This was my favorite song to play in Rock Band 2 man, this version just hits way more than the original recording.

I MUCH prefer this version to the on-album one. The mixing is done so much better. It's more raw and more powerful, but I don't have to fiddle with my mixing to make it sound like it. The bass brings out more of the song's support, so it doesn't sound like it's going to just topple over. Great job on this.
I know people like to shit on Guitar Hero/Rock Band but these games brought us insanely cool shit like this. The whole reason this version exists is because Harmonix/Rock Band wanted Souls of Black in the game but the master track audio stems were either lost or too damaged to work so they just had Testament re-record the song.
All the mixing you're hearing is from Harmonix who has a bunch of audio engineers amongst the devs. They purposely want each instrument to stand out in the mix since Rock Band has Guitar, Bass, Drums and Vocals. Ironically, some songs in Rock Band have a better mix and sound better than the studio versions because of this.

This is probably my favorite metal song out of everything I've come across so far. Testament is a goddamn beautiful thing.
Testament has always been a kick ass band, but I never truly noticed how much they suffered from shitty production on their first few albums until I heard this and then went back and listened to the original.
Look for the SHMCD Remasters that were done in Japan in 2013.

Look for the SHMCD Remasters that were done in Japan in 2013. I own Souls and The Ritual. Still looking for a copy of Practice, but they are amazing. They were remastered really, really well.
well remember back in those days we all had equalizers and shit. so they would record and put it out basically flat and then when you got the record home you could add bass and treble the mids and if you had a sony walkman you got the eq with mega bass and fuck that was awesome the old school headphones were fuggin bullet proof

@saberbazer Supposedly, people have started to understand that, and have started to aim for the dynamics. (No more compression & mastering loudest to max). It's very pleasant to listen songs which are barely compressed than compared to the super compressed recordings of that have came out.

@Johnnyboy414 I can hear the difference between 128 and 320kpbs easily! And I have over 5 years old stock speakers... And there's a subtle difference between lossless format and lossy mp3 even with highest settings 320kbps for mp3...

What....... what did they do to SOB ? This kicks waaaaay more ass than the original, most bands screw up re recording but this, this kills the original... Testament is one of the most under rated bands in metal.

been listening to testament since i was 8 years old.....a family member broke into a buzzards nest record store and got EVERYTHING,the rest is history...i like many, have a band.... its called orion...2 demos posted... lies within the lies and rise of the monarch slaves...first one about marshall law,media prophaghanda...the second one is about celebrity worship ect...very much inspired by the older groups like megadeth,testament,slayer,death,anthrax,old metallica...check it out if you please.

@MPaulsell I think you're misinformed. First off, This is made with the original tracks... but you can notice that there are guitar parts which are so low volume that you couldnt hear them properly. I raised their level back to normal. This is the way it should sound and im pretty sure it sounds this way in the game too. And the original 1990 version has rhythm guitar parts during solo. But sure you can go to listen that shitty quality version (drums panned to hell)
