Steidl finally won release on a federal writ of habeas corpus on June 17, 2003, and the prosecution dismissed the charges against him on May 28, 2004. Whitlock remained behind bars another three and a half years until the Illinois Appellate Court reversed his conviction, holding that exculpatory evidence had been withheld at his trial. Prosecutors dismissed the charges against him on January 8, 2008. Randy Steidl filed a lawsuit against the Illinois State Police and settled for 2.5 million dollars in 2011. In 2013, Steidel settled his lawsuit against Paris police and Edgar County for $3.5 million. Herbert Whitlock settled his lawsuit against the Illinois State Police for $2.2 million.
That's good but what happened to the people responsible for him being there? No accountability as long as people take money as payment true justice isn't served. The money will come and go but the life you missed in a 6by 6 cell you never get back. And to be on death row that is murder they were going to let a innocent man die because a prosecutor was a coward
@@korisean-andrewmybabiesilo3807 yeah that prosecutor sticking to his story all these years later would not be anyone that I would want to deal with although it has been my experience that our judicial system is corrupt in so many ways that it's going to take many many years to get back to what our founding fathers wanted for us
I lived in Paris less than 6 blocks from the house the Rhoads lived in. I was 7 years old when this happened. I vividly remember my mom driving by the house the next morning. My dad was a deputy with the county. He knew Randy and Herb didn't do it. He had evidence that Bob Morgan, who owned half the town, had mob connections and was Karen's employer, was responsible for this. Our ATTACHED garage where my dad's office was located and where he had files with evidence of Morgan's guilt due to dirty cops in the department and evidence being "lost" frequently, was set on fire WHILE WE WERE HOME AND ASLEEP. I remember being rushed out the door, thrown in a state cop car, taken out of town and kept there for safety. We never went back to that house and my parents divorced for safety of my mom, my sister and I. ROBERT MORGAN tried to kill my family because my father wouldn't take a pay off to stay quiet. He needs held accountable. Hes a dangerous dirty vile man. I hope his last day on earth comes sooner rather than later.
Robert Morgan gave the hit of Karen Rhoades to two brothers from a local motorcycle gang; the Boards. One of them knew Tommy Lynn Sells from his mulling drugs up from Florida to Terre Haute, IN. Sells stayed four blocks from the Rhoades house at an old hotel, under the name Richard Smith, before murdering the couple and blowing out of town. He had been checked in as a vagrant by Paris Police, one of them Officer Parrish, who will go down in history as one of the dirtiest cops ever to tarnish a badge and was heavily involved in the two wrongful convictions, probably for the purpose of protecting those actually responsible for the crimes.
I felt like the DA was slimy from the beginning. Then when I found out “two witnesses” were there but they didn’t see each other that 100% confirmed my suspicions smh!
The cops interviewed the gas station attendant and didn’t find the several containers of gas suspicious after the house was burned down?? Along with their 2 eyewitnesses were drunks and a drug addict that claimed to be in/at the murder scene?? Think that young DA was trying to make a name for himself with this case. Happy to read in the comments they were finally released from prison. Also, thanks for leaving those commercials in the video!
Don't you love the fact that they wrap this up before anything really happens. "Well that's all folks, innocent guys serving life... and see you next week for another 48Hours!" 🤨😡
@Coogan Someone else already posted an update about the two men on this particular episode of the program. (It's the comment RIGHT BELOW THIS ONE, GEEZ). *Their convictions were eventually overturned, they were released, and the case remains unsolved.*
There is a book by a former state policeman that everyone in illinois needed to read. Too politically sensitive by Michael Callahan. It shows how deep this case goes in a coverup...its fucking insane
Oh and what about the so-called female witness swore under oath six times has changed her story.. from being there at the scene of the crime and even participating in the murders, to then changing the story that she was never there and that she was forced to say all those things by the police officers that were present during the interrogation process. I mean come on proven to have lied six times under oath their key witness and to allow such habit and still let two men serve a life sentence after her testimonies!!! One thing they didn't talk about is why that lady never had to spend / serve not one day in prison even though she claims under oath that she participated in the murder of both these people????

Why would anyone kill someone, or two, people to convince someone to pay a debt. That, or those, people will never be paid one cent if the debtor is dead.
This lady annoys me with her lying 6 times. Why? She just wanted to get it over with? Talk about immature behavior and reactions. Did she want attention? I would never trust her. Thank you and God Bless
It's more likely the cops had something on her or a member of her family, & used that to pressure her to give false testimony. It's also why the cops settled the lawsuit brought against them by the 2 men once they were exonerated. The cops didn't want a trial that would reveal they framed the 2 men.

This case among thousands that are wrongfully convicted, literally scares the daylights out of me. The prosecutor in this case has tunnel vision!! To think that the detectives in this case among many others are legally allowed to lie, threat, and force people to make false reports false accusations, Just so they can close a case because they in most cases ruined the investigation or had zero evidence, and watch out if the victims family are well-known people in the city or if they have money or if they're known to be good financial supporters for election times then yes they will definitely charge anybody with a crime so they can shut the door.

To me, Deborah's story/stories never seemed believable. And I will never understand how someone could lie and change their story so much when there's absolutely zero reason to. It's sickening what happened to that young couple and just horrific that this lady would hinder an investigation.
