The older gentleman must've had all the ladies gathering around his piano when he was younger
Shit man, I'd hang around his piano now, that dude has SKILL
Still gathered!😬
And he must've been playing more than just keys
With fingers like that I'm sure he did..

I used to work with dementia patients. I was always amazed at how pianists could play and singers could remember lyrics they hadn’t sung in years. Yet they had no clue what their name was.
Music truly is a part of your soul.
I worked at an assisted living and totally agree with what you said. I remember one particular lady who we had to walk her to the dining room for meals and remind her 3 or 4 times where we were going. Not every time, but once in a while when she finished eating, she would get up, walk to the piano in the corner and play the most beautiful music. When she finished playing we would walk her out. However, sometimes she would just stop playing, one of the staff would ask if she was ready to go. She would look them straight in the eye and say, "go, I thought you said it was time to eat." Oh I loved those people so much.
The music part of the brain isn’t hurt by the dementia
Depending on how severe the disease is, with given time it does. My aunt used to be a music teacher for the best of 60 years of her life and about a decade ago, when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 84, she couldn’t remember and actively told us she couldn’t or didn’t know some pieces that she used to play and teach us play when we were kids. When she is on a good day she sits and plays quite a few of classics with the precision and dexterity that you wouldn’t be able to believe came from a 93yo, a little less than 5’tall Asian woman that has been battling her condition silently for almost two decades (at first it was just little things, but when her husband finally took her seriously and took her to see a doctor it was to the point she couldn’t remember her way back home and would often leave as if spirited away if nobody was nearby).
On bad days you could see the struggle in her eyes when she sat down the piano seat, staring around wondering where she was and why she couldn’t remember why she was there, the piano being the only thing she could recognize. Often times she would ask if she could go back because Ms. Morinaga was supposed to bring her daughter over for her lessons soon.
We had audio recordings of her playing many different pieces and her husband would play the cassettes to her, she would then play along but when asked what piece it was and if she knew who was playing she would often draw a blank. While the skills could stay as muscle memory and play along if shown, be it by playing with her or playing a tape of the music, she never, to the best of my knowledge, played any piece she played and taught of the period after her marriage on her own after being diagnosed. Lots of classics, but anything outside regular curriculum circa 1960’s simply didn’t exist even on good days.
😅 That's Soooooooo funny but 😢 🎉anyways p on
It has got nothing to do with "soul" and all about our brain and how it stores memories.
"Soul" is a female word that means nothing, like "spirituality" which is just religion without consequence.
God bless this gentleman. I hope he's still with us, making the world a better place.
Plot twist: the old man is really himself from he future

Hahaha!
I know an old guy who has alzheimer and cant remember shit but as soon as you sit him in front of a piano he is back and plays.
I love older ones. They know what the real life is all about.
music is never forgotten and helps with patients who have alzheimers.
My mother has Alzheimer's and we talk about things in the past as the long term memories good.

I absolutely couldn't stop smiling. Still am! There is a dvd about dementia patients who sit for months in hospitals, unable to speak. Sitting in hospital beds, wheelchairs, then someone brings them earphones of their favorite music from back in the day.
Their face immediately lights up, they actually start humming, responding to this beautiful stimuli. I cried through most of this amazing dvd.
Music is a healer, as this precious video showed us, in the happy responses here. God bless these two wonderful musicians. They brightened my dark day!
My mum had Alzheimer’s and was in a semi-vegetative state most of the time. But when the staff played music from the 40s she would lift up her head and tap her feet and hands. When the music ended, she would revert back to that awful state once more. Music has such power as does the mind.
Toni Bennet at the end was having trouble with the names of his family. But when asked to sing one of his songs on stage, he knew every word.
I have become hypnotized watching these two great Masters play. My ears are singing, my heart is rejoicing that I got to hear this!
Well said
Couldn’t have said it better. Big smile on my face!
I have nothing to add. Your comment said it all, and I agree 💯.
As someone with no musical ability, this is like a super power to me
One I've worked on for 40 years (guitar) & am still absolutely useless! Had a mate a school who picked one up & played it in a lunchtime & went on to play in a band (Airrace) with *Jason Bonham* supporting some big names such as *Def Leppard & Queen!* Like math(s) you've either got it or you haven't!
Yes! And @Leiflvr, we have the ears, the hearts and take the time to listen all the way through to prove our super power is Very Appreciative Listener of Musicians.
Me too, man. Me too.
With enough time, dedication, and access to educational resources, most people can become this good. Of course some people may intuitively pick up certain skills faster, but that doesn't mean others can't learn that same skill. The best musicians in the world didn't become the best over night, and the vast majority of them practiced for countless hours. The difference is that they had a true passion to play their instrument and persevered.
The ability to listen to and appreciate this music is a superpower too!
Stuff like this make the World a better place.

If everyone learn how to play piano
Not all boomers are so bad

Hello
Jesus wants into everyone's heart.
My grandparents were very good ballroom dancers. About 20 years ago now, they were visiting us in South Africa and were at one of the malls. In one of the large stores a retired gentleman was entertaining customers with his piano playing. My grandparents did an impromptu waltz on the store floor in front of all the customers for which they received a well earned round of applause.
Exactly!
Yea me 2!
This is making me cry. I am 75 and I so desperately wanted to learn to play when I was a kid, but we never had money for lessons. Oh! To be able to play like this. Heaven.
Its never too late man!
It’s never too late. Go for it!
Now iam 35 , I hv also same wish .. but never gets time for learning ..
Only way I found is with my 3 year old Son...
I have placed order for 1 piano and 1 guithar .. let's hope n pray .. my wish will accomplish on my loved sone..💕💕
You can do it!
Do it grandpa
A God giggle that these 2 very talented musicians would meet at just the right time & enjoy the universal language of music! 🎵🎶🎵
This is one of many reasons why the piano remains a beloved instrument. It is a wonderful mixture of challenging, stimulating, exciting, expressive and fun. And it's a terrific way to bond or simply play around with other people. Technology has its place, but the acoustic piano has a special kind of timeless quality.
On the other hand, you can put an electronic keyboard in a backpack and take it anywhere~!!
I inherited an 1906 Hobart upright grand from my paternal grandmother, and the steel sound board makes a sound that is one-of-a-kind. It's been in TN, TX and WA state, then back to TX, and still sounds majestic. Electric keyboards can't match it.@@olenfersoi8887
I love how musicians talk to each other through music.
You can even infuse emotions in music. Just sesarch that homeless guy who played come sail away in a public piano vs when he is no longer homeless. You can feel his despair on the first and then hope on his second play yet he played the same piece.
Their is only one musician and he doesn’t make it all about him.
It isn't only a meeting of the minds, but the souls!
It also speaks through age. Which is uncommon for any communication
We are often better at music than words.

Boy, I wish that was American's attitude everywhere - us older folks are just waiting to be crumpled up and tossed away like trash. Nice to hear someone say what you said, Paradise Soon
Hey There, while I love the sentiment, I kinda think this applies to all ages everywhere. I believe in talking time to talk to people, everyone has a story & that's what respect is, caring and time for all of us. Elderly always sounds so patronising, I know lots of folks older than me (57) & they'd wack me over the head if I said they were elderly!!! What most people want is just simple respect, courtesy & a little time. I know I do & my kids do & my friends ( all ages) do! I had a lady in my doctor's waiting room tell me "Everybody's had a hard life, what I like is having a good chat!!" My stepson is 24 & he is one of the wisest humans I know, he also loves to find out a person's story! 💖
Paradise Soon white hair demands for respect. That’s the culture I’m coming from
Music Educator I'm from America and I totally agree with Paradise Soon! I work with the elderly too and do have great respect for them. However sadly you too are right. God Bless You!
Loved the STING. Brought back 50yr old memories. Thank you maestros!
LOVE TO SEE TWO OR MORE MUSICIANS UNREHEARSED HAVING SO MUCH FUN‼️ THAT'S WHAT MUSIC SHOULD BE ALL ABOUT💓😘👍‼️

The older man literally played everything the younger man asked for, even knew the song of the guys hometown. This is once in a lifetime stuff.
Brendan (the guy with sunnies) and the older man are both from Ireland...so they grew up with the same traditional folk songs...
Plus they know classics like The Entertainer and Moonlight Sonata...
And the younger man was the old man in the past lol
Wait... Which are you saying is which?
Music truly brings people in this world together!
Yeah... and then he just walked off😂
Daniël Meijer lmao😂
It’s a universal language that doesn’t need translation. ;)
