To me it's one of the most perfect watches ever made. Proportions are near perfect and it is so subtle it screams class. I've been wanting a Seamaster 300m Professional for so long but keep getting drawn back to this. Beautiful.
    Thanks for another great review.

I had an Explorer 1, a Turdor 58 and a Breitling Superocean 42 - I sold all three for this one watch with the green dial. So, I totally agree with you. It is just amazing and also my (almost) personal perfect one watch collection (besides a Tag F1 Chrono for running and other sport activities).

Definitely a looker. It's got versatility in spades. Also, as you said a universally wearable size because of the thight lug-to-lug. And the somewhat larger dial diameter makes it exceedingly legible for us older guys whose eyesight maybe isn't what it used to be...

I can’t even chose only one Aqua Terra nor one Omega. If I was to chose just one watch it would most likely be an Aqua Terra with either a black or blue dial and stainless bracelet but I want both of those as well as two Globemasters and I’m keeping my Submariner, my two Baume & Mercier, my Longines and I have my eye on several more of those because they’re on a roll, and I want a Reverso one day. I don’t know if it is due to packaging, but I am really disappointed that Omega puts the 8900 movement (jump hour) in the 41mm AT’s, but the 38mm AT’s get the 8800 movement (quickset date). This is especially disappointing since they are the same price. If Omega was to bring back the 36mm case size and fit the 8900 movement in it, then it would be my ideal watch

The Explorer 1 is the best one watch hands down. It is so comfortable on the wrist. The simple timeless design slips under the radar as an everyday wear and yet still catches the eye on the wrist when you want it to. It is a rugged steel sports watch and still looks elegant as a dress watch. It is the one watch that I would sell everything to keep.

8:51 incorrect. 15,000 gauss is just what is tested at. What you said is like saying a 600m diver is going to crack its crystal the moment it hits 601m. That's obviously not going to happen. This watch can resist a lot more than 15k gauss but is only *tested* to 15k. Doesn't mean it can't handle more.

I thought the ability to shift the hour hand like a GMT was great until u need to adjust the date. You need to move the hour hands by full rounds to change a day. The crown is not that comfortable to turn. So this would be an issue if the watch is not your daily wearer and u let it stop.
I think it’s overpriced when it lists higher than the more feature packed omega seamaster 300m with rotating bezel and helium escape valve.

I’ve been a bit tempted by these, but two things put me off. The teak dial (you just know Omega will switch it up the next generation, so there is no style continuity) and the polished centre links. The globemaster interests me, esp the annual calendar, but not sure about the italics. I’m lucky enough to have two watches I love that could be only watches. The Explorer 39mk2 (which is a great versatile watch), and Tudor BB GMT (more presence / rugged).

That Aqua Terra is a beautiful watch but I wouldn't call it a Datejust killer. Don't get me wrong I like Omega and I have 3 Omega watches. I also have Rolex watches and one of which is a two-tone Datejust. Datejust with its history and iconic look is a classic. It's in a class by itself. For an one watch collection, I would go with my Explorer 1 because of its versatility.

The dial is too busy for me imo. Also too big with 41mm. I would prefer 38mm but the odd lug width just killed it. Explorer is still my love. Obviously Omega saw the opportunity in marketing strategy with the coaxial escapement 🧐

    • @watchcollectingstrategy

They were smart not to pass it up! I can see the dial being busy, I really like the industrial look to it but I guess it isn't for everyone

I can see why Patek and Rolex turned it down. Yeah it’s not for everyone and so is Explorer. I think many would need to go through many watches to learn the beauty of less is more.

The price recommends it as a owc, but let's be honest... Omega has yet to reach the clarity of Rolex when it comes to everyday watch designs. I wish they made something more boring/classic. My bet would go with old models reissues.
