Good morning to you! I am Cross Cub grandpa from Japan and sharing Cross Cub video. Monkey is so nice motorcycle !! So great job ! Have a nice day friend !
You don’t want that big plastic lunch box air cleaner it blocks air cooling for the head, I got this intake on mine 👍I got a black widow exuast system that looks beautiful and performs just like yoshi for half the price, Al’s flashed tune, 14 tooth front sprocket and man in the box billet break away shifter that replaces the 10 pounds of metal rods and levers from factory, billet seat bolt plugs, a nice little luggage rack you gotta have something to hold stuff, put a clock on the handle bar because I would loose track having fun, 300 lb rear shocks the stock suspension is junk I still need to upgrade front forks and it could badly use a 5th gear maybe some one will make a kit soon? I love the bike my Harley just sits now it’s so easy to jump on the monk and burn up back roads all day on a half tank👍👍
looks like our roads in se ky. My 2022 monkey that was sposed to be here late sept is now due in mid dec, can't wait. If my bus is campable by then, i may take off to az/nm/nv just so i can ride the bike all winter lol good vid
@@RidgeRoamer yea I been playin with mini bikes again the last couple years and can't get enough of em. I go down to knoxville once in a while to drag race them with friends. I also want to hit some events at windrock and a few other places in e tn, as well as out west and the pnw.
I’ve got a Triumph SS that is tricked out. But I keep checking these out to have an easy bike to haul camping and mess around on. Maybe I can convince my wife she needs one. Can’t have too many bikes.
Thumbs up great video. I can’t help but think that now you’re faster, your gonna need better braking and suspension, maybe a full fairing, race leathers and boots. I’m gonna resist modifying my Monkey, (cause it looks like a rabbit hole!) and sometimes, slow is fun. That’s why I bought it. I’ll get the CBR out when I need some fast riding.
Thank you! The brakes are great since the bike is so light. I have upgraded the rear suspension already (first thing I did). Front could use work too, but it's passable. I have actually mocked up a fairing already, but really more as a joke. I have leathers, and have already dragged knee on the Monkey. I may post a little video I have, but really need to go get some better shots doing that. You are correct, slow is fun. But making that slow a little bit faster turns out to be even more fun!
Bro , you need a lift table ! I can’t imagine crawling around on the ground working on such a tiny bike. I have 3 of these bikes (two 2021 models and a 2023). I lift mine up to eye level on a Harbor Freight lift table . I highly recommend one 👍🏼
This is so cool, great job! Are you able to fit the airbox cover back on after the mod? I have some stickers on mine that I would hate to give up, otherwise this looks like a fun project!
I took the lunch box off immediately! I got this intake now, and don’t waste your money on yoshi exuast!! I got Black Widow it’s beautiful and performs great, take off thy12 pounds of foot shifter and linkage and get the 10oz billet break away shifter, have the module flashed for a stage one tune.
Put a windscreen on it!!! and you’ll be surprised, 3-5 MPH increase “by cutting wind”, my stock Grom can hit 70mph easy completely stock. 66 was top speed before adding the windscreen.
So is it a bit like a smaller version of a scrambler style of bike ? Go on the road and off it too ? Good 4 those long forest road rides in summer late afternoon through the hills with that beautiful sunset in the west coming through the trees and that smell !! Ah that smell of summer evening and pine forest with a side of slight dust to enhance your sences
Indeed, great little bike for riding hard in the curves, cruising the back roads, or hitting some trails. So lightweight and easy to handle in any situation. Just plain fun!
Inpurchase the air intake and the mufler you have but do you have the serial number for the ecu you purchase soni can get it , the video is great tnks fornthe info
If you want to make it look better you should paint that intake hose flat black. Since it's white and the bottom of the tank is white when you attempt to look at the straight line of the tank at the bottom your eye notices that kinda silly looking hose. I have learned that if you don't want to draw the eye's attention if you make something flat black it isn't even noticed.
Hey got a question what brand intake system did you install were did you get it and how much cause I just bought one and saw your video I'm interested in getting one
Nice Bike. I did the same mods except for the exhaust. I used the Vance and Hines slip on. Its a easy install, sound and performance are great but it doesn’t have that raised heat shield that the Yoshimura does. Leg burns! If I had to do it again I would buy the Yoshimura.
Just a follow up to my exhaust comment. I solved my leg burn issue with a 25.00 aftermarket heat shield for the portion of the pipe that gets my calf. Looks good. Also, if you get the Honda OEM rear peg assembly (got it overseas not sold in USA) you can use the Vance and Hines Grom Hooligan version of the exhaust which is run underneath.
Thanks for the video. Just bought a ‘21 Monkey non ABS. Few questions… what is that speaker box and is it hard wired to battery? Where did you order your tune and air intake upgrade? Would a tune be needed if I just upgraded the stupid looking factory air box to a nicer cleaner air filter look?
It's a Kuryakyn sound bar. I made a whole video on it too. Ordered intake through MNNTHBX. Tune done by CJR. Yes, just an intake would probably still require a tune.
the price isn't much really... the 40 yr old original monkeys/z50's are no less then $2000 - $3000 some fully restored even 4 to $5000 and a Honda grom is half the price but it's half the build of the monkey groms are all cheap plastic.. no chrome. monkeys are 100% metal...and chrome metal chrome fenders metal tank big comfy seat... there's a reason they're more money
I really enjoyed your video. I have the same bike. Could you be so kindly in letting me know the type of exhaust system you put on this bike. I like to do a little upgrading to my bike as well, and those two things seem to work out fine for you. Cheers thank you Marshall
Thatnks for the video. Just curious if there was any kind of special instructions for reinstall after the ecu flash? Or was it just plug and play? Thanks in advanced!
Yes and yes. The tune is awesome and it runs great with the mods. But my Monkey has always had cold idle issues. Not bad, but slight hesitation or occasional stall when first started. Was like that when 100% stock, and has been like that every since.
Those are aftermarket accessory bolts that allow you to use your key as a screwdriver instead of the standard stock bolts that require a ratchet. Purchased from mnnthbx.com
Did you ever get it re-programmed so it would idle at the correct speed? Those upgrade mods are always a compromise. They never work exactly as advertised.
Idle speed is same as stock. Never idled quite high enough before any mods. I need to ask the tuner to bump it up a bit, but the low idle is only an issue for the first few seconds, so never seems worth it. As soon as it warms up a touch, all is well. It is same before and after mods...
Other reviews say its top speed is 64-65 mph (original specs). How much extra speed do you gain with this upgrade, thinking of having better perfomance on freeways.
I am buying a Monkey this week. I’ve been reading many of the channels dedicated to the Honda Monkey. I’m 60 yrs old. I though about doing some performance mods i.e., yoshimura exhaust, chimera air intake … But then I saw that you have to reprogram the computer or chips on the monkey to adjust for the modifications. Then one TH-camr said the reprogramming wasn’t working and he had to go back to the original exhaust and air intake. Question: should I leave it alone? Just as the manufacturer intended ? JC
I'd say ride it stock for a while then decide. If it does everything you need/want it to do in stock form, then there is no reason to spend money on upgrades. If you want more (sound, speed, acceleration, etc), then do the appropriate modifications.
If its pgmfi u dont have to mod anything. Carb bikes u do. I have a honda 125cc with pgmfi and i made a ram air turbo and its plug n play, no tweaking needed
I want one so bad!!! How do I purchase one? I can't seem to find any for sale. I'm from Los Angeles, CA.... Can I just get one of these at the Honda dealer?
That would be the best place to start. They probably won't have any in stock, but you should be able to reserve one. Otherwise you can try to find a used one. They are awesome!
What about a bigger fuel injector? It beats me, why everyone tuning these updates air intake and exhaust, but nobody changes the fuel injector. More airflow would requires more gas too... Lots of Honda injectors to choose from. I think the one used in Honda 150cc scooters would be pretty good thing to start adding the fuel delivery. Cheap part and just the same on the outside.
With just intake and exhaust changed, the stock injector seems to be keeping up with the upgraded ECU tune. If I get into motor work, I may look at that, but not sure it's needed at the moment. Though I also haven't plugged in to monitor AFR, fuel flow rates, compare to rated capability of injector, etc... It's more involved, and so far this is just a garage upgrade. Don't want to blindly make too many changes.
you don't need an upgraded injector, thats what the tune is for. it widens the pulse width so it shoots more fuel into the engine to maximize the freer flowin intake and exhaust. injector upgrades would only be needed for more serious engine work like a big bore kit.
I don't know and couldn't care less. It's all in how you ride it. I ride mine hard, so it probably drops all the way down to 80 or 90 mpg. Plenty of smiles per gallon for me!
@@RidgeRoamer Thanks for the great video and your reply. I genuinely care about my MPG it's one of the main reasons for buying my monkey. However I'd love to do the upgrades. Maybe I should get another and upgrade that.😄
My experience on engine mods overall is that resulting mpg is highly dependent on the operator. Since it now makes more power, if ridden conservatively, it should yield higher mpg since less input is required to give the same results. However, since it now makes more power, I always want to use that power whenever possible, so I am on the throttle more, yielding lower mpg. But no, I haven't officially tracked mpg on this bike.
Warranty probably depends on your dealership. Hard to say which mod has biggest result. Best to do as a package deal as the air in, air out, and modified tune all work hand in hand.
Thank you! I am very happy with the exhaust. I have a full video on it on my channel if you want to watch. I did not do dyno testing, so can't say what the actual horsepower gains were.

Not a clue. In my mind MPG is for practical things. I would ride my Monkey if it got 200mpg, and I would ride my Monkey if it got 20mpg. So why bother calculating... It gets LOTS of smiles per gallon though!
Fuel consumption goes up when I twist the throttle. After lots of enjoyment I need to put more gas in. Sorry, just having fun... I haven't tracked fuel economy.
I don’t understand why people buy a 125cc and try to make it go faster. If you want to go faster, buy a bike with a bigger engine. The whole point of a monkey is that it’s good cheap fun no matter what speed you’re doing. If you try to mod it to go faster then it’ll do less mpg’s which is the whole point of this bike.
The point of a Monkey is the joy of riding a small retro style mini bike with 12" wheels on the street as a grown adult. It's almost comical, which is the fun in it for me. Modifying the bike to go faster amplifies the fun by making it even more comical as you accelerate through traffic and pass someone at 70mph, thus increasing the level of enjoyment. If I dropped the fuel economy from 110mpg to 95mpg, I haven't even noticed, as the smile on my face distracted me too much to care. And yes, if I really want to go faster, I hop on one of my other motorcycles with a bigger engine.
I was looking for the narration of your mod, not a cheesy Steven Spielberg soundtrack. Maybe the next TH-cam on the list will be actual mod content and not a music video. Meanwhile left you a parting gift for your algorithm.
@@WandersonRC3 I have bikes with more hp. The Monkey is a blast, but I still want to survive without getting run over on normal roads. Plus, what's the problem with getting better performance out of any machine?

Not a clue. In my mind MPG is for practical things. I would ride my Monkey if it got 200mpg, and I would ride my Monkey if it got 20mpg. So why bother calculating... It gets LOTS of smiles per gallon though!
@@RidgeRoamer can't wait to get mine. I have got allready mods in my mind .
The music to ‘the Benny Hill show’ would have been more apt.
hows the fuel consumption sir?
Fuel consumption goes up when I twist the throttle. After lots of enjoyment I need to put more gas in. Sorry, just having fun... I haven't tracked fuel economy.
Mann I want one of those
What year monkey is it?
It is a 2019
I don’t understand why people buy a 125cc and try to make it go faster.
And yes, if I really want to go faster, I hop on one of my other motorcycles with a bigger engine.
oil cooler as well
👌👌
I agree or at least a 250 four-stroke
I don't like yellow but man this thing looks sweet!
Thank you!
They look amazing in yellow
Why all these bikers want that terrible big motorbikes...this Honda is all you need!!!
Interesting
How much what’s your parts list text to FTFMGARAGE thank you
Even your roads are off-road😂
I was looking for the narration of your mod, not a cheesy Steven Spielberg soundtrack. Maybe the next TH-cam on the list will be actual mod content and not a music video. Meanwhile left you a parting gift for your algorithm.
in the minut 3:18
A wee bit to noisy..Otherwise perfect moto cycle..
Go whine to your boyfriend.
@@xploration1437 lol
If you want a bike with more performance why not just buy a bike with more Horsepower ?
@@WandersonRC3 I have bikes with more hp. The Monkey is a blast, but I still want to survive without getting run over on normal roads. Plus, what's the problem with getting better performance out of any machine?
Why make all that noise? Se me! Se me?stupid. I will do the uppersit. HAIR the BIRDS. 😉
Sorry at 5k shouldn't need any mods.
Jmho
My navi, when I.mod her up.will still.cost less than a monkey with mods...
It's never about "needs" when customizing motorcycles...
Why why why all you do is make the engine To make eat all the sand from the air... All powerfull engine destrier air fillter and why not To buy power commander 5 and tune it your self much better and no costs if needed To re program do it your self. You need the autotune To mesure afr (airfueoration) To between 13.2 To 13.7 power 14.7 is Eco. And btw is standardt program In monkey/grom. If no corrrection made the ecu starts To make own corrrections... Plug the own lambda of and make the autotune lambda primary. Then the mil light Will ligt up butt the program wont change. 🤘👍 Been there done that 15.6 hp 10 tousand kilometers behind 181 bbk self made program kitaco high out put camchaft. I Weight 92kg top speed real GPS 105km/h
