    Got mine used for a really good price recently on the rubber strap. Was my first luxury watch that took me years to decide on which one to get. I like its versatility and its look and the strap and watch are really comfortable to wear. I agree with you that I would not pay retail for this. Just shop around you can find really nice used ones for about 30 to 35 percent off the retail price like I did.

    Great review! I have this watch with the same case size and dial color and I think that it looks much better in person. The stainless steel parts are very shiny while the color and texture of the dial makes it look like a classy and expensive watch. If you're interested in this watch, I strongly recommend checking it out in person.

    For me, the Aqua-Terra is the ultimate "Everyday, every situation" watch. Yes, there are more well-known watches from that "R" brand, but those are extremely non-descript in styling to say nothing about their ridiculous pricing and negative brand image.

      I would modify what John Veach said. You wouldn't really go anywhere, or do anything with a luxury watch, would you? If you work as a roofer, construction, plumber, or auto mechanic, you are probably wearing something like a G Shock or Timex Ironman as your every day.
      I think it is more like an everyday watch for someone who can afford it, and at that, we are talking about someone in a white collar job, like consultant, lawyer, doctor, or salesman. For someone working in the trades, it could be your good watch, but not your every day watch.

    On of the main attractions for me of my Aqua Terra is the Aqua part…the 500 foot or 1500 meter water resistance component that you somehow neglected to mention. With the crown screwed in I’ve been confident and comfortable in both the pool and the surf. The black rubber strap also negates the bracket issue. Lovely piece…although my larger wrist prefers the larger 41 inch version. As always a good job in observation and reflection.

    I’ve worn a watch (3 total in the last decade) tightly and I’ve never felt the need for a quick adjust. Not in the heat. Not in the cold. Regardless of whatI eat, etc…. I guess my wrists just don’t “swell” 🤷‍♂️

    • @Mister_Phafanapolis
      @Mister_Phafanapolis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I notice that in a cold, air conditioned, building my watch is a little looser and then the bracelet gets tighter when I go outside in the heat. However, I’ve never thought it was necessary to quickly adjust my clasp. Give me a conventional swing arm clasp rather than a butterfly every single time.

    The clasp is a deal breaker for me.
    Frustrating because vacheron constantin has a quick adjust (2-2.5mm on each side) on their butterfly clasps. Granular enough, especially with the half links to get it set (maybe after trial and error) so you have it tight when wrist is at its smallest, but can loosen it if it swells.
    Omega has the industrial might of the Swatch Group behind it, if VC can do something like that, omega sure can. I mean they have been doing mass market full ceramic cases for a long time because of all that sweet sweet swatch money.

    It is crazy how much Omega has jumped up in price in recent years. I have a collection of 4 Omegas, some which I inherited, but some I bought myself.
    I bought an Omega Dynamic date in 2003 from a grey market seller for $700. Brand new in box.
    A year or two later I bought a vintage Omega Geneve bracelet watch for $200 from a used watch dealer,. It didn't keep great time so I paid about $150 to have it serviced from a local watchmaker.
    Apparently though, the days of picking up an Omega for less then the price of a used car are over. As is taking your Omega to a local watchmaker for routine service.

    • @martintanz9098
      @martintanz9098 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @N A Coaxial escapement movement is a good thing, no doubt. I would love to have one of those in my collection, but not at more than $5,000.
      My Omega Dynamic has a modified ETA 2892 movement, which was pretty much what Omega used until they started putting Co axial movements in all their automatics..
      The finishing on the AT bracelet is nice, arguably nicer than the bracelet on my Dynamic which I don't even use 90% of the time. But again, not to the tune of more than $5,000. I have an aftermarket bracelet from Strapcode for my Seiko Presage i paid $100 that seems to offer a similar look and function.
      Luxury watches are a funny thing. I sometimes as myself, if I could start over again and instead of 10 or 12 watches, some luxury brands some not, would I just have 1 modern luxury watch instead? And the answer is, I just don't know.

    • @martintanz9098
      @martintanz9098 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @N A well, as I am sure Nick would agree, there is nothing logical about getting into the luxury watch game. I don't wear Rolex, but I have inspected various Rolex models up close as my brother is a Rolex collector. Rolex are nice watches, but certainly not worth the $10k to $20k and up these models are selling for. So by that metric, the Omega SMP is a fine value, relatively speaking.
      I can only speak to my own experience having a collection of Omegas, and some other fine vintage brands such as LeCoultre and Hamilton, alongside some non luxury brands like Tissot, Seiko, Junkers, and Victorinox Swiss Army.
      For the most part, I get as much use and enjoyment out of some of my non luxury pieces as I do with my luxury pieces.

    The two cheaper alternatives you mentioned are a poor comparison. Those that buy the Aqua Terra are mostly attracted to it because of its highly advanced/accurate movement. If you were to compare an Aqua Terra to a seiko, use a Seiko from their grand seiko line utilizing the spring drive.

    You’re comparing an Omega to a Seiko? Maybe try Grand Seiko then you’ll have a fair comparison. Or maybe Rolex datejust? Only problem with Rolex is that dealers only sell to their friends and grey market dealers so forget Rolex. The Omega AT is a beautiful luxury Swiss watch at a fair price.

  •  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Butterfly clasps LOOK a lot better on the wrist aesthetically, but suffer like you point out with little to no adjustability.

  • @Mister_Phafanapolis
    @Mister_Phafanapolis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It’s like Swatch group designs a watch and then thinks “but how do we fuck this up?!” They really do hate their customers. Tissot Gentleman and Longines Spirit have 21mm lugs, this Aqua Terra has 19mm lugs, all have butterfly clasps (that literally _nobody_ prefers.) The hour hand is weird on the AT, they could have used the Planet Ocean hand. Top it off with the absurd, unjustified, price of a “luxury” watch and you get a confident “no” from me.
    I really want to like this watch. This is the exact type of watch that I love. But there are too many flaws to make it as good as it should be.

    although only 3mm in difference, the presence and proportion of the 41mm vs 38mm is totally different.
    The 38mm looks super ordinary, when side by side with the 41mm.
    Almost like 2 different watches.
    they look alike in pictures, but once you pick them up side by side you will not let the 41mm go.
