    It's great to see a actual smart driver that buys a truck at 800k and knows that it will need a engine rebuild, o see alot of people purchasing trucks at 700k and think it should run like new or shouldn't need anything but most drivers don't understand that trucks are supposed to always be having things repaired as you go along and once people realize that they will be ok in trucking its a constant work to own a truck

    Think I'd pass on this one. Repairs that were done looked like a shadetree mechanic fail. The missing manifold bolts and the sawzall hole in the door is really all you need to know on how this truck was maintained.

      Ah, A hack mechanic worked on the exhaust/turbo. It needs to be gone through to make it right. Door panel, yes its a hack. Looks like an emergency repair by somebody who did not have the knowledge to pull the panel.
      Overall, the rest of the truck looks solid. Would be a GREAT first truck somebody could pay cash for. Justin said he could have gotten it for $16,500 (and prob less). Sounds like a steal to me.

      Depends when it was done. On the road, at a rest stop with a time limit and destination to be at, the cut in and zip tie it method was the way they might have had to do it.

    • @grejsancoprative
      @grejsancoprative 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah. It often depends on what the driver prioritise. Some of us treat cosmetics like panels and the like as a afterthought and make sure what makes the truck go functions as it should. Trucks are after all just a work tool.

      Peterbuilts at Schneider are very rarely fleet trucks and are almost always O/O trucks. Personally, I’d get an oil sample (assuming the oil has 10k+ miles on it to get an idea on the health of the engine, along with getting a full ECM report to get a good idea on the fuel economy I should expect out of it, in addition to a blowby test to get an idea on the health of the cylinders. With 800k on the clock, I wouldn’t pay more than 20k, knowing an in-frame would be needed within about 2-3 years at the long end. Most of the issues you found, they’re not necessarily a red flag for me, but I personally wouldn’t be looking at anything with a Cummins in it, and a lot of it is from the issues that the ISX had especially before the 2010 variants came out where they were notorious for wiping out cams. I would want one with the PACCAR motor if anything, but my preference would be a Freightliner/Detroit combo. The 60 series was a bulletproof motor, even with EGR thrown in, which added a monkey wrench. And my experiences with the DD15’s have been excellent. I’ve haven’t really had any major issues with 3 trucks with them (granted I drive for a fleet) with 500k, 450k, and 500k.

    I've driven Kenworths, Petes, Volvo's, Freightliners, Western Stars, Macks, Internationals and probably a few others...and hands down, Volvo's were the most comfortable, quiet, ergonomically friendly and smooth...and pretty much the most bang for the buck. I drove some early Volvo's and they did have some cheap, plastic, squeaky interior bits but I think they smartened things up for the newer models. Volvo would be my number one choice for a highway truck.

    I ‘m a woman owner operator along with my husband. And I was in my 2007 Kenworth W900 with an end dump trailer on 5/30/24 on hwy 93 outside of wickenburg AZ when another semi hit me head on. My truck burned to the ground in 18 mins and half the trailer burned. My truck was basically brand new. All in the last 9 months we rebuilt engine. In the last 2 months we replaced the turbo, AC compressor, clutch, new seat, All new tires on truck and trailer, abs on trailer, brakes on both truck and trailer and the list goes on. All gone. This truck was special because we were the only owners. No loans. Heavy duty truck most likely was one of the reasons I survived. Man that caused accident died on scene. Now we found a truck exactly like ours. Freshly rebuilt but not all the parts we replaced. And they are still asking $64,000 for a 2005 Kenworth W-900. We have to replace truck out of our own pocket because the other side is taking their time. I’m just grateful I’m alive. I’m hurt badly but I’m alive. I have to stay positive.

There's still 2 beds, but they (and trucker wife)can sit at the table and play video games, have snacks, fix meals with the hot air cooker, etc. They're more like an RV with that table. Justin, I don't plan to purchase a truck but I appreciate you giving me a walk around so to speak on what to look for. You never know where this information might become relevant. I wish in my younger years when I moved to Florida I kept my CDL from Michigan. It could have been useful after I retired in 2010. What is a "inframe" and something you said would pop at 800k. You can answer or explain that in your update if you purchase this truck. Along with other updates you made. I enjoy it. Thanks and God Bless. Stay safe.

    my 2 cents is stick with the truck you have. you know the current status of everything and it is still getting the work done. plus it looks nice and seems to have a good amount of space.

    On the peterbilt, if its been park for days, the 2nd air tank takes awhile to build up.
    Once its running, they will both build up

    I’m a mechanic and the tell tale sign of someone trying to unload a truck with serious issues is new paint, new tires and new coolant. If you are buying a truck, pull an oil sample(if the owner doesn’t let you, run away.). Check the coolant. If it’s been recently changed, it could be hiding a serious issue, like injector cups or worse yet! Another way guys try to screw private buyers is a thick coat of paint underneath the truck. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen guys come in with a beautiful truck cosmetically, but everything else wasn’t checked thoroughly. I have a freight liner Columbia sitting in the shop right now with a bad cam, bad followers, bad injectors and honestly the guy can’t afford it, but he should do rods and mains as well. Guy bought this truck, which in his defense is clean, but the previous owner knew he could sucker the right guy into buying this truck. Took it out for the maiden voyage and it fell right on its face, no engine lights. He bought it for $15,000, and I just ordered $15,000 worth of parts just to get him on the road. First red flag after popping the hood was fuelant, not coolant in his pressure tank. This truck had bad injector cups all around and especially in #3&5. Dumped fuel into the coolant passages and hence why you now have fuelant in your radiator. Another red flag to me as a mechanic is a truck sitting for an extended period of time and gets bought at a discount price. DONT BUY TRUCKS THAT HAVE SAT. TRUST ME. THey will nickel and dime you to death.

    Resale value of the Pete will Greater before then the Volvo. For sure Volvo is by far a beauty of interior and drive 👌. Awesome content 👍

    Thats a bare bones fleet truck from Schnieder they are junk when they are new. Find a Pete with a premium interior and you will see a night and day difference between the Pete and volvo. Ive driven just about every brand of semi tractor out there and Paccar products are heads and shoulders above any other manufacture. That truck was never a good truck from new like I said before pete has 3 different interior styles and it looks like to me that that truck is the bottom of the line up plus it looks like it was treated pretty roughly to begin with. I suggest moving on from that one and look for a pete or kw with the top of the line interior and you will see a night and day difference

      Yep. The difference between the fleet truck trim and the platinum interior package is gigantic! Find a truck that has more creature comforts that needs an inframe.
