What do we think of the ‘Black Stallion’ nickname for this new model?! 😂 also made a slight mistake and forgot to change the text box size when showing specs!! Sorry team.
Black stallion works well to be honest!! I think that "Midnight Tide" might also be a viable option. Regarding the watch, I think it takes the whole line of ATs to next level and put them on par (for general market) if not way exceeding (to me) the explorers and the OPs.
In terms of daily use the main difference in the movements is that the 8800 has a quick date set whilst in the 8900 the hours jump like in a GMT which makes it better for travelling.
Yes, love the vertical 'pin-stripes' and date at 3 o’clock. I have the “Golf” edition black face (with green numbers and green 2nd hand) on a green & black Omega NATO strap. My favorite watch
I felt the same way about the omega speedmaster Transition i bought in iran in 1962 ago from an AD and have enjoyed it immensely. However, I'm now considering selling it, hoping to make a good profit from it. Forget the grey market hype, I'm focusing on the value this investment can bring.
Great that will fetch you some cash. *I used to be a collector, but I liquidated my collection to venture into real estate. In January, I acquired homes in Malibu for $32million, and the returns on investment far exceed what I earned as a collector.
How did you grow your portfolio to $32m, I'm impressed, I have a lump sum in the bank, the rates are not impressive so I'm moving it, what's your cash flow like?
I have a financial advisor (trader) she grows my liquid assets and I reinvest the weekly payouts back into real estate and long-term ETFs like VOO and SCHD. I have also started acquiring some tech ETFs, including IITU and IUCM.
I do like it, and finally a reasonable thickness, but... They offer as a million different dial colours, but still we can't have a no-date option. I would also prefer a fully brushed bracelet. As it is, I would put it in a distressed leather strap to dress it down a bit.
Thanks Hunter! I have a teak deck Aqua Terra and have the saffron Shades Aqua Terra - the black one is a home run - wish my two had the microadjustment. You are correct - it's perfect.....great commentary, as always...
The bracelet is shite! Particularly disappointed in the crappy 2mm extension which is awkward AF to open and close. Not to mention the gap. Omega should do better.
I had the green AT and the clasp was my one complaint about it. I am glad to see they have fixed that. This one looks really nice. Look forward to seeing it in person. Looks like quite an upgrade from the previous version.
Love the updates to the bracelet but really not a fan of the now completely polished case. Makes the angles of the case appear less distinct and somehow looks cheaper overall. Apart from less versatility for an 150m WR everyday watch.
I went to purchase the 40mm Explorer and left with the 41mm Aqua Terra. Why? The Aqua Terra has a better blend of tool/field and dress watch than the Explorer. The dial’s embassies ‘pop’ in the light with a dressier vibe. The subtle dial minute rail track, adds a touch of tool/field vibe. The deep black dial color with raised logo adds the last touch of differentiation from the Rolex. As far as the date goes, it’s perfectly color matched, and the trapezoid polished outline helps to integrate it to the dial embassies. This makes it feel like it is supposed to be there. It should respond well to strap options. Simply put, it’s a better GADA watch. You see this when you hold them side by side and on the wrist. The press photos and videos do not do the watch justice. It needs to been seen in the sunlight, on the wrist. The 8900 is a great movement with the jump hour and METAS. PERFECT watch, far from it. The case back should be solid taking away a few mm of height. The bracelet is great, the clasp not so much. It should be a sports with more adjustment. The micro adjustment on the clasp has 1 position. Really a 1/2 link adjustment. A token feature at best. I guess better than none. If you hate a date window, well nothing will fix that. The polished surfaces will ultimately scratch. Long term, there will be polishing, to keep its appearance. If you’re looking for an alternative to the Rolex, and all the games, currently associated, with the brand, then this is a viable alternative. I left one Rolex available in the world for you to find.
For a time and date only, I can’t believe Omega can’t make these watches under 12mm thick. That double escapement needs an update before I can call it perfect.
The on the fly adjustment leaves an ugly as hell gap when its extended but apart from that I really like it. All things considered though, I reckon i would still get a used horizontal teak dial for < 1/2 price of this one
The fascination with power reserve on an everyday watch blows my mind. Honestly I prefer the ‘teak dial’ as it offers a point of difference but that’s just personal preference I guess. The pricing for the AT still doesn’t make sense in comparison to Omega’s other models or competitors.
Great presentation Chisholm. I was about to buy a Rolex 41 Datejust in slate with a jubilee bracelet. Then I came across the Omega Aqua Terra Black Lacquer 41. The dealer phoned me and yes. I bought the Omega. This watch is outstanding!
I've been watching Omega for years the Aqua Terra was always nearly there but for the horrible dials now this turns up and in 38mm it's fabulous. If I hadn't been watching for so long I wouldn't be aware that the price is thousands more than if it had been getting increased with inflation. I'd love one but I think every time I looked at it I'd thinking "Mug".
I felt the same way about the previous aqua terras, maybe the teak design wasn't for me but I saw the shades collection in an AD and I ended up getting the sandstone and it is now my everyday watch.. can't stop looking at it... I feel the same way as you do about this new black one... the only thing missing with this one is the micro adjust but it is by no means a deal breaker for me so I don't really care it's an amazing watch 😍
Love the sandstone too, and might end up getting it later this year. But can't see myself wearing such an elegant watch everyday, and without a micro-adjust, definitely not in the summer! 😅
The addition of on the fly micro adjustment the bracelet is exactly what I’d hoped Omega would do to the AT. The 8900 movement is excellent, I own the current version of Planet Ocean which I wear every day and the accuracy is impressive. This new Aqua Terra would be a perfect second watch for me as it’s a bit more dressed up and I’m not really into dress watches. Could well be the perfect 2 watch collection
If memory serves me correct another key difference between the Cal 8900 vs the 8800 is quick set hour hand vs quick set date. Personally neither here nor there for me, but if you’re a regular traveller and this is a “one watch collection” the 8900 would be more functional to set the new time zone without stopping the seconds hand.
Omega hit it out of the park with the AT Shades (adore my Terracotta), but this deep black in 41mm might have to make my collection! It’s sublime and timeless looking.
Just purchased it with the silver dial, it's a stunner. Thought about getting an Omega AT and then got a black Tag Heuer Carrera + the silver Longines Conquest instead.
I agree with your sentiment, that all in all, this is a damn near perfect watch. However, I struggle to believe that a butterfly clasp with such a lazy solution for a quick adjust, will stand the test of time.
The proportions bracelet case is perfect on the 34mm. There are more men that should choose it. I'm now wearing an 35mm semi vintage Vacheron Constantin , and when you like me got about 17,5 cm wrist smaller watches feels better.
This brings it a step closer to my favourite Aqua Terra, the 36 mm 2504.50 I’m wearing an SKX007 on a «black» (dark grey) rubber strap from Crafter Blue
Omega, now do the white dial, from the new speedy, with red Seamaster text. Add color matched date wheel, with roulette red/black date and red outlined arrow minute. Finally, shut up and take my money.
Great looking watch but its still too thick IMO. It would be much slicker if it was under 12mm and it should be for this type of watch. The 41mm isnt far off the thickness of the SMP300
I agree 100% with the explorer argument. I like the explorer but I truly think it really is just rolex snobbery when any other watch that are beautifully simplistic, will then get compared and talked down on.
Omega releases a beautiful lacquer black Aqua Terra -> “Meh, lacks innovation”. Rolex releases a 1mm larger Explorer -> Every Rolex fanboy loses their minds
I'll pass on this 38mm Omega Black Aqua Terra. The 9R65 spring drive movement is the smoothest and most accurate. I'm satisfied with my Seiko SBGA467 purchase.
My one watch collection is the blue caliber 9605 Aqua Terra. It was my grail, and my wife got it for me for our 21st anniversary three years ago. She ruined me. Now I can't wear anything else. 😂❤
Omega will release a new Railmaster that’ll use the same case size as the AT. However it’ll be fully brushed and have a more oyster style bracelet. The ATs will rival the DJ/OP line. The Railmaster will rival the Explorer. Hopefully it happens soon, using the added exposure from the Olympics
Don‘t know what 2 think about that watch 🤷🏼♂️ like the teak dial and want to buy it on rubber and now i do know nothing, black stallion is nice but also kinda blingy for a GADA … Please help me, i‘m confused decisions decisions also more expensive 🫠
If you have issues with the coating coming off, just use polywatch on the crystal to get rid of all the coating. Then you've just got yourself a Rolex.
I wear an early gen black enamel aqua terra everyday. confirm it is a one watch collection. mine doesnt have lumed indices or the or rail track dial, which I don't mind. I would like that president bracelet though. Mines not a master chronometer, but it has a hi beat movement.
I wondered what the bracelet extension would look like and it's a bit underwhelming. Admittedly, hard to create an extension for a butterfly clasp closure, but looks like a link has gone missing when extended. The rest is great and look forward to seeing this in person. Interesting how basic color changes are getting such positive reviews this year, white speedmaster and now this for the aqua terra.
The 38mm and 41mm versions remind me of the good old Seiko SARB033. The Seiko is obviously less refined but it provides a similar look for around £400.
I got to try this AT on recently and it’s great, but for a watch that leans to being more dressy with the gloss dial and polished bezel, it’s far too thick in the 38 and 41 versions
Two things that make the 38mm not perfect for me: 1) polished centre links 2) the real world lume on my 2015 38mm ‘Skyfall’ AT is terrible as they use so little lume on the hands. It seems they have the same hands here, so same issue I expect. Maybe it is better on the 41mm?
It’s a great looking watch, but far too close to dress watch territory for my taste. Now for the important questions, how many mm of on the fly adjustment does it have and can you get it for the older models?
Except for the cheap looking bracelet adjustment gap, chunky thickness, and that it’s merely 1 of about 100 AT variants. But yeah, a step forward, but way behind equivalent Rolex. Maybe if they got rid of the other 99 or so ATs (almost as many as Rolex entire catalogue) it would punch a bit higher.
Got hands on this yesterday in San Francisco in the 38mm and 41mm. For me if you’re looking for a sort of do anything go anywhere option time piece this is a phenomenal option, and the dial in day light is even better than it photographs which was insane.
Looks superb but I still don't understand why it's so thick. A simple 3 hander with date with Omega's R&D team should be striving for 10 to 11mm thickness. Surely if Tudor can do it with their BB58 and BB54 models Omega can as well.
They're beautifully executed. I just can't see myself pairing a black dial watch with my outfits; I would love to see color variations of this lacquered dial. At this point, I think I would still get a Shades instead. And the micro-adjustment is too narrow for me: I normally use up to 5 settings of the 6 available in the Seamaster 300 M on a hot day. I guess that can work out since I see the aquaterra as a complementary, dressier watch for fancy evenings only.
I think, for the watch enthusiast, this piece is quite a boring proposition, BUT for the average person who wants a single GADA luxury watch it is excellent. Micro adjust is a big upgrade which stopped me from seriously considering the aqua terra shades collection
I've been enjoying my Sinn 556i....similar size and black dial with a bit more rugged and casual look. Perhaps not as feature filled from a movement perspective, but a step down in price. Still think the Explorer is a classic. I love the look of Omega in pics, but can't get a good fit on my wrist.
Not flawless for me: why didn't they lume the minute hand shaft? It would really enhance legibility. Otherwise, I love it. I had an 8900 AT, but ended up preferring my Railmaster.
What do we think of the ‘Black Stallion’ nickname for this new model?! 😂 also made a slight mistake and forgot to change the text box size when showing specs!! Sorry team.
That watch is a perfect one watch collection. Not a bad name.
you know, ID Guy named it BlaquaTerra 🤓
Black stallion works well to be honest!!
I think that "Midnight Tide" might also be a viable option.
Regarding the watch, I think it takes the whole line of ATs to next level and put them on par (for general market) if not way exceeding (to me) the explorers and the OPs.

A lot better
In terms of daily use the main difference in the movements is that the 8800 has a quick date set whilst in the 8900 the hours jump like in a GMT which makes it better for travelling.
For me Omega struck perfection in 2003 with the Omega Seamaster AT 1st Generation, to me they are true perfection.
I know, wish they would reintroduce the 39.5 case size, 41 is too big for me and 38 feels a tad small
That is what I have. In the black dial, 39 mm case. Clasp is a little dated, but still gets the job done.
@@martintanz9098 It's that darn little screw that gets me lol but yeah keep it tight and you're good to go

Finally a good bracelet design from Omega. Now they have to fix the Seamaster 300m.
But is it? Have you seen the “gap” it creates when increasing the size

You didn’t change the text boxes for case diameter when showing the different sizes
Ahh damn, I’m sorry mate this is my bad.
FYI at 2:48 I may be mistaken shouldn't the case diameter be 38mm?
The rounded features of the 34mm is likely because it's primarily aimed at women, who would (generally) prefer the softer aesthetic.

My Aqua Terra with the 8800 movement is 3 seconds behind. In a month! ;) You sure you wanna get the 8900?
Not flawless for me: why didn't they lume the minute hand shaft? It would really enhance legibility. Otherwise, I love it. I had an 8900 AT, but ended up preferring my Railmaster.
