I spotted ships and the support killed them. Words I can RARELY utter when I am running DD. My teams seem to like to fight 20 km behind the fight. Even the cruisers.
Get closer to your team, even if it means you aren't contesting the cap. It's always better to stay alive reliably than hope to be lucky and get the cap. It also allows the other team to push in closer to your team, meaning that they have less choice but to support you while you screen their engagement.
This ship get so strong as the match goes on. Had a match today where I really had to just hang back and wait for chances to support, and by the end I really felt that I was the deciding factor in the win. Only 100k damage and two kills, but tone of spotting damage, and was able to smoke 2 BB's and spot to keep them alive while they still dealt damage. Great ship
Had a game recently and both teams had a Friesland (and 2 dd's per side no cv all same tier as Friesland). Our teams Friesland refused to enter the cap or even try to scout, hid behind an island and a cruiser who wasn't watching his moves went to far forward and was obliterated by spotting from the other side. He then proceeded to run around moving behind other team ships like BB's and such. Their Friesland was more like the one in this video and other the other side of the map helped his team spot, used cover to then fire (fast), etcetera.. Eventually the enemy Friesland even sunk ours and ended with two kills. Ours had none. Side note their Fries had a 51% win rate overall, ours 47% .. and it showed man it showed. And when people complained in chat about his failing on basics he whined it's not built for that and it's too risky to push with the ship. Sigh. Sure the Fries is not a torp boat or as stealthy. But it still as hell can spot enemy ships further away than a cruiser. You just have to play it differently to get that spotting, aid your team, and then take your melt a ship shots when you can Just like the French DD's. They can still spot but you have to do better at play with them as you can't smoke. Heck if you can learn to play a French DD well you do even better in Jap ones afterwards as all your DD techniques improve and then you have smoke again as an added protection. But most players in WoW are one trick ponies with limited thinking and so they all head to spot "X" on a map not matter where they start or they do "Y" as they can't figure out how to do better. Just like the player who sailed across the map and responded to a lemming comment that grouping ships for firepower is the best thing to do in warfare (small groups working together yes .. all the ships in one damn lemming spot no). They can't handle complex thoughts and so ships like the Fries will always fail with them at the helm.
I have had the Blyskawica for a while and have a 19pt captain that I now use on my Friesland also. I use same build except on captain i use expert marksman for the slow turrets on Blyskawica. This gives a little less dpm when damaged but it works for both ships.
You misrepresented the turning circle advice. If you're going full speed, dropping to 1/4 as you turn WILL tighten up your turn. However, for consistent speed, the most effective speed is 2/3. This basically means juggling between 2/4 and 3/4 to keep the speed just right. If that's too intensive, then 3/4 going into the turn, 2/4 about half way into the turn to tighten it up a bit, and then 3/4 again to provide more water pressure against the rudder. It's basically a matter of balancing the speed so you don't drift wide in the turn, and the water pressure against the rudder so you can actually turn at all.
I've never got such low attention from a CV (especially USS Enterprise or the ships which you come upon more often, Shokaku or Midway). Battle will look a lot different then. But it's situational ofc, like team play is nowadays. Still, awesome hustle Flam. Keep it up!
Perhaps because every CV worth their salt knows that striking a Friesland is only worth it as a last resort. And even then, it probably still isn't worth it.
