Commentary and filming were funny and great. I did not realize till after I clicked on your channel that this channel is fairly new. I hope you do well!
It's a great little bike! Great video man. You don't need a big bike to have big fun. And when it comes to rough terrain - lighter/smaller is actually better. Especially if you ride alone. Great job!
I must admit, I'm really impressed. And that Hill climbs in the beginning was impressive. When you turn over and prepare to go down again it really shows how steep it was, if the GoPro or any Action Cam shows that it's steep, It really must be steep! Sometimes it doesn't show well on wide-angle cameras. I would be scared to death going down that hill.
I took my Honda Z50 mini trail (similar in some ways to the Monkey) everywhere when I was a kid. Going over whoops in the sand pits where the big bikes rode was treacherous, each whoop became it's own little hill that you climbed and descended. That bike was freakin indestructible. An amazing gift from my dad for a mind that needed constant novelty through adventure in our wooded towns.
@@Boonies_adventures I guess that's probably the best thing to do for me too 😥. My homeowners insurance is due this month, it's the same price as a brand new Monkey. I think I'd rather have the Monkey but.....I need to have the insurance I guess. I hope you find a very nice used one someday & the color you hope for.
Ah lovely video, it's one of those rare riding videos which brings a mischievous smile to you while it plays 😊. Of course not possible without amazing skills like yours
Oh hell, now that was some awesome narration! You sound just like the guy in the movie, The Office, and pretty much blowing off work to go out and play. My hero! As a kid I rode the monkey on the single track trails in the hills of PA but nothing this challenging. Most excellent video!!
We've taken our Monkeys and Groms through Hells Revenge and all over Moab, the Washington BDR, and Idaho BDR. The best upgrades we've made by far were knobby tires, 1 tooth down on the countershaft sprocket, and upgraded front and rear suspension. Everything else is optional, but I'd consider those worth every single penny. Exhaust saves a ton of weight, but you were dead on about the "skid plate", so I'd still only do a slip on vs just beating on a fancy exhaust header. Love the video! Keep it up! It's the best motorcycle I've ever owned and the only one that never gets replaced.
Loved your video and love mini motos! Mine's Honda Trail 125. The fun factor with these bikes is off the chart. :) I've always been atracted to the Monkey. Love that retro look. Thanks for posting.
Nice video! I take my grom up to Santiago Peak in SoCal. I always get people asking questions about it on the trail, and they’re impressed that I make it up with 12” tires 😂
That’s a pretty impressive lil go getter. If it looks steep on camera, which both hills did, it is crazy steep in real life. Cameras do not covey incline well at all. Nice work !
Very, very nice video. This bike is incredibly entertaining to ride and very capable on the dirt. I own a 2022 model and, honestly, I will not take it away from the streets of Madrid or good condition roads. I value this little gem a lot like if it was a collection bike that I have to keep forever. By the way, you are a brave and skillful driver.
GREAT video 'Boonies'. I truly felt for the little chimp especially when it bit the dirt so hard. It seemed to survive OK which may come down to the talents of the jockey - who knows. Thanks for a fun 6 minutes and showing us how to ride a Chimpster in anger and stay friends with it 🙂 Cheers from Sydney Australia.
Great video, thanks a lot for your effort ! I am thinking to get one of these, it fits perfectly to my riding style in the city and outside :))) Greetings !
Great test area. You did well handling all that horsepower. The Honda dealer had a CL500 that I wanted to check out yesterday. They had a Monkey too. I've been trying to get one of those for a while now but that plaid seat? I'd rather have an all black seat. Really tempting though because it looks a lot like my old Honda Mini Trail 50 I had back in 1969. The price is a bit to swallow at $4'800 though! Thanks for the show.
got several genuine laughs out of me and I loved the video! just got yourself another subscriber! it reminded me of when I was a kid I had a Yamaha TW 200 and got places that only deer and God have seen with a healthy bit of Fred Flintstone propulsion like you did up that hill! keep up the great content!
It remembers me and my friends in 80‘ going offroading in the mountains. This z50 with two 12-13 years old teens on it… beating the shit on it 6 hours with out stopping… amazing.
😱What a furious video! 🤪Certainly an exceptionally good rider on the handlebars. But I am amazed by the bravery of this little machine. My greatest respect to the rider and his steed 👏
Love seeing your content with Honda Monkey. I wish this bike is much more cheaper in my country, but the tax for CBU vehicle making it double the price T_T Please post video with your Monkey, I love it.
Great video . The Monkey are just like the Honda 125 trail , made for fun 😄. If you don't expect the performance and suspension of a MX bike the Monkey and 125 Trail can go just about anywhere . 👍
4:40 I put Maxxis 6024 nobby tires on my 2020 Monkey almost 4 years ago and they made a world of difference off-road. Swapping out the front sprocket with one that has one less tooth helped to hold more speed going uphill as well. Though, I must admit that the best upgrade by far that I could do for my Monkey is to lose at least 50 pounds. 😂
Hahaha that was fun to watch! I think you'd upgrade to a minimum a Klx230. Please wear knee guards and gloves, saved me all 10 times I feel off my dual sport.
Bloody hell!😄I take my hat to you, Sir!😃I've never see anyone test a Honda Monkey like that! Pretty brave and impressive, because it's a not a cheap motorcycle - which makes no sense compared to other bigger & heavier & cheap models like the CB125F in the 125cc category - and although it might look mini-off-roadish, we know it's not, specially because those wheels are not really size-suitable for that purpose - it even get stuck in the thick-debris river sand.😆 Great filming job and narration, mate!💯% Have a great week, safe rides🏍💨, and watch good movies!✌😎
I bought a 1960 something Honda Z50 when I was 13 for $50. Guy I bought it from was pissed when I rode it by his house a week later after a few bucks worth of junkyard parts and some bloody knuckles. It rode just like that thing which sucked but it was as a few years of fun for about $70.
Thats the DJI Mini 4. If its open and you don't do any sudden direction changes, it does a pretty good job. It doesn't work well keeping up with my 501 though lol
Lol Great fun- great video. That exhaust note is almost part of my DNA. Nice thing about a monkey bike is when the going gets tough, you can carry it home.
It ain't even just big bumps, we took a Monkey and Dax to some uneven roads and they still didn't like it one bit. Now I see why people are so quick to replace the shocks.
i offroaded my new monkey also many times , 1st gear is too long for crawling steep hills, u run out of torque on the backwheel - need to change the frontsprocket to a smaller one to make it offroad capable. its so much fun to play around with it 🙂
that lil thing needs regearing; my 65cc moped goth through half of same obstacle with maybe 4 or 5 bhp (but to be fair it has 18" wheels and working suspension ;) ) . that aside, this "monkey" is actually quite good for "adventure" (albeit short one) riding, and with few mods (not sure about legality, but 212 daytona engine has around 30ish bhp on crank ;) ) and it would be an awesome trail/street mini bike :)
Little tip for all that want a little bit better sound without having to change the stock exhaust. Change your paper air filter to the Takegawa Power air filter. It uses the same air box, so it's concealed and the bike sound more throaty and deep. This will keep you (99,9999%) out of trouble in countries where its very illegal to put on a non approved exhaust.
@@Boonies_adventures I've read that some people who use this air filter on the grom, which has the same engine as the monkey, report that the mixture runs a bit too lean after the installation. But I've run it for 600 km now and didn't experience any problems. The filter runs dry so you don't have to oil it and when it's due for a clean you can simply wash it with soap and water and let it dry. It also comes with another foam insert that's suitable when for mainly offroad. Think it's a bit more dense to keep the particles out.
Im gonna buy a little bit older monkey and im gonna ride it on the countryside without license but thanksfully there is no cops there if someone doesnt call them. But im mostly gonna ride on the smaller dirt roads so it wouldnt be a problem

The down was definitely way scarier. It helps that I have done the hill many times on my husqvarna 501 so I know the routes to go up.
