Coming from a sportbike background, and having club road raced for 3 seasons. Always been a fan of 1000cc sport bikes. At the age of 53 brought a Ducati Multistrada Enduro in 2017. Great all round bike, but always felt a little top heavy. May 2020 and an 85 year old car driver decides to kill it! Nice film Bruce, almost a drone disaster, nice save. I bought the r1250gsa after listening to you and having test ride all of its rivals. Great bike. Also been off road on a couple of green lanes, not too far just 12 miles or so and it was good fun, would be better on non all road tyres which it came with. Also really well built having already throwing it down grass banking after my own pheasant encounter at 60 mph. Hi from Wagga Wagga Australia. My first watch of your videos and enjoyed your style and commentary. I have had 2 R1100GS’s, 1 by 1200LC and now my R1250GS. I am in the Canberra BMW Club and also have a mixture of 3 older BMWs in my shed. I love my new 1250GS (2019 model) having done 10,000klms over the last 12 months I can thoroughly agree with your assessments on the GSD. I love mine. I also prefer the road to the dirt but have done some dirt. I did the BMW Off Road Adventure course and recommend that as a great couple of days training. Amazing what you learn. Keep riding and I have Subscribed to your channel to enjoy some more TH-cam reports. Signing off. Bruce from Wagga Wagga
I am looking forward to the day we can travel again. My plans for Toro 2020 were scuppered but hopefully I will be back there in 2021. Here’s hoping Lyndon and the gang are hanging in there. Hopefully we can show them some love in 2021. They deserve it after this past year.
Come on... you talk like the 1200 doesn’t have enough power nor enough torque ... I have driven an Hayabusa, a GSXR1000 on track and the R1200GS has more than enough power to make the driver smile !! but disagreements apart, this is a very nice video (and loved the commentary of driving hard before the authorities “wake up” ) 😂
Another great video it baffles me all the touring videos doesn't matter whose riding or what bike everyone seems to ride in low gear second or third with all the grunt ! Why fuel is taking a hammering
every year I tour the western USA on a GS. Cant wait to get back this year. The ultimate camping machine up in the mountains. I'm th only one I ever see on a GS where I go. Anyway, thanks for th video Spain looks great. I wish they didn't have the tax burden I might live there.
I’ve been watching your videos and Lamb’s video for some time now and after seeing this video I now know that I want to visit Spain and I want to come to the UK and ride with you guys from the US, OH! And thank you for that song “Three Weeks Ago” can’t stop listening to it.
Friends of mine had one, they toured across France. They loved the bikes but both commented on the horrendous fuel consumption!! This is a huge point, max 40 mpg!! And that was taking it easy.
The overall videography, the bike and your marvellous commentary had me hooked on for 30 minutes straight! 😍 That was a real close call with drone right there hahahahaha my hands got sweaty 😂 Thank you so much for all the efforts you put. Please keep blessing us with these videos! Subscribed! Love from India 🇮🇳✨
It's already 3 years that I'm riding in the mountains with my friend during summer holidays. He's riding a GS, I'm riding a VFR800F. This year, he was riding his brand new 2020 1250GS, the years before that he had been riding a 2017 1200GS. This year, when he was overtaking, I haven't noticed any difference in his acceleration. Bluntly stated : he didn't out-accelerate me this year, just like he didn't the years before... I could still follow him on my 2015 VFR800F. So I guess the acceleration of the 1250 over the 1200 isn't as spectacular as you make it appear.
@@stewiemac4017 He was pretty deceptive with the hill assist, since all you have to do is hit the brake again to disable it. Makes me wonder what else he stretched the truth about.
Hi Bruce , My S1000XR has gone in for some warranty work , BMW gave me a R1250GS to use in the meantime. I have never ridden a GS until 3 days ago, Ive been riding / commuting on the 1250GS the last 3 days and oh my word , now I know why the GS is best selling motorcycle! I have had 3 x S1000XR's and I think I'm converted. My next bike will definitely be a GS, just need to get the Rukka suit (haha). Another great video with awesome shots, love the drone footage. Well done!
If you ever get converted to going off road.....? try the Dunlop Mission, great 50/50 tires, great on and off road. Also, get some off-road training you will be amazed. Those Michelin Adventure that were on those bikes are 20 to 30% off road at best. Bless you! lol
Yes sir, if those are the Michelin Anakee (they sure looked like it), they are 70/30 (or so Michelin says). That said, take a look at the rear tire of the TKC 70 Rocks (which are also 70/30).🤷♂️
Love the video. Where abouts in Spain are you riding as it looks spectacular. Ive had my gsa1250 for 3 years and never yet been away on it. Only done 1900 miles up to now... but watching your video has inspired me to go to Spain this year. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
@@teapotone Lucky indeed! Can’t wait for the municipal lockdown to be over so we can ride again. Next time you’re down... that BP station you pulled in at at the Alhaurin roundabout... take that road that goes down to the coast from there and back up again. An amazing few miles of biking heaven.
I have been there few weeks later in January and Lyndon said you hated the off-road 😁 Had a chat with Adrian to, lovely people and stunning place. I would give anything to be able to work there 😏 Took you long enough to put that one out 🤐
I did a 4 day off-road trip with a bunch of GS owners (1200 and 1250). I own an old 1st gen V-Strom 650. At almost every stop or break we took, this was all I heard from them talking: "that service cost me this much", "a clutch replacement is expensive, need to split the bike in half to do it", "regular service cost me even more this much", and more $$$ complaining. Needless to say I tackled the same terrain they did, and when things got sticky or slippery, proper tires counted more than anything else. Don't fall for expensive luxurious money pits, ladies and gentlemen, unless you know very well what you are getting yourself into.
In my opinion you can't own many of these expensive bikes unless you've got a warranty, which aren't cheap either if your buying one when the manufacturers warranty has expired.
The GS is an easy to maintain yourself bike. Clutch is a different story but well, every 80-120k kms, that aint that big of a deal either. But yeah, when the list price is expensive, expect maintenance to be similarly expensive vs other bikes.
@@joost1183 In the 2013 air/water cooled engine, the clutch was changed to a wet multiple plate system, located in the front of the engine, making it a lot easier and cheaper to service and better performing too. You have to split the frame on the middle on 2012 and older models to change the clutch.
It’s a great bike ...but no....what’s best is a personal opinion......i have ridden a GS on and off road with the BMW team....yet I don’t own one...I went for a Kawasaki.....and I love it.
Great video just whats needed in these times👍. Got to get to Spain at some point and ride these roads and trails. And top marks for editing, definitely one of your best. Hoo, haa!
My 1250 is my 3rd GS, the other 2being a 2016 and a 2018 my. I never really gelled with the 2018 bike, don't know why but it didn't seem as much fun as the earlier bike. Probably the Euroregs and the later esa had something to do with it but as you say the 1250 is night and day better the engine is smoother as is the gearbox, GSAP and even the hill hold is better. Just a great all rounder that's hard to beat if you can only have 1 bike. Shame about the stigma it has given mostly I guess by people who have never ridden one. Roll on the spring and to times when we're not in the grips of covid.......
You mean they FINALLY got that tractor of a gearbox right? Good for them! As of the 2016 GS...had the Adventure variant and everything went good until it hit 20K kms and managed to throw a valve through one of the pistons!
@@C_R_O_M________ Let's just say it's the best GS gearbox yet, it's not super smooth and foolproof like a good IL4 box but once you get used to it it is a big improvement over previous GS boxes.
not a chance. The r75/5 of the 70s is the greatest given it's achievements. Followed by the 100PD. I only wish I had enough time to say why. Look at the history of those bikes travelling round the world and what the Australian state based BMW clubs did with the /5 is nothing short of amazing, riding into the interior. The big GS and the big ATs and Teneres are making way for the smaller lighter bikes. Big GSs and similar are really for prepared roads and motorways but they are brilliant at it. Fantastic drone shots
Just swapped my 1290 SAR for a 1250 GSA Rallye TE. Having ridden the 1200 GS TE some years back, I can definitely tell the difference between the ol boxer and this one. I think people who can't are usually riding it in the city and not really opening her up. Still within the break-in period and it definitely handles the dirt way more nicely than the older model imo.
I loved the GSA, however I got it because the overall comfort factor came into play as I was using it for work a lot. I’m now an owner of both an RT (old man bike?) and a Tenere700 which is full specced for off roading.
9:01... chewbacca riding the bike ....😆😆😆 nice video and places. The good of this engine is elasticity and torque, so why you’ve driven all the time in 3rd gear? Anyway bravo😉
Great, great video. You say you wana hug the bike? 😂 I wana hug you (in the most manly biker way of course), for such joyous spirited ride. I looking to buy a GS 1200. You twisting my arm to spend more money on a 1250. Stay safe my friend

You (as usual !) are 100% correct .... light and day between the 1200 and 1250. It rides like a completely different bike. I’m lucky enough to have my R1250GSHP at my home in the Algarve and get 300 days a year with perfect riding weather.

I have a GS 1250 TE, amazing bike. What i want to know is why cant we have road surfaces in the UK like they have in Europe. I have ridden all across Europe and roads are so much better than ours
Testament to the quality of the bike that you were able to feel at least semi comfortable riding along the cliff edges. Well done for stretching your comfort zone.
Outstanding clip. Loved the part where you say you hate, hate the decent 😂. I live near to the roads you went on, so will definitely be having a closer look... Only on tar mind you. Looking forward to your next post.
Currently own a 2012 R1200GS and a KTM 690 that I use for adventure riding. The GS is a great traveler and does OK for intermediate off-road. The 690 lighter and easier to handle but definitely limited for travel. I think the new middleweights make more sense for me as they have a good balance of each. Great video and what incredible scenery and routes!
I have the 2020 GSA version of that bike. I understand now why people love them, they just do everything so well and here in Australia, I do it without range anxiety thanks to that 30 liter tank. 👍 The price is of course ludicrous, I could have bought a nice little car with aircon and all of the other extras for the same money but . . . BIKE !
Very well put together video Bruce. For someone that claims to dislike off roading you seem to make a lot of off roading videos ;) I think secretly you actually enjoy it.
Fantastic road ,great ride , if only uk roads were as good , off road I was nervous for you , it’s a big bike to drop. Great video really enjoyed it thanks 👍😊😎🤓
For the off road stuff I would want a Husqvarna enduro 600 or 701 single piston lightweight please. I learned to ride off road and can happily do 70 over a boulder strewn beach, its just technique and having the right bike. Chunky boxer BMW is probably not on the list
Great video - love my GS. Need to get down to southern Spain. Looks amazing. BTW a love your channel and looking forward to seeing you on your new show on Amazon next year !
👍🏻Let's get that vaccine rolled out and get out there, looks fantastic. I spent a week in Gran Canary last November with Canary Motorcycle Tour's, would like to try Toro also. Great post thank you. "Spanish Caravan" by The Doors should have been your playlist, copy rights are an ass!
BEST bike ever on and off road. Clearly a subjective opinion of course but I suspect many would acknowledge that the huge litre-plus machines are deeply intimidating off-road options for most riders although there is of course no doubt whatsoever of their mile-munching superiority on the blacktop. If the accolade "BEST" is to apply meaningfully in this extremely competitive and demanding category then the choice is between a Yamaha T7 or of course the KTM 790 Adv R. Both have more than sufficient grunt to cope with long highway stretches (assuming appropriate screen modifications/upgrades) and both have very strong, practical and (importantly) accessible off-road credentials. T7 tips it in terms of lower impact on the wallet whereas the 790 is the emperor of tech. The 1250 and the 1290 are however literally the Range Rovers of the bike world. There's probably nothing to seriously compare in terms of cross continental travel on all terrains in such supreme comfort.
Loved that! “This is great practice for British roads”😂. However, seeing you pass cars when you’re on the edge of a very nearly vertical drop to your right has put me off a bit. I’ll stick to the tarmac roads 👍🏻
A great video, thanks for sharing. As you know @teaptone we have some great biking roads Down Under in Australia, loving my 2020 1250 GSA Kalamata so far...!
Nice video. Recently bought the 2021 GS1250 in Paris. Locked down within a 10km radius but itching to take it for a longer ride. I am pleasantly surprised about how easy it is to ride in heavy city traffic, where I have already clocked up over 600km of filtering in 3 weeks😂
I don't mean to sound like a fan boy, but I absolutely love your work Teapot. The editing, the commentary, even the bloody music is great! Bet you wish you were kicking people's doors in because of illegal BBQ's rather than riding around Spain on the GS though... 😉

Cheers Bruce,
Welcome to the channel bud and I appreciate your support 👍
I am looking forward to the day we can travel again. My plans for Toro 2020 were scuppered but hopefully I will be back there in 2021. Here’s hoping Lyndon and the gang are hanging in there. Hopefully we can show them some love in 2021. They deserve it after this past year.
Absolutely Richard 👍
Those drone shots very cool, good job it noticed the tree 🤣
Ha Ha mate I thought it was a goner!
Cheers bud, glad you liked it 👍
Come on... you talk like the 1200 doesn’t have enough power nor enough torque ...
Bejesus the washout on the right hand side at 23:06...made my arse grip the couch! Nice video.
That was a real close call with drone right there hahahahaha my hands got sweaty 😂
Thank you so much for all the efforts you put. Please keep blessing us with these videos! Subscribed! Love from India 🇮🇳✨
Thank you very much Shubham, I’m very happy you enjoyed the vid 👍
GS blah blah blah 🤣 really hoping we get back there next year!
Absolutely brother, we will 100% 👍
You know you want one LCR! 😃
Few days ago he's raving about a Gen 3 SD-R and now a forking GS is good? best even? oh give us strength 😆
Fortnine skewered the 1250 rather nicely
He's been on the Wreckthehoosejuice again 🤣
Well done!
Ha Ha, I’m chuffed you like it bud... welcome to the club 😉👍
Cheers Chris, that is down in Southern Spain, just north west of Malaga
It’s so weird seeing the roads I ride on on TH-cam.
Glad you enjoyed it. Some fantastic routes around here.
Thanks Kasper, you are very lucky to ride those roads all the time, fantastic fun 👍
I have been there few weeks later in January and Lyndon said you hated the off-road 😁
Had a chat with Adrian to, lovely people and stunning place. I would give anything to be able to work there 😏
Took you long enough to put that one out 🤐
I did a 4 day off-road trip with a bunch of GS owners (1200 and 1250).
It's not for nothing that the GS is the most successful adv bike ever and BMW sell more GS each month than some other manufacturers sell bikes.
Here's some better advice...don't shit on motorcycles you've never ridden. Duh
A bit nicer than the 2 degrees and snow in North Wales today ❄❄🥶
It’s a great bike ...but no....what’s best is a personal opinion......i have ridden a GS on and off road with the BMW team....yet I don’t own one...I went for a Kawasaki.....and I love it.
Fantastic video and superb editing Bruce to put this together. Not a bad way to spend your day.
Cheers Mark 👍
Great video just whats needed in these times👍. Got to get to Spain at some point and ride these roads and trails. And top marks for editing, definitely one of your best. Hoo, haa!
Thank you very much Ian, cheers 👍
Great video fantastic editing and music choice 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you 👍
My 1250 is my 3rd GS, the other 2being a 2016 and a 2018 my.
Hands down the BMW R1250Gs is the best, if I ever get delivery of mine! Delayed again 😑! Top video Bruce, love the drone close call! 😄
Thanks Murt, fingers crossed yours arrives soon bud 👍
The GS is a good bike no doubt, just sold mine for the new Africa twin 2020 and love the Honda to bits
not a chance.
Hi Michael. How did you find the KTM versus the GS for off road? The 1290 SAR gets good reviews =, what drove you to change? Cheers
I loved the GSA, however I got it because the overall comfort factor came into play as I was using it for work a lot. I’m now an owner of both an RT (old man bike?) and a Tenere700 which is full specced for off roading.
Awesome review thanks 007 you sound like Sean Connery the best Bond
9:01... chewbacca riding the bike ....😆😆😆 nice video and places.
Nice one Bruce great plug for a great motorcycle touring company and watch a great do it all bike gees you get what you pay. Apologies for the late review you are putting out so many great videos hard to keep up but the pod cast as now great listening on my drive o work
Thanks Malcolm 👍
The shots on the drone!! Ohhh magical!! Awesome work!!
Easy to get good shots there, the whole place is beautiful! But thank you 👍👏
Ahhh...A happy Teapotone is a happy day indeed! Congrats to a beautiful day and bike. May we live to see another. Ride a GS/GSA and it will change your life. Ride safe and ride often. Peace.
🙏👍
You (as usual !) are 100% correct .... light and day between the 1200 and 1250. It rides like a completely different bike.
I’m lucky enough to have my R1250GSHP at my home in the Algarve and get 300 days a year with perfect riding weather.
Drone footage is a game changer
Cheers Amish, spectacular views there, you couldn’t go wrong 👍
“Good practice for British roads”. All too true! Bruce!!
Really looking forward to my trip to Toro in April, COVID permitting. Great vid as always.
Thanks Richard, enjoy Toro bud 👍
@@teapotone Cheers Bruce. I’m sure we will; been watching so many of you at Toro and we’ve had to postpone our trip twice so far, so we’re all really looking forward to it all the more.
Awaiting delivery of my latest TeaPotOne merch this morning too! Time for a bru!
Mine arrives on Saturday!! Buzzing!!
Honda Fireblade RR-R-SP , Absolutely Phenomenal!!! LAZER Perfect, SPEED never came so easy and felt soo GOOD!!!!
I love my 2019 1250GS Exclusive......I have owned many bikes over the years, this IS the best one!
Loved the R1250GS over my R1200GS that much, I bought the TripleBlack. All my gripes with 1200 have been fixed.
Same 👍
you're having too much fun there buddy, great vid
Outstanding clip. Loved the part where you say you hate, hate the decent 😂.
I live near to the roads you went on, so will definitely be having a closer look... Only on tar mind you.
Looking forward to your next post.
I think I enjoyed the bits you didn’t! Lucky with the drone and the tree. Happy New Year Bruce
Have you looked into the Rally Raid Evo kits for the 690?
@@aka_pierre - I have not. Would be interested in comments from those who have rally setups.
I have the 2020 GSA version of that bike. I understand now why people love them, they just do everything so well and here in Australia, I do it without range anxiety thanks to that 30 liter tank. 👍
The price is of course ludicrous, I could have bought a nice little car with aircon and all of the other extras for the same money but . . . BIKE !
Fun ride and great video photography!
Thanks Connie 👍
Really enjoyed this video. Buying a 2021 GSA tomorrow. Wish I could be in Spain with it!
👏👍
So we are the spanish and our landscape, thanks for comming to Spain, we hope to see your ride here very soon :)
Back down to 22nd today... however... I think it’s fair to say that mavic pro is going on santa list... excellent tree shot, great cropping 😂
If you get the Dji Mini 2 it is licensed to fly - basically free rein as it is under 250g.
Congrats on your new TV venture Bruce, very happy for you👍
Thanks very much Leo, really looking forward to cracking in with it 👍
Got to put this on the bucket list ,looks awesome.
cheers!
A great video. What great bikes these are.
Very well put together video Bruce. For someone that claims to dislike off roading you seem to make a lot of off roading videos ;) I think secretly you actually enjoy it.
Ha Ha - BUSTED! 😉👍
Really an amazing bike. Great stuff, TP1.
At the drone bit... was literally on edge of the sofa going "F*** noooo no no no STOP!... ahh thank f*** for that" 😂😂
😁😁😁😁😁
The stress of any drone owner
Fab vid as ever, and how close was that tree!!!!
Great bike and great ride!!
Great video - love my GS. Need to get down to southern Spain. Looks amazing. BTW a love your channel and looking forward to seeing you on your new show on Amazon next year !
Thanks Barry, I can’t wait to get going with it too, hope you enjoy it 👍
👍🏻Let's get that vaccine rolled out and get out there, looks fantastic.
I spent a week in Gran Canary last November with Canary Motorcycle Tour's, would like to try Toro also.
Great post thank you.
"Spanish Caravan" by The Doors should have been your playlist, copy rights are an ass!
What a fun road to ride!!! Still trying to figure out what country you are in. Italy?
Spain bud 👍
I really enjoy every second on my 1250GS. This bike brings so much fun and happiness. Sometimes you even forget about physical and skill limits :)))
Went from a 1200 to a 1250 and definitely felt the low-end grunt. Also the 1200 would run out of breath more easily.
Amazing Bruce really enjoyed every second of the video
Thanks Ali, that’s great to hear 👍
A great video, thanks for sharing. As you know @teaptone we have some great biking roads Down Under in Australia, loving my 2020 1250 GSA Kalamata so far...!
Nice video. Recently bought the 2021 GS1250 in Paris. Locked down within a 10km radius but itching to take it for a longer ride. I am pleasantly surprised about how easy it is to ride in heavy city traffic, where I have already clocked up over 600km of filtering in 3 weeks😂
Ha Ha good work 👍
That was a excellent video, a lot of work went into that editing for sure 😊
Cheers Rikky 👍
I don't mean to sound like a fan boy, but I absolutely love your work Teapot. The editing, the commentary, even the bloody music is great!
Bet you wish you were kicking people's doors in because of illegal BBQ's rather than riding around Spain on the GS though... 😉
Oh I bet LC is chomping on the bit to get back to Torro so he can get back on the best all rounder there is.
Amazing views but doesn’t beat bonnie Scotland! 🏴
Looks like you had a cracking day out. What a difference a year makes
Aye unreal isn’t it, I was thinking that whilst editing it 🤦♂️🤷♂️👍
Very enjoyable that was, just a good fun and honest video.
Thank you Des, glad you enjoyed it bud 👍
