. In any case, Sony can afford one holiday without a big push for exclusives. If it was like a whole year of nothing (there was at least Bloodborne this year)? Then you'd see the sales drop in a major way. Who knows what'll happen in 15 to 20 years when I'd presume we had a reached a point of diminishing returns in the technological arms race.
I don't know what you mean by 'physical games', but if you mean AAA games, the PC has just about everything the PS4 does, and then some. Plus they usually look/play a lot better. If you mean the concept of ownership, you don't actually own the games anymore. You own the broken-ass beta versions that often times require a multi-gig day one patch just to work correctly. You ain't gonna be playing these games in 10-20 years as they were meant to be played. As for resale value, this is offset by the fact that you can often times find discount codes for Steam games on launch day, sometimes by $20 or more. Face it... consoles are now the cheap, jack-off brand of gaming for people who can't afford a proper PC setup.

Literally all E3 is is a hype machine, and hype has been a huge problem in the game industry the past decade. Almost everything that comes out of E3 doesn't end up looking or running as good as its trailer/demo reveal made it out to be, a lot of games will never even see the light of day, among a bunch of other shit. I mean, if you like getting hyped that's cool. But it's kind of hard to get hyped about anything when you know it's going to all end the same way everything ended the year before, and the year before that, and the year before that.

Wow, I'm super excited for this e3 trifecta (Last Guardian, FF7 Remake, and Shenmue 3) and all but you people are all exaggerated whiners. After seeing the dislike bar, and reading the comments I watched some of the video to see what the hell people were so pissed about. The only thing that I saw were people who very much understand the cultural and historic meaning behind these announcements in gaming. I saw a fun group of people taking jabs at the ridiculousness of reintroducing a game years after its inception, at a company marred by long development times, and a game introduced on stage by a kickstarter. I saw smiles on their faces as those titles came across the screen, meeting them with same amount of excitement as they showed any other game. I saw an objective, analytical group of people who simply are afraid of getting over-hyped and burned. I loved these announcements and jumped for joy like practically every other person who watched this e3, but I can also understand where they're coming from. Honestly, if you think every person on earth should share your point of view at all times of the day, then you need to grow up. TH-cam comments reminding me why I despise humanity since 2005

Except for Giantbomb... who are focused on what's actually playable in the foreseeable future and not empty trailers to games that may or may not come out in the next few years.

I think the fact that FF VII Remake isn't out yet actually shows off why they were correct with their reaction to its announcement here: they realized that it is a no-win situation. Remake the game to hew closely to the original and you show off just how lacking it is in many areas, but remake it too differently and you have fans acting like you've insulted their children.

For those getting annoyed at the lack of reaction to certain announcements then maybe you should just think about what you are expecting? Firstly Last Guardian is a game that was announced years and years ago and for one reason or another was in development hell and yes it has a release window now and thats great but it's not something to lose your mind over. Final Fantasy VII is a twenty year old game getting a new coat of paint from a company who only now saw fit to hit the emergency button and make this game again. There is alot of stupid stuff in Final Fantasy VII, the fame of that game was how it broke boundaries back when it was released. So many elements of gaming have evolved from then that Final Fantasy VII is practically archaic, despite alot of it's peers of the time still holding up. Also is this what gaming is now? Freaking out about a remake? How about something new and refreshing instead? Square could have used this money to make the NEXT Final Fantasy VII if you get my meaning. Shenmue 3 is possibly the funniest one of the lot. The game was announced for Kickstarter at an E3 Press Conference. Thats the confidence that this title is held by those in the business that fund games. I will probably play this game but to say I'm skeptical about it would be an understatement. It's nice it's going to be made but it's not going to blow the doors of the industry by any means. So in conclusion people are mad at esteemed Game Journalists for not freaking out like 12 year Olds for 1. A Game that took 7 Years to get a release window (not even a fucking date). 2. A Remake of a cherished but very outdated and overpraised 20 Year Old JRPG 3. A Kickstarter Campaign for a Sequel to a game series that is synonymous in the industry for losing ALOT of money. I get that people get swept up in the hype but forcing that on others is beyond ridiculous especially when you look at the bigger picture.

The most interesting things about Sony's E3 2015 press event are announcements of games we've been waiting on for an entire console generation or more or games with CG trailers with no indication to how they are actually going to play or when they will, if ever, be released. So games announced 1-3 years ago primarily consisting of cross plats my PC will play better than the PS4 would. Which is exactly my point. You aren't going to play TLG, FFVII, KH3, or Shenmue 3. These are the announcements people lost their minds over. WELL... there was two. Bethesda did it right with Fallout 4. Years ago they realized that showing bullshots of a vertical slices not representative of the final game or announcing games years in advance or release was a consumer friendly trend. So they announced their AAA title with a release date that is within the same year and actually showed it off, warts and all this conference. A lot of people complained about the way it looks but I applauded them for their honesty and am legitimately excited for it, as I am for the rest of the games coming out this year... which includes Dark Souls 3, a game that Bamco/ From announced this year during the Microsoft Event. Good on them for announcing a game to come out this spring while having a playable build on the showroom floor. Just Cause 3 gets a special mention because it is coming out 13 months after it was announced (Nov last year, not E3) and the footage they showed made it look incredibly fun, which was a delightful surprise. I am legitimately happy about that one too. But yeah...Besides FO4 and DkS3 the rest weren't announced this E3. In fact they were announced during E3s a lot of people consider sub-par. But eh... who cares about facts. Not being hyped about this years E3 or games we've known about for 1+ years that are finally coming out means we're jaded cynics.

I think the episodic structure of "Hitman," which wasn't shown off in this presentation, really worked to its benefit with the GB crew. I've noticed it myself with "Hitman 2": being given it all at once lends itself to just powering through it to the end, without revisiting each level to "master" it and its secrets.
It's funny looking at all these old comments livid that Giant Bomb wasn't sycophantic for every game they saw, considering how many releases from the last couple of E3's have been mediocre-to-bad.

Wow.. the comments on this video are pretty over the top; I'm not a GB fanboy either. I know Jeff, Alex, and Brad from back in the day, but honestly this is the first full length GB video I've watched. I came here to get a hit of Ryckert (Really miss him on Game Informer's Replay) but he was actually fairly quiet.
This is some of the most honest, no frills looks at the industry I've seen in a long time.
I don't think they sound jaded, I think they're just looking at it from the perspective of a group of guys who've covered like 15 E3's and actually understand what the industry is all about.

I wish I could say that I'm surprised by the reactions from the commenters, but I'm really not. The guys from Giant Bomb gave a valid assessment. Sure, what Sony showed during its conference seems like a strong line-up, but the company showed very little that'll make any immediate impact.
Pay attention to the wording during Microsoft's conference, and you'll realize that Microsoft had a better understanding of what was important for its conference. Who cares what you show now if it isn't available anytime soon? Microsoft had a stronger showing for the near future, and Microsoft will likely continue to have strong showings in future conferences for the times to follow.
What does Sony have? Okay, Sony's got The Last Guardian. Good on them for finally showing it. It's supposed to be out sometime in 2016. In other words, fans could be waiting past next E3 for it. Sony's got Final Fantasy VII. It's probably not gonna be exclusive to PlayStation 4 if Square-Enix wants to actually make money on it, and Square-Enix previously went on record by saying that there weren't plans to remake FFVII because it'd take too much time and money to recreate its scope with modern production values. That either means that 1) the remake won't be nearly as ambitious (or good) as fans hope or 2) the remake will just take too long to make. I doubt that it'll be released before 2018, and even 2018 is looking bleak for this remake, in my opinion. And Sony's got Shenmue III, a game that isn't coming out until at least late 2017 and that Sony hasn't exactly embraced as anything that it wants much of anything to do with.
As for the other stuff, yeah, it's stuff that we've seen before.

Man everyone is so angry that the giant bomb crew didn't shit themselves over the ff7 remake. Acting like this was the greatest conference of all time due to that one announcement. They were hype for the last guardian and impressed with horizon, not everyone is required to give a shit about ff7.

The negative comments and accusations of smugness comes from people who want their own excitement and hype confirmed by others on the internet. It's the reason why there's trailer reaction videos for pretty much everything. The moment someone is the tiniest bit skeptical of a remake to a heavily beloved and VERY OLD classic from a publisher with a currently spotty reputation, they're immediately 'too smug for E3 you should just retire'.

No one is going to stop watching Giant Bomb because they didn't weep tears of joy for distant promises that should have been nestled among actually interesting new IP's they needed a few more Horizons, Microsoft needed that badly to but they have franchises that interest me more so even though their console isn't very good the Windows 10 integration will hopefully make me feel like I didn't buy the consoles JUST to play with a few friends and Halo.

Dudes, there are plenty 3rd party games coming out, is it really that big of a deal for Sony if they don't have a huge 1st party game coming out this holiday? I'm sure the console will keep selling fine, better than fine. When Microsoft was leading the sales last gen they were doing just fine without that many 1st party titles every year. Besides, early next year (or spring if Uncharted slips again...) Sony's going to have a huge game coming out. And it's going to sell millions, there are a lot of Uncharted fans out there and there's definitely a place for at least one more game in the story.
So, you know, it's kinda your job to be critical and whatnot but also you should probably put things in a larger perspective, and not just stare at what's coming out now. I was expecting this year to be "the year" for this gen but, well, games get delayed, a lot. Better that than shipping them broken, we all know how well that works out.

As it was very clearly shown, physical games are incredibly important to console gaming. You take that out, I think I'd have a hard time buying a console as well. I'd probably become a very late cycle buyer. In any case, Sony can afford one holiday without a big push for exclusives. If it was like a whole year of nothing (there was at least Bloodborne this year)? Then you'd see the sales drop in a major way.
Who knows what'll happen in 15 to 20 years when I'd presume we had a reached a point of diminishing returns in the technological arms race.
I don't know what you mean by 'physical games', but if you mean AAA games, the PC has just about everything the PS4 does, and then some. Plus they usually look/play a lot better. If you mean the concept of ownership, you don't actually own the games anymore. You own the broken-ass beta versions that often times require a multi-gig day one patch just to work correctly. You ain't gonna be playing these games in 10-20 years as they were meant to be played.
As for resale value, this is offset by the fact that you can often times find discount codes for Steam games on launch day, sometimes by $20 or more. Face it... consoles are now the cheap, jack-off brand of gaming for people who can't afford a proper PC setup.

Literally all E3 is is a hype machine, and hype has been a huge problem in the game industry the past decade. Almost everything that comes out of E3 doesn't end up looking or running as good as its trailer/demo reveal made it out to be, a lot of games will never even see the light of day, among a bunch of other shit.

Wow, I'm super excited for this e3 trifecta (Last Guardian, FF7 Remake, and Shenmue 3) and all but you people are all exaggerated whiners. After seeing the dislike bar, and reading the comments I watched some of the video to see what the hell people were so pissed about. The only thing that I saw were people who very much understand the cultural and historic meaning behind these announcements in gaming. I saw a fun group of people taking jabs at the ridiculousness of reintroducing a game years after its inception, at a company marred by long development times, and a game introduced on stage by a kickstarter. I saw smiles on their faces as those titles came across the screen, meeting them with same amount of excitement as they showed any other game. I saw an objective, analytical group of people who simply are afraid of getting over-hyped and burned. I loved these announcements and jumped for joy like practically every other person who watched this e3, but I can also understand where they're coming from. Honestly, if you think every person on earth should share your point of view at all times of the day, then you need to grow up.

You know the promises you heard yesterday? yeah - We've heard them all before and for cases like TLG (8 years) , FFXV (9 years), Shenmue 3 (14 years, but 1-2 sucked) we're still waiting. No Man's Sky's promises we heard by Molyneux in Spore. FFVII wasn't even a promise. It wasn't anything. It's still just as likely to be coming out in the next 5-10 years if at all whether or not it was announced since it was just a CG trailer ( if SE's track record for the last 10 years is a reliable enough indication ).
Never forget Watchdogs. Never forget Dark Souls 2. Never forget Duke Nukem Forever and Aliens Colonial Marines. Never forget any #downgradegate . Don't fall for bullshots, cg trailers, fake ingame footage and empty promises. Only then will you not become a jaded hipster that is still keeping up with E3.

There were no surprises this year... except for how phony games media people turned out to be. Except for Giantbomb... who are focused on what's actually playable in the foreseeable future and not empty trailers to games that may or may not come out in the next few years.

I think the fact that FF VII Remake isn't out yet actually shows off why they were correct with their reaction to its announcement here: they realized that it is a no-win situation. Remake the game to hew closely to the original and you show off just how lacking it is in many areas, but remake it too differently and you have fans acting like you've insulted their children.

Wait so it was just this conference that everyones pissed about? because they arent jizzing their pants over everything? This was no different than their coverage for any other companys conference but apparently weve got a load of sony fanboys in here disliking the video haha.
For those getting annoyed at the lack of reaction to certain announcements then maybe you should just think about what you are expecting?
Firstly Last Guardian is a game that was announced years and years ago and for one reason or another was in development hell and yes it has a release window now and thats great but it's not something to lose your mind over.
Final Fantasy VII is a twenty year old game getting a new coat of paint from a company who only now saw fit to hit the emergency button and make this game again. There is alot of stupid stuff in Final Fantasy VII, the fame of that game was how it broke boundaries back when it was released. So many elements of gaming have evolved from then that Final Fantasy VII is practically archaic, despite alot of it's peers of the time still holding up. Also is this what gaming is now? Freaking out about a remake? How about something new and refreshing instead? Square could have used this money to make the NEXT Final Fantasy VII if you get my meaning.
Shenmue 3 is possibly the funniest one of the lot. The game was announced for Kickstarter at an E3 Press Conference. Thats the confidence that this title is held by those in the business that fund games. I will probably play this game but to say I'm skeptical about it would be an understatement. It's nice it's going to be made but it's not going to blow the doors of the industry by any means.
So in conclusion people are mad at esteemed Game Journalists for not freaking out like 12 year Olds for
1. A Game that took 7 Years to get a release window (not even a fucking date).
2. A Remake of a cherished but very outdated and overpraised 20 Year Old JRPG
3. A Kickstarter Campaign for a Sequel to a game series that is synonymous in the industry for losing ALOT of money.
I get that people get swept up in the hype but forcing that on others is beyond ridiculous especially when you look at the bigger picture.

I get the need for exclusives because you can always say PC is better. Believe me I play games on PC and PS4, but I feel like these guys seem to forget that the vast majority of gamers play on console. Yes PC is coming up strong, but as of now consoles are still where the gamers are.

TheRoseExperience and I'm not saying you are required to be hyped/lose your shit but the cynicism is insufferable here. I'm practically the same age as Jeff and just wonder why he continues in a field he doesn't seem to even enjoy. This goes for a lot of people covering games now as well, if you are acting above the medium you cover, it's time to move on. Sadly, I don't think many of these people have anywhere else to go professionally so they'd rather sit there and be unimpressed by the medium that gave them their slight and undeserved moments of fame.
E3 is a commercial for games, dude, not the games. Getting excited over hype and commercials is fun and all, but we rely on these guys to keep their shit together. There are tons of screaming young fanboys on the net. Find one and enjoy.

SummerWave Grow up, there's no butt hurt here. Just disappointed to see people earning a living off an industry they constantly condemn. Cynicism from a disgusting overweight man who likely has little in his life aside from this medium he often despises and how it's rubbed off on his minions. They don't have to even be excited for big announcements, but they actively said many of these things were stupid. It's absurd to hold an opinion on games that most felt would never happen.
I'm not even a fan of FF7 or Shenmue (I think Shenmue in particular isn't that great) but if Giant Bomb crew can't react any better than mild amusement over Sony's press conference, they need to move on and find something that they will enjoy. Develop your resume, find another hobby, have fun doing something else, don't be miserable because what's being shown isn't for you.

Honestly I've never understood why anyone liked to watch these trade shows. They're long and boring, with uncharismatic nerds droning on a stage spouting awful pitch monologues.
My heart sank from those Star Wars games.
This is bad. The most interesting things about Sony's E3 2015 press event are announcements of games we've been waiting on for an entire console generation or more or games with CG trailers with no indication to how they are actually going to play or when they will, if ever, be released.
But yeah please be excited for TLG (announced 8 years ago) or FFVII remake (even though FFXV was announced 9 years ago and still isn't out) or Shenmue 3(which was bad. Yakuza does everything it did but better and you still don't care).
Please be excited! Just look at all of those youtube/ streaming personalities who knew these games were leaked days/ weeks ahead of time and staged their hype! They are so excited so we all should be excited too, right?

So games announced 1-3 years ago primarily consisting of cross plats my PC will play better than the PS4 would. Which is exactly my point.
You aren't going to play TLG, FFVII, KH3, or Shenmue 3. These are the announcements people lost their minds over.
WELL... there was two.
Bethesda did it right with Fallout 4. Years ago they realized that showing bullshots of a vertical slices not representative of the final game or announcing games years in advance or release was a consumer friendly trend. So they announced their AAA title with a release date that is within the same year and actually showed it off, warts and all this conference. A lot of people complained about the way it looks but I applauded them for their honesty and am legitimately excited for it, as I am for the rest of the games coming out this year... which includes Dark Souls 3, a game that Bamco/ From announced this year during the Microsoft Event. Good on them for announcing a game to come out this spring while having a playable build on the showroom floor.
Just Cause 3 gets a special mention because it is coming out 13 months after it was announced (Nov last year, not E3) and the footage they showed made it look incredibly fun, which was a delightful surprise. I am legitimately happy about that one too.
But yeah...Besides FO4 and DkS3 the rest weren't announced this E3. In fact they were announced during E3s a lot of people consider sub-par. But eh... who cares about facts. Not being hyped about this years E3 or games we've known about for 1+ years that are finally coming out means we're jaded cynics.
You mentioned yakuza since you should know that there are plenty of people that are interested in games that are not AAA.
And they are coming, exclusive to PS platforms, this year.
