Thanks for the help, I'm in my late fifties and this is the first time I've felt sciatica pain. The nerve flossing feels great, it provided relief the same day that I did it. I usually have tension and pain in my neck so I'm searching for more videos. I really like your comments about the body wanting to heal itself, I am a big believer in that! I like your personalities too, 😊
I was one of those ppl that did not benefit from nerve flossing. My nerves were way too aggravated! I’m 3 weeks post op now (microdiscectomy) and Im eager to get back into PT! Sending all the good vibes to anyone experiencing this pain.

I know your post is a year old, but I just stumbled upon it. I'm 6 days post my microdiscetomy L5 S1 and my sciatic pain is worsening. I was told to expect that so I'm trying to stay positive, but thought I'd ask how your recovery has been. Thanks for any info you can provide!
Sorry for not getting back to anyone before. I’m about 2 years post op now & really only experience sciatica when I move incorrectly, pick up something too heavy or stop doing my PT exercises. With time, it did get better for me. Hoping the same for all of you!!

I did this type of movement unconsciously lying on my back and on a hard floor surface. It helped out so very much. At first I didn't understand what you guys were talking about as to how to stretch/floss the nerve. Man it took me several weeks to get it right. Just one night I was in so much pain I went to the ER and then they gave me meds but that did nothing and I decided to sleep on the floor and for whatever reason while sleeping my body was adjusting itself with very similar movements that you guys are talking about. This was a great video, thank you. I did the MacKenzie exercises and felt better, then did a set of nerve flossing and burning pain shot down my leg! I'll give it another week and try again.
I also have it. Pretty much everything they do can help but you have to tailor it to your limits, take it slow, and make sure to do it even amounts on both sides of your body. Eventually you'll build up enough muscle tone and flexibility your pain will be reduced.

Question for you. I am working part time for the US Census, just started this month -- cannot work longer due to knee and feet pain... arthritis and meniscus tear surgery in right knee last year. But my question has to do with my upper back, between and just under the shoulder blades. After several days of walking, standing, getting in and out of my pickup truck 20-25 times in 4 hours, my back starts to hurt, and if I move wrong, it feels like I jar that section of my back. What exercises could I, a 320 lb man with my issues do to combat this. I normally sleep on blankets on the floor, my old Sleep Comfort mattress finally developed leaks that I cannot fix, and cannot afford a replacement as I have been living on $270.07 a month pension since I had to stop my previous part time job (~12 -16 hours a week)-- I have applied for disability -- will retire in 2-5 years time (62 to 65). I experienced a right pulled hamstring and I am able to walk on it but my middle hamstring back of my knee and the back of my hamstring and knee has been numb will this work?
Bob and Brad I need your help. I can't squat for the life of me. I can squat down if I raise the back of my feet so that I'm on the front only. If the back of my feet go down...I go down. Also, I can't kneel down with my shins facing the ground, sitting on my feet...without much pain. The two are linked? Maybe I have some extreme tightness somewhere? How do I fix this? Thanks
Please suggest me on my problem, I had suffered with disc bulge problem, now the bulge is recovered (5 months back) now I feel numbness on small anterior part of sole and middle fingers. Does it will recovered?

In Dr. Stuart McGill’s book Back Mechanic, his instructions are to do both legs. He advises to floss 10 reps per side on the first day. See how you feel the next day. If the radiating symptoms are worse, then stop immediately. In a week try again. However, this time try lying on your tummy for about three minutes then floss again. He says that if you have the same pain increase, then flossing is not for you. On the other hand, if your symptoms have not changed, or have improved, continue with flossing.

Hi Guys, your videos are the best, i have been watching for years. Your "in the PT room" videos are highly preferred. I bought the McKenzie books and the soft pollers you endorsed. Please go back to the PT room!
Wow i just started doing this today and it feels like its already working. This is the first time Ive had sciatica and for the past 2 weeks i could barely stand straight up or even lay down flat. Thanks for everything except that song thats stuck in my head now 😆
Do either of you experience neck issues from the repetitive action of mostly turning your heads to the same side in your videos? Bob is mostly turning head to right and Brad mostly turning head to left. Just like wrist issues caused by doing repetitive motions. I enjoy listening to your information however, every video starts the exact same way. One of you always on the left and one of you always on the right. If either of you is having mysterious neck, shoulder and back pain then it could be from the repetitive turning to only one side in every video, day after day. YOU ARE BOTH APPRECIATED!!!!
Explain to me how moving my head and neck and leg actually pertains to freedom of movement of nerves? What exactly do you think is impinging the nerves from moving? Since when has sciatica come from a disc? Can you point to any nerve in the body that connects to the spine? How many patients have you specifically worked on utilizing this method to resolve sciatica? Do you think that you should know the theoretical reasoning behind the things you promote? If you’re ready to learn based on logic and analysis I would strongly suggest you check out the Yass method. Here you will find the facts about how the body works and how to resolve things effectively. Based on your comments I assume you think that the MRI is a valid mechanism for diagnosing your supposed stenosis. I suggest you check all the evidence which shows that it is in fact baseless that is why the world is moving away from physical therapy as any means of valid treatment for pain or other symptoms.
This is a 10 minute video for patients. B & B don't have time to get deep into theory ... it would take months to learn enough physiology to help the average viewer understand. They offer quick fixes that might help ... I actually wish they would tell people much more often to see a professional if something isn't working. I notice you are promoting your own method of "reducing chronic pain". I took a quick look at your website ... nowhere did I see any references to peer reviewed studies of your method. Not much different than what B&B do :-) FYI, I have strong back and core muscles, walk 4 miles several times a week, and did yoga most days ... my disc, stenosis and sciatica came on in a few weeks, due to the fact that my spine is not as young as it once was. I don't think your method would have any benefit to me ... but my PT recommended nerve flossing and it helps.
@@lizcademy4809 Everything you said in this comment indicates exactly why physical therapy is perceived to have little or know value. Let's start with your first statement. These individuals don't have the time to discuss the theory behind why people are having pain and how to resolve it. That is an interesting approach to people who are trying to help resolve pain. It would take months to learn the physiology behind this understanding. This is a copout. When you can't achieve a goal, simply say it is too hard too accomplish. They offer quick fixes that MIGHT help. That is a rather funny statement. People are desperate to resolve their pain and regain their function. Quick fixes don't help anybody. You wish they would tell people to see a professional if the fixes don't work. THEY ARE THE PROFESSIONALS. Now let's talk about my method. You took a quick look. That's funny. That means you took no time to understand the principles of the method. Things like the key to resolving pain is identifying the tissue in distress eliciting the very pain. By performing the appropriate intervention to resolve the distress of the tissue it ends the need for the tissue to elicit the emergency distress signal of pain and pain ceases. You treat tissues not pain. In the case of sciatica, the cause is due to the piriformis impinging on the sciatic nerve as a result of the gluteus medius straining first and the piriformis trying to compensate to assist. Once the piriformis strains it thickens and impinges on the nerve. So you have a muscular cause creating a neurological symptom. You mention I have no peer reviewed studies. This is another diversion from reality. If i told you 2+1=3 would you not agree that is true because it is factually accurate or would you require a peer review to help you make that decision? I love the people that question my credential as well? If i were a plumber and could end your pain would you not take the treatment because i was a plumber? Very weak argument as to the validity of the Yass Method. Here is some validity. Aaron Filler created the MRN, magnetic resonance neurography in 2005. It can see nerve passing through tissue while the MRI cannot. His studies showed in more than 93% of cases the cause of sciatica is the piriformis muscle impinging on the sciatic nerve. The way to resolve sciatica is to strengthen the specific muscles responsible for the piriformis impinging on the sciatic nerve. This is presented in the Yass Method. To say that is similar to B&B is hysterical. They don't even know what a weight is. They don't know how to perform isolated strength training. They don't know anything about progressive resistance to strengthen muscle. They think sciatica comes from the spine. Those "professionals" continue to promote the same talking points as the medical establishment that has left 40 million Americans suffering from unresolved sciatica. Finally, you just described the same talking points as to the cause of sciatica. You yourself just said it is from your disc and steonsis. You said it is because your spine is not as young as it once was thereby inferring that age is a factor. That premise can easily be refuted by the fact there are hundreds of millions of people older then you that don't have sciatica. The fact you say sciatica comes from the spine is baseless. The nerve begins at the greater sciatic notch in the gluteal region and ends at the back of the knee. Clearly to have sciatica, you have to irritate the nerve along its path and that path does not include the spine. Therefore any treatment relating to the spine is pointless and will not resolve the cause of sciatica. You said your therapist recommended nerve flossing and it helped. But you did not say it resolved the symptoms fully and returned you to full function. Strangely enough those that received the Yass Method described being fully functional and living pain-free. Maybe you should take more then just a quick look at the method.

Not much different than what B&B do :-)
FYI, I have strong back and core muscles, walk 4 miles several times a week, and did yoga most days ... my disc, stenosis and sciatica came on in a few weeks, due to the fact that my spine is not as young as it once was.
