I wonder if this facial expression thing applies to all creative fields? A lot of artists (like painters, cartoonists and the like) also find themselves unconsciously making the faces they're drawing while drawing them
In fairness this is a very famous spot, weird as it might sound that Piano (or at least the one there, it's probably been a few different piano's now) has had some incredible musicians play it. I've certainly heard beautiful music at least half the time I've passed it and that's only me passing by maybe a dozen times.
Your comment made me imagine a film about that piano being old and a young kid played it, then after so many years the kid came back being a professional musician and played the old piano for the last time.

Without having seen the documentary, I can almost guarantee that Henri warmed up a little beforehand. Not on that particular piano, obviously, but he had a weighted keyboard somewhere and got 'into' the feel of the grooves and tempos of this piece behind the scenes somewhere just prior to this recording. There is no shame in this and it goes a long way toward being in the right headspace in order to nail it perfectly for the unsuspecting audience. Amazing independence at some high tempos; Very well done, Henri.
You just described Ragtime, in one sentence. This kind of music he's playing is so vastly different from any other type of piano music, you could play for 30 years, and never learn how to play Ragtime.

It’s like the law of the gravity, the more mass there is in one place, the more mass is being attracted due to stronger gravity. And when resources are ended, massive objects tend to explode, collapse. Same here. Musician stopped playing - crowd disappears.

Basically once you master the left hand in a month or two, it’s all about the right hand. The left hand itself kinda repeats the same pattern over and over just on different octaves. Muscle memory and a small sense of rhythm will keep that on track, and as you do it hours and hours, you’ll be able to gain a perfect independence for it.
Then you’ll start figuring out all the complex right hand patterns, such as licks and improvising with the blues scale. At this point you can pretty much make your own songs. Just learn an intro and outro and you’re ready to go.

That hair was actually originally combed, he went so hard on the piano it uncombed itself.

I love seeing the focus on this man's face... means he's still actually trying regardless off being a professional.
Nah he's just feeling it. Most musician does that
He probably can tell you which parts he made a mistake on too
It reminds me of the face Mozart makes in Amadeus, when he's impersonating Salieri. Lol

Henri Herbert looks the part and plays the part. Awesome ! How can people just walk by with very few stopping ? Music sooths the savage beast.
"nothing attracts a crowd - like a crowd."
Yep, it's the fear of missing out
It’s like the law of the gravity, the more mass there is in one place, the more mass is being attracted due to stronger gravity.
And when resources are ended, massive objects tend to explode, collapse.
Same here. Musician stopped playing - crowd disappears.
It’s really sad how people can’t recognize quality musicians... no one spares the time for beauty
It's just sheep mentality
