I must be in the minority, but I actually like all of the rotor movement on my one miyota movement watch. I like watching it whizz around through the exhibition caseback, and the slight noise and feeling of movement reminds me I am not wearing a quartz... Not that I have a problem with quartz, but why pay extra for an auto if it didn't look/feel different? Anyway I guess I'm just an outlier
The best advantage of the 8315 not so much the hacking (as the 821a variant of the 8215 found in the newest Basic Laco pilot watches also hack) but a 60-hour power reserve and patented anti-oxidation blue screws used to increase the movement aesthetics.
Had mine a month now also has the 8315 n didnt realise it had a 60 hour power reserve which is a bonus....Deffo helm homage.... great review and highly recommend this piece....
Very well done watch review. As professional as one could ask for. Seems like another impressive piece by San Martin. I just purchased a SN036-G with a Miyota 8315 movement. It has not arrived yet. If I like the movement, and I suspect I will, I think I'll pick up an SN012 during the next sale. The 60 hour power reserve is a great feature.
@@EscapeWheel Just purchased this SN012 with the 8315 movement during the November sale for under $200. I was so happy with my SN036-G with the 8315 I didn't hesitate to get this too; watch during the sale.
Pretty sure this is a Helm Vanuatu homage. The fully lumed dial is a nice twist on Helm's design though, and given how long the waitlist for the Vanuatu is nowadays, I could definitely see people picking this up in its place, even though they cost almost the same.
It's a bit smaller too which might suit some people. I love my Vanuatu but the white dial and black handset is definitely a winner - the first SM that I'd like to get
I love my my yota. Talks to me. Says" I'm here working as hard as you are." I'll take a yota. With san martin is great. Too bad about the lack of noise.
Glad they listened and upgraded the movement because the 8215 is just a bit long in the tooth. Bit too big on the lug to lug for me but still a solid offering. Prefer the black dial though on this occasion. Nice work with the review
Tough one...considering the wait time for the helm and the fully lumed option. I'm impatient and this thing is awesome, so I'd probably just grab this during a sale and call it a day
I have the Helm and the quality of it is really strong. The wait-list is so long largely because the brand owner doesn't want to sacrifice quality, so he produces them in relatively small batches. It's also the only Micro brand anywhere near this price range that actually has ISO diver certification. If you can get one near retail definitely jump on it. That being said, the lume dial on this is tempting me.
It's a handsome looking watch. I like the brushed ceramic bezel insert. Let's face it, it's a Helm homage and loke Helm they felt the need to make the watch a little (too) big. As good as their case finishing is, the occasional sharpness is some San Martin need to improve upon. The inner edge of the lugs look like weapons.
Indeed. Pretty much all their cases could use a nice polished chamfer on the bottom edge. Not only would it feel nice, it would act as a visual trick to make the watch look slimmer than it is.
i don't get it .. the pricing of the 8315 is between the nh35 & pt5000 regarding the watch , i'd still be surprised if they sell any better than they currently are regardless of the Helm situation at £225 which tbf for what you get as watch isn't that bad but...i dunno i suppose you pays your money & makes your choice.
It's be a real conversation if you could BUY a helm....saw them on eBay for $700+ a little bit ago. They are great watches for the money, but the supply is so low it's basically a Rolex...lol
Good looking watch. A full lumed dial by SM shouldn't disapoint. I feel this is to big for my wrist 😥 Someday I will find a good full lumed dial watch for me
@@EscapeWheel waiting on my Exciton V2 to arrive any day now. It is a 38 and very simmilar to this but dial/hands much different. Oh and no full lumed dial option, so I continue my search..... There are rumors of wicked watch planning a lumicast dial which should be amazing 🤯
I just pulled the trigger on this updated version for my first San Martin. I’m excited. The waiting game begins.

I feel the same, the Miyota 8215 is an excellent movement.

I've got it on order, with the white dial, arrives September 12. Great review Cheers 👍
Thank you! I've still been enjoying the hell out of mine 👊
I love that they used the SM hex on the seconds hand
a nice little touch indeed.

Thanks for watching! I'm loving this thing so much more than expected.
So does the 8315 still stutter like the 8215 and 821A? Does the seconds hand still stop when it gets subjected even to mild shock?
I got none of these flaws here. Wearing it for two weeks now.
I love the bold and simple bezel, Insert, dial, and hands. And also that it is available with a sterile dial. Think I'll order one
Awesome dial with those utilitarian hands and markers.
I like your reviews; comprehensive and without faff.
Thanks for the compliments. I'm not sure what faff is, but I don't have any 🤣
@@EscapeWheel Haha! 'Faff' mean uneccessary verbiage and overcomplication. Needless waffle.
So we appreciate your lack of it 😉👍

Looks great on that blue strap. Wow.
Haha, right? Summer vibes, man!

Yes, it is. Case and hands (and obviously lumed dial) are what differentiates this from the helm....oh, and no wait list 🤣

Does the 8315 have the occasionally stuttering seconds hand, similar to the 8215?
I would guess so as this is just a 8215 with a larger spring and some nicer finishing....but honestly, i haven't noticed it

Thanks Wes! The black does look really good as well
tell you what, it doesn't look far off the Helm Vanuatu...question is, this or the Helm for around a under a hundred more?

@@OmairArif lume dial is a huge selling point. The case is also a lot different, And I can't tell which one I like more.
