    Always the best reviews out there, showing the internals and how upgradeable they are by end users. I also like your take on keyboards. Thanks for all you put into the reviews.

    A laptop that I can actually do work on without carrying a million dongles..who would have thought of that??

    • @Blendedasian
      @Blendedasian 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      nothing to see here can you see, what the rock, is typing?
      now seriously, one would never predict something like a donglebook would happen, especially an apple one, since macbooks are many things but are not minimalistic, they are actually known for having a lot built in. From 2016 onwards it's clear something went horribly wrong.

      And most manufacturer's have followed suit, including Lenovo with some models. Companies need to quit blindly copying Apple thinking everything they do is right, since they do most shit wrong.

    Lisa, I just recently subscribed to your feed. You're reviews on different products are on point. I like the fact that you don't hide the fact of what you like and don't like but let us decide what we like. I watching almost every review even if I will never buy some of the products but, it keeps me informed. Thank you, you're doing an Awesome job.

    When quoting sRGB and brightness levels on Lenovo laptops, I think it may be important to note the panel model. Lenovo has quite a bit of panel lottery for many of its models. Examples:
    T460s FHD: could come with LG (better color gamut and brighter), Innolux (so-so), and BOE (worse, has PWM)
    T460s WQHD: could come with LG (best, no PWM), or Panasonic (has PWM, yellowish tint, lower than advertised brightness)
    T470s WQHD: could come with AUO (best, great SRGB), or LG (not as good as AUO, but still pretty good)

      For the touch fhd screen, notebookcheck said there is pwm . i just ordered a fhd non-touch model. wish there is no pwm

    • @dknight211
      @dknight211 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point on the T470s FHD touch. It is using a LVO panel and as you mentioned, Notebookcheck found it to have PWM. That is unfortunate since the T460s FHD touch used a LG panel that doesn't appear to have PWM.

    • @davidjehakhwang8197
      @davidjehakhwang8197 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @dknight211
      I received my T470s WQHD with LG panel, and it has crazy amount of yellow tint to it. I am thinking of exchanging the laptop, hoping that I would get a WQHD AUO. Do you know if the AUO panel also has the similar yellow screen issue? If it does, then I'll just keep my LG panel...
      Or would it be better off ordering a T470s with a FHD? Does it also have multiple manufacturers with yellow screen?

    • @dknight211
      @dknight211 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      David Je Hak Hwang Sorry, I do not know if the AUO WQHD screen has a yellow tint issue or not. I do, however, advise against the FHD. According to Notebookcheck, the FHD has a panel lottery of 4 different screens and all of them have PWM.

    I love thinkpads but they're HEAVY!
    I've always wanted a slim carbon X model however those models go for around $2000 and up. No way can someone like me possibly afford that. The T470s is ideal, however. Will seriously consider purchasing this.

    • @TheFrankyJoe
      @TheFrankyJoe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gordon C Yeah, considering the 1080p gets around 7 hours, I don't expect mine, with the QHD display, to have long battery life.
      But I'll mostly use it for Python development, so I should be able to get a somewhat acceptable battery life.

      Sifan Qu I've confirmed with Lenovo through their psref contact and they said that the T470s only have an M.2 slot and that the M.2 sata drive can be replaced with an PCI-e NVMe one.

    A few things not clarified. Is the keyboard still spill resistant? Lenovo's website doesn't say. You've said the battery isn't removable, then you said well screws need to be removed to access it. I would like to know, will I be able to change the battery in the future? I typically keep my laptops longer than the battery lasts. In the past I have bought 2 extra batteries in the life of my laptops.

    Lisa, I love your in-depth analysis in the reviews that you do. Having a graphic insert for the display specs like @ 3:55 is very helpful, but what's keeping you from making a graphic with hardware specs and ports like an insert at 4:35, or pros vs cons at the end? Sometimes its hard to follow you when you're rattling off the spec sheet while you interject comments in between.

    Yes, the T470 please, and if available, one of the workstations. Ideally the P51. This T470s looks close to a current ideal for a usable ultrabook. Shame Lenovo are too cute on that 1080p not being as good as it could be at little extra cost - they should think more about the competition and not just try and push people to the X1.

      Haunted if you want to use the computer for long periods of time, a t470 with bridge battery will allow you to switch from one depleted battery to the next full one without turning the laptop off.
      get the t470s if you really need it as thin and light as possible.

      I'm planning on buying the t470 for coding, how is the t460 holding up

    • @LeonAllanDavis
      @LeonAllanDavis 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@enigmaab2758 I have two T460s. Both purchased used off Ebay...
      The first one developed some kind of an ugly creeping grayish thing all over the case and lid and bezel. Like a fungus. After six or eight months, it decided to work only intermittently. It finally crapped out altogether.
      I bought a second one with somewhat better luck. A couple months ago, it decided to give me the "two beeps of death". "Fan Error".
      I removed the back and discovered a tiny chunk of plastic in the fan turbine. Solved the problem. Since then, smoove sailing.
      I use my T460 for writing. The benefit is the long battery life. If I dial the screen way down, I can get 16 hours easy. It has two batteries. The external battery is hot-swappable. I always keep a fully-charged spare on hand.
      But get the genuine Lenovo 6-cell 72 Wh 68+. If you aren't careful hucksters on Amazon and Ebay will con you into thinking you're getting the genuine article. Go to the Lenovo store on Amazon.
      Sure, the T460 or 470 will be just fine for coding. Get the i7 processor and max it out at 32G of RAM.
      And they're dirt cheap. I just saw one on Ebay. 7th gen i7. W10 Pro. 8G. 256 SSD. FHD. $300 free ship.

  • @standupguy12
    @standupguy12 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just purchased the T470. Very excited, especially because the trackpad is slightly bigger on these than the Lenovo 2 in 1 currently being sold at Best Buy! Also, who needs a 2 in 1? I'll take the longer battery life! ☺️

    I loved the t450s. I'm upset with lenovo. This seems way worse on the battery situation. Their goal was supposedly to use the same batteries in their line of lenovo t series, and they've undone that :/ So my batteries are garbage I guess. I'm curious if it runs as cool as the t450s. I'm curious if it works with the old docking station? I may get a MSI GS65 Stealth instead, since lenovo ruined this line. It's a mess. Nice review and thank you.

    To anyone reading this:
    I have to make a choice.
    A local computer-repair shop that sells refurbished computers is offering a Thinkpad X270, [that comes] with a Core i5 6300U processor, 8GB of RAM, 1920x1080-resolution screen, and 240GB SSD, for $250,
    Whereas a different local computer-repair shop that sells refurbished computers is offering a Thinkpad T470S for $340, and it comes with a Core i5 7300U processor, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM (4GB soldered, 4GB not-soldered (ie. 4GB in the RAM-module slot)), and a 1920x1080-resolution screen.
    What do you suggest I get?
    (P.S. i've already done my research, and i know that the X270 is cheaper than the T470S, & comes with regular USB-C as opposed to Thunderbolt-3, & comes with 2 USB-type-A ports instead-of 3, & has a 2.5-inch-platter hard-drive bay, & has the "PowerBridge"-system,
    Whereas the T470S is a bit higher than the X270, & comes with Thunderbolt-3 as opposed to regular USB-C, & comes with 3 USB-type-A ports as opposed to 2, & comes with a "M.2"-type NVME-capable SSD-slot;
    Yes it doesn't have the "PowerBridge"-system but i don't really care about that (no offense) ).
    What am i thinking about using it for? Doing Coding_&_Programming courses that a cousin of mine has suggested i do and has sent me the links of, for C++ & Python.

    Love your reviews, Lisa. Only one criticism...get a swiffer! Really, with the high definition images captured these days, every little bit of dust and lint shows up on those close-ups, see it all the time on many product reviews. Especially on the Thinkpad reviews since dust shows up more against the black finishes. Aside from that, excellent review. Have the T460s and it's an excellent machine and definitely worth the savings over the X1C unless excellent color reproduction is needed or in this year's version, a smaller footprint.

    I've got a t460s 2016 model. 20gb ram etc etc . I love it . Only issue is the built-in speakers not working properly at all, to add to that am no getting parts. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

    Thank you for the review. I noticed that when you pressed down on the keyboard, there was some flexing, which I also noticed when you pressed down on the Carbon X1 keyboard, in a previous review. Is that just my imagination, or do the Thinkpad keyboards really flex? I had an IBM Thinkpad many years ago, and there was no keyboard flex.

      she must have been pushing pretty hard, thinkPads are one of the least flexy

    Nice review. You just missed the absurdly positioned USB-C port. Ever tried to charge it via USB-C and use a mouse (as a righthhander)? Good luck.

      You can just get a right angle USB C cable. That would solve that problem!

    This is a nice computer. I have a 4yr old ThinkPad and might have looked at this one but instead bought the HP envy x360 13t QHD+ (16 GB, 1TB) from Costco ($1300). Waiting for it to arrive.

      10tenman10 well Costco is famous for ample return policy if not fully satisfied try the Lenovo. I am a big thinkpad fan.

      Thanks. A friend of mine used their computer for 18 months, returned it to Costco and upgraded to a much better device. I think I'll be happy with my purchase.

    I just don't get why Lenovo insists on doing weird things with the keyboard layout. They either put the Fn key on the left of Ctrl (most of their laptops), making copy & paste shortcuts "fail" numerous times, or they for some reason decide to throw the right Shift key to the right of the arrow keys, or make the Page Up & Down sandwich the Up Arrow, etc. Lenovo computers are generally pretty nice, no idea why they can't just use the standard keyboard layout...

    Lisa, do you buy all the computers you do your reviews on, or are they loaned to you by the manufacturer? How does someone get started in testing and reviewing products like this?
