I don’t know what was more emotional, the high of seeing his dads face? Or the extreme sadness of how you all were isolated for so long? Live from North Carolina USA 🇺🇸🇬🇧
I rose through the ranks of the civil service before becoming a teacher. I went on to be head of a department. A few years ago, i completed the knowledge of London to become a semi retired London taxi driver. All of this whilst bringing up my children alone. Not once in my life did my father tell me he was proud of me. It would have meant a lot so I tell my grown up children every day how proud I am of them. If you don't then start today. It matters.
Love it. Absolutely love it :-) known your dad for about 41 years now (was at his 50th and 60th parties) and this has warmed my heart all over again :-) cracking!
I cried when he finally played for his father!!! How wonderful! And my heart ached for his Nana. Great job!!! I've always wanted to play the piano and I've never tried. This may motivate me to learn.
i wish i got to see my fathers 70th.... this video made me cry buddy. u got that kinda brain man... if u wanna do it ... you will.... keep kicking all the ass man!
Wow! The absolute joy on both their faces was incredible, you made your dad so happy and proud. You showed all of us what a great son you are, enjoy life because its all about the little things.
So beautiful in so many ways. Bless their hearts. The irony here is that the son learns to play to give a thoughtful and generous gift to his Dad but the fact that Dad’s greatest wish was seeing son play and yet to learn to play is the greatest gift to your self and yet both of them wanted this for completely selfless reasons. Absolutely beautiful and the depth here is mind blowing
We need more stories like this in these worrying times! What a lovely lad, no wonder his dad is proud of him! I'm 74 this year, and have four sons, all in their 30's and 40's, but when I see them, which is fairly often, that little hug from them is so wonderful, I never take it for granted, and never feel embarrassed, and thankfully neither do they! My own dad passed away some years ago, but I can still hear his voice and see his face, but sadly he grew up in an age when affection to your kids wasn't shown as easily, but I loved him dearly, but never told him until he'd gone. Never be afraid to tell your kids you love them.
What a great story of never giving up. The 10 years were well worth the happiness and pride Olly brought to his family, and to the many thousands who watched it all unfold. There is hope for us all yet
Good job, indeed, Deborah. And all because he made his dad a promise....now there's a young guy who can be relied upon ! Fantastic !! I don't know him but I am SO very proud of him.
This is fantastic 👍 As someone who's parents were professional musicians, and became one myself, I cannot tell you how picking up an instrument can change your life. I have so many great memories from my childhood, growing up and into my adult years. For every parent out there who is able, please, if they ever ask, let your child have a go. They may not want to become a pro, and that's ok, but you never know where it may take them.
This is my story. I'm 54 years old at this writing. I was chosen as elite child 1 out of 200 to learn at government funded music school at 9 years but my family was so poor I was unable to pay even for subsidized piano lessons. I still remember how disappointed my mother was when I was asked to quit. Long story short, I studied and graduated in College as normal students. I worked for another 30 years and retired last year. I picked up piano again and just finished my Mother's favorite piece of Chopin Nocturne op.9 No.1, but with some 30 years delay. With deep regret my mother is no longer around to witness the gift she bequeathed to me inside. Son , you did the right thing when opportunity is still there. So happy for you both.
This must’ve been the most wholesome video TH-cam’s ever recommended to me. Olly, you did such a great job and learning that all inbetween? Hats off to that. “Getting things done” is something that we all have in us, with the right motivation. Thanks for sparking up that flame again for many of us, you’re awesome.
This was AWESOME! My mom was a professional concert pianist with the Boston Symphony. My dad played bagpipes and bass drum in the band... I wish they were around to see my accomplishments as a professional musician. 😪 I play 11 instruments now, starting at 30yrs old...its taken 27 yrs... That's quite wonderful that you've done this!!!
As a 30 year old man who lost my dad when I was 11 this video hit me HARD with both happy and painful emotions. NEVER STOP cherishing the relationship you have with your father everyone, it's so extremely important
I lost my father to cancer in 2012. I started playing on a basic keyboard (61 key keyboard) in June 2020. I started composing a year later. I wish I could play it for him. I miss him.
Olly, this was awesome! And cheers to the BBC for helping you out! This makes me miss my dad tremendously. He was always a huge supporter of my music career. All the best to you!🎵🎵🎵

Utterly amazing! Thanks for the lump in my throat now. What an amazing 10 year commitment and to keep it a freaking secret for that long!! If this doesn't define perseverance, I don't know what does. Congrats to both Son and Father!
Hats off for sticking with it. Everyone who has tried to learn piano as an adult knows hard it is. Most people give up. Work, family, other hobbies get in the way. The real trick to learning is a little everyday
This just popped up on my feed. What a beautiful beautiful little time capsule of pure love. Im in bits! I lost my dad 11 years ago. Id give anything to be able to see his face light up with such pride like yours. You have a lovely family I hope you're all doing well post covid, nonna in particular :-)
The amount of patience, determination, hardwork, perseverance required to reach his dream to surprise and to proud his dad, Damn dude!! You are amazing. Hats off to you!! I can feel his excitement plus nervousness on BBC live, just to play all the 10 years of experience finally. I hope all the good for your future dude. Stay blessed ☄️.
I’m a bit late to the party. When you played for Nana, I cried with her. Your dad is the sweetest. He just loved that you did something for him. Like all good dad’s, he’s just proud of you. If one of my kids did that for me I’d be a sobbing mess. Socially distanced hugs and so much love for you and your family.
Crazy how a single word from your father/mother can shape the roads you'll walk on. Wish I had words of encouragement/discouragement instead of plain indifference lol. Awesome video btw
Wow this is EXACTLY the moment I would have liked to experience with my Dad, but he unfortunately isn't wired to love. Thank you for letting me live this by proxy. What an amazing son you have, what a lovely present. Thank you
props to you dude. as a mediocre pianist from britain myself, this is a really dope story. you have some serious drive and commitment bro. you make me want to keep learning.
Brilliant!! Brought a tear to my eye man! I played my moms favorite song, but she already passed away.. I didnt have the skills when she was alive. So good for you man! This is gold!
I have loved the sound of the piano since I was nine I am now 75, I never learned to play as I had to work then family matters. To enjoy that instrument I bought a used player piano as a non player I could at least enjoy the sound. My piano stoped working, so I listen to CDs but my love for this instrument has remained . Thank you for such a wonderful story.
Twas lovely to watch how proud Dad is of his son. I'll bet that was the most wonderful birthday surprise he's ever had. Well done you for sticking with it lol. Not easy to learn how to play a musical instrument. Sending love and best wishes to you both. 💕💕❤💕💕
Well, isn’t this just the happiest video ? Yes, it is. It certainly is . What a happy 😃 dad , what a lifetime favorite 🤩 gift 💝 to give him, and this son showed such incredible perseverance…most importantly, he didn’t forget about his vow to himself. That speaks volumes about his character, his determination, his guts to do what’s difficult 😥 even through times when sitting there was the opposite of what he wanted to do. Thanks 🙏🏽 for posting this inspirational piece. I sure benefitted. Never give up.
well done olly i have been taking piano lessons for around 2-3years and its so true what you say about life getting in the way i have 1 lesson a week but some weeks do hardly any practice . It just shows the time and effort you have to put in to really master the piano.

Beautiful, not only for the Dad but also for the son who are still having father around to prove his love to him. I left my country by boat in 1982. At the moment that night when I lasted to say farewell to my Dad, He wished if one day, any day that I could save the money and sending him a radio, just a wish list for him to listen to the BBC every night/it is forbidden in my country. In mid 1984 after almost 2 years in refugee camp, I arrived in the States and a month after I got my first job. I bought and sent it home for him. He never got it. The love of gift came after he passed away few weeks earlier. Still today, it bothers me, maybe for the rest of my life.
I'd be happy is my only child would just CALL me. 11 years I havent heard her voice. She's 40 and really hasn't done much with her life but complain. Im proud of what you did. Very loving.

Bloody good work mate! I'm sitting at home clapping for you too! A father-son relationship is so special, and as a father of a fantastic son myself, I'm sure your dad has always tried his best to make you proud of him, just as you have to make him of you.
As I watched your video, my eyes welled up with tears. I am so proud of you, you love your Dad and wanted to please him after all those years. You made him so happy. I could only go back in time and after only a few piano lessons, I was evidently not very interested as a child. But I always listened very carefully to other pianists, and learned to play "by ear" a few years later. Here I am, a 74 year old woman, and have already gone through 3 keyboards and am looking for a REAL piano to play and learn to read music!! I adore you Ollie.
Saw this on NowThis and after a few seconds I knew I had to fine the closest thing to the original as possible. You should be proud of your work mate!!!! Especially since it brought a smile to so many!!! Cheers!!!

After watching this, you have now inspired me into writing about myself and being diagnosed with being Autistic at 64 years old, (Now aged 68) I have always thought that there was something wrong with me, but have discovered that I am actually a "Broken Jigsaw", now I have some idea of how to put myself back into some sort of picture, thank you.
Very heartwarming and well done! I'm 50 and am a self taught drummer of 35 years. I've been actively performing but my parents have never, ever come to any performances of mine. My father just thinks its something anybody can do right off the bat, but what did he know? Kudos to you bud, getting that compliment from your pops made it all worthwhile.
WOW! The Dad's happiness is every bit as great as the son playing Summertime! Lovely!
Wonderful gift for your dad’s 70th birthday. I will be 70 next year and I would love a gift like that. Well done !What a lovely talented son you are. And your nana too love it.❤️❤️⭐️❤️❤️
I don’t know what was more emotional, the high of seeing his dads face? Or the extreme sadness of how you all were isolated for so long? Live from North Carolina USA 🇺🇸🇬🇧
I rose through the ranks of the civil service before becoming a teacher. I went on to be head of a department. A few years ago, i completed the knowledge of London to become a semi retired London taxi driver. All of this whilst bringing up my children alone. Not once in my life did my father tell me he was proud of me. It would have meant a lot so I tell my grown up children every day how proud I am of them. If you don't then start today. It matters.
I was crying at Nana.. How wonderful and determined you are. We can all learn from this video. Thank you Olly. x
I'm kinda lost for words! the dedication, the bond between father and son .. Amazing! :)
Love it. Absolutely love it :-) known your dad for about 41 years now (was at his 50th and 60th parties) and this has warmed my heart all over again :-) cracking!
This is so neat. Cheers from New Mexico USA
As a father to boys this warms my heart. The feeling the dad has is, wow, I did it right. There is no better feeling in life, kudos.
Your dad was truly surprised by this haha, Good job man. Think you made him a very proud dad and gave him the best gift you could have given him!
HOLY COW 10 YEARS ‼️‼️ you must really have wanted to play the piano and song for your dad A WHOLE LOT ‼️💯 Good job 👍🏻😊
Fascinating reading your experience. Best wishes for the future.
Amen!
All the best to you!🎵🎵🎵
I miss my dad everyday, god bless.

I feel like I've got a lump in my throat the size of a football after watching that. What a lovely surprise for his Dad, and what a show of love and dedication by Olly.
This is one of the best videos on youtube. What a testament to you, your family, and the enduring gift of perseverance. Congratulations Ollie and I hope you keep foing with your gift of music!
Utterly amazing!
Thanks for the lump in my throat now.
What an amazing 10 year commitment and to keep it a freaking secret for that long!! If this doesn't define perseverance, I don't know what does.
Congrats to both Son and Father!
I literally felt the heart and soul he put out to his father and just seeing his father smile had me sobbing. Congrats mate, that was amazing.
I bet dad wasn't surprised at all when he found out you procrastinated for a decade and then hustled at the very end to finish.
Those lockdowns were elder abuse for those in senior homes. I felt so sad for those who died alone.
😂😂😂 my thoughts exactly.
That was so cool Olly take a bow!! Just shows what people can do when they are truely Determined.....!! Great achievement..Well DONE YOU..!!
Brought me to tears. I wish I could have done something so incredible for my dad before he passed. So much respect Olly you absolute legend.
Thank you
we learn from our Dad's, like it or not. the Dad who is "isn't wired to love" may have picked up emotion suppressing behavior from his own dad.
Dang! Oh the FEELS! "🥲"!
The love of a son for his father ... wonderful story! Brilliant! 👏👍👍👍👍😃❣
(from Grand Rapids, Michigan USA)
props to you dude. as a mediocre pianist from britain myself, this is a really dope story. you have some serious drive and commitment bro. you make me want to keep learning.
“It’s mediocre no offense”

@@yolanda6283"Was it? I'd like to see you try. So come on, give us an awe inspiring performance."
This pops up after a year and half out of the blue and all i can say is You did your dad proud Olly! Your nonna is a gem and you are a legend.
Gift to a father that makes all relatives and your future generations proud of your deed! Good job, mr. Ginelli! Setting an example!
This clip is just pure insipration for me as im a budding piano player. You couldnt get more jazzyier than this cat. Respect.
Brilliant!! Brought a tear to my eye man! I played my moms favorite song, but she already passed away.. I didnt have the skills when she was alive. So good for you man! This is gold!
If only the rest of the world could see such beauty in such a unique instrument and take the time to learn it....this was quite amazing and great job!
What a beautiful smile you put on your dads face . What a great son . God Bless y’all .
Amen! Great determination!
This very well might be the most heart warming video on TH-cam.
well done olly i have been taking piano lessons for around 2-3years and its so true what you say about life getting in the way i have 1 lesson a week but some weeks do hardly any practice . It just shows the time and effort you have to put in to really master the piano.
days like this i do think i am not totally wasting my time on the internet - get to witness such great human moments!
Absolutely loved this vid. You're a great guy Olly - and that smile on your dad's face..priceless!
Absolutely amazing. You are going to go far with your filmmaking. I see that for you. You are such a great son. You and your Dad are very blessed to have each other!❤
For some reason TH-cam recommended me this... I must say WOW! What a great video. The part with your grandma was pretty emotional. And you playing for your dad live on TV is not just great achievement but such a motivation for others. Well done you!
You're so lucky to have a father that encourages what you do and is proud of you. Some fathers just get jealous and put their kids down to elevate their own egos.
I have been playing keyboards for over 35yrs and watching what you achieved is amazing. Well done and 1 small bit if advice I can give you is never never give up on your music. Well done
Sweet. There's so much else in this video besides your unique birthday surprise for your farther. This deserves to be seen by a lot of people. Thanks for sharing.
I believe your father somehow knows what you tired to do and smiled happily.
I'd be happy is my only child would just CALL me. 11 years I havent heard her voice. She's 40 and really hasn't done much with her life but complain. Im proud of what you did. Very loving.
Have you tried calling your child?
I'm so happy youtube recommended me this.
Olly, thank you for sharing your story. Thank you for putting tears on my cheeks.
You're inspiring and you just made a broken man smile again.
what a lovely bloke you are, Olly; a credit to your family.
Bloody good work mate! I'm sitting at home clapping for you too! A father-son relationship is so special, and as a father of a fantastic son myself, I'm sure your dad has always tried his best to make you proud of him, just as you have to make him of you.
Nice job man, really well done
Yooo what’s up Brad, surprised to see you in the comments. Keep up the great poker content! You make it all look too easy
jiggity?
hey hai
This is so wholesome 🥺❤️ His Nona & Dad’s reactions make it all worthwhile 🥺
My middle son is studying classical guitar and plays me a new Beatles song every year for my birthday. Priceless!
I'm so incredibly proud of you. What commitment just to please your dad. He must be a fantastic dad to have raised a man as wonderful as you. ❤
Cheers!!!
I love this so much! What a special blessing & surprise accomplished because of love from a son for his Father! Thank you so much for sharing this. God Bless.
Brother, from across the pond, nice job friend. Hope your well over there. Glad to see you have your parent still. Tell em everyday you love em, cheers.
This is unbelievable. My parents are in their late seventies and have been the most loving, kind, and patient mom and dad a son could ever ask for. I don't know if I've ever made them proud in any way. Your story is really inspiring me to do something great for them. It's long overdue. Thank you. 🙏🏼
