smart of Sony to make the digital version of the console more sleek and symmetrical. makes the drive version look like 'the weird one.' really locking up that OCD design demographic
Whoever worked on those motion graphics for those transitions... they deserve a raise, those looked great and there were so many. That's so much work for stuff that may never be used again.
The benefit to Sony for an all digital version is that pretty much all game purchases are directly through Sony so they get a larger % of the profits. They can consider that increased profit to justify a (perhaps) $100 price difference.
Same, slightly disappointed with the vibe and the first person view. Totally not what I expected when the trailer gave off a totally different vibe initially.
Same, I thought it would be more of stealth horror type game, like the Siren games. I’m not disappointed in the gameplay, it looks cool, but yeah, it’s not like I expected
Maybe it has a original bioshock vibe to it where it’ a lot of action and horror elements, as dirty casual that didn’t know of its existence I thought it was one of the best games in the conference.
Feels like they haven’t been this positive after a press conference for a while, I almost forgot GB could sound happy. I guess a new-gen brings out the kid in everyone.
I was excited about almost every game and I've been watching "reacts" vids on a couple channels. But now it's time to get grounded and watch with my favorite GB people. Love y'all.
I'm legitimately surprised no one - especially Alex - got a giggle out of Devolver's Nina Struthers being included in the developer montage near the end.
I wouldn't mind lack of disc drive if they fixed account regions. I move to different countries, which means I cannot just switch region or even use credit card from my current country. Buying physical discs is the easiest solution for me right now.
I'm not quite sure I understand your issue - I'm an Australian with an Australian PS4 and in the past 2 years I've moved to Netherlands and Denmark and I just keep using my Australian PS4 account and buy game on the Australian store with my Australian credit card.
Damn! I saw at least 6 to 8 games I want to play immediately! Well done, Sony! Please let this next console generation be a return to making "video-ass video games" and not lootbox casinos aimed at children and heavily monetized, AAA mobile games (looking at you EA, Acti-Blizz, Take Two, and Ubisoft).
Here at game studio, our team together with console manufacturer, have been working tirelessly to bring you an exciting and revolutionairy new experience. By utilizing graphics technology and storytelling techniques we are able to make you feel basic emotions like 'sad.' Without further ado, I give you: third-person shooter with undertitle. We hope you enjoy some aspects of our product.
That Playstation digital is basicly what xbox wanted at with the start of this generation, interesting. They might be able to sneak it in like this. The disc less version probably isn't that much cheaper to produce, but they are probably willing to make a bigger lose on it cause the digital only will make sure they will end up seeing more money from it?
No drive saves them a decent amount of cost. but every game and movie used on that version will for sure come from the PlayStation store so they can subsidize the price for the digital one more, make it cheaper. Disks, boxes, shipping and stores eat up most of the profits. These machines cost a bit to make, they want one version at a good price.
The Amazon preorders are high estimates from random sellers. They do it in the toy industry all the time. I’ve seen pictures of actors from imdb as a sale thumbnail. It’s easy to overestimate a price. It won’t be more than 600 pounds...
No disc drive future sounds awefull. Me and every other American stuck in a rural place where nobody gives a damn about working on internet infrastructure are boned. I already leave my PS4 on for sometimes days trying to download a game. Imagine how much longer it will take to download even bigger game file.
Then...buy the version with the disc drive? Likewise, people who live in cities or suburbs with fast broadband? Feel free to buy the all-digital version.
Anyone notice that they changed the main character's voice actor in Deathloop? I'm like 99% sure they had Dave Fennoy in the reveal trailer and this felt like a major step down. Bummer
I'm surprised the GB guys were pro on the drive version - I only have 2 physical game copies for PS4. I was relieved when they popped up the digital version because I was like 'Oh awesome. I can get one at a cheaper price point because I don't use the drive anyway'. I thought we were pretty deep into the period of everything digital at this point, besides back home in my native Australia with the shitty internet. Sony has really good sale prices on their digital games as well. Like right now you can get almost their entire exclusive library on sale for 17-24 AUD, which is like 12 US dollars per game, and having digital versions makes it easy to retain your games across platforms, in the same way that I could build a new PC and still have my whole Steam library available. That's the future for me - I want to keep all my games accessible always, through digital availability. In 5 years if I want to boot up a game I played and use my save, I want that to be possible. I expect the driveless version will be 50 USD cheaper.
I'm warming up to digital but I live in Aus so internet sucks. Also so many new release games are $99.95, when I can just go to jbhifi and get most new release games for $69 and have all the benefits of a physical copy. For me to go digital prices of games would need to be significantly cheaper and I'd need decent internet which isn't happening anytime soon. I suppose I'll just stick to mainly physical until I'm forced to go all digital.
@@meathoven222 I lived in Aus until late 2018 so I know where you're coming from and it's a definite issue, but even if you buy the game on cd, you usually have to download a patch to apply afterwards anyway before you can play so the cd itself essentially acts as your serial number for the game, which is why I think the move to digital makes sense, but I completely agree about JB HiFi and Amazon for that matter having physical copies for cheaper. I don't understand how buying physical copies has ended up being a cheaper option as that should have been one of the advantages of going digital
@@tristanedwards7302 Yeah day one patches are definitely annoying, but downloading a few gigs for a patch compared to the full game and having to wait a day or more to play is worth it. Sometimes I don't even bother downloading patches and just play as is. But yeah I'll never understand why digital is so much more expensive here, makes no sense.
Honestly I kind of like the design of the PS5 model, but it seems really big. If it was a bit more compact maybe it would feel sleek but instead it's kind of impractical and silly feeling.
Sony will probably take a hit on the digital edition by making it $100 cheaper so they can recoup it on every game sold being from PSN. Sony wants people to go discless and will likely be pushing it more than the standard edition.
Wait, Little Devil Inside is that game that went around twitter many years ago? It looks exactly as I remember it, so what is the story there? Was that a vertical slice back then?
There really isn't much that Sony and Microsoft is offering thats convincing me to get the system this holiday. Its looking like every new console that comes out, fancy system with very little to offer in games early on.
Everything PS4 is supposed to run on PS5. Very few games will need work before they run on PS5 correctly. Sony has been clear about this. Reporting has been confused about backwards compatibility, Sony showed included PS4 instruction set in APU, sad all but few will work with zero works...
That would be absurd. They can't mark it up $100 JUST for a disc drive. I expect it to cost more, it can't cost THAT much more. It's a freakin' disc drive for pete's sake! I am someone who wants the disc drive version and if the price was that different I'd just say no to both for a while.
"I have a love/hate relationship with this game. It's really good and I appreciate it for what it is, but it's way too hard for people who aren't Gandhi or Masochists."
17:39 “the biggest generational transition” lol what? Bigger than Atari -> NES? Bigger than PS1-> PS2? No way. I’d believe these games were running on PS4 if you told me, none look any better than current PC games.
I thought it was a bit underwhelming honestly (Not to be that guy) But there was nothing that made me go "I GOTTA HAVE THAT". Now that Xbox Series X and PS5 have been revealed, the most anticipated game is still a current gen game, Cyberpunk.
Xbox still haven’t shown their line up. Their previous showing was just an Inside Xbox show that was way overhyped but that’s on MS for not managing people’s expectations. I feel like this show was only better than the Xbox showing because it had those Sony exclusives but so many titles shown also look like 2021 and beyond, very little here than made me want a PS5 on launch.
I haven’t bought a disk based game for ps4/Xbox in around 4 years. I’d by the digital edition for the sleeker design, reduced price or added value is just a bonus.

It's really f'ed up Jeff of all people has become so complacent in accepting the yearly release model. That's always one thing I felt was off about certain critical reviews but for some reason always seemed to give COD a pass when it doesn't deserve one.
As long as the games are decent, I don’t see a problem. Assassins creed games started to have serious issues and the quality dropped so they got rid of that model Call of duty keeps a degree of quality each year, mostly because they have numerous studios working 2/3 years on each title.
