As I've gotten older, my body started telling me (more and more loudly) that it was time to move on from alcohol. I now just have an occasional glass of wine or whatever. And even that, I'm considering quitting out of principle. Anyhow, good for you! Best wishes with the change. My advice: focus on the physical fitness, maybe some group classes that have a social aspect too.

Thank you for bringing up this topic and all the best with this life change.
I equate being sober to living life “without a net” aka not having the option to use substances to deal with underlying issues which might surface so well done for exploring that way of life.
I’m always surprised when alcohol issues are being discussed that no one ever mentions AA or other 12 step programmes. Talking to someone in a therapy setting is a good start and hopefully any decent therapist will suggest an appropriate 12 step programme but therapy on its own will not be enough to deal with the issue in the long run.
Getting support from people who’ve been through it and have long term recovery is the only thing that will work in the long term and still that’s not a foregone conclusion.
There are plenty of AA and NA meetings in bkk as well as around the world. For anyone struggling with alcohol/drugs who might be reading this comment and is ready to receive help give a meeting a try.
Again, thank you Rob for bringing up the topic as it opens the door for people to open up about it; it will help them feeling less alone with it. That, in itself can be a great start.
    All the best

If this video helps even one person on there journey then its all worth it.. I dont care for the haters they can do one 😂
I can see the road that some go down for sure and im able to take a step back from that but many are not able to and get sucked into darker roads for sure.
Having someone to speak to who understand deffo helps and I will be filming a video next week with a content creator who you guys may well know already but have not seen for some time.. both going to be fully open about our experiences with anxiety and depression over the past 12 months.. no shame.. just real life talk and hopefully spark more conversation.

As I spend more and more time in Thailand (here rn) I have taken a simple philosophy. I alternate soda water with an alcoholic drink when I do go out. And I can go days on end where I take no alcohol at all. I have been here 1-month this trip and been drunk twice, and even then I was mao nit noi at most. At my age (59yo) I ignore peer pressure and just do what suits me. It’s the best way.

Been going to LOS since 2007. So many trips were a blur of Singha and Heinekin, party till late, sleep till 3pm, repeat. Then in 2014, I stopped drinking. I felt so much better and actually enjoyed LOS way more sober than drunk. Its hard to explain- its a journey you gotta take and take a lone. But the end result is incredible. You will feel waaay better. My 2 cents is to change how you eat as well, and to quit sugar and the end result will be even more amazing. Good luck.

The risk to youtubers making content like this is the ''Cry for help'' comments.. Thankfully ive not had one but I have heard comments about other content out there and it can put creators off opening up so much. I personally couldnt care less what people think of me and if my video helps one person avoid the dark roads then absolute win! Ill have a mental health video coming shortly too where I will be brutally honest about my journey so far in the hope it will help others 🙏

@@ProjectBangkok interesting. Never considered the "cry for help". But, it could seemingly produce a touch of moral dilemma or angst for the content creator. Does perhaps present an interesting topic for another vlog...the psycho-social aspects re:the pseudo relationship between subscribers and content creators. No doubt some subscribers may feel an intimacy or bond (beyond mutual appreciation) that just does not exist.

But listening to Andy Ramage on Rich Roll podcast really may me think again and I gave up beer . They does need more 0% bar where people can go without the pressure of you need to have beer 🍺.. however I am surprised how many breweries are now making 0% beers long with wines gin ect.. I just believe they need to bars just sell 0% drink as take the away temptation and you still be sociable with like mind people. Thank you for sharing.. good luck it not easy in Thailand lots of toxic’s ally where ever you go..

You are actually joining a growing social trend. While the older generations (born in 50s and 60s) have incorporated drinking into their normal lives, alcohol is less important to people born in more recent generations. It's a change that is working its way through western culture. Part may have to do with the cost but i think its also shifting priorities and how younger adults think of entertainment and personal health.

I hate trends haha hence no night life videos.. no roti lady.. no Jay Fai! but thought this is something I should talk about and just keep things real. Non of us are perfect especially me! The relationship with westerners and alcohol here is no secret and should be talked about more openly I think.. You never know if a silly video like mine might plant enough of a seed to prevent someone going to wrong path in the future.. who knows.. I can see why some take the dark and lonely road for sure! Exactly, it's a fact that quitting booze not only makes your world a better place to be in, good things start to “magically” happen and the energy is insane! Well done Rob,, I’ve lived here in Hua Hin for two and a half years and was always a heavy drinker. Lived in Bangkok and Pattaya previously and drank every night.
Decided to stop drinking a couple of months ago and have found it very easy. I go out to bars with friends who know I’ve stopped, and they don’t ask if I want a beer as we all have separate bins which makes it easier than being involved in rounds.
Can’t say I feel better for it apart from no hangover but financially I can see a big improvement.

I rarely drink alcohol, however when I do, I stick to Vodka, Gin, Whiskey etc. These digest much quicker, don't have the processed Xenoestrogens and calories found in Beer etc, meaning you won't gain anywhere near as much weight and your body recovers far faster. Supplements like TUDCA also help decrease the liver damage.
If you need someone to help you get the best mental and physical shape of your life in Bangkok, please let me know, I'm a personal trainer based in SEA, however I'd love to coach you for free.
