There is only 1 generator, forget the rest (apart from maybe the Yamaha equivalent), Honda eu22i. Best £1200 you’ll ever spend.
It’ll still be running in 15 years, it’ll start up first time every time and if you want to sell it, you’ll get at least 75% of your purchase cost back.
Older used model 2000’s are selling for £800 on ebay and they were that or less when new.
It’ll actually cost you less than £300 over 10 years if you look after it, the difference between what you buy it for and sell it for. Thats the true cost, not the purchase price.

Absolutely true ! I have had a Honda EU6500i for years now...bought it used for $3750 Canadian and I see them used on various sites for $4000 up, also with way more hours on them than mine. Only other generators I would even consider are from Champion...great product, fair and reasonable price with good service and warranty (I own four of them....)

Great vid as usual mel, but I arnt sure about letting campers use them on campsites, when I used to stay on campsites a man in a motorhome had is running all night, that makes for six reason's now why I don't stop on campsites ,screaming kids, loud music, barking dogs, bounsing balls, people's fire smoke blowing my way ,noisy genarator, for me wild camping always ,peace and quiet for me mel

I also know of one person who ignored all those stickers and ran their new generator for 10-15 minutes until it seized the engine. It's also to stop spills when the generator is in the back of a delivery van or stacked on pallets, Where boxes can be stacked in any position.

  • @theonlywoody2shoes
    @theonlywoody2shoes 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

The only minor thing with that generator is the combined on/off control. I find a gene with a separate fuel tap is preferable, as you can turn the fuel off and run the carb float bowl dry each time you switch it off. Just using the switch kills the ignition, but leaves a small amount of fuel in the float bowl which evaporates (fuel smell) but also tends to build up a varnish that eventually causes problems too.
Great bit of kit considering it was free.

I have a couple of generators and I am pretty sure that if there is no oil in them they won't run (I wouldn't want to test it though).if the oil light goes out the thing will stop. My el cheapo one has the same fuel cap and the vent thing broke so I had to make one using my 3D printer, before I could test it the priming bulb on the fuel pump split so I had to buy a replacement ($17) because they are not like one on a whipper snipper carbie which cost a few bucks to replace. It never rains but it pours!

Hi Mel. A generator gives us another tool that aids independence. For me it is an essential bit of kit. I have a van, Narrowboat and small holding. For the van and Narrowboat I have a Honda EU 10i suitcase generator. I bought it primarily to Charge batteries. It is very quiet and superbly built. For the small holding I have a 3kw “knock off” framed generator that is “ok”. You can run my Honda off LPG but with increasing supply problems finding Autogas is becoming difficult. Bottled gas is going the same way.
I too have looked at electric cooking. With 600-1000w Solar, Lithium Batteries and a DC-DC charger with uprated Alternator to match, I am sure that is possible. Using your Battery Pack is a good idea but it still needs charging and in winter off grid Solar is simply not good enough during the 3 “Dark Months”. Generator to the rescue!
With all the changes in the world, increased security ensuring our continued independence is a priority to me. I am considering upgrading my generator to a Honda 2200 that will enable me to run more power tools. Having said that a lot of my tools are battery anyway & my EU10i handles that easily. The smaller generator is very economical.
Another great advantage of a generator is that is is absolutely guaranteed to wind up the Eco Warriors!!! A real bonus!
    All the best.

      Is it 🤔
At £600 ish you can buy a fair bit of lithium battery power 👍 pluss you,
Never need to refuel a battery with £10 per gallon fuel, you can use solar or a BtoB to refuel for free 👍
No need to service a battery 👍
No need to annoy your neighbors with a battery 👍
No need to ruin the environment additionally with a battery 👍
As with most things if you pay more up front you save in the long term 👍
I have a genset and lithium batteries so I'm not biased either way, the genset if there for emergencies and heavy power use like larger power tools, i use an inverter for smaller power loads, and before we get into the comments of the last vid it doesn't waste power because i turn it off when it's not in use 🙄

Some engines don't like the extra back pressure another silencer would add that's why most people use a generator box 🤔

great vid Mel, i did a fair bit of bodywork on my t5 last year. neighbours didnt like the compressor too much and they wouldnt like a generator on top of that... but after doing a bit of 2k spraying i ended up thinking i should have just bought the 2k aerosols for paint. bit expensive but are hassle free and quick and easy. your power tools would be good to go all rechargeable, like dewalt angle grinder, i suppose you could then use your jackery to pre charge your tools? i did take a petrol generator on a 6 month detecting trip to spain but never used it and it used a lot of storage. i think it would be great if you were in the sticks a bit and just wanted to run anything or charge anything or charge everything in one shot. you could even earn a bit of cash doing vehicle breakdown for the electric car owners run out of juice and top them up... lol i think the breakdown companies are doing this now.

Some good points there Pete I’m only going to use the gen in my lockup I won’t be driving around with it in my van 👍

Hi Mel Just a quick question. I have 12v and 240v in my small van which I plug into the mains to run my van and charge the leisure battery. I was thinking it was a good idea to use a small generator to use instead of mains if I wanted to go wild camping. Are the smaller generators a lot quieter? as I didn't want upset anyone with the noise.
Love your show by the way!
    Jason.

You can add on to the exorcist to make it quieter they are much cheaper then a Lithium battery

They sell quiet gens, usually called suitcase generator, rather expensive thought, probably double the cost of one one the cheap gens like mel has here 👍
