Their teeth are used to keep the inhaled fish from escaping, not for chopping them to pieces. The teeth are pointy and positioned all throughout their mouths unlike a bluefish or mackeral. Their teeth are all in line and designed to shear meat.

Great content. I’m new to the DMV, just subbed to your channel. Got my yak coming in the spring. Look out snakes!👍

Thanks much! A kayak is the best fishing investment I’ve ever made.
Thanks for subbing and let me know if you have any questions. Good luck this spring!

If you look at their teeth they angle back alot of times...possibly suggesting that they inhale and use the teeth to hold the fleeing prey in place with that absolute clamp of a jaw they have.

matt polm interesting idea, and maaaan can they clamp down lol. If the lure isn’t holding their mouth open, you can almost guarantee you’ll spend the next 5-10 min trying to open it for them 😂

Great stuff bro! I'm shocked their food isn't perforated with the rows of teeth they have. This series is awesome. I look forward to the next one.

TomyTek Outdoors I was shocked too bro. Really curious as to the cause of the discrepancy on the topic of perforations lol. Thanks!

I’m a real recent subscriber but loving this series. I’m going to try for snake this year. Any tips on handling them when caught? I’ll either be in my 14 ft rowboat or a kayak. They appear to lose their minds when boated. If you have another video on this, can you direct me to it? I have handled Walleye and Northern Pike before. But snakehead look like they really freak and I don’t want hooks or teeth in my hand! Lol. Keep these vids coming! If I ever happen to bump into you at Mattwoman, I’ll come say hey and shake your hand! Tight lines!

William Hower thanks much for the kind words bro!
When it comes to handling snakehead, the first step is making sure that everything in your kayak/boat is squared away. You don’t want to have anything loose or that isn’t tied down, because when they freak out, there’s a good chance they’ll knock it out of the boat. Having floats on your ride, lip grippers, etc., is a must.
In my opinion, the best way to handle them, is to use a rubberized net, and then once they’re in the net and in the boat, use a solid pair of lip griippers.
That being said, telling you to use lip gripper on a live snakehead is much easier said than done LOL.
If their mouth isn’t already being held open by the lure, you’ll often need a second set of hemostats or pliers to open their mouth to get the lip clippers in (they get serious lockjaw).
Even then, I’ve seen them deathroll on lip grippers or pliers and rip their own jaws off.
Still, the excitement, challenge, and unpredictability of Snakehead fishing is part of the allure of this (should be) gamefish.
I don’t think I have a video dedicated to just handling Snakehead yet, but I’ll definitely make one. Great idea and thanks much for the sub!

@@KambotroutFishing Lol! The up next video after The Truth 3 was you and several other newbies fishing for them. Excellent tips in there. I have a net. No grippers. Time for a trip to Bass Pro. And also duly noted: TIE EVERYTHING DOWN AND IF IN KAYAK, LEASHES ARE A MUST! LOL

William Hower bass pro trip? What do you think the chances are of you making it out of there with only lip grippers? 😜
